Awful!!!! In this school, the parents are cliquish. The school will discriminate. If you have money, then your child will flourish. They will get a part in the play, in sports (even if they cannot play the sport) they will have the advantage of playing the whole game. If you do not have money, your child will not be allowed to participate like the other students. We have attended for many years and have attempted to participate in many activities, but have been overlooked for the more affluent students. This includes all extracurricular activities. read more

My daughter attended the school for one semester in second grade until I pulled her out. She had come from another university model school, so I was very familiar with the university model process/homeschooling and had always been acquainted with rigorous curriculum. The problem with CLPS is the curriculum is so focused on composition and grammar, that even in second grade, the children spend hours writing papers and diagramming sentences, all while every other subject (phonics, spelling, literature, science, history, language) etc are not taught or barely skimmed over. I can't speak for every grade or teacher at the school, but the second grade teacher had poor communication from the start. I asked her to call me several times (to clarify assignments) and she reluctantly did so while blocking her number. We were completely new to the school and it was as if any questions were unwelcome or hesitantly answered. I met with the principal more than once to discuss the problems I was encountering. Our first meeting she was very welcoming and appeared to listen, but when I followed up to tell her issues had not been resolved, I was told I had "asked more questions than should be necessary and should think about if this was the place for my family". I was told if assignments weren't clear then I should just guess at what to do. All the while, my daughter was expected to write multiple page papers graded on a full rubric of requirements. There was nothing detailing how to break down the writing process. Every parent I talked to behind closed doors was telling their child what to say and write because the work was so developmentally inappropriate and taught so poorly. We were doing the exact same math curriculum we had done since kindergarten. Because of the way it was being taught, my daughter was suddenly struggling to understand certain concepts in math when she had high A's the previous two years (side note, since I enrolled her somewhere else this semester she's back to making high A's in math using the same math curriculum). I met with the principal multiple times, as well as the teacher. The principal would say things like "this is the way it is and we aren't changing anything" and the teacher would try to blame my daughter for the poor communication. The CLPS teacher went so far as to email my daughter's first grade teacher at her previous school and ask if she had any learning issues. The first grade teacher promptly replied that my daughter had always been an above average student and was one of the first in her class to pick up new concepts and information(the school I came from was FAR more academically advanced but the difference was the assignments were very clear and developmentally made sense). The teacher could clearly see from her grades the past two years, as well as her entrance exam into CLPS, that she had been an above average student. My husband and I were both home schooled growing up and both received academic scholarships to college graduating with honors. Accelerated academics is not what this school is practicing (at least in elementary). They will talk all day long about their high school testing scores and college entrance exams, but that is completely irrelevant to lower elementary. If anything, because of how things are being taught, I could see my daughter academically regressing. I firmly believe most people stay here because they either feel they have no other quality school option or their child, or they previously came from a full time public or private school and the parent does not know what is academically expected for a child's grade level. Overall I would not recommend this school academically, culturally, or socially. read more

What an amazing privilege to have this school in Fort Worth! The quality of the education is beautiful in creating students who know how to create think critically, are good communicators and who will be prepared for college. It's not for everyone but it's been the best blessing for our family. Our children feel deeply loved by the teachers who really care to know each child individually. My son attended kindergarten and his first semester of first grade at CLPS. My husband and I adore the staff, kindergarten teacher, and all the friends we made during our time there. It was a hard decision to leave our friends after being part of a large community of homeschooling families for over a year, but we felt it necessary. We want our son to flourish academically which is why we decided to educate him in this way but, after experiencing the program, I had concerns regarding the curriculum. Since I was new to homeschooling though, I decided to give the program a chance. I noticed around early October 2018 that my son was really struggling in certain areas and it was taking us over 6 hours each satellite day to prepare him for his Tu/Thurs classes. Although, academically he was still achieving high A's, it was putting too much stress on my barely 7-year-old. After completing the first semester, it was clear to me that grammar and writing composition were on a 4th-5th grade level, the science and history portions were barely present, the phonics/reading program was extremely weak, and the only subject we did love was Saxon math. In writing and grammar, he was being asked to write and re-write lengthy detailed papers with visual aids and diagram sentences beyond a reasonable age level. After doing some research, I found that popular private schools in our area do not introduce formal writing programs until 3rd-4th grade. I also noticed that my son was learning more about prepositional phrases than gaining a strong foundation in reading and phonics. This was the most disappointing part of our semester. We would spend very little time on reading and spelling. I was excited about giving my son a strong reading foundation by teaching him to segment sounds, blending, decoding, etc....but the English worksheets that we would receive were not strong in teaching the concepts and rules of the English language. I did not see a true English/spelling curriculum during this time. Everything seemed a little thrown together which created a great deal of busy work that lacked substance. Unfortunately, reading always seemed to take a backseat. I tried to incorporate my own lessons but I found it to be too exhausting to add any additional curriculum to our already busy day. Education has always been an important part of our lives. I have a bachelor's degree and my husband a master's degree. We do believe kids should be challenged academically and that is why we decided to use a university model school. However, these rigorous programs need to make sense for the age of the child. Pushing them beyond a 2nd grade level while still in 1st grade is inappropriate and discourages the love of learning. My son became extremely frustrated to the point he was exhibiting physical signs of stress. This was not what I envisioned when I decided to homeschool my child. The elementary years, especially kinder-2nd grade, are huge fundamental years and should encourage a healthy respect for learning. I do feel that the academic team at CLPS cares for their students however, I also feel that they are trying to prepare our small children for a level of learning that is unnecessary and prevents them from obtaining a strong foundation in core subjects and a future desire to learn. After speaking to one of the administrators about the curriculum, I was told that nothing would change even though my concerns were valid and I could supplement on my own where needed. This was just not an option for us as I was already paying for their program and spending most of my day trying to help my son complete his homework. This response was less than reassuring given the cost of the program. I feel that it is the responsibility of the educator to keep the parent informed and to be able to justify their chosen methods. After pulling my son from the school, I found that half of the parents in our grade that asked me why we left were feeling stressed about the same things. CLPS has such a wonderful community of families; I would strongly encourage them to consider reevaluating their curriculum. read more

My family has truly benefited from this school. My oldest son who is 11 is finishing his second year of Latin and is currently enrolled to take Saxon 87 for this fall. My second son who is 8 did not fair so well in reading so he repeated 2nd grade English, but was able to move on to 3rd grade math. The school has a course-by-course mastery level promotion, not age promotion. We LOVE IT! read more
