After realizing that this just wasn't feasible (full-time day job, married with a new born kid etc), I went ahead and signed up for the Live Online course with Ravi that happened every Saturday and Sunday from 11-2 (EST). Course was 6 weeks (2 classes each weekend). VERY doable and VERY flexible for me. As someone who was very rusty, especially with my Quant skills, this course set me straight. Ravi is EXTREMELY helpful to all students, willing to discuss and explain things offline/through office hours/email as well. A true teacher (who by the way has taken both the LSAT and GMAT and done very well on them). He just understands what the GMAT is about, expects ALOT from you (so bring your A game and don't slack), and is able to convey all of this without wasting any time. Might I also add that the "assistant" David Ingbur added a great touch to the classroom chat and made things that much more interesting. I would HIGHLY recommend this course and HIGHLY recommend Ravi as the instructor. 100% exceeded my expectations and with so many courses out there, it's refreshing to have had this experience. Hiring a professional college counselor-separate from the ones available at the high school our son…read morewent to - was one of the smartest decisions ever. I did not expect the in house counselors who were very busy with an entire grade to really focus on one kid and it did feel like they had the school's best intentions as their priority; seeming to balancep percentages to certain schools and pushing the path of least resistance.. Our son came into this stressful process by word of mouth and the things he read, which seemed to be very much about the social atmosphere of various schools, which is important but there was a lot more to consider. Being 16+ he was bullheaded and as his parent I know nothing. Of course. So I interviewed a bunch of professionals. Catie was down to earth and knew so much about dozens of schools that I thought she was the best! After our first meeting I trusted her to work alone with our son so he would be free to really dig deep on what he wanted for himself. She helped him sort through his thinking about the college experience itself so social life would be in alignment with what he wanted educationally (small vs large college for example). By working alone together - and not me butting in and micromanaging - it empowered my son to really think more globally and realistically. (read: he couldn't blame me for anything LOL). Second best decision! Catie worked with our son to help him choose schools and organize his thinking around those choices - realistically. She managed expectations from the start then geared the applications around those schools, including the essays. She has a deep understanding for the process at each school so nothing is wasted. Then she assisted in every aspect of the process and went over the acceptance and declined results with him/us (I wasn't invisible) as they came in. Our son is thriving as a Junior in the University of Michigan- (double major computer science and economics)- his first pick. Go Blue. From the first meeting, Jane focuses you (the parents) on system-wide barriers that school districts place in your child's way, and the legal challenges she can and will help you overcome. She is passionate about this area of law and her skills and track-record would justify enormous legal fees, but she understands that, after her advice leads to your "defeating" your school district's refusal to provide required services to your child, the district's reimbursement of your legal costs (that is, her fees) will be capped. So she does not waste your time or money by over-billing you. Finally, Jane and her team are not trying to be friends with the school district Special Ed administrators. They are direct, clear, and compelling advocates for your child. They will attend your IEP meetings with you, and they will point out the services your child is entitled to by law (not as a favor or gift from the district).
