I went on a Saturday with my family which included two toddlers. It did get pretty packed, so getting there earlier the better, or just coming on a weekday if you don't want to deal with long lines or overcrowding. The Apple Cider and Apple Cider Donuts were delicious! I honestly wanted to come back here just to buy some more. They have plenty of other drink and snack options, too. The staff was pretty nice too. There's many things to do like a swing ride, petting zoo, and hayride -- all very fun. I will say, $40 per person is pretty steep for a pumpkin patch. While I had a good time, I kinda had to force myself to do everything to feel like it was worth that much money. Overall, I'd go back, though.

There is metered street parking and commercial parking garages within a reasonable walking distance. Most viewers of this statue will be passerbys. This is not a destination piece by far. It is the work of Joan Miró, who created the piece in 1981. It stands 39 feet tall. It is made of a hodge podge of materials including: steel, wire mesh, concrete, bronze, and ceramic tile. The sculpture was originally called the Sun, the Moon and One Star. The abstract piece looks like a figure with a fork on its head standing on a pedestal. I will be honest. I find this sculpture a bit odd. I did like the colorful interior crystals that look like they are coming through a crack. If you look across the street, you will see the Picasso statue. As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a destination piece, nor a long stop as I previously mentioned. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area (and there are many of them), or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. Fun fact: The sculpture's model can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Unfortunately, each year, it seems to become more of a standard Chicago street festival and less of an Oktoberfest. In 2021, they got rid of the big tent (and it rained, so we could've used it!), and the beer was Sam Adams - no more German beers. The only thing making it an Oktoberfest was the one stand with brats and kraut and the Polkaholics playing up front (which I do love). Looking elsewhere for a better fest this year. Hopefully St Al's will go back to basics soon. I'll be back if they do.

Mixture of German and American beers combined with partial selection of German and typical street fest fare. So minus points for that, but bonus points in that it is more affordable than the Oktoberfest in Lincoln Square and the bands, vendors, and beer tents have grown and improved in quality each year. It is extremely crowded during peak times (Saturday night), but so is every other popular street festival. Also, it's completely run by church volunteers and the money goes to great causes...so kudos to that. It's very family friendly during the day time...LOTS of babies.

The festival goes from June 4-5 and is located on the east side of Wrigley Field. There was a brief interupption from the weather but when we got back out there, it was back to good food and plenty of beer. I got to try the Turducken Brat and sample the summer sausage chips and Andouille Sausage brat from Paulina Meat Market and got an Alligator brat from another vendor. The Turducken was pretty good (wish it was a little more charred), but by far the best was the Alligator Brat with the Asian sweet sauce on top of it. The only complaint i really have is that the festival was only a block long. I'm sure they are just building the festival over the next few years, but it was very short going between the two sides.

I found out about this parade while leaving the neighborhood Dollar Tree off of a banner hanging on…read morethe fence along Kedzie Ave. I never had much knowledge about Juneteenth until one of my colleagues at my internship site spoke of it which led me to doing more research on it. Juneteenth is an American holiday that commemorates the announcement on June 19, 1865 of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America. Being that this parade was held by St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, a church in East Garfield Park neighborhood I was not expecting it to be as big as some of the other parades around Chicago, but I anticipated coming out to support it because I live in the area, plus it has potential to grow larger as the years go on. I loved that they had this parade, but if it were not for the Pan-American or Juneteenth flags being flown on vehicles, I would not have known what the parade stood for because it was just that, followed by a picnic after which I was unable to attend due to work. A few people tossed hats and bags out of their vehicles that had nothing to do with Juneteenth which left me puzzled on why they were given in the first place. I also loved that there were youth involved with this parade which come to find out they were students from John Marshall High School, and Providence St Mel High School which both are schools located in East Garfield Park. And, both just came off of championship wins with John Marshall High School winning the Illinois 2A State Girls Basketball Championship; Providence St Mel winning the Illinois 1A State Basketball Championship, and an athlete from Providence St Mel's winning the 400-meter State Championship. As the time goes on, it would be heartwarming to see this parade held by St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church grow and get more assistance with promoting which honors African American ancestry, achievements, struggles and Black veterans.
