He bullies his patients and refuses to speak Mandarin, claiming he's not allowed to use it for professional purposes.

Months ago I went to Dr. Chan to get a referral for a specialist so that I could inquire about my Dyslexia. After telling him a few of my symptoms he immediately told me I don't have Dyslexia, and that it is Adhd. He then prescribed me Adderall. I was thrown off by his abrupt diagnosis, so I decided to stop taking Adderall after the first couple of days. After this I decided I needed better answers, so I sought help from a therapist, who was actually able to confirm my conditions as ADHD and PTSD. She confirmed that medical leave might be a good option to consider as well. I went back to Dr. Chan to follow up and inquire about medical leave, adderall, and proceeding with getting more help. I experienced what others have already expressed. Dr. Chan was completely unwilling to listen, to help me understand his points of view, and was immediately hostile towards me for asking about medical leave. He expressed that he has a 'personal preference' against people who don't want to work, and that he doesn't help people NOT work. His refusal to help me understand my situation and his hostility towards me was so intense that it triggered another PTSD-related panic attack. Avoid this person at all costs. He doesn't listen to his patients; he feels like he knows best and will not take into account past medical history that would seem relevant. I didn't answer his multiple attempts to call me about a test result during working hours the day after my blood test. I then received an email from him basically telling me about my test result and that because he couldn't get me by phone, I needed to come in for a follow up appointment; he turned off the email reply button. I sent him a separate email, informing him of my past experiences and why the result of the test was what it was, only to have him completely ignore my email. What a horrible provider this man is, had concerns over certain things, expressed how I was feeling and being frustrated. Asking about Monkey-pox vaccine. No answer, completely disregarded. Then I send a follow-up message after they gave me info, let them know that hopefully allocation could get better. Absolutely flabbergasted at the immaturity this child has. Dr Chan is one of the best doctors I've ever had. He is up to date on the latest medical research, he is kind and patient and non-judgemental. I never feel rushed. His office staff is wonderful. Homa the medical assistant is warm and kind and so good at her job. The office is very well managed. I've never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes to be called inside. I've struggled with my weight most of my life and Dr Chan has been so helpful and supportive as I've begun the journey to weight loss surgery. He has encouraged me and never made me feel judged. I can't say enough about Dr Christopher Chan. Our whole family sees him now. My 20 year old daughter says "Dr Chan is The Man" and I couldn't agree more! read more

*PLEASE READ* I have never been treated so poorly by a medical establishment in my life and feel that his office literally robbed me- avoid Dr. Chan at all costs if you value honesty and reasonable treatment! I was charged almost $1,500 for what I was told would be preventative care covered by my insurance. Having a background in financial services, I consider myself to be a very economically conscious person and made sure to verify with him personally that there would be no out of pocket expenses. In hindsight, I should have asked for a formal quote and called my insurance to validate his claim. After receiving a bill for $1,500 without line-item details regarding what I was being charged for, I promptly contacted his office multiple times without receiving an update nor a call back. Several weeks later, I receive a call from the Polyclinic threatening to send my bill to the debt collector if I don't pay. Still no word from Dr. Chan's office... Funny enough, the allergist he referred me to didn't even test for the specific substances I had requested to be tested for. (I had a terrible allergic reaction to something while abroad.) I am not the type of person to leave behind reviews but because of the way I was treated, I feel obligated to share my experience with other prospective patients. @Dr. Chan- if you're reading this, please take the ethically responsible course of action and pay back what was wrongfully stolen. At a bare minimum, 1) take the time to perform the necessary diligence to ensure you are providing future patients with accurate information and 2) provide the correct treatment for symptoms expressed. read more

Wehre to start! I moved from another state a couple of months ago, and I just ran out of a pain prescription. I picked this guy to be my main doctor here in Seattle. On my first visit, he did not ask questions, at least not many, and proceeded to lecture me about HIS personal rules about prescriptions. In essence, he said we were not a good patient/doctor match, and basically let me go. His reason was that he was not responsible for starting the pain medication, and let me go. I can't believe that Swedish Hospital has him as part of their staff. This guy is rude, has no bedside manners, wants no responsibility, and will not spend time listening. He ignored all other medical issues I have, and concentrated on kicking me off his office because he was offended I asked for a refill on my current pain med. I am 54 years old, with medical issues, and I have seen many doctors in the past few years. I have never felt so humiliated in a very long time until I saw Dr. Chan This guy is in the wrong profession. He belongs in a lab with no people contact. Avoid this guy like the plague! I do not understand the harsh reviews for Dr. Chan. He was my PCP for about three years when I lived in Seattle. The comments about his English suggest that that user never even met him - I'm pretty sure he's a native English speaker. He has a minor accent, that's it. Dr. Chan was very understanding of almost all of my concerns that I bought up with him. I will say that he was dismissive of a couple problems I had, which is why he's missing the 5* mark. Dr. Chan has always been a patient, attentive and good listener with me. I've never felt rushed and he always gets to all of my questions. I am a member of the LGBTQ community and he has always made feel welcome and comfortable to talk about anything. I am happy that he is moving to the Polyclinic as I have heard great things from friends about their clinics and I felt Swedish was a little unorganized at times. read more

In the context of working with a complex patient with multiple diseases, Dr. Chan took me off of one cholesterol medicine for a cheaper, then never followed up. My cholesterol skyrocketed. He referred me out to specialists instead of taking time to talk issues and concerns over with me. Even simple stuff, he referred me out. I found him very difficult to work with. read more

I'm very unsure why anyone would have a negative word to say about Dr. Christopher Chan... he's easy going, easy to talk to, a greater listener , and all around great doctor. He always runs on time and is typically willing to work you in if ever you have an issue. So to read negative reviews about him strikes me as odd. I'd continue to see Dr. Chan as my primary care physician, as well as refer my friends and family. If you need a PCP he's the guy to see! read more

Inexperienced, biased and opinionated, and cannot even speak English properly. When scheduling the appointment, no time limit was mentioned, but after arriving, I was told I only had fifteen minutes. I was completely rushed, he argued with me about perscriptions I requested and wouldn't fill them. Of course I promptly received a bill for $357 for the meager fifteen minutes. read more

I saw Dr. Chan on one occasion when my regular MD was not available. He was an excellent physician. Clear, concise, organized, and affable. He gave me good advice and took care of my problem efficiently. I noticed some over reviews here criticizing his English/accent. That is ridiculous. As a gay man I was nervous to see a new doctor and talk about starting PrEP. I hadn't been to a doctor in 5 or so years but Dr. Chan was suggested by a friend. Dr. Chan made me feel comfortable, talking about my needs and concerns, took the time to ask me many questions, and openly listened to my answers. I never felt judged or uncomfortable. I am very surprised with Matthew S comment... I have been seeing Dr Chan for few years. I am a diabetic and had heart attack prior to seeing Dr Chan. I was told by my old doctor that my blood sugar and cholesterol were OK. However, when I met Dr Chan at our first appointment, he told me my blood sugar and cholesterol controls were not ideal. He recommended me to increase the doses of my cholesterol and diabetes medications. I was quite reluctant to do that at first; however, my heart specialist endorsed Dr Chan's recommendations and encouraged me to follow through. Now I don't have the chest pain I used to have. My kidney and liver testings are so much better and are normal now. I don't have to see my heart specialist as often as I used before seeing Dr Chan. I am also very thankful of Dr Chan recommending me to stop taking pain and anxiety medications that I used to. He explained to me that they are very addictive drugs. No one has taken the time to tell me pain medication is addictive in the past. I am glad that Dr Chan has helped to get off these dangerous addictive medicines in the past few years and I am using safer medicines for my anxiety and pain now. I don't find any problem with Dr Chan's communication skill or his bedside manner. He is knowledgeable and is always attentive to my concerns. I have been recommending my coworkers and friends to see him. I always get positive feedback from people I referred to him. read more
