I couldn't look up doctor reviews on the Cigna website so I looked up Dr. Pilavas on Zocdoc. Making reservation was a breeze and Dr. Pilavas actually gave me a phone call to confirm my appointment. I went the week of 6/1, when the office is still closed for non-emergency visits. My condition didn't really call for urgent checkup, but I was lucky to have my appointment set right away. Once I was at the office, there was around an hour wait. However, the doctor was considerate and explained that he has been busy tending to other patients who needed immediate care. Dr. Pilavas was friendly and gently explained to me what's going on with my eye. It turns out the condition is nothing to worry about and I am glad that I visited Dr. Pilavas. With my Cigna open access insurance I had to pay $45 for the copay. It was quite a pleasant experience so I'd recommend Dr. Pilavas for anyone looking for eye care.

I thought that the two positive reviews here on Yelp meant that it would go smoothly. It did not. First and foremost, the main eye doctor there has horrible hours. I arrived around 9:30 for my appointment (the earliest I could get - great for those of us who work regular hours) and the guy waltzes in around 10:30 or so. I don't think I saw him until 11:00 or 11:15, only to find out that he doesn't do contact lens prescriptions, only eye glasses. Now, this may have partially been my fault because when I originally called I assumed whoever I saw would be able to write me the prescription and therefore only asked for a routine eye exam. Still, nobody thought to ask me the reason for my visit during the hour and a half that I sat around waiting to see the doctor? Since the contact lens doctor was not in on that day, and I had already paid them for my visit, it was agreed that what I paid that day would go towards my next visit, when the correct doctor was in. I made an appointment for the following week. The next week, I receive a phone call a day or two before my appointment, confirming the day and time. Great! So today I walk back down there for the second time, and what does the receptionist tell me? The contact lens doctor isn't in today, even though she typically is in on Fridays. My response was, "Why didn't anybody think to call me and tell me this, before I walked all the way down here?" No response. I told the receptionist that I wanted my money back and that I was going somewhere else, to which she said the manager would have to do the refund and she's not in for another hour or so. When I called back I spoke to the manager and she told me that the charge would be refunded to my card that day or the next morning. Well, the next morning came and went and still no refund. When I tried to call (Saturday, 11:45am) I went through the prerecorded menu and eventually ended up at a message saying that they were closed. Well, they're website says they're open 10-1 on Saturdays sooo.... Who knows if I'll ever get my money back from these people. The point is, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE if at all possible. Avoid these idiots like the plague.

I can't imagine a patient ever feeling apprehensive about the procedures!.. there is a smiling and reassuring face at every turn, from the receptionists at the front desk to both Dr. Richard Mackool and his son Dr. RJ Mackool and their support staff in the medical/surgical wing. I have had friends ask me since about my experience there, and I have never recommended anyone as gladly as I do this team of doctors. They have misordered my glasses, messed up my orders, and treated me poorly two years now. I am now without glasses because I have placed an order with this location three separate times for new lenses and they repeatedly have "forgotten" my order. I have had no glasses since September 2025- it's now January 2026. I give up- I will be shopping elsewhere and I recommend you do too. They act like subpar bartenders while they work in healthcare. Luckily, my insurance was accepted and I was able to get an appointment same day in the afternoon. Josh is the person who took care of my needs. He was so easy to talk to, personable, & informative. He had a good vibe & made my experience absolutely seamless. Even went over my insurance policy in detail. He prepped me for Dr. Kaur who was not only adorable, but also very kind. I felt at ease immediately, she has a very gentle touch. Josh was forever patient when it came to helping me choose my frames even though I was beyond indecisive and most likely a little annoying lol. He was a good sport and laughed at my corny jokes. We finally came to a conclusion after some additional help with Dr Kaur. Even without insurance this place is affordable so don't hesitate to walk in! Can't wait to rock my new glasses. :)
