Beatty OD and Sandipkumar Patel OD July 7th 2026-Tuesday My mother and I went to My Eye Dr. 38-03 Broadway Astoria NY 11102 718-956-3000 (Former American Eye Care Dr. Mark R Stadlen OD) for annual appointments. We both were scheduled for 3pm and 3:30pm by Peter. Paperwork was filled out for our charts and Mr. Zion assisted us very pleasant, attentive and helpful. My mother and I completed Eye exams with Zion and Peter and had a great visit with the doctor on duty due to Dr. Van being on vacation. Very great doctors. Never a problem with the doctors. We both are very displeased with the experience we had at the My Eye Dr. Queens location due to the unprofessionalism displayed from your staff members Hailey, Peter and General Manager, Rob Morrison. After seeing the doctor, doctor advised us to wait at the counter until one of the staff members came to assist. It took time for someone to come to the counter due to staff taking breaks and helping other customers. I was seen first by the doctor and no one was available to assist me with picking out the eye glasses so I went back in the room with my mother for her appointment. Once all appointments were completed my mother and I waited at the eye glass table escorted by the doctor. No one came over to serve us. Hailey was outside on a break vape smoking and Peter was on the computer Still waiting at the counter. General Manager, Mr. Rob was assisting a couple that just walked in never once did he acknowledge us at the counter. My mother asked Hailey if someone was going to come to the counter to assist. Then Hailey bumped into mother and didn't say sorry rude behavior. Still waiting at the counter. Rob was already upset due to the fact that we had a grievance letter to show him and staff member, Zion presented it to Rob and his facial expressions changed as if he was angry so he continued to make us wait. Zion put the grievance letter in our folder for review and discussion with Rob. Rob has overcharged my mother over $150 for bifocals lens over the years and the allowance always covered the expenses. Years of 2024 and 2025 multiple bills were sent to my mother for payment after paying the first amount but after a thorough investigation Health First discovered that the amounts that were spent should have not been paid. Peter comes over to serve the couple and while he's serving them with eyeglasses my mother asks Peter when will we be served and he replied he didn't know. We were next to be taken care of. This is totally unacceptable so the lady customer that was standing at the counter and started throwing up her hands and fingers and I intervened because no one was going to hit my mother. No one was aggressive but the couple but they were still served. Rob finally comes over after ignoring us the whole time and makes a comment, "Let's act like adults!" So this is where the commotion started. Still waiting to pick out eyeglasses. Unacceptable. I don't know if Rob was intoxicated or under the influence but he was acting very strange yelling at the customers me and my mother throwing his hands up and expressing are we ready to pick out the eye glasses and then kept changing his mind. Rob refuses to serve us but served the other couple that was served just by waking in. Cash customers first over insurance customers? What is going on here? Then Zion was trying to serve us so we can pick out our eye glasses however, Rob stopped the service and instructed Zion to take our appointment out the system. So our information was shredded. This is unacceptable. On the same day I contacted my mother's health insurance company to make a complaint and this matter is under investigation. My father also attended the same eye doctor location and Rob agreed to let us come back to pick out our eye glasses in 6 days from 7/14/26. Haven't heard anything as of yet. I have been a "MyEyeDr." customer for years, across state lines- from Florida to here. I was a lifelong customer, but this location has changed my mind. They have misordered my glasses, messed up my orders, and treated me poorly two years now. I am now without glasses because I have placed an order with this location three separate times for new lenses and they repeatedly have "forgotten" my order. I have had no glasses since September 2025- it's now January 2026. I give up- I will be shopping elsewhere and I recommend you do too. They act like subpar bartenders while they work in healthcare. I just recently got on my partners insurance and I was searching to get an eye exam & new glasses. I work in Astoria & this place "caught my eye". - Get it?? HA. Luckily, my insurance was accepted and I was able to get an appointment same day in the afternoon. Josh is the person who took care of my needs. He was so easy to talk to, personable, & informative. He had a good vibe & made my experience absolutely seamless. Even went over my insurance policy in detail. He prepped me for Dr. Kaur who was not only adorable, but also very kind. I felt at ease immediately, she has a very gentle touch. Josh was forever patient when it came to helping me choose my frames even though I was beyond indecisive and most likely a little annoying lol. He was a good sport and laughed at my corny jokes. We finally came to a conclusion after some additional help with Dr Kaur. Even without insurance this place is affordable so don't hesitate to walk in! Can't wait to rock my new glasses. :) read more

This place was better before they rebranded as MyEyeDr. Have brought in frames for an adjustment and when they are returned, the AR or UV coating is suddenly crazing (lots of micro fractures). I don't know if it's the cleaner they use or something in the process for an adjustment, but considering that this has happened on two pairs I bought from here, I won't be buying nor getting adjustments at this location again. Of course, because of the crazing I need to replace both sets of glasses. (I've gotten glasses with these type of coatings on lenses for over a decade, had adjustments done before on previous frames, and only from here since the rebrand have I encountered this issue.) read more

Oh my it's a shame. They provide me with a wrong prescription. I was right; they don't know what they are doing. People do not let them do that to you too. Stay away from those deals that seem to be true when they are not. It's just a money making scheme. Have you noticed how many times this chain has had a name change? I do not recommend this place for purchasing glasses or frames. They sell cheap, low-quality frames but charge high prices. I bought a glass just three months ago, and one side of the frame already broke. When I went back to see if they could fix it, they told me I had to buy a whole new frame instead of offering any real solution. Very disappointing experience. read more

This place can only handle simple orders without you having your change prescriptions, and at that point, I might as well just get my contacts for 1800 contacts. I went in at the beginning of the month for a contact lens fitting, the doctors suggested updating my prescription which I went for, but they didn't have the trial in store so I had to wait 2 weeks, the guy told me that will be shipped to me. But surprise surprise, nothing was shipped to me after 2 weeks, or 3 weeks, so I called. At that time, the guy told me they have my prescription in store now so I'll need to come in for a fitting. I said that's not going to work because I'm low on contacts, so I'd rather just go back to my old prescription, he said that expired so he can't let me order and will have to talk to the doctor and then call me back. But of course, no one called me back and when I called to follow up A COUPLE more times, I've been told different stories at times - either they have my prescription in store or don't, and at other times - it's the same story of them going to talk to the doctor about my old prescription and call me back, but they never do! I'll preface this by saying that I do not wear glasses and have only been here twice over the years for routine eye check-ups. I had Lasik over a decade ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. My first experience with this place was a few years ago and both times, they were running about a half hour late. Also, even though I specified both times that my appointment was for routine eye check, I get there and they ask "you're here for contacts as well as glasses?" "Well, no. I'm here for just routine. I don't wear glasses." I would have to make that same comment to every single person that i dealt with, sometimes repeatedly. At both appointments, the Dr. told me that my "vision was basically 20/20" and then asked me if I use technology a lot. Who in the 21st century doesn't? She then told me that I should get their special "computer glasses" that will help with eye strain. They then lead you to the front where you're forced to tell them why you don't need glasses. It's a VERY hard sell for anyone who doesn't need them. They want to push glasses on EVERYONE, whether you need them or not. Eventually, you'll have several people talk about you as if you're not standing right there, saying that "they aren't interested in glasses." I'll be honest, it was said almost in a shaming way. I'll find another place in Astoria to get my check-up's done in the future. And, when I finally DO need glasses, I won't be going to them. read more

I have being Dr.Stadlen for years and he is an amazing doctor. The issue I had today was due to insurance. I checked on my provider Cigna's website before booking my appt. MyEyeDr was listed as being in network for my Cigna Vision plan. When I got to my appt the guy at the front desk told me that my plan was not accepted. Either he doesn't know what he's doing or you should contact Cigna and tell them to remove you as a provider. I left work early and lost money due to this. read more

This is my second visit to this establishment The first time, I had amazing service. I purchased glasses through my union and was upsold on some of the upgrades that my union does not offer. And had amazing service I needed new glasses, and this time went in and said I would only like the frames and lenses that was offered by the union coverage. The lady said here are the pairs and choose one, with an attitude. I thought maybe she was having a bad day. Today I went to pick up the glasses and did not receive the same red carpet treatment that I received when I upgraded the first time. This place is terrible. I had an eye exam and was referred to an ophthalmologist as they didn't have the equipment at this location to run some tests. I went to the referral, had the exams, and they told me they would send the results to the optometrist (at least I think that is what I saw). I called for the results twice and never heard back. I stopped by the location and was told the person was on vacation for 2 weeks and would get back to me. I waited 2 weeks, nothing. Called back again and the aloof receptionist told me that I needed to come back in a year. I asked about results, no response. With care like this I will be selling pencils out of a cup with a seeing eye dog before I know it. read more

I would totally recommend MyEyeDr to anyone looking for an easy eye care experience. I was able to get a Saturday appointment. I had some insurance issues, but every phone call was kind and reassuring. I showed up about 20 mins before my appointment and I was done with new contacts ordered in about 30 mins total. Dr. Broder was gracious and asked lots of questions about my comfort. The staff in the front were friendly and very helpful. I saw another 4 or 5 patients go in. MyEyeDr do not stand behind their product. I went back to them with glasses who's lens coating started cracking after a year and a half and they would not help me. I've been wearing glasses for over 50 years, never had an issue with lens cracking. Clearly a defective product they did not stand behind and wouldn't do the right thing and replace them. read more

This was my best optometrist experience ever. Visited today for as a first-time customer, and will be a customer for life. Four reasons why I was so impressed and why I give American Eye Care my highest recommendation: 1) Dr. Stadlen is an outstanding professional who is prompt, courteous, friendly, and takes the time to explain things in plain terms and make sure the patient understands everything. He is down-to-earth and easy to talk to - I had several questions and he patiently answered everything. And above all, he does not try to sell you anything - he puts your health and your needs first. 2) The staff are an efficient, professional, and friendly team. They made me feel welcome as soon as I stepped in, and were very expedient in processing patients. One staff member was so thoughtful and helped me find the perfect pair of eyeglasses. And I love that they are very transparent - they take the time to walk you through pricing, what your insurance covers or does not cover, etc. they don't try to upsell you, which is a relief. Many other shops try to speed through the details and try to upsell you everything -- not these guys. They are pros. 3) They have a huge selection of stylish premium brands of eyeglasses and sunglasses - Oliver Peoples, Chanel, Ray-Ban, Tom Ford, Sant Laurent, and more. This was very impressive - usually, most other optometrists will only care a small selection of premium brands, and I typically end up having to purchase my glasses elsewhere. This was super convenient to have access to an excellent selection and try on what I'd like. 4) They are a top VSP Insurance provider. So if you have VSP insurance, you will absolutely get the most value for your money here compared to other shops because they offer additional discounts for VSP customers. Highly recommend. I have been going to Dr. Stadlen for several years now. He is punctual, funny, and easy to talk to about all my vision concerns. I do miss Jamie terribly, she was the best, but his entire office staff is absolutely terrific and it really does feel like a warm neighborhood spot where you can pop in with any questions, call and have a live person answer, and also make a formal appointment. I've gotten Versace, Burberry, and Judith Lieber glasses here, all high quality and they give great advice on the best shape and style for your face. I will never go anywhere else. read more

I went to see Dr. Stadlen for the first time in the fall for a medical issue. I just went back for an annual exam and to buy new glasses. They asked me if I was a new patient and apparently couldn't find my chart. I met with Dr. Stadlen, he asks me if I'm here for an exam for glasses, a routine exam, or for contacts. I said annual and I'd like to get new glasses. He goes into telling me about a foaming cleanser, that I had bought during the 1st visit, and was trying to sell it to me again. Maybe his real profession should be a car salesman. I ask him if he found my chart. He says "his assistant is looking for it in the back office and that he can check my contacts when I come back next week for a follow-up." Brings me right away up front so I can buy my new glasses. I ask him if he's brought my old glasses with him. He says "He left them in the Lab". The service was rushed and disorganized. It seems like a vanity business, I'm not sure about the doctor or employees training. How does a doctor's office lose your chart? Especially with your social security number is on it? Never heard of that one. Apparently American Eye Care has their own system that does not work, among the 8 people staffed behind the 4 foot desk. read more

My American eye-care visit was exceptional start to finish! One weekend my girl friend was getting new glasses and I thought to myself "My eyes are perfect, but haven't gotten a checkup in a decade!" So, before I knew it the lady's at the front desk had me signed up for an appointment next week! The doctor was super friendly and answered all my questions, including a floater I've been seeing for months. He said I had perfect eyes (LOL) 20:20 and had nothing to worry about with regards to the floater. To my understanding they accept most insurance! I only have positive things to say about Dr. Stadlen. I had to change my contact lens brand because my old ones were giving me trouble, and he provided many samples to try out and discuss during our follow up appointments. Instead of simply recommending the most expensive types, Dr. Stadlen was understanding about my budget and gave me multiple options from 3 different price points that he explained in detail, which I very much appreciated. The single setback about my experiences here was the wait time. I visited 3 times total, and each time I had to wait about an hour to be seen. Dr. Stadlen seems to have a lot of patients which I can definitely understand why, but the fact that I had to wait this long every time makes me believe that they shouldn't be booking so many appointments in such a short amount of time. Other than that, I didn't have any issues - the receptionists are always kind, and they gave me a copy of my prescription with no hassle when requested. Unfortunately I no longer come here because they don't take my current insurance, but if/when the time comes I change to a coverage that they take, I would like to return...when I also have enough time to wait around. read more

I have been going here for years now and have never had a problem. The staff is friendly and professional. They are good about scheduling, reminding me of appointments, and will take care of me if I need help with something. Their customer service is great. Dr Stadlen is a great optometrist and person. He Listens!! He wants you to see as best as possible and can recommend a variety of products that may or may not fit in your price range. I used to visit this optical for routine eye exams regularly and it was always great, and today I asked for a prescription extension due to COVID limitations and they said no. I'm really disappointed (and now walking blindly since I can't wear my contacts with my spring allergies kicking in). You would think the doctor would allow it given that we're in the middle of a pandemic and we can't go out, but it's clear they care more about what they can charge you instead of helping you during difficult times. My experience was from 2021. I did not meet with Dr. Stadlen. The reason I made my appointment was to be seen by him. My appointment was with a young female Dr. I forgot her name. I wasn't going to leave a negative review, but I just received a text as a reminder for a checkup. The Dr. was not friendly, she was cold, but that wasn't the issue. I don't mind rude doctors as long as do their job right. She checked my eyes, asked me some questions that was it. When I picked up my glasses, I tried them on quickly and rushed out. When I finally worn the glasses, I realized the prescription was off. One eye is too strong, I can't wear these. Luckily I still have my old frames. I could've called the office and let them know the prescription did not work for me, but I already paid and did not want to return. I figured I just need to get use to it. I've tried and nothing has changed. I can't wear the glasses. I'm pretty sure they could've fixed it, if I had went back. Again, I did not want to return. read more

One star goes to the optometrist. He was thorough, intelligent, but pushy, and a rude when I explained that I would like to order my contacts through 1800-Contacts. He borderline made a scene in front of other customers and staff when I explained that I was not yet ready to purchase contacts from his office. Pros: - Smart doctor, explains diagnosis quite well - Thorough exam (even flipped my eye lids over!) - Clean facility - Reasonable prices (I purchased a yelp deal) Cons: - Doctor lacks bedside manners - Snarky attitude - I was completely ignored by his staff when I walked in, and sat around for 35 minutes before anyone even so much as acknowledged my presence. There were 3-4 other staff members there that acted like I was invisible. It was almost humorous. - I tried to call a few times to make a follow-up appointment as per his discretion. Unfortunately, I keep being placed on hold. Today, weeks after my appointment, I was placed on hold for 20 minutes before I began frustrated and hung up. Mind you, I'm in dire need of contacts, he wouldn't give me a prescription after my eye exam, and now I can't even get them to schedule a follow-up. Why can't one of the staff members jot down my number, and call me when they are not busy? Upon the completion of the examination in early July, I asked for a copy of my prescription. He refused to give it to me, saying that I would need to return for a follow-up before he can determine the right fit of lenses for me. This was a little unnecessary, as I have been wearing lenses for 15 years now. So I thought, okay, let me give this trial pair of lenses he offered a shot. But I have yet to be able to get a prescription from him, because I can't get them to make an appointment. Bummer, I really wanted to like this place. Maybe I'll stroll in on them once to try to obtain a copy of my prescription. Overall? Again, smart doctor. But many other doctors exist within more organized clinics. I might try Station Square in Forest Hills (where I live), or perhaps someone else in Long Island. read more

I just wanted to update my previous post. It was time for my yearly checkup and I called and made an appt for both my husband and me. First, appts are really easy to get, they are very accommodating like that. The front desk staff is still super friendly and sweet. They hired some new people and they were nice as well. One of the new girls helped me and my husband pick out frames. The doc was right on point as always and we got three frames for a great price (I need two pairs and my hubby needs one). We also got an amazing deal on some discount sunglasses. Great experience. They are still professional, helpful and overall great. I def recommend them! I also walked in with a pair of sunglasses that I had bought from them about a year ago and one of the legs had fallen off and they repaired it no questions asked, free and it took a few minutes. Their protection coverage on their frames is unbelievable. I have never had a problem with it. Also, I want to add they have the latest seasons/style of very high end brands. The frame selection is really huge and they also have lower cost ones. So there is def something for everyone and they will work with you on the prices. read more

Fluorescent lighting in a small space. Everyone was overly friendly after they realized I was on yelp- before that I was pretty much ignored. Dr. Stadlen was ok, seemed knowledgeable. Not super impressed overall so we will try another place in the future. If you need to pick up your glasses and you call ahead and say I'm right around the corner and they are closing in 10 minutes, forget about getting your glasses- they closed and refused to hand over the glasses. A bit lacking in customer service- this place doesn't go the extra mile for their customers so we will go the extra mile to somewhere better. ;0) read more

Being a regular customer since 2005 I have to say that even when I have not had medical insurance, I've paid out of pocket for services. Why? Because Dr. Stadlen is that good. When I find a good doctor I tell my friends, this staff is great. My family travels up from Puerto Rico to have examinations and purchase products.My friends have been also throughly pleased.
