It is a funny thing about Paddington. I'd only ever thought to cross the bridge for it during the day because mostly everything that I've frequented is noticeably partial to that time frame. And that, by way of deduction, clearly explains the point of the neighbourhood restaurant. The neighbourhood restaurant - a category of which this family-style pizzeria joint falls into - isn't for everyone to know about. It is for the classy types, the crooks, the kids, the young and old couples, the cry-babies and cozy nuclear families from around the area to get together as one entity and eat at their local dining establishment. That is why you won't get a look-in at this place if you're one of those ones who only commutes to Five Ways Paddington during the day. There's nothing to look at. It's dark and it's out of business. Until night-time. And then, if you're clever enough to notice and decide to go anyway, you'll see why everyone around the area comes here. The staff are incredibly accommodating and allow you to choose where you want to sit as long as you arrive at a reasonably early time (doors open at 6pm). You can also, and this is such a rarity these days, make a booking. Once inside, you'll feel warm all over and this will have nothing to do with the heat coming out from those pizza ovens but from the staff attending to your beck and call and from the parents tenderly feeding their little kids or the laughter emanating from the other seating area (attached to the one you're sitting in). My partner and I went a little crazy and ordered garlic bread, two pizzas (beef and onion and the other, Moroccan lamb ((not as good as the beef and onion)) with fettuccine pasta to finish. Yep. Just the two of us. My advice? Don't do that. You will barely walk out of there in a straight line and your bill might be a little nasty - or at least more than you expected. Overall, a great neighbourhood restaurant.

Society Pizzeria Di Catania - A perfect place to enjoy a good red wine!

Society Pizzeria di Catania is a casual and authentic italian food, with homage to Catania, Sicily,…read moreand served with a generous pinch of italian fun. For starters we order the Semplice garlic and mozzarella calzone ($8). The slices softly ooze melted mozzarella and on first bite we develop a satisfying stringy, cheesy bond with the Semplice. Heaven!! The Caprese salad ($12) of bufala mozzarella, roma tomato and basil is simple, fresh and vibrant on the plate as well as on the palate. Society Pizzeria Di Catania have 3 pizza sizes; traditional, 0.5m and 1m pizzas. Given we want to try 2 types, our waitress suggests the 0.5m rectangular pizza, which is the same cost and size as selecting 2 traditional round pizzas separately. The pizza board is massive when it arrives, with generous toppings all the way to the edges. The aroma of truffle oil is from the Marcantonio ($20) is irresistable, and compliments the saltiness from the proscuitto and the lightness of the fior di latte cow's milk mozzarella. The wood-fired dough is super light and thin, with puffy cloud-like crusts that are easy to eat.

Lucio's is about the same distance walk from Hyde Park, just in the other direction, tucked in a quiet residential area. They don't take reservations so we made sure we were there right at 6 when they opened. Friendly servers stacked some tables up and we enjoyed the outdoor-cafe ambiance watching people in a stroll or arriving at ours and the other little restaurants in the square. The pizza was just what we've come to expect from certified Neopolitano pizzerias. The crust is key: thin, chewy and delicious. They have a wide variety of toppings. We loved the Calzone but just as toppings on the pizza, the Fontina, the arugula-prosciutto one and the white-sauce broccoli. We ordered the 1 meter pizza (which is NOT a diameter like we were thinking - more like 4 pizzas in a row) but it wasn't enough so we ordered another 1/2 meter. The rocket-pear salad was also very good. We finished the equivalent of 6 pizzas between 8 adults and 3 kids. One of us was gluten free so they brought a mozzarella/prosciutto plate. The location was nice. The kids could run around the square while we sat and chatted. It filled up quickly - if you have a big group get there early.
