Ah this is one of the best pizza joints in SYDNEY! hands down. Went here for my 3rd time and forgot to check in! (gasp!) Ah well more time to there again soon. Called about 4pm to check if there were any spare tables and got a spot for 4 people at 6.30pm. Place was already buzzing when we arrived, considering its still the school holidays we were seated near the doorway on the right. Staff are efficient and friendly. Our entree of buffalo mozzarella cheese, prosciutto and warm bread sticks were a hit! Followed by the Rocco, Fungi and boscaiola which was on the special board arrived not too long after we had finished our entrees. This place is BYO which is great as you don't have to worry when you have 2 or more bottles of wine to share :D I purposely did not fill up on the main just so we could order the Nutella calzone, this is the most delicious, gooey chocolate dessert you will ever have. complete with some flaked almonds and dusted sugar. hmmmm yum! NO corkage is one of Le Regole (The Rules)! This is the Rule that most appeases me. However it was Rule No. 2 that left Baroness aghast and rebellious. Rule No.2 at Balmain's Rosso Pomodoro was no pineapple on the pizze. As she is a Queenslander she finds this particularly offensive and considers such a statement as an affront to 5 million of her fellow Queenslanders (pineapple is the Sunshine State's 'national fruit' with the ham and pineapple pizza as the State's 'national dish'). I quietly say Bravo Rosso Pomodoro! You know you are going to get a serious and authentic true-to-form Napoli pizza if pineapple is prohibito. But Le Regole don't stop with our prickly golden oval friend - other direttiva prominently on display are 'no half and half'; 'only Italian mozzarella used' (note: is there any other??); 'only Italian toppings '(note: therefore no Mexicana pizzas or meat lovers); 'Italian certified pizza maker used'; and 'pizza is cooked straight on the stone'. Could it get any better than this for pizza dilettante? You betcha. Rosso Pomodoro is renowned as one of the best places to get pizza in Sydney and also for Sydney's most expensive pizza - the tartufo di Tasmania - and it only is made around June/July when Tasmanian truffles are in season. This place is the real deal! I had a deeeelicious, 100% authentic and amazing pizza here - the capers and anchovies made my heart sing! My friend had a pizza with pepperoni on it, that was also delicious. This is the kind of place where you walk in and you're stopped in your tracks by the smell of garlic and olives. The staff are all Italian, and NO! You may not have a frickin' ham and pineapple anathema because they don't and won't serve it. Hehe. By fair the greatest pizza in nsw if not Australia. I have been to many authentic pizza places having come from an Italian background and I can say that without a doubt Rosso Pomodoro is absolutely spectacular. They have a wide range of pizzas from traditional to contemporary pizzas. They ferment the dough for 72 hours and it really does make a difference, the flavour in the base of the pizza is unlike anything else, it's more mature and mouthwatering. The pizza was not soggy, it had a lovely balance of toppings among all pizzas. The staff were very friendly and happy to talk in Italian to my grandmother about Italy and their range of cured meats. Although I don't think the service to the general public is upto the same standard. The ambience was that of a small Italian restaurant which was suitable to some tastes however I found it a little dull and empty for what it was. I would highly recommend it to anyone looming for quality food. read more

Just tried out this place Saturday. Super yummy pizzas - classic Italian style - thin crust, high quality fixings - with no funky combos like salmon, walnuts, feta cheese or anything weird like that. Bruschetta super fresh with tomatoes and basil, perfect pizza style crust that serves 6 for $14. We had 5 people: 3 Pizzas, 1 Bruschetta, 1 salad, 3 Desserts (the Tiramisu was wonderful!), and coffee/tea. It was about $150. Good deal. Nice wait staff, and casual. I'd advise making a booking if you have a big crowd. Loud, but not horrible. read more

Great pizza joint with super friendly (not to mention incredibly good-looking) staff. We had the saracena (tomato, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, basil, parmesan) and one of the blackboard specials, the pizza romana (mozzarella, porchetta [pork] and pecorino cheese). Both pizzas were excellent, the pork one especially so. I've never had pork on pizza before (not counting ham and other processed meats) so I was sceptical when my boyfriend insisted on ordering it, but I'm really glad we did. The pork pieces were moist and flavoursome and they tasted even better smothered in melty, gooey cheese. The crust on the pizzas was very good. Nice and thin and not too chewy at the ends. We ordered the Nutella calzone for dessert and it was the most enormous dessert I have ever seen. It was delicious but to be honest it didn't taste all that different from what I have for breakfast most mornings, Nutella on toast (OK so I'm still a kid, what's it to ya). The base of the calzone was also a bit too hard IMO, which made the calzone very hard to cut (they serve it to you whole with a rolling pizza cutter). We didn't realise how big the dessert was going to be when we ordered it (easily big enough for four or five people) so we ended up doggy-bagging half of it. Probably wouldn't order it again if we ever go back and would go for something like the Nutella panna cotta instead, which was one of the blackboard specials. read more

Omg i love this place. Apparently all the people who work here and make pizza had to go to a university to do so!!! I don't know if they do but man does it taste like it! We booked our table for 4 the day prior (for a Wed night dinner) and there were no problems fitting us in. Service was friendly, the place was full and noisy, and the food was fantastic! Thin, traditional pizza with simple toppings. We started with the bruschetta - so fresh and delicious and stacked high on the thin crisp pizza base. The best I've ever had. Next came our Regina Margherita (with fresh buffalo mozzarella and cherry tomatoes) - which is definitely the best Margherita I've had in Sydney. After this was a divine potato & sausage pizza (amazing) and a spicy, lots of meat type pizza which was delish as well. We had 3 pizzas, 1 salad and 1 bruschetta between us, and had no room for dessert. Big regrets there, as the table next to us had the Nutella calzone, and it looked epic! $120 for four. Great looking pizzas. Unfortunately the crust was ok but not great and the ingredients a bit too wet to keep the center crispy. The white gorgonzola pizza was too light on the gorgonzola so it had cheesiness but missing the tang from the blue. Hidden away from Balmain's made restaurant street - situated near the docklands of Balmain and the numerous housing that surrounds. Rosso is a great little Italian secret just a few minutes drive from Sydney CBD. You'll see that it is famed for it's Pizza and its authenticity, which is completely valid with an all Italian staff, as well as only using imported Italian cooking produce. I had a Pizza and a Calzone and both were light and full of flavour, the pizza are traditional "less is more" pizzas that you would find in Italy. The Calzone was rather large and very filling (best to share with another!) I have a sweet tooth so I could not resist the tiramisu that was amazing with Italian mascarpone and dark chocolate pieces that make it a best seller - last meal on earth kinda stuff :) read more

Nice little Italian restaurant near the water in balmain. Friendly service, good atmosphere and nice food selection. The pizzas are made fresh are pretty authentic. Only downside is that they serve the pizzas on china plates which makes the base too soft to eat with hands. Great taste though. Would come back for it read more

Best Pizza in Sydney!!!! The Gorgonzola is my favorite but I'm dedicated to working my way through the whole menu just to be certain

An ex-business partner was related to the original owner of Rosso Pomodoro (Rocky) and we got to know it very well. We thought of it as our restaurant and went there quite often. When Rocky left to follow his girlfriend overseas, Kati and her partner, who had been brought out from the pizza academy in Naples took over the business. They have been very successful in building the business up, so much so that you now have to book two weeks or more at times, in advance. The pizza here is the real thing, no more than three toppings, no ham and pineapple and no half and half. The crust is thin and delicious and made with authentic ingredients from Italy: mozzarella & gorgonzola cheese, prosciutto and beautiful red sauce. The pizzas are cooked straight on the floor of the oven, they don't use aluminium trays - no extra oil and a crisper base. If you don't like red sauce you can have pizza bianco (or without sauce). They have several traditional choices like Patate e Salsiccia or Gorgonzola, or my favourite Porcini e Prosciutto. They serve antipasti, pasta and desserts. They even have healthy salads for those who don't want to indulge. Food for two will set you back $50 with drink on top of that. read more

Ahhh the great old war of the pizzas, which establishment in Sydney is best? Surely this ranks up in the top 3! Great pizzas, fresh ingredients, mmm the right amout of basil and incredible tomato! Came here for a girls night catch up (6 in total) and Rosso Pomodoro came highly recommended from an Italian native and it certainly stood up to the recommendation. Ohhhh I almost forgot to mention, if you're a Nutella lover (and who isn't really) this place is a must visit, Nutella pannacottta, nutella crepes. Thats all I'm saying. The only negative I have to say about this restaurant is the noise level, now I'm not one to shy away from noise (especially coming from a Mediterranean background myself so talking loudly is in our blood), however, at one stage, I thought we were at some underground club screaming across the table for others to hear. read more

We pre booked a table and upon arrival were seated by the front window and were immediately served by some lovely wait staff who were helpful and polite. Our order consisted of the anti pasto dele casa, which was very fresh and tasty. We had the lasagne and a cappricosa pizza for mains both of which arrived within 10 minutes and were very enjoyable. If your looking for your more aus-afied pizza then you will be searching hard with no respite; as the sign on the wall clearly states 'no ham and pineapple!' There is a nice little bottle shop less than two minutes walk heading north, so take advantage of the 'no-corkage' situation. read more

We were recommended Rosso Pomodoro some years back and have been going ever since. We love the tasty pizzas and the fact that most of the wait staff are imports with great accents. Our favourite, definitely shared between four people, is the nutella calzone for dessert. Only disappointment was the tiramisu which has been partly frozen at times. Came here tonight based on reviews I have read. The pizza is not great. First we ordered a prosciutto pizza and a capricciosa pizza. Both bases were very soggy and there was hardly any cheese on the pizza! What's a pizza if you cannot taste or see the cheese! Second of all there was a hair is my prosciutto pizza! I called over the waitress and informed her, she looked shocked and did not say anything. I asked for a replacement plate. She re placed my plate but my apology was no where to be seen. No one came over to apologies. Lastly we ordered a nutella pizza, and to be honest with you I didn't want another pizza from this place but my little one wanted a nutella pizza. So it looked great! But here's what was wrong, the base was so thin and overcooked that it was as crunchy as kettle potato chips! Never again! Very disappointed! read more
