As a male with medium/long hair I've always struggled to find a place that is able to deal with it properly. Will was absolutely amazing. He explains what he's doing/what needs to be done to achieve what you want to get out of your hair. I honestly have never had such an amazing Experience with a salon, the vibe is amazing and you definitely walk out with an amazing relationship with your hair. I have been seeing Flint at Chrome for a few years now. He actually fixed a really bad hair situation that happened at a different salon. I love the service that you get. Chrome is the sister salon to Beauty Lounge on Jasper, both salons are owned by William Halabi. William is amazing with his customer service, even as he takes care of his own clients he makes sure that he is overlooking everyone to make sure we are all satisfied and that his employees are doing ok as well. Flint has been around for a long time but everything is always a learning experience and he is so open to taking advice from William to make sure that his clients are satisfied. I love that they do not try to push product sales. I recommend everyone call them even during the pandemic they are very careful and organized. read more

So I did it...I got my hair did! It was a big deal because it was the first time I had set foot in a salon since before I even got married, save for that one terrible, horrible bang trim that we shall never speak of again. I came here with one of those deal vouchers, which normally I never ever buy, but this salon is hugely popular and already had fairly good reviews on Yelp, so I took the plunge - highlights and a haircut for half price. My stylist, Sheena, was pretty nice. She was quiet when she first started highlighting but then she warmed up, and we ended up chatting throughout the entire (2.5 hour) appointment. She looked young but she has actually been doing hair for ten years. That made me feel much better! Once the highlights were in, I chilled out with a huge assortment of magazines. Sheene asked me a couple of times throughout the appointment if I needed anything, ie. tea, coffee, water but I had brought a latte with me. We washed out the colour, set the toner, and rinsed again. Overall, it's a nice little salon with some cool, oversized art pieces on the walls and a friendly atmosphere. To be nitpicky: I didn't love the white walls (pink, or even off-white, is more my style) and the cubby holes in place of coat racks. My hair turned out amazing. The colour exceeded my expectations and I love the cut. She did a great job with my bangs, and I am *very* picky about my bangs! It was a really positive experience and I can definitely see myself returning. read more

I took my mom in today to get her hair coloured and cut by William. The salon today was very very busy. I am very impressed at how they were able to manage a chaotic Saturday and I'm guessing this is their busiest day of the week. The front end lady was very nice and professional while we waited for William to come by. My mom's appointment was at 1pm but we were 30 mins early and we were fine in waiting. William came with a big smile, consulted my mom in what she wanted done with her hair and then one of the stylist took my mom in to get started. I of course took off to Hudsons just around the corner to have a couple of drinks while I waited. I came back about an hour to check up on my mom to make sure she was ok and where she was in the process. I can't believe that it was a steady pace of busy. She was doing great almost ready to have her hair cut after the dye (which looked great btw). I was back to pick her in 45 mins and was just in time. My mom looked amazing! The colour was bold but natural, the hair style suited her well and it had a touch of spunk to it. I could tell right away my mom was very happy, she had the brightest smile on her face. Likely my new salon now! I saw the deal on groupon for a cut and colour for $80 and, after reading these reviews, decided to give it a go (I'm usually a little skeptic on the salons offered on groupon but these reviews were great and they did not lie!). As said, I paid $80 for a cut and colour but I went in wanted to dye the underside of my hair a purple/red colour and to add highlights to the rest of it. My stylist was Holly and she offered a lot of great advice on how to approach what I wanted, especially since I was on the fence about what colour to do and if I needed highlights, where to put them, etc. She also said I would just need to pay an additional amount if I wanted to get the highlights as well, which I thought was definitely fair and still ended up being cheaper than any other place would have been (also the price she gave me was the price I actually paid; no unexpected additional fees like I've had happen at many other places). The appointment ran a bit longer than I anticipated (about 3 hours) but I can't really fault them for that, since they were doing nothing but ensuring everything was very thoroughly done. I.e. making sure to rinse my colours separately so they didn't run together, adding a toner to it, and taking the time to blow dry, cut, and style it properly. I can't stand when I get my hair done and the stylist just straightens it to stick-thin and I was very happy that Holly asked my opinion on the style and then left it thick and curly when I left. She also took her time cutting it and making sure everything was even. I came 10 mins early before my appointment time. I was standing at the counter for about 5 mins, no one was acknowledging me being there. The staff clearly saw me and just looked at me. So someone finally asked my name and told me to wait. Another staff also saw me and told me to wait. Another lady arrived just after I did and just waited less than 5 mins. Finally, a hairstylist assisted me after 30 mins of waiting. What is the point of these appointments if you will not follow the time? She did however apologized for the long wait but still, do not confirm the appointment slot if no one is able to assist. Got a Groupon voucher for cut, treatment, color. I had to pay extra for the hair color due to the amount required for my hair. I don't think I got the treatment part. If I did, then I was not aware. The stylist was nice and very accommodating. I have gone to this salon a few times now and I would definitely recommend it to others. Aesthetically, the salon looks chic/modern, they offer you tea or coffee, and get you in promptly. Holly was my stylist for both times that I have been, she does a great job- however, if you have naturally black hair, I wouldn't go here, yes, it does make a really big difference when you have stylist who are experienced with Asian/and or ethnic hair (only if you are wanting to achieve a creative colour) The staff are great and the prices are fair. I honestly had a terrible experience at this salon, as well as its sister location, The Beauty Lounge. The staff were rude, the color treatment on my hair only lasted a few days (without even washing it) and when I asked my hair to be cut with a blunt edge, the result was my hair being cut at a variety of different lengths - but none that matched up, or had any semblance of a 'style'. I feel like I walked out of there looking like the Garbage Bag Princess! If you are particular about your hair - do not come to this salon! If you are someone who likes to be treated with respect - do not come to this salon! If you are someone who wants their hair to look like what was initially talked about, or consulted on - do not come to this salon! If you are someone who wants to get the value out of what you're paying for - do not come to this salon! Beware men and ladies alike - if you are thinking about booking an appointment - I urge you to think again! Doing hair is a delicate and challenging thing; it affects how you feel and see yourself. Getting your hair done should be a process that holds the client in high regard, not a playground for silly experimentation, or so-called 'artistry'. My stylist was Kirsten and I'm left feeling very disappointed. She barely asked me what I wanted and didn't check in with me a single time during the cut. She wasn't friendly and I didn't seem to care when I made comments about what I was looking for. Despite saying I wanted to keep the length. She took way more than I wanted and the layers are lopsided and uneven. It looks terrible unless I style it super flat, which is exactly what I told her I don't do with my hair. I went here today to get my haircut freshened up after buying a Groupon for a cut & style :) Ach, I'm terrible for names and now I feel kind of bad cos the girl that did my hair did a nice job, and deserves a good recommendation. Anyway, she was super nice, very friendly, but I also felt pretty relaxed with her - you know how sometimes it feels awkward if the conversation dies down; well I felt pretty relaxed there the whole way through. I would say that since I started getting the haircut I currently have, this is the second-best job I've had done on it, so that's really quite good! I can relate to the other post (below). My sister had her hair cut there. Stylist couldn't be bothered to listen to her. She walked in with shoulder length hair asked for a 1" - 2 " cut (Bob's were huge then). She walked out in tears, with her hair up to her ears. She was so upset she couldn't even complain to the manager. She paid her $70 (because she was in shock) and a few days later called to complain. The stylist spoke to her like it was her fault, not even the slightest hint of an apology came out of her mouth. She asked to speak with the Manager who was just as bad and get this.. offered her 20% off her next cut. Ha...like that is going to happen. I've gone to Sierra twice and I love how she does my hair. I had my hair colored once by her and got a cut twice. I have very long thick hair right now and I struggle usually to find a hairdresser that can make me happy. Sierra is awesome and I'd like to keep going to her. She is fantastic at giving advice on products and being open with her opinion. When I looked around the salon everyone seemed to be doing a great job and everyone seemed really nice, I can confidently say that I'd be ok letting anyone in that salon cut my hair. My regular hairdresser was completely booked up and I desperately needed a bang trim. I checked Yelp and Chrome had good reviews, and they were able to get me in right away, so I decided to give them a chance. Flint was the hairdresser who cut my bangs. He was obviously experienced, asking me questions as to what I liked and didn't like, and flat ironed my bangs before cutting. He was meticulous in the process. I was reasonably happy with the trim though I couldn't tell what it was really like until I washed it later, and it turns out I kind of have a cowlick right around my bangs that made them a bit uneven. They grew out fine though. The bang trim was $10, which seems ok given that I'm not a regular customer. Flint said his specialty is ombré of all sorts, so if I was considering that, I'd probably come back to give him a try. The salon was busy, most people having colour done, and clean and professional. Oh they also carry a full line of Kevin Murphy products, as well as this interesting brand of flat irons called Vibrastraight that oscillates to straighten. read more

I initially started going here a few years ago when I got a groupon for foils and cut. I've have been going every since and only seen Flint. I have been very happy with him. I don't do anything to crazy, but I'm a bit particular with things. He listens to what I'd like and makes recommendations. I've always been happy with how things have turned out. The salon is quite busy. There are only two sinks so sometimes it can seem like you have to wait to have your hair washed.Chrome and beauty lounge work together. I like that there is free parking at Chrome. But, at beauty lounge there is more space and it doesn't seem to be as busy which is nice. I went in as a Groupon customer, and was told that my stylist was running late with another client. Immediately, they told me they could squeeze me in with the manager, Brittany. She is awesome. She asked me a lot of questions about what I usually do with my hair, what I do for a living, etc. to make sure she was giving me what I wanted. The last time I had a haircut was awful (at a different salon) and the stylist then just chopped me a shelf of bangs halfway around my head. It was ridiculous. Brittany did her best to fix it for me and made it look a lot better. They also offer a "rebuy" option for Groupons, so you can buy up to 3 more Groupons directly from Chrome for your next visits. :) They do focus a lot on product upsell, which can be annoying, but I found that they weren't too pushy about it. I did end up buying Biotop 911 Serum Spray, which Brittany had used on my hair that day, and was relatively inexpensive. read more

I think I found my salon! Great atmosphere, very trendy and located in a newer developed area in Oliver. I was excited to try a new salon and got my hair cut and coloured with a Groupon for $80! I was first introduced to this salon through a groupon. I'm sometimes scared with groupons because you don't always know what you're getting. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got there! The salon itself is small, but what do you expect from a salon downtown? The staff are very friendly! When I went, I was given Kristy N as my stylist. She was fun and spunky and knew exactly what I wanted. She has since become my regular stylist. This is by far the best salon I've visited in Edmonton. I usually just go to the school to get my haircut because I just get a very basic trim but if I'm also getting it dyed I will splurge and go in to see someone who really knows what they're doing. I'm so happy I chose to go here, the stylist really listened to what I wanted and made small suggestions on what they though would look best. I went 2 shades darker and had about 5 inches cut off the bottom. I did have a few people helping out during the whole process so someone else washed my hair and started the blow dry but the dye application and the cut were done by the same person. My hair came out exactly how I wanted it and I rarely leave a salon feeling completely satisfied. They do try and up sell product and gift certificates pretty intensely but that isn't something that bothers me. I will probably be back this time next year to get it done for Christmas again. read more

Just came from Chrome after purchasing a Groupon not too long ago. I was afraid that being "one of those customers" that I would be treated differently than the regular customers. Not at all.. Holly B was my stylist and she was great! I'm not much of a talker when I get in the chair and she didn't push any conversation until I was ready. I told her exactly what I wanted and was pleasantly surprised that I got what I wanted. Over the last few years, I have jumped from stylist to stylist because my general feelings have been "yeah.. okay, that works".. and I won't revisit. I loved the way Holly cut my layers and framed my face exactly the way I wanted. The only reason I won't give the last star is because I found the salon was quite small, crowded (Thursday is their busiest night), and the water during my wash was freezing (not their fault.. but it's all part of the "experience" right?) I went to this salon for the first time and asked for a stylist who knew how to cut short curly hair when I booked the appointment. The stylist I was paired with was nice and professional, however she didn't use the diffuser correctly, didn't dry my hair to check whether it needed any modifications beyond the wet cut, and didn't style it. This was very surprising since it is explicitly stated that a blow-dry and style are included in the cut, and otherwise the service I received did not justify the rather significant price. By the time I got home my hair was still wet and had been unable to curl naturally due to the sticky product she had put in it. I also had to clean up the ends myself as she had left them scraggly and unfinished. I would not recommend this salon for naturally curly hair, and while my hair looks fine I do feel I overpaid given what I received. read more

When Will did it he was constantly leaving the chair to meet people in the back. I started wondering if there was another business going on there....He yelled at his staff which made me cringe. I must agree with the prior review about the customer service from the rest of the salon team, however. I have had my hair cut and styled there and while the technical work was acceptable, my stylist made no attempts at conversation, and seemed to sulk through the cut. I go to Chrome to get my eye brows done. SHE IS AMAZING. I haven't found any where else that comes close to being as good as the girl at Chrome. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about their stylists. Their prices are outrageous. I was expecting to pay maybe $150.00 MAXIMUM and my end price was around $320.00. I couldn't believe it. I actually left the salon holding back tears. My hair cut was awesome when I left, but when I got home and tried to style it myself it looked horrid. The color faded really quickly and I did everything the stylist said to do. The ONLY good part of my experience was the assistant. She was adorable and so sweet. The girl doing my hair treated me like she had better things to do and was too good to cut my hair, but the assistant talked to me and treated me like a person. I've been here twice with two different stylists. Time 1: I was a Groupon customer and I wasn't treated like one. I loved my color (vibrant and left my hair feeling healthy) and liked the cut although the bangs left a little to be desired. They didn't blend into the hair nicely. The stylist was nice but seemed to be focused on herself in terms of conversation. Time 2: Color: I spoke to the stylist for a brief moment about color and before I knew it, she had disappeared and was mixing it and then applying it without showing me a color swatch. I wasn't too impressed with that. What do you say after she starts applying it and you realize what she's doing. Cut: Alright. I still have dry ends after asking to have them ALL cut off because I don't get a hair cut too often. Overall, not bad except the bangs. I mentioned more than 5 times that I wanted to keep them long and she cut them relatively short. She quickly asked me before she cut if it was ok and I thought it might be too much since I had mentioned wanting long bangs a number of times but trusted her. Turns out, they are at an awkward length again, after trying to grow them out and now they do not blend well. Not too happy about that. Stylist was nice. They work big time on the up-sell of products so be aware of that. The decor is a bit outdated in red but still fairly nice. I was offered coffee after I was washed and my color was put in. I waited a looong time for it and after about 20 minutes, my stylist told me she forgot about it and brought me the same cup she poured 20 minutes earlier. It was cold and I didn't drink it. I was not offered another one. Overall, ok. Nothing exceptional to make me go back....and I still don't love the bangs. :-( read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Honestly. So, I went to Will for a colour and a cut. I had blonde highlights and wasn't happy with it so Will suggested that we do one big, bold, colour. I was really excited. I didn't see Will again for about 3 hours. His apprentice did absolutely everything. He would pop over every hour to glance at it and then walk away. She was really nice and chatted a lot, I trusted that he was watching what she was doing- nope. She left the colour in for way too long and he ended up coming back a few hours later, scolded her for leaving it in too long and rushed me to the sink. When I got back into the chair my hair was absolutely fried. He said he was really worried about the roots and they toned it back to a dark blonde colour. Not at all what I wanted. THEN he blamed everything on me. He said that I was too chatty with the apprentice. He finally came back to do my "cut", if you can call it a cut. He took nothing off the ends and tried to pretend that he was the only stylist that did a "surface cut", even though I had it done at Mousy Browns about a month earlier. Not to mention that the entire time I was there the place was packed. They completely over booked and the other stylists were really rude and just awful. In the end, I ended up spending maybe 20 minutes with Will and it cost me roughly $500. I paid the "Will" price when really his apprentice did all the work. And by work, I mean ruining my hair completely. I am still trying to fix it and it has been 8 months. DO NOT GO HERE! it's an absolute joke. A few of my friends have gone as well and have horror stories about the stylist leaving black hair dye in for an hour and all of her roots are burnt and breaking, all because they didn't have enough chairs. It was my first time at Chrome Salon and wow, am I ever impressed. I did have a $30 groupon for a women's cut with style and conditioning treatment. Upon reading the reviews and realizing Chrome is quite a busy salon, I was expecting to get in for an appt in roughly about 2 weeks. When I called to make my appt, Randy was quite pleasant and helpful. To my surprise, they did have an opening in 2 days and it was their last appt (7:30 pm), which I took. I arrived 10 minutes late as I got a little confused to where the salon was. Upon arrival, the receptionist was very polite and welcoming, even though I did arrive late and I was their last appt. Chrome has a modern look and is quite clean. Although, I was a little taken back once a little dog came up to me and started barking at me. Instantly, the owner of the dog (which happens to be my stylist), came up to us and apologized to me about her little friend. She also introduced herself as Kristy and took me back to get work station. I did already have a idea of what I would like my hair to look like for quite sometime. I did show Kristy a picture of the style I wanted and she was quite informative of the alternations that may happen. Kristy's scalp massage was very relaxing and she even massaged my neck! I have been to multiple salons and usually find the scalp massage to be uncomfortable. Also, it was my first time getting my neck massaged and my goodness, it was heavenly. I usually have a difficult time talking with hair stylists as I have moderate to severe social anxiety but there was something about Kristy that made me very relaxed and comfortable. We talked and laughed non stop for a full hour. When she was done with my hair, I was completely shocked as to how it turned out. Never have I had my hair look exactly as I wanted it to be and Kristy did a AMAZING job. Kristy also took the time to teach me styling tips that I could easily do at home and even demonstrated the styling techniques on her hair. She answered all my questions confidently and with ease. For only spending $30 on a haircut, I was very impressed. I truly believe I have finally found my go-to stylist after 7 years of looking. I will DEFINITELY be back! read more

I was quite disappointed after my experience at Chrome. I can't comment on the stylists' hair cutting skills, but when I went for a blow out and make-up application, the service didn't live up to my expectations. The make-up application was... scary. To start off, the make-up artist wasn't helpful at all during the consult. I gave her suggestions as to what I was looking for,what colour of clothes I would be wearing, and what I definitely did not want, but she insisted that I pretty much pick out the exact colours. While I understand that she wanted my input and approval in the process, I would have appreciated her professional opinion. As the makeup application progressed, it became more and more disconcerting. I asked the makeup artist what brands of products she was applying, and she told me that she was using drugstore brands because even though some people think they're cheap and that you shouldn't buy them, she thinks they work. Her professionalism was severely lacking. She complained about previous clients, swore quite a bit, and even told me that she found make up school quite challenging. Unfortunately, the finished product (my face), did not instill any faith in her abilities. She caked on the foundation, and even after I asked her to tone down the eyeshadow, I still ended up the black eye look, complete with the raccoon eye eyeshadow fallout. I ended up fixing her makeup application later. Overall, the hair styling wasn't as awful as the makeup application, but the customer service was. My stylist chatted on about how she is planning on leaving the salon and the hair cutting profession (not the best way to drum up business), swore quite frequently, and even made some suggestive comments about her new vibrating hair straightener. Added 85$ to the groupon to do some foils, even though the groupon included a full hair color. (I'm not sure if the foil price had already been deducted from the groupon...) Love the haircut I got. Stylist was Holly. She listens to what you want and she seems experienced. Also liked that she followed me through the entire process as opposed to handing me off to someone else to wash my hair. The color I got was exactly as imagined.! And I loved my haircut, except the bangs were cut a little too short.. But it grows back so quickly anyways that it isn't a huge deal. The owner was also there and seems to care about his business. He made an effort to talk to the clients about their experience. He will also chat with the stylists and offer tips or help them out with little things. The salon was busy, but I felt like the staff had excellent time management. I went here on a groupon and saw a young female stylist. I told her I didn't need it washed but she said she needed to wash it before cutting. Then when it was wet, it got tangly and she complained the whole time that my hair was too tangled. When I tried to change the topic, she would change it back to my hair being tangly. I've never had this complaint before and brush it regularly... but it was so awkward I will never go back. The atmosphere was nice and the groupon was a good deal, the haircut was OK, it was just an awkward experience. read more
