Every day they work to make dreams come true - whether it's sending a child and their family to Disney Land, giving them the thrill of meeting their favorite celebrity or taking an adventure they've always wanted to go on. Johnson has been part of hundreds of wishes, and when I met him he was involved in sponsoring a Home Makeover for a family with nine adoptive kids who risked losing them if they didn't pass new licensing standards put in place by the government. Eldon made some calls to people who made some calls to people and soon they had over 40 companies in Edmonton willing to help renovate the home. We live in a culture that turns a blind eye to suffering every day. If you want to be touched by magic, the Make-a-wish Foundation is a great place to volunteer or sponsor.

(they have walkers and other aids to daily living). You drive into the old ambulance bay at the General Hospital. You are directed to the elevator and go down 1 floor. Follow the signs. Check in at the front desk. Wait for your item to be brought to you. They will go over the paperwork with you. You get to use the item for 6 months. You can apply again if the items are needed for a longer period of time. You will be encouraged to make a donation to the Red Cross. They ask everyone. I dropped off an old walker instead of giving them cash. They are grateful for any donation. This was an easy chore, but I would have liked an offer to lift the wheelchair into my vehicle. I'm not sure if that help is available.

At the time I didn't think that this would be an issue, however it sure has been. I am Handicapped myself and I can not walk why is this an issue u say because there is no one there to off load the wheelchair and stuff in my uplander and I can't lift or walk. Then they tell me that I can call once I am there like WHAT! I don't have a phone sorry on Aish. With Smith's cuts we cant even afford to eat, never mind have a phone. Then they tell me that I will have to pay then to send it into a taxi cab like WTH . I am not paying nothing u don't want the stuff back I will drop it off at goodwill where people will come take it out of my vehicle the minute I drive up. They seem to be great at getting the items to people but totally shite the bed on when items need to be returned and lord forbid u are Handicapped trying to return stuff as they are not set up for that. Also do not call the company that deliver's the stuff to people when the RED CROSS loan it out, as they also are rude and treat people TERRIBLE. Finally she explains that they have nothing to do with RED CROSS they just deliver( yet there name and phone number is all over the paper work.) for them and that yes I can drop it off to them but they also will not come out the get it from vehicle and they will charge u to drop it off to them! Shocking really when all a person is trying to do is get the stuff brought back so others can use it.

After that I did some research on the organization and became really impressed with the wide range of services they offer to help at risk youth. It isn't just about giving them shelter but also about helping them develop the skills to function and be successful on their own should going home to their families not be an option. There is counselling,assistance in getting access to medical care,assistance with accessing financial aide programs, and help with job and education searches. Unfortunately years after college when I was doing respite one of the kids I was caring for ended up having to go here and I agree somewhat with the gentleman who posted the not recommended review in regards to some of their rules seeming somewhat strict. I remember the young lady I just mentioned calling me one evening asking me to pick her up because it was after 11 and the staff at the shelter would not let her in. To this day I am still very split with how I feel about this. On one hand I understand that they are trying to teach respect for rules and accountability for your actions but on the other hand I do wonder what type of people she might have ran into that night had she not been able to find somewhere else to go. I still rate it four stars though because I have such an overwhelming amount of respect for the work they do and have read many great success stories from former clients of theirs. I also believe there is two sides to every story and cannot be sure that there were not other extenuating circumstances that lead to her not being let in that evening. I will end my review in similar fashion to that of Nicole's when I say if you know a youth in your area that needs help or your looking to volunteer your time and make an impact with a great organization give these guys a call today!

They incorporate small group activities that focus on specific areas of development such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, communication etc. The children are grouped by skill level to ensure activities are appropriate. They also allow for exploratory play in the class and have a variety of toys/items that appeal to the different senses (toys that make different noises, toys that are visually stimulating etc). A hot lunch is served every day and the babies sit in a table with high chair seats. Nap time is after lunch and some how they get the babies to sleep for at least an hour. We definitely recommend Brite Beginnings.
