It was a rainy Sunday in Charleston, so my friend and I spent a good long time trying to brainstorm indoor activities to do. We settled on Chucktown and drove up to North Charleston to check it out. We reserved the mini golf in advance on their website, though honestly the axe throwing looked much more fun. There was a little wait to check in and then we were given our clubs and balls. It was a small course and not what you'd typically expect from indoor mini golf. The sets looked pretty old, like they could use a refresh, but we had a good time overall. Other people had the same idea as us, so it was very crowded in there. It's connected to a brewery too, so we tried some samples on our way out. read more

I was really excited to visit this place and make some memories before heading back home, but unfortunately, it ended up being a disappointing experience and a complete waste of money. I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but there were several issues. When we arrived, the guy at the front counter told us there would be a 20-minute wait for axe throwing. To pass the time, we bought the all-activities pass and asked how we'd know when it was our turn. He said he would come find us, but after waiting over 30 minutes, two groups went ahead of us--one had a reservation, which we understand, but the other group purchased their pass after we did. It also seemed like they didn't have enough staff to manage everything. The front counter employee left in the middle of our transaction to go over safety protocols with another group. About five minutes later, another employee came up and rather rudely asked us to move so another group could fill out forms. Eventually, someone else completed our transaction, but almost handed our purchase to the wrong group. There was no system in place--no wristbands or any clear way to track what you paid for or when it was your turn. The space was overcrowded, and there was little to no guidance on what to do after purchasing. In the end, we only managed to play a bit of Tetris and didn't get to enjoy any of the activities we paid for. Overall, the experience was very disappointing, and the online presentation of this place is misleading compared to what it's actually like in person. read more

Wow - we had such an AMAZING time. We were staying across the street and were looking for something fun to do and this place was attached to The Rusty Bull. Myself, my 15 year old son and my father-in-law went over and got the hour pass. We threw the axe and my son LOVED throwing the ninja stars. The Wacky Golf was SO MUCH FUN! My son loves playing mini golf and said this was the MOST fun he has had playing mini golf. We also did Floor is Lava and my son and I had a blast with that as well. We came here with a group of friends to have an activity to do while getting together and serve just going out to dinner. The brewery has drinks and offers food which was very tasty. We rented the ax, throwing Layne for an hour and were able to get several games in and everyone her enjoyable time. We also noticed that they have an area that you can rent to throw in smash plates against a wall which looks like a lot of fun and makes a whole lot of noise The area is decorated well and with lots of wooden accessories, and there is even a throne style area that everybody can get together for a group photo . read more

Absolutely Disappointing - Don't Trust the photos We drove 30 minutes out of our way to see this place, and it was a complete waste of time. The building was tiny, dusty, and the overall quality was just terrible. We walked out immediately. The photos and reviews are incredibly misleading -- don't make the same mistake I did by trusting them. Honestly, the person who made their website deserves a promotion for making it look 1000x better than it actually is. Save yourself the trip. read more

Came out for a coworker outing and all of us had a blast! For $28 per person we were able to get our axe throwing on for a hour. Prior to getting divvied up, the staff did a demonstration and safety run down. I'm glad they shared pointers and technique suggestions because without it my axe throwing capabilities wouldn't have been able to score as much! It's part of Rusty Bull so we were able to enjoy some beers, sparkling wines, and insight on which one of us may have descended from Vikings lol they also serve food but didn't try any but from seeing the photos on Yelp it looks pretty tasty what they serve up! We had such a blast coming here. Check-in is easy, just sign a waiver and decide the length of time you'll be throwing. They even give you helpful tips and safety instructions to help you out. It's also convenient that they're connected to Rusty Bull Brewing so you can enjoy craft beer and delicious eats while chucking axes all night! The music selection was perfect and high-energy to go with the intensity of axe throwing. The lighting was perfect and there was good seating to eat and watch your friends clumsily try to hit a bullseye all while being waited on by the attentive staff. First of all nobody was inside when I took my daughter on her birthday so I made it fun by saying look what I did rented the whole place for you. She knew I was joking but they learned how to Throw axes. I got to sit back and watch on this visit, sister versus sister. The instructor was nice and patient he came back over and did another demonstration for my kids so they could get it right. The kitchen on the other side wasn't open yet. Unfortunately, this experience was not what I expected for the price. $108 for 4 people for 1 hour. The activities were very limited -- axe throwing had dull blades and ninja stars were "sparse because they are stolen 9ften", mini golf was only three small holes, and the rage room was just cups to toss. The space itself is very small compared to how it's marketed. I wouldn't recommend it for the cost. If you go, make sure to check it out before you buy any packages. read more

Very good experience. The people working were on it, even though it was a busy Saturday night. The staff was kind, courteous and attentive, making sure we got to try everything we wanted to try. The mini golf they have is an interesting blend, mixing traditional putt putt with innovative ideas. The fact they have throwing stars with the axe throwing was a nice addition and their floor is lava is a certified workout! 5/5 definitely worth checking out at least once. read more

I was in town with a bunch of friends for a wedding and extended stay weekend. We were looking for an alternative activity when we had a rainy night and stumbled upon ChuckTown. It's located about 15 minutes outside the Charleston city center and is an easy taxi or Uber ride away. This place was great! We had a full safety and instructional overview from the staff and easily got right into it. For most of us it was our first time so we didn't know what to expect, but it's a lot of fun! The best part around this place aside from a fun time, is that it's conveniently attached to a brewery which also serves food. Order at the brewery and have it delivered to your axe throwing area. Super convenient! Overall, would definitely recommend for a fun activity with a group if are in town and looking to do something outside of a walk around town! read more

Chucktown Axe Throwing is so much fun! My buddy had been going somewhat regularly and he invited me to join him one night. It was my first time throwing axes outside of an event setting where I just tossed a few for fun. I quickly got the hang of it and we started playing full games with rules similar to darts. They have a bunch of lanes here and it's a great atmosphere to be social with friends while having a little competition on the side. Plus they are attached to Rusty Bull brewing so you can get great beers and food too. We ended up chatting up the owner after we were the last ones there. He showed us some different trick shots, styles of throwing, and some other "objects" to throw. We had a blast trying some stuff and watching him hit some pretty crazy shots. Love love love this place! I've been here twice now and it's a ton of fun and great for small groups of friends to get together. While you may only get 60mins of lane time, it's honestly enough because after a while it can get kinda exhausting. Now if you've never done axe throwing don't worry, the staff is great and knowledgeable. They provide instructions before hand and demonstrate how to throw an axe, as well as, round and check on you too and offer feedback. My only downside is this last time our boards where pretty well shot and should have been replaced. Since the axe was just slipping right through due to it being split so many times. But otherwise a great experience and we will definitely come back again soon. read more

I had never been Axe Throwing but kept hearing about it, so when my friends invited me out to cheer me up, I was all game. The good part is it is located in a brewery which makes the experience even better. We all ordered a drink before we started, our instructor showed us how to throw, and we had a great time throwing that heavy axe. It's always a surprise to me when it hooks in. We were only supposed to have an hour at our stall but we stopped in the middle to order and eat our food (and talk, lol) and the instructor didn't mind we were way over time. Fun place tucked in a wearhouse looking building not far from tanger outlets. We were greeted immediately and quickly brought up to speed on how everything worked. Even though we did not have a reservation we were taken care of very quickly. The staff member on duty gave us a great and informative tutorial before we got going. There's also an attached brewery with lots of unique brews. The bartender there was honest in her reviews and gave great recommendations, the entire party was pleased with their choices. Tuesday night first timer! This place is in the same building at Rusty Bull. You can walk to either side. It wasn't crowded at all, people were steadily coming in and out even after 10pm. The guy that working there was very helpful, showed us techniques, helped me figure out the scoring system. I want to say six or eight "lanes" for axe throwing and two for leagues, and I never figured out what the digital lanes were, off to the side where digital screens???Just for safety reasons, I would recommend closed toed shoes. Just a fear of dropping stuff for me! Totally new and fun experience for me, and a huge plus that the brewery is attached! read more

He instructed us on one hand and 2 handed throws along with the safety measures to follow. Temperature was a cool 72 degree environment. Really enjoyed my first visit to ChuckTown Axe Throwing! I stopped by last Sunday for brunch, beers and axe throwing with my Dad, who was visiting from out of town. We looked up the booking situation online and it said "walk-ins welcome" - so we took our chances. I'm glad we did! Because they were almost empty! We had our pick of a lane and plenty of room to stretch out. PLUS! We were allowed to book a 30min session instead of the full hour time slot advertised online etc. Our host/"coach" was Marcus and he was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating (offering the 30min session up front, without us having to ask). The sheer convenience of being attached to Rusty Bull Brewing is the biggest perk in my opinion, as it's about the same price as other establishments in town. Really love Rusty Bull, and being able to grab a beer and snack and walk a few feet next door (through a connected set of doors) and continue Axe Throwing. I'll definitely be back, and I'll bring a group this time! read more

This is a brand new business in Charleston right next to Rusty Bull Beer and it's amazing! I just came on opening weekend to try out 'axe throwing' for the first time and I loved it! The instructors were great, very personable and knowledgeable. It's a good price and a great activity to do with a group of friends. The instructors are more than happy to spend more time with you if you need extra help. You can walk right between the brewery and the ace throwing and the bar tenders will even serve you beer will you're axing ! Awesome activity to do with friends, family, or even co workers.
