If you've never kickboxed before. The movements feel a bit awkward at first, but once your body gets used to it (after the first 10-15 minutes), the movements feel more natural and powerful. The staff is extremely friendly and supportive. They are available and very willing to answer any questions you have and provide guidance on your form. Prior to starting here, I had never kicked or punched a bag nor anyone. I'm so glad I tried it! If you're interested in trying the class, they have a great introductory package. For $20, you get 3 kickboxing classes and kickboxing gloves. After that, they offer a unlimited month class package or a 10 or 30 pack of classes.

I originally went in to inquire about the Fitness Kickboxing program and was able to spend some time speaking with Sensei George Nae. After talking for a while about my goals and reasons for looking into the program, he suggested that the Martial Arts program might suit me better. I gave it a try and have not looked back since. The facility is amazing, the programs (Fitness, Martial Arts and Martial Arts for kids) are all well rounded and enjoyable but my favorite part is the sense of community here. The people are friendly, supportive and amazing. It makes it easier to stick to a goal for fitness or MA specifically when you have similar minded people who are working for the same things in your corner cheering you on. I would definitely recommend HMA for Martial Arts, Fitness, or kids programs.

UPDATED Review--…read more After a year away from Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I decided to give the revised format for initiating new students a try. And I have to say it made a huge difference in my experience. Last year I tried Indy BJJ and wound up with a bruised rib and feeling pretty lousy for a couple weeks while that healed. Prof. Eldred reached out to me earlier this year to let me know that they'd changed how they introduce new students to the system and invited me back when I was ready. In the interim, I trained heavily at Title Boxing in Glendale. Getting into much better shape there was probably a good start for this. The new system for initiating first-time students helps a lot, too. And this system brought back the missing stars from my previous review. The new system starts first with private instruction with Prof Eldred before joining a group class. That way when you get tossed into the group class, you're not totally at a loss as to what's being discussed. It doesn't mean the first class won't be confusing, it just means that you won't be going in totally blind. It really helped me to have more confidence. Grappling is one of my least favorite things. If, God forbid, I were ever in a real fight, I'd much prefer to rely on my boxing background. That said, BJJ is a proven defense system employed everywhere from police to military to combat sports. And it's a great work out that tests some very different muscles from boxing. So I feel like it's worth trying to learn. But it's intimidating as all get out! Those private primer classes directly from Prof. Eldred really took the sting off in jumping into group classes. If you're looking for a BJJ school that focuses on self-defense and has a rock-solid lineage back to the Gracies, this would be the right fit for you. I'll probably never be a good grappler, or even really enjoy it. But I've got some faith that under this school's tutelage, I'll at least be sufficient enough to have an idea of what I'm doing if I were ever in a grappling situation.

Stopped in after my friend John has been receiving instruction for almost a year. I love that it's…read morevery focused on instruction and not theatrics or easy belt promotions. I signed up and I've been to three classes and while my technique isn't perfect I've learned almost a dozen movements and have a basic understanding of the transitions. Whether you've done martial arts or haven't this is the perfect dojo and instructor to get started or start again. If the junior instructors are any indication of the teaching then you'll see why I signed up for three months in advance. Hope to see you in class soon.

I don't write many Yelp reviews, but Mark Morgan & his team at F3 have earned every word of this…read moreone. I've worked with Mark Morgan for several years now, and he is, without question, the best trainer I've ever worked with. His knowledge of fitness, strength training, mobility, and overall health is incredible, but what really sets him apart is after all these years, he continues to challenge me, and somehow keeps me engaged even on the days I'm not feeling it. As a former college athlete, I've become noticeably stronger, my overall fitness has improved, and I can do things today that I couldn't do when I started. When I've had physical concerns (including a fun year with frozen shoulder) I relied so heavily on the expertise and experience of Dr. Jon Francis - who is absolutely incredible... and also a phenomenal trainer himself! But the biggest transformation hasn't been physical. The greatest gift F3 has given me has been my mental health. Life is busy, stressful, and demanding, and that hour has become something I genuinely need. No matter how I walk through the door--stressed, exhausted, overwhelmed, or distracted--I always leave feeling happier, more energized, and in a better headspace than when I arrived. The entire team at F3 is so welcoming & encouraging. I've made genuine friends in some of the trainers and others who work out there. I've seen great athletes improve, and I've seen people regain their lives there. It is a space for everyone, completely free of judgment. Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or you've been training for years, Mark meets you where you are and pushes you to become the best version of yourself. If you're looking for a gym that genuinely cares about you as a whole person, I cannot recommend F3 and Mark Morgan highly enough.
