It was our first-time trying it because the original restaurant we wanted to go to on Somerset was closed, but we were definitely not let down. They open at 11:30 on the weekend and we were a bit early but the staff was super friendly and accommodating- letting us sit down, browse the menu and even place our order before they "officially" opened. Out of all the dine-in korean restaurants we've tried so far in Ottawa (which I know is quite limited and most aren't authentic- but that's not to say they aren't good): Alirang, Maht, Daldongnae, etc. This is definitely top tier AND we will be coming back. As a small business, they are generous with their refillable complimentary side dishes (which is so yum), the flavour HITS, and the service is so good and welcoming. They kept checking in with us, turned down the volume to the TV that we were sitting under, and kept refilling our tea. inside the restaurant is also quite spacious and has comfortable seating arrangements. But we were sitting next to the AC which can be quite breezy!

We ordered the Army Pot which was spicier than expected, but still enjoyable. Side dishes were okay, and the kimchi pancake was a bit salty for my taste. A nice touch was being served both water and tea pitchers right away. Descent spot for Korean food in Ottawa.

Ordered an Asahi Super Dry and an order of Beoseot Bulgogi. The beer was super cold, and the Bulgogi came sizzling hot (with a cup of rice and three side bowls) side bowls were toasted sesame flavoured bean sprouts, sweet sauce on turnip, and kimchi). The Bulgogi was not as flavourful as I've had at other establishments. But otherwise it enjoyed. Servers are not very personable. No greeting, just ask how many, seat me in a booth with menu and a slip of paper to write my choice on. 20 minutes later had to wave at them to comeback to take the slip. Btw, at the Merrivale location don't take the first booth, the door is inches behind your bench and everytime the door opens you are blasted with cold air. One other interesting thing to note. My bill didn't seem to be correct. I noticed it was a little higher than I expected, but I tipped 20% and left. I was only given the transaction record. The bulgogi on their menu is $15.95 (as per website), I am pretty sure the beer was $7.95. That totals $23.90. But my bill was $34.92 before tip. $41.90 after tip. So, something happened. But I guess it's my fault for not bringing it up while there.

The restaurant is clean and tidy, which made the experience even more pleasant. Service was attentive, though with only a few tables it's hard to fully judge. Still, everything we needed was taken care of. The food was fresh, portions were generous, and prices felt fair. I especially appreciated that their pancake wasn't overly oily like you often find elsewhere. Dishes leaned on the milder side which made it easy to enjoy everything. The kimchi was a little salty, but the pickled radish was a nice balance. Big plus: they serve Asahi draft, which you don't see everywhere. One small miss was the sundubu being accidentally left off our order, but no big deal, just an excuse to come back and try it next time along with the Kalbi. Seating was comfortable, and I loved the individual wireless table lamps at each table which added a nice touch. Overall, a great first experience and I would definitely return to explore more of the menu.

We visited this place during lunch as a group of four. The server did not provide the lunch special menu initially, so we had to ask for it. She also rarely checked on our table and did not keep our water refilled, so the service was not exceptional. After we split the bill, the server confronted us about tipping and repeatedly asked why two people did not tip. One person ended up tipping due to the pressure, while the other did not. The server then said, "If you don't tip, I can't serve you next time." even after three of four people at our table tipped. When the person asked if that meant they couldn't come back to the restaurant, she said yes. The suggested tip started at 18% for lunch. If refusing service or banning customers for not tipping is restaurant policy, it should be clearly stated before customers order. The food itself was bland and lacked authentic Korean flavors. Overall, the experience was extremely uncomfortable and disappointing.

I've been meaning to check out Raon Kitchen for several years now, but it's in an industrial wasteland and a part of town that I'm not too often in. As luck would have it, I was about 3km away today running errands and so I decided to pop by. It was a bit after 1pm (on a Wednesday) so the lunch rush was over. I parked in one of the 2 parking spots out front that are reserved for Raon Kitchen customers (there's a big parking lot, with lots of businesses, but most spots seem to be reserved for certain businesses only. All unmarked spots were taken. The parking lot was pretty full). I went in and was immediately greeted. I ordered the Beef Bibimbap ($9.73) and paid. I had enough time to sit down and undo my coat and my food was pretty much ready! The beef bibimbap consisted of purple rice, cabbage, carrots, spinach, julienned omelet, wood ear mushrooms, and bulgogi beef (it usually comes with kimchi, but I asked them to omit it). The food itself was delicious. I love wood ear mushrooms! I liked how the different flavours came together. The beef was tender and lean. I added a bit of hot sauce which gave it a little spicy kick. The only thing is that the portion was tiny. With taxes, I paid $10.99 (and that was just the bibimbap, no drink or anything else), and for an $11 lunch, I expected to not still be hungry afterwards. I'm 5'0" and 102 lbs. I was still really hungry afterwards! :( The place is really small, industrial-looking, and more suited for takeout. I believe that they are the central kitchen for their other locations (a food cart on Bank St. and a restaurant on Laurier Ave. West). There are 2 tables, 1 that seats 2 and the other that seats 4, then there are 2 seats facing out the window (bar seating), which is where I sat, that's it for seating. Staff were friendly and service was really quick. This place would be great for a quick lunch if you work in the area and either have a really small appetite or don't mind shelling out $22 for lunch and get 2 orders :)

I got the Beef Bulgogi Dinner ($22) and the Dakgalbi Dinner ($22). The Beef Bulgogi Dinner came with beef bulgogi, salad, Kimchi, pickled radishes, rice and a canned drink (I got a grapefruit Bubly). The Dakgalbi Dinner came with rice, a salad and a canned drink (I got a strawberry Bubly). I asked for no sesame seeds in the food and this request was gladly accommodated. The Beef Bulgogi was tasty. The meat was lean and not gristley like at some places. There was a tad too much onions in this dish for my liking, but it was still very good and and huge hit with my husband. The Dakgalbi was a bit spicy, nothing crazy though, not even lip tingles, lol, just a bit of a kick. The chicken was dark meat, but not too fatty. It had cabbage, sweet potatoes and rice cakes shaped like tubes. It was delicious. I loved the soft and chewy rice cakes. The salads were mostly shredded cabbage with pickled radishes. The salad dressing, served on the side by default, was a tangy citrus dressing. I really enjoyed it and loved that it came on the side without me having to request it that way. The cabbage was crunchy and fresh. The rice was purple rice and tasted good. The kimchi was mild, crunchy and not too pungent. I liked it. The pickled radishes were good too, not too sour. Service was courteous and friendly. They make the food to order. I'm really hoping they add Japchae to the menu and they are able to make it without sesame seeds, since at most restaurants it's premade and covered in sesame seeds and I can never have it, lol. In's Kitchen is across from the University of Ottawa Henderson Residences and very close to the campus. I'm sure it's popular with the students. The inside of the restaurant nice and it's more spacious than you would expect from looking at it from the outside. There's some outdoor seating as well. Street parking only.
