Despite…read morea lot of (relatively) new restaurants in the area, this diner offers a unique experience that will definitely take you back to the 50's. I find their menu full of comfort food that's surely a hit to students and families as well. I personally recommend their White Cow milkshake with toppings (they have a wide range: from chocolate bars like Milky Way, Twix, KitKat to the classic brownie, cheesecake, Oreo cookies, etc.) Their restaurant has a great interior design with mementos from the past (Elvis with a guitar, diner booths, old comic books) that is a plus for me. They also have a flat screen TV that can serve as entertainment while having a scrumptious meal. The parking area may be limited, but I would definitely go back there to try out their non-dessert options, especially when I saw they serve huge fries with their burgers. :)

(If we count unli-rice places, Mang Inasal wins hands down) Jugo Bar made me full. REALLY FULL. Me and some friends went to Katipunan for org-related stuff, and afterwards we decided to get some dinner there. We were all really hungry. Normally, I don't associate being full with cool-looking retro-diners like these with their very well designed interiors and funky music and chill atmosphere. I normally assign the term "good but not worth it" to these kinds of places. As far as retro-diners go though, Jugo Bar is one of the best I've seen. The place has all sorts of cool little features, from their PS3 (which you can play on for free BTW, and we used for waaaaay too long to play 2K), extremely fast free wi-fi, and great selection of cool coffee table books and board games to start the barkada fun. Back to the food. The food made me so full. Considering that I only spent 160 pesos (I think he whole bill was 500-ish), I got a huge-ass three-way iced tea pitcher (that me and my two friends couldn't even finish), a very tasty chicken rice meal, and a huge plate of fries we split three ways. And we couldn't finish everything, because it all came in these huge portions. I had no idea how one could finish any of this. It was impossible. And then you realize that only cost you 150 pesos and you're pretty amazed at that point. And the food tasted pretty goddamn great too - it was on par with more expensive diner-themed restaurants with similar dishes. Jugo Bar is an absolutely amazing little find, that I wholeheartedly recommend to all y'all Katip dwellers. (P.S. BRING THIS PLACE TO TAFT GUYS I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER.)

You've got pre and post places, not to mention the durings (I'm pretty sure that's not actually a word, much less a coherent sentence, but whatever). One of the best pre-night life places I've been to is Snackaroo. Smoky air, greasy floor, sticky tables and not enough chairs for the crowd of hungry patrons, Snackaroo is yet another place that says "Manila". You get the Filipino idea of what a steak should be: almost paper-thin, REALLY well done, and supposed to be doused in gravy. I love it. I'd like to think I'm an insufferable snob, and even then, I love it. If you're looking for a proper steak in Manila, there are other places, where the steak a-la pobre is ironically priced so that you WILL be pobre when you order it. If, however, you're looking for a proper Manila steak, then look no further.

I just want to say that it is decent, even good, but far from the steak diners are clamoring it to be. I'm not being a snob. I happily eat anything. It's just that I take exception in seeing them plastered on every top 10 steak list online. Now that we've got that out of the way, if you want a lot of beef swimming in gravy, then Snackaroo is just what the doctor ordered. It is and always will be an enjoyable meal at an affordable price. If you feel that steak should be enjoyed by itself, seasoned just right, and without an ounce of gravy, I feel that you'd need to eat somewhere else.

They are famous their Tapsilog (beef TAPa, SInangag or fried rice, and itLOG or egg cooked sunny side up). I studied in ADMU; going to Rodic's was a treat for me. I remember my friends and I would go there during our lunch breaks just to eat tapsilog! They've actually been around since 1949 and, to my pleasant surprise, have opened a branch in UP Town Center! Honestly, this is Filipino comfort food. Nothing says "home" like eating a good breakfast meal at any time of the day! Though the ambience looks more modern in this branch, you still get that carinderia style service. You line up at the counter to order food and see the available "ulam" on display. The favorite silogs are posted on a board. But, ask what's available just in case (though the tapsilog will ALWAYS be available). Then, you're given a number and the food is delivered to your table. Carlo and I ordered the usual tapsilog and sisig. From what I remember, the food here is a bit pricier. As far as we can remember, the tapsilog costs Php85. Here it cost us Php95. Anyway, the quality of the food is the same! The taste of Rodic's tapsilog was satisfying and brought back memories of our college days (and the crazy stuff we did!). Rodic's is definitely a must try for people who want very good Pinoy breakfast food. I know there are way cheaper options. But, for the quality, serving, and overall taste, you should go here. Also, having a branch in UP Town makes the trek to Katipunan easier! Just be sure to pick a time to come that won't coincide with the lunch or dinner crowd. :)

The Waffle Florentine (265 PHP) 3 pieces of fried chicken that's crispy and just enough breading for some heft. Spinach, Bacon and poached egg atop a stack of 2 quarter pieces of waffles, drizzled with a subtly mix of their Hollandaise sauce. It wasn't the most savoury breakfast we'd eaten, but it certainly offers much more value than a local breakfast chain. Taste it yourself you might like the calmness of this dish. The Breakfast Bowl Not something we'd recommend, but if you just need a basic breakfast then go ahead. It's not bad, just nothing special we'd order again. Just too ordinary. The Cheesecake Milkshake (136 PHP) It won us over with its stunning presentation and affordable price. It's a light milkshakes that's great for the summer and instagram. We visited this place because me and my friends wanted to try a new place to eat at. At first, I thought this place was pricey until I saw their serving size - most of the items on their menu was good for sharing. I was able to try their Beer-Battered Chicken and Waffles (Php 256.00) and it was definitely worth it. The chicken strips were moist and soft, while the waffles and its syrup were good enough- although the 2 "bacon strips" they put along with the dish were not enough. Their Chicken Caesar Salad did not disappoint as well because of its serving size, it's definitely good for sharing and they did not skimp on the chicken strips. The Poutine (Php 156.00) was disappointing because its taste and serving size isn't what we expected. It was too small - it looked like it was rushed and the fries doesn't have it's usual crisp - the "cheese curds" part of the Poutine wasn't melted at all and their gravy doesn't do much. Another item that disappointed me was their Cheesecake Milkshake (Php 136.00) because I was able to try their other milkshakes and there was no difference - only its presentation - and I was not able to taste even a hint of cheesecake - only by its presentation was I able to figure out it was a cheesecake milkshake. Overall the experience at Diner on 16th was just okay. It's a place that people should visit and get to try when they are within the area. In the afternoon, it's a good place to just hang out and chill by yourself or your friends (they have a beerpong table!). There are power outlets on each table (at the booths) however, they don't have WiFi.

All in all, the place remains simple and unpretentious. The same is true for the food. The serving size is generous enough and the taste, while not fancy, is pleasing. As for pricing, one can call it affordable. I've tried their sizzling bulalo and shrimp aglio olio on separate occasions. Both passed my standards. However, their katsu, although decent, was more deep fried to compete with katsus offered in other restaurants or fast foods. But, in general, you get a good deal at Eat! The food they serve is similar to lutong bahay. You can make yourself very comfortable. You can feel at home in its quiet atmosphere.

I usually get the classic burger and it just never fails to satisfy my tastebuds. Their bread changed this year but I think it's for the better. It just adds texture. They have that distinctive taste like when you eat it, you'll know it's from BBB. Tried their blue cheese, it was also good. I just really like their burger, I dnt know why. Between them and Zark's, I'd choose this one. Many love Zark's but I just think it is more unhealthy than BBB. I love how attentive and full of initiative their service is. Also the servers are very courteous and they all look so friendly. One time, I asked not to put onions on my burger and they assured me there's no onion itself but also informed me that their was some of it in the mayo which was fine with me. Love their service!
