Went to Chuy's in North Hills a couple of weeks ago and the first strange thing I noticed is it was half empty on a Friday night. Thought nothing of it until it took over 30 minutes to get our food. My wife's entree was cold and we realized they had messed up one of our orders and let the other food sit while they fixed the order. The manager ended up comping her dinner but overall all waste of a dinner night out. I was hesitant to eat here based on other reviews. We went for lunch this past Saturday, arriving at noon. Once I got the attention of the SIX servers standing around the 'front desk' I was immediately seated and the service was good. The food was really good-I had the fajita combo and my friend also enjoyed her dish. I would go back for sure and plan to if for no other reason than to try their extensive margarita list :) Bottle beers are predictable. The chips warm and salsa with just the right amount of kick for me (I'm a light weight when it comes to hot/spicy). The portion was huge and I got 3 meals out of it, with some left over still. Food was average tex-mex. They have a lot of sauces but none of them seemed that good to me. We got the fajitas which was more than enough food and they make fresh tortillas right there in the kitchen and you get as many as you can eat. Best thing by far was the tres leches cake. Fun atmosphere and fantastic food! I had the Baja tacos and my husband had the soft tacos with sirloin. The tortillas are fresh, soft, and made in house. The food must have been brought out as soon as it was ready because it was still HOT. We actually had to let it cool before eating! The chips, salsa, and creamy jalapeño dip were equally fabulous. The location and the service could be better, but the food is pretty great. Alcohol is over priced for how much you're given, but they have a pretty good variety of mixed drinks and cocktails. Somewhat surprised that there is not a overly large sized margarita you can order, considering this place is basically another On the Border. Food is A+, this includes the chips and salsa you're given. Its a bit comical to get served chip refills in a giant plastic chip scoop, but it works with how busy this place is. Food is reasonably priced and the portions are filling. Service is pretty bad. The front of house staff seemed very inexperienced, but friendly. The waitress looked like she took a break twice an hour to huff paint behind the restaurant, and didn't bother to ask if we wanted dessert or if we were ready to order food when she came by to see what we wanted to drink. Saving grace for the restaurant is that the manager (Owner?) seemed very interested in how everyone was doing. He took aside customers that seemed to not be enjoying themselves and had a conversation with them, and made the rounds to all the tables saying hello and joking with the patrons. This place is a bit out of the way for me, so I can't say I'd be going back unless I had something else planned in the area. I'm dairy and gluten free but my family isn't, and they all love Chuy's food and atmosphere. We went for the first time since my restricted diet. I asked for an allergen menu, and the waiter responded by telling me he'd be right back. Instead the restaurant manager visited our table. I explained that I would be satisfied with some nice rice and beans. Her response by telling me of all the dishes the chef could make for me instead. This included my own guac and soft corn tortilla appetizer. She even explained the chef could disinfect the prep surfaces to avoid any possible cross-contamination. I can't lie, I enjoy being treated like royalty. I settled on the chicken fajitas. We all had our typically wonderful dinner with stellar service with Chuy's funky. I actually LOVE this restaurant. Even though they are probably one of the only Mexican restaurants in the area, it's the best. Chuys, like most other restaurants in the area, is usually very busy and kind of pricey. If you can make a reservation for dinner one night, I highly recommend coming here. read more

Me and my friend decided to try Chuys for the first time Monday being that it was national margarita day. The valet was a little ride suggesting that we park our own car when we clearly pulled up to the valet for a reason. When we entered the restaurant it was all up from there. The hostess was very welcoming and our waiter Dan was very nice. Dan was on his toes the whole evening and we had a busy section and he still managed to give us undivided attention and our glasses were never empty our chips were refilled and he even brought us a sample of a certain sauce to try. My friend had the Elvis which she highly recommends any one to try. I had the chicken enchiladas they were yummy they had a cilantro and sour cream sauce. Very good atmosphere will be back read more

Been quite a few times since this location has opened, and honestly feel like it has been on a steady decline. While I've never experienced anything to complain about in regards to their food, the waitstaff and management has left a lot to be desired. Stopped in last evening around 7:30 for dinner, just my girlfriend and I. We were told there would be at least a 10 minute wait. I could see booths open in the bar area, so I told the hostess that we'd sit in the bar, but was told that we could only sit at the bar, not at a booth, rather snappy. We decided to wait. We were seated at a table between the kitchen, the drink area, and the tortilla area, quite possibly the busiest area to be seated in the whole restaurant, you know the table that shouldn't actually be there. It looked as if the rest of the customers were also seated in this small dining area. There were booths and tables open in the adjacent dining room, and the one in the rear had been completely closed off. Not quite sure why we waited for 10 minutes to be seated at a table like that. Food was pretty good, waiter was adequate, but the manager trying to micromanage her staff in front of us the whole dinner wasn't something you want to see while you're eating, not to mention her drinking from a cup without a lid or straw in the kitchen.. which bring me to my next point. Halfway through my meal, I needed a refill on my tea, but was quickly turned off as I watched a waitress take a Deer Park water bottle and place it completely around the spigot of the tea dispenser in the beverage area. The spigot was totally inside the top of her bottle, and it very much appeared that she stopped at the moment she saw me look at her doing this and walked away. Not but a moment or two later our waiter filled a tea pitcher from the same dispenser and filled my glass with it. No thanks!! Honestly the best part of this visit was the one friendly manager who greeted us with a smile and told us thank you just before we walked out of the door. She came off totally genuine, unlike the other one who micromanaged her staff and acted like we, nor the rest of the customers existed. Won't be back here anytime soon. This restaurant has very bad service. We had asked to sit outside and they told us people had reserved the tables outside and the wait would be 45 minutes. When we go to our booth we ordered our food and waited about an hour for the food to arrive. Anytime we would ask an employee a question they would tell us they were unsure and that they would check for us, but they never informed us. When our food arrived we didn't even get the tortillas because they were not ready therefore we waited another 10 minutes. After we finished eating we took a look outside and there were empty seats that nobody had sat in the whole time we were at the restaurant. Overall i'm really disappointed. Overall, I give Chuy's 4 stars because of the total package - food, service, atmosphere and location. The salsa and queso are excellent. I also enjoy the roasted chicken burrito, although it's hit or miss on how much chicken is inside. I've had it when it was pretty spare, and then last weekend when it was packed. The tortilla soup is delicious - you can really tell it's "homemade". One bonus is that it's kid friendly without being a "kid" place. I love that they give children a push-up after their meal. We LOVE Chuy's....As west coasters this is as good as tex mex as you can get out here. Their food has always been spot on and never once have we encountered bad meals or service. The staff does above and beyond with every single visit we have had. They make our kids feel important when they get to order their own meals and they love to be able to watch the tortillas being made. Tried Chuy's for the first time on a Saturday at 3pm. Despite the mid afternoon visit, it was still full - but luckily we didn't need to wait for a table b/c I was starving! The restaurant is bright and open and reminds me of dining at the beach - cheesy decorations in a relaxed atmosphere. Our server Karissa was so great - friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. She lets us try a number of different sauces. When we tried the boom boom sauce, we knew the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas were for us. They have freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken & cheese with Boom-Boom sauce, made with cheese, roasted New Mexican green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice. So tasty! The chips and fresh pico we were served first were bursting with flavor and I loved how thin and crispy the chips were. I want to come back for happy hour. Tip - you can drive down to the intersection where Chuy's is located, and take a left. There's a parking garage there. I had parked in the Harris Teeter lot, but the lot behind Chuy's is much closer. read more

Well, we visited for the first time. The seeming disorganization, and disjointedness of the place carries throughout. That's about the only consistency there is. While our waitress Michelle K, was exuberant and cheerful, the 'manager' ( I think) was sullen, no one other than our server made any effort towards us. Are there uniforms? Because everyone was dressed differently. The hostess and her assistant seemed distracted. The fresh chips are light and delicious, the fresh salsa was also tasty. The food arrived and while I liked the Charro beans and lime chili rice that came with my Baja fish tacos, (what were those bread crumbs on the fish? Panko? Potato chips?, couldn't tell) and the Jalapeno cream sauce was tasty, the portions were rather small, especially for a pair of $10 tacos.) The 'push' to buy the $10 frozen drinks was pretty strong, really, $10 for an ice slushy? WE stuck with water on this day. My dining companion chose soft tacos with grilled chicken. The chicken had a strong 'essence' of gas/propane or some other flavor that was highly unusual. The server did offer to fix anything that needed fixing, it was too late. On to the decor....what in the blazes? Full size plastic coconut palms? thousands of pictures of dogs, no consistency, and almost every available square inch of wall space is completely covered in gaudy, tacky, brightly colored 'stuff.' Besides the fact that the interior decor assaults the eyes, and any sensibility, there doesn't seem to be any kind of unifying theme....Is it dogs? Is it Corona labels? What IS this place? Additionally, our 12:15 pm arrival and the lack of paper towels in the men's restroom, led me to believe they really were not ready to open on this day. Where is the quality control? Where is the 'engaged' and interested manager? Sigh, I'm sad to say we won't be back, and won't be recommending this place. With ALL the offerings at North Hills Mall, one would think this place could elevate the food/service/theme in order to compete with the superb choices offered in a 5 minute radius. BTW, table 205 is one to stay away from. Oh, first set of silverware, (in a special paper bag that says, "Sanitized for You," the knife had crusties on it. If you love over salted food, dismissive wait staff, and patronizing jerk managers, being disturbed by other customers children as they roughhouse like a bunch of wild dogs, and eating in a freezer this place is for you. Tonight was my first time eating here. The waitress came and brought chips and salsa. Pretty typical fare for Mexican Restaurants in the area. I took one bite of the salsa and was immediately turned off by the amount of salt they used in it. Coupled with salted chips made this incredibly intolerable and inedible in my opinion. I asked the waitress about it and she was immediately dismissive of my complaint and ignored it. I ordered the steak burrito. I first tasted the rice thinking it would help tone down the incredible amount of sodium I had just ingested. No way!! The rice was also loaded with salt...I didn't touch it again. I dug into my burrito. The portion size of the meat was good. However, once again, LOADED WITH SALT!! I couldn't seem to get away from the salt. I took a bite of the charro beans which typically are not salted. Once again I was hit with an over indulgence of salt. I ended up eating my burrito because I was hungry and consumed 5 glasses to tea to make it tolerable, but I know I'm going to pay for it tomorrow. With a splitting headache. During dinner we were graced by 5-7 children running around like a bunch of wild Indians while the parents sat at the end of the table yacking like a bunch of chickens. After dinner I spoke with the manager and told him of my complaints. He was at best a patronizing jerk. His only response was saying well sorry you didn't like the food and that was it. I'll not go back here again. You guys need to learn flavors of food are not brought out by using salt. It takes talent to concoct dishes that are delicious with proper amounts of seasoning. Some you seem to know nothing of. You should tone it way back and let your customers decide how much salt they want to eat. And lastly, NO ONE wants to sit in an ice box and have a nice dinner. Having the temperature at 60 degrees is ridiculous. But then based on my experience here...you probably do that so people will hurry up eat and get out before they realize that they have ingested 5 pounds of salt!! read more

We've eaten at Chuys numerous times since it opened and I really want to give it a good review for the food but the service is awful. The first time we ate here the service was decent and the food was delicious. We definitely wanted to return, but every experience after that has been horrible. We tried takeout several times and only once was our order correct. Sometimes whole items were even missing from the order. The presentation of the food and quality declined somewhat but compounded with the unprofessional staff, especially at the front of the house, we gave up on Chuys. read more

I've now eaten at this place a few times to give them a fair chance before posting my review. Their chips are good and the fajitas are good. The other things were just about average or below average but overall I liked the place enough to go back, mainly just for convenience, but this last time made me reconsider. I decided to do a takeout order and I found a pretty old flier of theirs which stated a 6% charge on take out food. I've never been charged this at a place in my life and thought it was ridiculous so before deciding to get food there I called them because if they did charge that fee then I was going to go somewhere else. So I called and they said there shouldn't be a takeout charge so I figured the flyer was old but asked them to check with a manager anyways so they put me on hold while they checked. They came back on the phone and said there was no charge. I ordered a takeout order and when I went to pick it up I looked at the receipt and there was the 6% charge. I was irritated but didn't feel like arguing over it and decided I just might not return. Then one of the things I ordered was their most expensive nachos (they have 3 kinds) which are not really expensive only $10, but they were supposed to be their best. There were literally 8 chips and not even sour cream they were the saddest nachos I've ever ordered somewhere and for a Mexican restaurant that is just embarrassing. I wasn't even sure what came with them because they just describe them as "special nachos" with meat. Yeah they were special alright. I mean 8 chips, really???? Over a dollar per chip. Oh and by the way I live close by and their wait staff go outside during breaks and after their shifts and are very loud and yelling even seen them taking down alcohol shots right outside yelling late at night past 11pm when hundreds of people live just feet away from where they are being noisy.
