I came back after my last review and had a much better experience, so I'm hoping the earlier staffing issues have been resolved. We were seated without a reservation on a busy Saturday night, and the hostess was kind and really intentional about making sure we were comfortable. The food was delicious and came out quickly. My one piece of feedback is to skip the basic margaritas and choose your own tequila. Our server didn't seem very familiar with the drink menu--when I asked for a spicy margarita, I was brought "The OG," which wasn't spicy and had something in it that just didn't work for me. I switched to a margarita with Casamigos mezcal and it was amazing. Overall, a solid spot in Fenton for good food, especially if you're with a group. Bonus points for letting us linger a bit longer to wait out a rainstorm with another round.

I'm a big fan to Mexican food so I'm usually a little disappointed with Tex Mex as I'm from So CA. I set my sights on being open minded and really enjoyed this meal. We had a party of 7, with 3 kids. Lots of commotion which our server handled with grace. Very well trained staff which goes a long way toward an enjoyable experience. The chips, salsas, guacamole and fresh dip were top notch. Everyone enjoyed them and there was enough for us all. My husband and I shared chicken enchiladas suiza and shrimp tacos. The ingredients were fresh and the plates were appealing. We really enjoyed the flavors. Not Mexican but more southern mex. The sauce on the suiza was a little too much in quantity. Side orders of beans and rice were "family style" which gave us the option to eat what we enjoyed most. We had two members of our group try the fajitas with pork belly. They enjoyed it. Lots of veggies and just enough meat. The ambience is beautiful. Lots of seating options inside and out. Our tab came to $250 for a family of 7. Not inexpensive but a nice event out for Easter Sunday.

Cute spot at Fenton with indoor and outdoor seating. We started with cocktails - The Hibiscus (light and refreshing) and The Highway Man (boozier, but delicious). The table is served with chips and 2 style salsas - Smokey chipotle and milder green. I didn't love either salsa, but appreciate their complimentary. For dinner, we had steak tacos ($29 - OUCH!) and chicken tacos. They were fine, but not worth the cost. We ordered a second round of drinks before our food arrived and they never made it to the table, so we opted to have them taken off the bill.

Sat outside on a nice Friday afternoon and enjoyed the patio with the house margarita. We split the large fajitas and still had some leftover. Chips and salsa were also really good. The service was great and attentive as well. Would definitely come back.

the food here was tasty! I was nervous about bringing my family here because they don't usually eat this type of food but they loved it! this place has been on my list for a while so I am glad I finally got to check it out! I am so thankful to the team here for allowing us to move our reservation time up to celebrate my brothers graduation

Our family and friends always enjoy this restaurant. It's conveniently located close to the Fenton theater and shops. The food is tasty and the service is friendly. The atmosphere is casual and lively. You can make reservations easily on Open Table.

Visited with my family of 5. It was a very busy night at Fenton, but they were able to immediately seat us, which was nice. Our waiter was great, which made the experience much better. The prices are high, but to be expected for the location. The chips and dip were awesome! The food was average and a bit disappointing for the price, but not bad. The flavors were good. Our tab came to $190 after tax and tip for the 5 of us. We'd return, but not often. Much prefer Mi Cancun.

Great spot located in Fenton. I've been a few times. Love their salsa - very fresh. I got the Taco Dinner with all three of the meat/veg options to try. Pretty large tacos. Came with rice and refried beans. Chicken tinga and ground beef tacos were very good. Fried avocado was just okay. I would probably get it not fried next time. Refried beans were good but rice was a little crunchy. $19 for the dinner, which feels steep but you do get a decent amount of food. The service was quick. Great spot for a Sunday lunch or dinner.

Absolutely loved this place. We went there for dinner and had made reservations. The place is very cute but it can get pretty loud once it's gets super busy. Food- amazing!! Their chips are very lite but delicious. They have number of options when it comes to salsa. My fav was the one with avocado. I ordered quesadillas. It's in Fenton. Plenty of parking spots ( free).

I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.

I was really one mayonnaise filled torta away from missing out on my favorite Mexican restaurant of Cary. The food is some of the freshest and most authentic in the area, and is consistently spot on. Forget heavy burritos or overly sauced enchiladas, this place is the real deal. When you come to Esmeralda Grill, you should really focus on the meat heavy dishes, whether it be via land or sea. There are so many different options to choose from, from both categories. When thinking seafood, expect the full fish. If you find yourself with the fresh grilled tilapia, you will receive a delicious whole fish that tastes as if it was caught that morning. It is such a fantastic option. I also appreciate the camarones a la diabla, or Diablo shrimp. The shrimp are plump and juicy, the spice of the dish is excites your taste buds and is a great dish. My favorite entrees are the land meat dishes though. El Trio Perfecto is my go-to order, it is grilled steak, chicken and pork all on one plate with rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The Mexican spice rub on the meats is absolutely mouth watering, the flavors are so bold and tasty. The meats are all cooked to perfection and the portions are gigantic. You can make different tacos with the various meats, it is seriously one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this! Additionally, Esmeralda Grill has so many other wonderful dishes for different flavor profiles. My grandparents are pretty particular about empanadas, but simply cannot get enough of Esmeralda's version. They also make some killer tacos, and some very affordable ones if you were to come on Tuesday! The moral of the story? Don't base your opinion of a restaurant after a single visit. You don't come across a fantastic hole in the wall every day, Esmeralda Grill is one that every Mexican food lover should know!

This place is frequented by construction and other blue color workers, so you know it's gotta be bussin for the value. I ordered a variety of different tacos; pollo, asada, Al pastor, lingua and loroco pupusa. The chicken is very bland, the safe option for people with low spice tolerance. The other meats have decent flavor but tend to be on the dry and chewy side. The pupusas are lovely and I always enjoy watching them assemble and fry on the griddle. The cortido is a nice crunch and if you want other options, they have a salsa bar to tack on more. The staff speak Spanish and will try to explain what an item is, but it's best to study before hand.
