    Cod in shrimp mayonnaise

Ciacco was recommended by our Bologna food tour guide. He also helped us make dinner reservations. I loved the simple and old school Italian interiors of the restaurant. We were greeted and seated promptly once we got inside. Our server and the restaurant host were friendly, welcoming, and efficient. We tried: PROSCIUTTO & MORTADELLA- tasty and satisfying MACKEREL APPETIZER- I loved it. The saltiness of the fish went perfectly with the sweetness of the beets. SPAGHETTI W/ SARDINES- so delicious! TAGLIATELLE w/RAGU BOLOGNESE- outstanding COD IN SHRIMP MAYONNAISE- this was served as tasting from the chef. It was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was surprisingly really good The chef personally came to our table and gave us samples of his favorite Amaro. It was the perfect way to finish our dinner. Overall, Ciacco had delicious food, great drinks selection, outstanding service, and a beautiful restaurant. I had a wonderful experience here. I'm glad I've had the chance to try Ciacco. Grazie mille!

We came across restaurant caccio by chance after a long, 18 hour travel day. We were tired, hungry, unsure of what to expect and dropped in on a whim. We were fortunate enough to land a table and much to our pleasure- Restaurant Caccio ended up being our favorite restaurant in all of Bologna. I had not come across this restaurant in my research but it is a true hidden gem! We loved this restaurant so much so- that we returned on our last night and had dinner again! We were greeted by Salvatore and cared for by he and the rest of the team on both occasions. Their customer service and table side manner is exceptional and every food and wine suggestion Salvatore made was brilliant. The food was among the best we had (which is something to say as we ate A LOT!) We can HIGHLY recommend the tortellini en brodo, the spaghetti with mussels and whatever they are offering as an evening special. On our last night we ordered the evening special as our main dish (braised beef cheek in red wine with mashed potato) and it might have been our best bite in bologna. (I will dream of that meal for the rest of my life. They should totally add that special to the permanent menu!) To say that each and every plate that touched our table was exceptional in every way is an understatement. We are happily expecting our first baby and I was initially bummed thinking I would be missing out on all of the delicious Italian wines but Salvatore offered a non alcoholic wine that was absolutely delicious (and the only non alcoholic wine we encountered on our trip!) Highly, highly, highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was great. We shared two appetizers one better then the next. We each selected a pasta and we were thrilled. The owner is delightful. A lovely quiet place

A most unassuming entry way - skeptical at first but as we were ushered downstairs, we noted a definitely different type of restaurant. We wanted to try something not of the usual, and excellent I might add, Bolognese pasta dishes. There was a varied selection of 5 difference fish dishes prepared in very "high end" finishes. They also had a fine selection of different starters including raw selections like oysters from France. I opted for the recommended fish tartare of whitefish of the region and it didn't disappoint. We also ordered the scallops (3 large) on smoked aubergine and homemade yogurt. Phenomenal. Bread basket was not the usual and consisted of breadsticks and different breads, all homemade. Before appetizers arrived, a small "on the house" taste of crispy rice and cheesy yogurt - showing off a very talented kitchen. Main courses were the "turbot" fillet fish with sweet/sour roasted bok Choi on a parsley potato cream. The other was sea bass, grilled, with a potato and artichoke pie. Both plates were beautifully presented and tasted perfect. Again, showing off a very talented kitchen staff. For dessert, we ordered cannolis filled with a super light "foam" that had hints of hazelnut - capped with delicious cocoa nibs, all sitting on a tart passion fruit compote-like sauce. The filling is referred to as "Mou" mousse - couldn't find a translation but it was divine. Gentle, semi-sweet and tart, but palette pleasing. You must try the coffees as they have an assortment of worldly coffees. I had the decaf espresso and it was over the top good. As we thought we were done, they bring us a small plate of miniature biscotti's, merengue's and sweet breads. We were more surprised at the incredibly high level of presentation, food prep and attention to detail. A place I would definitely recommend highly to anyone visiting Bologna. I assumed nothing with the rating here in Yelp. It's not a popular medium in Europe. If they continue to deliver as they did tonight, this is a 4-5 star rated restaurant in the city center.

Ciacco was a fantastic dining experience, one of many in the foodie city of Bologna. The restaurant entrance is sort off an alley, a little hard to find. Because of its location, it's quite a serene place to eat dinner. In fact, it becomes more calm and peaceful when you are led down the staircase to the basement level where they have most of their seating - I think their wine cellar is on this level as well. We were offered an amuse bouche for starters (is there a term for that in Italian?) - a delicious spoonful of fava bean mouse. Our server helped us select an affordable bottle of local wine, which was very good. For dinner, I decided to order the traditional Bolognese tsating menu, which began with a simple bowl of tortellini en brodo - you could tell with the first taste that every one of the few ingredients had been selected with care to find the highest quality available. Next came the lasagne alla bolognese. I must say, I was skeptical of a lasagna without tomato sauce (what can I say, I'm an American) - but it was scrumptious. The following course was cotoletta alla bolognese - breaded veal cutlet with ham slices and parmigiana cheese sauce - heavy and tasty and I ate every last morsel of it. The tasting menu also came with a dessert of a traditional Bolognese cake with an egg gelato - but before this came out, we were offered a complimentary plate of desserts - apple caramels, coconut drops, brownies, and meringue drops. All were excellent! Then came yet ANOTHER complimentary dessert - mint custard - which was my friend's favorite part of the entire meal. Overall a wonderful dining experience, with delicious food and wonderful service. I will be happy to come back to Ciacco the next time I'm in Bologna.

Lasagna bolognese and local beer is fantastic! Modern Bolognese restaurant.

I got a hot tea with lemon, perfect for the cold. We first got the pizza Bella arte, which has a bunch of toppings. I'm not normally a huge pizza fan, but this one was quite pleasant. The crust was thin and the edges had a nice crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. It was flavored nicely and had a good variety. My only complaint would be that toppings weren't distributed evenly. There was a huge one piece of artichoke that comprised a full bite. We also opted for more traditional Balogna dishes: the tortellini en brodo, which was not bad. Soup was seasoned ok, not too salty or too bland. The tortellini itself was simple, with some meat and cheese. Seems like a nice comfort food for those who grow up with it. The tagliatelle al ragú was seasoned well too, although the actual pasta was not as bouncy as others I've had. Not bad though. However at the end we thought we had ordered panna cotta and for some reason it never came. The waiter later seemed confused even though he previously repeated "dessert panna cotta"... so I don't know. But we decided to go without the dessert.... Unfortunately. Maybe a language issue we had.

Several other groups in there, and it's a really nice spot. Food and wait staff were all wonderful. Our group had a mix of steaks, pizza, tortellini and lamb chops, a well as a caprese-style flatbread, and a carafe of red wine. Prices, like everywhere in Bologna, were all a fraction of what you'd pay for a far worse meal in the US, making it painful to leave town.

By the time we left, the place was fully packed. I was craving some fresh seafood, as all of the rich, delicious creamy and cheesy pastas I had been eating were starting to feel too heavy for me. The seafood platter I got was perfect, and I felt the price was very fair for the generous portions of seafood - all perfectly cooked! I wouldn't recommend the side of grilled vegetables for 6 euro, bland and nothing special. My favorite was the sea bream, scallops and shrimp. My husband ordered their lasagna and enjoyed it too, but not his favorite during our time in Bologna. Service was friendly and prompt (especially for European standards compared to what we're used to in the states). Based on our experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend La Mela to enjoy for dinner as one of your meals in Bologna!

They didn't have any tables outside so we were seated inside. Service (3.5/5): No WiFi unfortunately which isn't great for an international traveler like me. Standard European service. Not terribly friendly and not terribly efficient but I would say they were a bit more attentive than the norm. They did hook us up with some complimentary limoncello shots which was a really nice touch. Ambiance (3.5/5): A little quieter since it's off the beaten path which I like. A pleasant, homey restaurant. Drinks (4.5/5): We shared a bottle of wine. And the aforementioned limoncello shots. Food (4/5): We went with their pasta for two deal where each person gets three different types of pasta that you choose from six or so options. I love getting a variety of dishes so this was a nice way to do it. Not huge portions given the price but still delicious. The dishes were served to us quickly and we got to try some pastas we had never heard of. Overall: When in Bologna, Osteria Broccaindosso makes for a fine choice.
