As a solo Asian female traveler, I was a bit hesitant walking into another restaurant after being turned away earlier -- but Cielo completely changed the tone of my day. Every staff member was kind, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. They explained the menu in English, patiently described each option, and even showed me the steak cuts in person to help me decide the right portion for one person. And the food? The sea, the food, and then the seafood! I watched the boats pull up, the dock folks put the catch on ice, and brought it all inside to the display case. I have spent 6 weeks in Italy traveling and this was by far the worst restaurant experience I've had. I had high hopes given the restaurant was right by the water but the food was just okay and the service was atrocious. The waiters were rude, arrogant, and unhelpful. They were not attentive and our table was noticeably treated differently than others as the only tourists. No other local restaurant I have visited in Italy has made me feel unwelcome. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone travelling in the area, and would even go so far as to say avoid it if possible. I don't understand the bad reviews of this place. The food was amazing and exactly what I expected of a water town. The staff was attentive and polite though the English speaking staff was minimal, however, the waiter spoke enough English to explain the food. It was our last night in Italy after an amazing nine day vacation and we decided to stay near the airport because we had a early morning flight. Cielo was located close to our hotel, in an area where it appears restaurants are aplenty, albeit sleepy for a Tuesday evening. From first glance, the decor of Cielo was hip and modern and the restaurant was buzzing with activity which we took as a positive sign. Unfortunately, from the moment we sat down, we noticed the servers were extremely inattentive despite an unusually large ratio of staff to patrons. At first, I assumed staff members were overwhelmed and remained optimistic. Our dining experience quickly went downhill from there and we consistently felt as if our presence was a bother. We struggled to identify who our primary server was and simply tried to flag down anyone who would be willing to take our order or give us the time of day. We didn't dare ask any questions regarding the menu and were quickly feeling it would be best to keep our dining experience as brief as possible. Our food arrived quickly and I did get a little irritated when my husband wanted to order a second drink, knowing this would prolong an uncomfortable dining experience. It's unfortunate our final meal was so disappointing and I'm sure there are a number of quaint and welcoming restaurants in Fiumicino. Wary travelers, I suggest looking elsewhere. The food is about 3 stars but have it a 4th star for the variety of food on the menu and the creative playing and flavor combination eg mango sauce with beef carpaccio was great. The chicken with potatoes also a hit. Fried calamari had a lovely lemon sauce paired with it. They are known for their pizza and it was delicious too. Having eaten italian food for the past 10 days, it was nice to see burgers on the menu too. The raw scallop tartare was a mouthful of flavors. Wish we had room after the meal to try the interesting desserts. The place was hip and it was nice seeing the sunset from the second floor. If you're ever in the area, try this place! read more

We had dinner there tonight. Awful experience. The service was very slow. I had to ask where was my wine after 20 minutes . My first course arrived cold( fried calamari) My granddaughter is a vegetarian. She ordered vegetable tempura which arrived cold and with no sauce. We had to ask for teriyaki sauce which they did not have and then soy sauce which they did but by the time it arrived the tempura was truly cold and inedible. My lobster was good but the tools to eat it were inadequate. Puny little pliers. Even the waiter had a hard time. I had to ask for drawn butter and by the time it arrived the lobster was also cold. Then I had to argue over the bill. I asked that the two vegetable dishes be removed from the bill because my granddaughter literally could not eat them. They finally agreed but not before some one told me she had an empty plate....total lie. There were 7 other friends who ate there that night. 3 separate tables, not all together. If I could give a 10 star I would. We stopped here late on our last night in Italy and I thought I had eaten enough amazing pizza on this trip that nothing much would impress me anymore but WOW the pizza was absolutely out of this world. My husband and I both agreed it was the best we had in two weeks and trust me, we ate a lot of pizza on this trip. The calamari was also delicious, the sauces that accompanied the dish really made it and the focaccia served before dinner was fantastic. We didn't order drinks because of an early flight tomorrow but the wine list was impressive. The atmosphere was also really fun, we loved the decor, the furniture and the whole vibe of the restaurant. We say near the chefs in the butcher/fish kitchen and loved watching them prepare the dishes and seeing the beautiful and unique presentations they created. This is definitely a must try restaurant if you are ever in the area! I would recommend it to anyone, there is enough variety on the menu to please any guest. Great seafood ! Calamari appetizer was amazing- very fresh with a lemon ginger sauce - sounds different, it was - but wonderful! Also, we had smoked risotto wit lobster and an orange sauce.
