LA CANONICA in Trastevere captures everything that makes this neighborhood one of Rome's most beloved food destinations--rustic charm, lively energy, and food that feels proudly rooted in tradition. Tucked into the winding streets of Trastevere, the restaurant has that classic, old-world appeal: warm lights, intimate tables, and the inviting hum of locals and travelers all savoring a good meal. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel like you've stepped into an authentic Roman moment. The menu champions traditional flavors with heart. Their pasta dishes stand out immediately--perfectly cooked, rich in character, and prepared with fresh, honest ingredients. Whether you go for a velvety carbonara, a bold amatriciana, or a beautifully simple cacio e pepe, each plate delivers that comforting Roman soulfulness you hope for in Trastevere. The pizzas offer the same level of satisfaction: thin, flavorful, and baked to the ideal crispness. Antipasti arrive fresh and thoughtfully seasoned, and the salads bring a bright, refreshing balance to the table. Service is welcoming, warm, and relaxed, fitting perfectly with the neighborhood's easygoing vibe. You're encouraged to enjoy your meal at your own pace while soaking in the charm of the lively streets just outside. LA CANONICA is exactly the kind of Trastevere spot you hope to stumble upon--authentic, delicious, and full of character. A wonderful choice for a cozy, flavorful Roman dining experience in one of the city's most enchanting quarters.

My family and I were not the biggest fan of La Canonica. It's in the main food area of Trastevere but I really feel like they try to fit too many people. We were so closed to the tables next to us that someone at a neighboring table got up to use the restroom and knocked all of my mom's utensils off the table. The vibe is not there at all, and the waiters don't seem to have a system. As for the food... - Tripe Alla Romana: 4/5, this was pretty good tripe. I didn't think there was anything special about the sauce though, it was just tripe and tomato sauce :) - Coda Alla Vaccinara: 2/5, this felt like the most basic oxtail dish that you can find in any culture. Our waiter really hyped it up as being stewed for hours but the meat was pretty tough. I'd recommend going somewhere else in Trastevere.

This was another random stop during our visit to Rome that urned out to be a good one! We were coming back after a day-long walk and sightseeing and were starving. We stopped here, and started eating! The service was very good and the food even better.

Sitting outside by the lights you definitely can't help but enjoy that no matter what you eat. Customer service here is absolutely amazing. The food? I ordered a standard spaghetti with meatballs. It was okay - not like a nonna I once had but not bad. I give it a three out of five particularly because I feel if I try something else I might be able to have a more reasonable gauge of the rest of their offerings. For now, the setting and customer service are hard to beat.

As tourist that didn't pre-plan a location for dinner we were grateful to find this lovely restaurant in this nice area. The food was very yummy and provided a good vibe. We really wanted to sit on the outside patio but there was a long wait. Instead we agreed to sit inside which was fine - but if you don't like to be near other tables than I would suggest against it as the tables were placed very close to one another to accommodate as many guests as possible. Super cute dinner spot. As most know, tip is not a custom in Italy. However, the server did insinuate a tip suggestion that I thought was strange ... I'm thinking it was because he knew we were American tourists. We did leave a couple extra Euros as we were unsure of the expectation.

amazing! me and my family heard good things about this place in transverse so we decided to give it a try. Our server Ermir was very attentive and friendly, he checked up on us consistently and the food was the best we've tried yet! definitely recommending this to any one who wants a good restaurant here in transverse

Trastevere was on my list of neighborhoods to visit in Rome! We were walking through the streets of the city late looking for a spot to eat dinner. Tonnarello is next door and they had a super long wait, so we opted for the restaurant next door which was La Canonica. We waited about 10 minutes and then were seated. We ordered the octopus salad, zucchini bruschetta, cacio e pepe, and limoncello spritz's. Everything was delicious!

Stopped in for dinner without a reservation on a busy night and were luckily seated quickly! Service was quick and the people were very attentive and gave suggestions. The food was pretty good for the price and the menu is large and offers a big variety. I got the cacio e Pepe and it was good but not the best. Others at the table got the carbonara, sea bass, lasagna, and seafood pasta and while they were satisfied and happy with their choices they were similarly not blown away. I'd recommend if you're looking for a place with pretty good food and less of a wait in this neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way to make a res here!

Ok, so found another hang out place. We decided to have an intimate dinner away from the October crowds in Rome. We asked our waiter for a quiet area and he escorted us to the top floor. All the folks outside missing the frescoes on the ceiling of a former church. Our waiter was so sweet, we were totally alone and enjoyed every fork of our meal! Service very good, pasta cooked perfectly......and killed a bottle of wine.

Our waiter was Rasel, and the food was delicious! Very good service, 100/10 recommend if you find yourself in Trastevere! This place is a must I can't wait to comeback to Italy.

Ambiance is nice and food is good. Yes might be a little touristy but that's ok. It's Italy!! The amatriciana was delicious! My husband is a picky eater and he loved his shrimp plate. The spaghetti and meatballs were not the best. The lasagna was good and the tiramisu was mid. All in all it was a good place to eat for an early dinner.

A recommendation that was much appreciated and definitely didn't disappoint!

Wow! What a find. The outdoor seating looked amazing but being sat upstairs was an impressive option as well. The ambiance couldn't have been better. The pasta was fabulous and very well priced. Service was prompt and attentive.

I'd say 3.5 is at best. It's popular and famous but so is McDonald's haha. Overcooked within a chaotic sprawling organization.

Two places that stood out: - Trapizzino (cone shaped bread with filling inside) I got the meatball one and was so good, the bread was also so fresh! - Truffle pasta from Savini Tartufi (a bit pricey at 22 euro) the pasta and flavour was exactly as I imagined it to be, it was worth the money! Also got a slice of pizza, artichoke, and a sandwich that were all pretty good as well! Do NOT get pasta from La Pasta Fresca. I got the carbonara that's supposedly "fresh" but I am convinced it was not. The pasta was so hard and way too salty. After a few days in Rome, I can confirm this is probably the worst pasta I have had. There are washrooms in the back of the market. Along with table service for coffee and drinks. We were a group of 6 and took a round to find a table but it was not too hard to find. All the vendors we went to accepted credit card.

Pizzas of 20 varieties at a time with more coming out every few minutes. We love them all, even the potato chip one! They also have a nice selection of pastries and cookies but we didn't try those. The Mercato Centrale is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and the train traveling experience with other great vendors there as well. It's a wonderful foodie food court including the equally splendid Trapazzino which is another place to try if you still have room after Bonci.

We dropped by before a train and highkey this location does not have the insane lines that you can find everywhere else; so woohoo~ I grabbed the eggplant whereas my husband got the chicken; the flavors in the eggplant one were great! The prices are not too bad esp for the quality and I would 100% get it again as a snack or meal - the portion is not giant so you could try two of them if you were hungry enough. This is not like the American version of Chinese food, they have to improvise on a lot of things. That being said the food is still good and edible. The waiters did not speak English only Italian so this gives you an idea of how this part of town is not touristy at all. They still manage to communicate with us on what we want to order. A couple of times i been here with my friends and someone just pointed to what someone was eating to the table next to us and the waiter knew that's what we wanted haha good times. In terms of staff they all were friendly even tho we did not understand 90% of what they said. The restaurant was clean and they did not let those annoying street vendors in, you know the ones selling light up roses or some robot toy etc. There are a lot of restaurants in the touristy areas that WILL let those guys in but many do not and this is one of them. So if you want to eat your meal in peace this would be one of them. For sure try it and you will experience this American favorite in a whole new light.

If you do speak in English they do have some waiters that are able to communicate some words to try and help you out. I would recommend the pan fried dumplings, the beef and vegetables and some other Chinese hot plates. Sitting outside in one of the most famous squares in Rome is a dream of many. The food is actually really good. We had calamari, focaccia with ricotta, olives and tomatoes, and caprese salad. Everything was tasty! Our entire group of four veered away from Roman classics for dinner and opted for the bolognese. I'm perfectly aware that you "shouldn't order" other regional dishes but we were in the mood and quite frankly it was delicious! A couple folks in our group had limoncello spritzes and said they really loved them here (more than another restaurant we tried later in the week). I had a hugo spritz and honestly it was my least favorite. It was way too heavy on the lime and I couldn't even taste the elderflower. Aside from my subpar cocktail, the rest of the meal was very satisfying. If you want to enjoy a VERY GOOD meal sitting outside in Piazza Navona, this is the spot to go to.
