Magnificently old, in fact the oldest in Barcelona (according to our tour guide), cemetery in Barcelona. We had taken the Barcelona Bus Touristic, a hop on hop off bus around the city to get acquainted with the lay of the land. This was one of the drop off spots on the green line.
My morbid curiosity got the best of me.
It is huge, primarily outdoor mausoleum, 7 levels high, spanning courtyard after courtyard, aisle after aisle, acre after acre. The sight is breathtaking. But the best were the sections for the very wealthy and influential. The tombs, statuary, are very worth seeing, and there is no fee.
Unfortunately I failed to notice until too late the signage explaining that there is an app you can download to your phone which will walk you through the grounds.
There are public restrooms available near the entry.
This is a great opportunity to get away from the swarms of tourists, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and be amazed at another type of beautiful art. read more
