When we moved into this house and continued our relationship with Cincinnati Bell, we had a terrible experience with the typical nightmare stories about rude/loud call centers, et cetera In short, the Internet service didn't work and it took 2 weeks to get a service visit. The technician shows up and spends 2.5 hours trying to prove the problem was in my house wiring before he made a 10 minutes fix outside. So that was a 1 star experience but the Internet worked for 3 years,which is all I really ask for. Then it starts flaking out 3 months ago and I could now recount a series of the typical comedy of errors with call center redirections, unkept promises of call backs, et cetera. The 2 most important stories of the last 3 months are these: 1. My Internet is down again 2. The last time they sent a technician to my house (last month), he gave my wife the creeps. Recently I decided to go with Cincinnati Bell's new cable offering called Fioptics. I was lured away from Time Warner Cable because of the marketing promise that it was 100% fiber optic. The website showed their internet speeds almost 7 times faster that TWC while the bundled cost of Digital TV and Internet was half the cost. First, my observation is that the internet is about half as fast. Perhaps it is fiber somewhere in my neighborhood, but I only have copper coming in to my home. The Digital Cable is comparable to Time Warner, but the recording interface doesn't make sense to me. At first I chalked it up to just being used to TWC, but after a month I still find it difficult to figure out how to record a series. In addition the search feature is nearly useless. The good points are that picture quality may have a slight edge over TWC and there is no cable box lag. I still give a slight edge to TWC for overall TV experience. I don't get the feeling that the technology is at the same level of quality as TWC. The reasons I rated them so low is... first, they gave me a date for the installed. TWC was turned off the day before. When they didn't come at the scheduled time (on a day which I took off from work) I called them. They said the order was canceled. When I told them I didn't cancel it, they reinstated the order but put me in the back of the line and said they would be out in two days. When I threatened to go back to TWC, they came out that night (which I did appreciate). A few days later I tried HBO and Starz which were part of the promotion to which I originally agreed. It said I did not have access to those channels. When I called and waited on hold for over on hour, I was told the promotion was good when I originally signed up, but since the order was canceled it was not available when I reordered the service. I have to admit I wasn't very polite when I asked the lady for her name and requested they come pick up their stuff. They decided to "give" me the promotion but they couldn't give it to me a quite the same price. It was $2 more which was fine. I just got my bill. It is for $112.50. According to my math that is a little more than 20% more than the promotional price. It comes with: The bundle at he higher agreed price, Internet $4.90 (Which if Internet is part of my bundle what is this charge?) Fioptics TV $1.90 (Same question) One Time Charges and Credits (Umm... for what, installation was supposed to be free.) There were no explanations for the additional charges. Anyway, STAY AWAY from Fioptics Cable. I gave them two stars because they are less expensive than TWC and the picture quality really is great. But Fioptics is just a fancy was of saying Cincinnati Bell. Different name, same crappy customer service and billing tricks. read more

So they offered us 30M internet. After 6 months, it suddenly became really slow, just about 4M. We called their service and nothing changed. If we asked for a technician you will have to pay a lot per hour, which is very weird, consider they did not provide the speed they promise. read more

I just want ya'll to know that when you try to cancel Cincinnati Bell internet services, they REFUSE to prorate your bill. They will charge for for the entire month, for services completely unused (i.e. after you move out). This is a blatant abuse of power by a wealthy corporation to take advantage of its customers. They take money for services they do not provide from people who--especially during this time during COVID-19 when so many are sick, unemployed, and experiencing unprecedented levels of stress--are under crushing financial hardship and have no bargaining power. If a portion of the bill goes unpaid, Cincinnati Bell will send it to to collections, and the customer's credit will be negatively affected, making their financial lives even more difficult. Morever, this is happening at a time when the City of Cincinnati just rolled out an initiative to help low income people avoid eviction by providing them with a payment. If those same folks are, despite assistance, unable to avoid eviction, and must cancel with Cincinnati Bell, this wealthy corporation will take every penny it can get, no matter the impact on the customers to whom they claim to be so loyal. I ask you, Cincinnati Bell--what are you doing during these terrifying times of extreme financial, mental, and physical hardship, to do your part? Prorated bills when people need to cancel services seems like one pretty reasonable option. read more

great service, sketchy billing intentionally misleading. customer service like this is running on borrowed time. this service is as far from customer centric as it gets, seems like the reps just spin everything around until you get sick of dealing with it and pay or cancel. pretty obvious Macquarie group (parent company/bank) doesn't care at all about customers (shocking) , which is fine for them but nightmare fuel for the consumer. that said, actual product is fine maybe even ahead of its time for Cincinnati. Bottom line is what is the cost / benefit for your business or family. in our experience, we've historically preferred Cincinnati bell in all of our multifamily units across the city bc of good technicians... but recently we've started to offload our investment due entirely to suspect billing activity. If they don't figure out their front line (reps based out of a call center) and low level management ( local agents working from home) any time soon we're probably pulling everything. pretty big missed opportunity for their local office all things considered. My advice to customers - if you can't stand the runaround this service isn't for you. the internet is top notch, the active management of your account is exhausting. and if you have more than one account good riddance. my message to cincinnal bell - be direct. try to be honest. the misdirection from the reps is see through. i dont consider myself a brilliant guy but i run a couple businesses and i know misdirection when i hear it. times are changing and this smoke and mirrors strategy is dying. long term return on your customers is much more important than having an army of human - bots arguing with us for 40 minutes over nickels. customers have and always will come first. We were trying to switch from CB to another company due to a better rate. We gave verbal auth on the phone with CB for the new company to have access to our port. They turned off all services on a verbal auth. The company we were switching to were unable to install due to a need for digging. In trying to get our services switched back on CB said they need paperwork to turn services back on and can not do a verbal auth like we did just a few hours before. The supervisor, Ken, was citing FCC law as to why they cant turn services back on with a verbal acknowledgement. We have 2 children with developmental disabilities one with ASD and if anyone know about a schedule shift for kids with ASD you feel my pain for the next few business days. They wont turn on our service until next wednesday because it takes time to turn the services back on..says Ken. Do not go with CB. They are not mindful of fragile home environments or accomodating to their customers needs. I am yet to understand why they can accept a verbal to turn off services but wont take a verbal to turn them back on. I dont see anything in the FCC regulations that Ken referenced as being the reason for this. read more

A friendly, informative young man who gave me some pointers on what to do to keep mom's wireless hookups working their best plus troubleshooting tips the people on the phone didnt give. While there, he also programmed their remote, so now they only need one. I stop using Cincinnati Bell (AlterFiber) for my home and business years ago, because of horrible services (customer and tech support). However, since they were the first in Lebanon to offer fiber services, I decided to give them a chance to redeem themselves from years past. Again, I been disappointed. First, they installed my Fioptics services on June 7, 2022; that was over 300 feet of fiber cable across my front yard (above ground), and said they will bury it in the ground in 7-10 days (which ridiculous in it self, shouldn't take that long). So I said, ok; however, after 14 days the fiber cable is still laying above ground. So, I call Cincinnati Bell customer services and tech support, then after over more 30 minutes trying to talk with responsible person, I was told that Cincinnati Bell did not have any control of when the line would be buried (that was done by a subcontractor). I called Cincinnati on a weekly basis after, keep running into the same dead-end. As of July 26, 2022, the cable 300 plus feet fiber cable is still laying on top of the ground and my lawn mowing person has been navigating around the cable and the utility flags every week since June 7, 2022. Image what my front yard look like. Secondly, Cincinnati Bell has submitted 3 bills (over $450) for services that haven't completed, demanding that I pay, and then they turn the services off on June 26. So, I call them to remove all there fiber cable and equipment from my property; they told me they couldn't tell me when they could remove the cable and equipment. So don't be fool by Cincinnati Bell, they change their name and add a new product; however, Cincinnati Bell is the same horrible company that it has always been. For those of you whom may think I'm trying to not pay the bills, it's not that; but I refuse to pay form incomplete services. read more

We have been guaranteed credits, charged for "missing" returned equipment after returning everything, charged extra on our bill for no reason, not given guaranteed credits, lied to about cable features, and the list goes on and on and on. Worst Internet service provider. Connection speed drops drastically after evening. Lucky enough that I have unlimited mobile internet as I barely can stream any video on youtube after 8 pm. I was thankfully able to get fiber optics. The first installer from Cincinnati Bell was excellent. He went above and beyond his job. The contractors who bury the line broke it. The next Cincinnati Bell man who came to repair that was excellent. Both were personable and professional. The third Cinci Bell guy who came claimed that the first installer did things wrong. Not so. This guy came into the house reconnected the computer cords and then my laptop could not find the ip. My own tech had to come out and get us back online once the broken wire was repaired. This guy took the modem and never turned it in. I sent Cincinnati Bell a certified letter to no avail. They did not get back with me. They instead sent that account to collections. Cincinnati business practices are not good. We put up with their old equipment for 30 years. They continually send a different person out. The service employees had to come out when it rained after awhile. Maybe someday I will get another company. We need integrity. read more

I strongly advise against Cincinnati Bell services. I contacted them for new service and was quoted $60 for internet, then it went to $90 because of a few additional charges. I agreed. The installer came out and informed me it wasn't real fiber optics it was a downgrade though I was paying for the upgrade and they didn't have it in my area yet, which was a lie from the main office. I reluctantly still agreed. I asked them not to install in the basement which was an easy access area and the technician said it would be fine there well it wasn't. I then went ahead and contacted Spectrum a couple of weeks later when I couldn't get service throughout the entire house. Spectrum came out, installed it where I asked and everything works great. When I contacted Cincinnati Bell to complete the cancellation and request a refund just for the installation they said I should have called them. I wasn't about to waste another day to have a tech come out and tell me all is fine again. They said I should have given them the opportunity to fix it. Well Cincinnati Bell no worries I will never need the opportunity for you to ever fix it again. Spectrum is doing great. I should have listened to the other reviews - consumers do not make the same mistake I made. Avoid Cincinnati Bell at all costs they are no longer the company I grew up with. read more

I had what was supposed to be 30 Mbps internet installed about a month ago. I never during the course of that service was able to get above 0.50 Mbps download. I called a service technician, who baisically told me that 90% of his calls are for "High Speed" customers (above 10 Mbps) but left without solving the problem. I decided that after scheduling a service technician visit, and still not receiving the promised service I was being billed for, that it was time for me to cancel my service. When I called, I was told that service could not be pro-rated if there was a cancellation and that a new payment cycle had started 3 days before my call. I was billed another $70 for service I could no longer, and have never received. DO NOT GET CINCINNATI BELL. read more

I'm impressed. I have never had a company who was so difficult to deal with before I even got their services. I called to get internet set up in my new apartment, called on a wednesday and was told I would receive an email and phone call within 3 business days to confirm an installation time. Well, the 4th day rolls around and I've received nothing. I tried calling the number they added in their first email about questions regarding my order and nobody picked up. I left a voicemail and called a few more times throughout the day and still nobody picked up. The next day I called first thing with their office opened and was still unable to get ahold of anyone. I decided to call customer support and I couldn't even get to the point where I could talk to a representative because you need to have an account already associated with them to use their customer service. I called several more numbers, anything I could find online linked to cincinnati bell in order to try to get ahold of a human being. finally after trying about 5 numbers I managed to reach someone and they were able to work out for me that my first confirmation number was not the confirmation number they actually needed, they needed the one from the second email which i never received. I was promised that my order would go out and someone would be out to install my internet as soon as possible, which turned out to be 10 days from that time. They said they would personally make sure nothing else would go wrong, I promptly told them to shove it. I can not and will not give a cent to a company such as this. If it was this difficult to get the internet installed in the first place, what kind of crap can I be expected to deal with when I actually have their services. How can a COMMUNICATIONS company be unable to communicate. what does that say about how they function. I called Time Warner and they gave me a cheaper rate, and in 15 minutes I had a router being mailed to me with a self install guide which arrived a full week earlier than cincinnati bell could be at my apartment, I had my internet set up 20 minutes later without waiting for a 4 hour window for some oaf to come plug a box into the wall for me and charge me $40 for doing it. I received a call from cincinnati bell the next week about the voicemails I had left checking in and seeing if they could help straighten out my concerns, I told them I straightened them out myself by going with a different company and they had the audacity to ask why, oh the poor soul who had to hear that earful. I hope that call was taped for training purposes. DO NOT EVER use this company! I hope they go bankrupt and shut down, they do more harm than good and need a real lesson on how to run a communications company. read more

Only 2 stars because I think their service is ok......but when you become dissatisfied with price and they want to put you on a new promotion where they mandate you get home phone, RUN FOR THE HILLS. I've spend 10 hours over last 2 months in endless discussions with customer service (which is one of the worst I've ever dealt with). I spent 30 minutes explaining to customer service that I was double charged and he just kept repeating "we don't double charge sir" as if he was reading off a sheet. Called back to cancel service and was put on hold for 15 minutes before I finally gave up and hung up. They called back and said we've removed the $83 charge and didn't apologize and wouldn't admit that they made a billing mistake. I was also told I was receiving a $10 credit and told to just pay $10 less and billing would catch up, I was charged a late fee the next month. I wish I had just cut the cord a couple months ago. Not happy with service. In June, we established service for phone, cable and internet to our new home. We had to be home on 4 occasions for them to run the lines from the street and separately to wire the home. For the first 2, we did not need to be there. We went to set up our phone 5 weeks later and found out it did not work. I had to make 4 calls to them so far to resolve the issue. On the first 3, they said we did not sign up for phone service and could not find the order number. On the 4th attempt I emailed it to them and a 5th call acknowledged that we did. They said they would call us back within a day or so to work it out. I had to struggle to understand the customer service people and had to ask them to repeat what they were saying very often. I don't care where the service people are from, but I should be able to understand them without having to ask them to repeat themselves. My annoyance was heightened by what they wanted to charge me for adding phone service. To add the phone which was a package deal of $114, I was told it would go to $144, $154 and $184 from them. I thought the competitor was bad, but this was ridiculous. The cable TV and internet are OK. Only getting 30meg/second on my IPad, not 500meg/sec as advertised. The 500meg/sec speed is only for hardwired devices. (I was getting 70meg/sec from the competitor on a claimed 200meg/sec) read more

I have used few internet service providers however, this Cincinnati Bell has been the worst internet service provider. Their internet is so slowed down and when I reach out to their customer service, they have neither the answer or the solution to the problem. This has made my working from home a really bad experience because of the interrupted and slowed down internet service. Not going to beat a dead horse, all the reviews point to the same conclusion, BUT I wanted to let my fellow people know one additional thing - if you cancel services, they do NOT pro-rate them. Meaning if you're billing cycle is say the 1st through end of month, and you cancel on the 5th, you are stuck paying for the entire month. The response I got was they only pro-rate "regulated" services (aka phone) but since cable & internet aren't regulated, they decide it's okay to basically steal your money. I've been with both time warner and direcTV and both of them pro-rate when you cancel. I thought every company did. Apparently not Cincinnati Bell, since they aren't forced to by the government. That is shady. They're doing a disservice to our city by having Cincinnati as part of their name. Stay. Far. Away. read more

Fiber Optics TV constantly freezing up! Imagine you are watching the London Olympics with Michael Phelps about to win Gold and the channel freezes and only that channel. Recycling the box does nothing. All other channels work. Then comes the first presidential debate... same thing. Numerous phone calls to their customer no-service resulted in at least 4 technicians coming out to fix the equipment THEY INSTALLED. Still the problem persists. Internet quality is also intermittent. Cincinnati Bell all but admitted their incompetent and offer refund and told us to hold off pay the bill. Two months later, the promised credits are nowhere to be found. We were given ticket numbers, talked to the accounting department and technical department. Then they cut service in the middle of a business day where I depend on internet connection for my business. A phone call and the service came back on. What is so upsetting is the promised credit was never delivered but they didn't skip a heartbeat to turn this to "collection" for the portion of the credit that they told us not to pay. Now we are into the third month fighting with Cincinnati Bell and we are about to file complaints with the FCC, Ohio Attorney General and PUCO. Initially they came door to door to sell their fiber optics services over the summer of 2012. We should have checked Yelp before switching. read more

Concerning FiOptics: After 15 years of tolerating a mediocre connection thru another company, I believed the hype from FiOptics and switched from cable to FiOptics via Cincinnati Bell when it became available in my neighborhood. Now I get many, many more connection drops per day (sometimes per hour) than I did before, and I definitely do NOT experience any of the "screaming" computer response times promised by sales guy and installer. The only screaming I hear is from me. :) They also did an extremely sloppy install, leaving bits and pieces of wire and clippings and screws and torn insulation etc laying here and there - and ruined some of the wall in the basement. Before FiOptics I had one small box near the computer. Now I have TWO boxes and a new extension cord on every TV, and three more boxes and extension cord in the basement. At night, my office, family room, bedroom, and basement are each lit up like a Christmas tree from the many DOZENS of new red, green, and yellow flashing lights on those boxes. The lights NEVER quit. I am able to close the bedroom TV cabinet to cover those lights at night, otherwise I'd rip it all out and go back to cable. I put my landline onto the same FiOptics system, and that part seems fine in every respect. The only benefit I have seen from this fiasco has been minor cost. The system for TVs and computers cost about the same as previous cable configuration, but the landline costs approx. $20-$40 less per month. I only continue in this mode because I expect to move across country in a few months anyway. Otherwise, I'd have it all removed in a heartbeat. read more

Cinci Bell has no soul whatsoever. We switched to another company last May, and were told when we turned in CB's equipment that we were fully paid up and owed nothing. However, we did have a final bill which we thought we paid. Two days ago we found our credit rating had dropped about 100 points because they submitted the final bill to their collection agency, never notifying us in any way whatsoever that we owed anything. So this company has no morals, and doesn't care a bit that our ability to purchase a home has been dashed to pieces. NEVER do business with Cincinnati Bell if you care about keeping good credit. Even after paying the final bill, they still claim they are unable to have the credit bureaus take this off their reports. Cinci Bell says we'll have to wait at least 30 days. Last year I signed a contract with Cincinnati Bell to provide telephone and internet. Unfortunately this year's business slowdown has forced me to close my business. Cincinnati is unwilling to compromise in any manner. They said the only way I would not have to pay 100% of the contract is if Cincinnati Bell went out of business. I could understand this position if I was leaving for another provider. But I am out of business. Be very, very, careful in signing any sort of contract with CB. You mention the BBB(Better Business Bureau) and they go nuts, say you're threatening them and disconnect the call. They raise their prices arbitrarily based on the competition even though the service still sucks. There is ALWAYS a bunch of miscommunication, they promise one price then charge you another. When you call to complain about it you will wait 3 hours to speak to a customer service representative, then they will tell you that the documents do not correspond with what you are saying, then they will tell you that you have to wait for them to review the call and call you back. They never call back. I can't believe this trashy service is still in business. Im about to contact a lawyer because there needs to be a class action law suit against this company. Honestly received amazing service when we first started internet service with them. Now almost a year later keep in mind we haven't added any new devices to soak up bandwidth or anything , the service has declined horribly. Having to call in to have the router reset , technicians coming out cannot solve the problem. Spent hours on the phone with them trying to trouble shoot everything I can possibly do. I can recommend to anyone please avoid them , customer service is over seas which is not a personal issue it's just very hard to understand the broken English. The technicians and technical support team cannot resolve issue and if you request a supervisor they will continue to plead with you on how they can help you while ignoring your request for escalation. read more

Been with them for 15 years and I had them as my internet provider. Well I sold my house and was waiting for my new one to be done so I kept email with them. When I went to get my service back on I was told email doesn't mean you have service. I thought zoomtown was. Guess not. So I was told we need to do a credit check. I'm like no why. They did not credit my account and sent my invoice to collections. I told them the store I returned the router to and they state they cannot track it. It's 2018. Come on CB! Insane. The television fioptics is trash, it is always freezing up for minutes and even hours,it is the strength of single because it is on all sets. At 220.00 a month this Cincinnati Bell is creating theft when you pay for a month of service and only receive half of use. This isn't about a store, but about Cincinnati Bell's inability to provide sufficient band width to service 2 tvs and two phones at 4:30PM on Labor Day - I'm not sure what I am paying for, but as soon as I find an alternative, I will no longer be a customer of Cincinnati Bell - mostly because they don't want you to have access to customer service - numbers are impossible to find and live chat is limited to business hours. I should be able to call with a complaint about lack of band width, but apparently CB does not want to know what their customers think! read more

I switched to spectrum for internet. Cincinnatibell had a 7mbps to 30mbps download speed on ethernet 70 bucks a month. Spectrum 54 bucks, 75 Mbps download over WiFi. On top of that Cincinnati bells customer service was horrible. My wife and I moved and called ahead to switch our service over on a specific date. Cincinnati bells told us we had to wait another week after we were already supposed to have new service. So we canceled and switched, Much happier. read more

I have Cincinnati Bell for my wireless service. I work from home 1 day a week (every Tuesday) and for months have contacted them about extremely slow internet speeds. Example of slow...I type a five letter word, and go let my dogs outside, go to the restroom and return to only find 2 letters typed and it's still thinking. *This is not an exaggeration. On a side note I also have them for my cable which required me to have to reboot my TV box several times a day. I wasn't certain at first if the issues were with Cinti Bell or the VPN from work so I had my IT tech come out to troubleshoot. I am not the only one that works from home, but I am the only one who has issues working from home and the only one that has Cinti Bell. My IT guy said it was a Cincinnati Bell issue. I placed a service call (was reminded it could be billable) and they sent a tech out. He checked the internet speeds (which were very fast) and noticed we had a secondary modem. He asked what is was for an nobody knew. He said they were likely fighting each other and asked if he could disconnect it and I told him yes. While he was here he noticed the very old cable box. He said they aren't allowed to just replace them, but if they are onsite for something else they can, so he replaced that. I haven't had problems with the TV since. Shortly after he left it started running slow again. I again notified Cinti Bell Tech Support and my IT department. My company cannot find any issues on our end and have gone as far as getting me a new laptop. Even with the new computer, every Tuesday I consistently have issues. I call Cincinnati Bell to report them. They do speed test and say my internet speeds are fast (and they are around 80mbps or higher). This has been going on months and months. I have placed multiple service calls with them. The last service call the guy came out and asked about the 2nd modem I had and why it was disconnected. I told him the previous tech told me they were fighting each other. He to the contrary said that both are probably needed and told me to hook it back up (I didn't). I have been told that it may be a firewall setting issue on our end at work. My IT said that is not true as we also have Cincinnati Bell Wireless at work and have many issues with it. This tech was onsite to see the extremely slow speeds. He changed out the modem and shortly after he left it started running slow again. I have been asked by Cinti Bell tech support to install an app on my phone so they can troubleshoot remotely. The end result is they always tell me my speeds are very fast yet my computer constantly tries to re-connect. I have also been told although my speeds show as very fast (80 something mbps, they only guarantee 30 something mbps) which they say should be totally capable of running many devices at high speeds, yet I can't run one at high speed without re-connectivity issue. I also called an IT guy who used to work for our company that has his own business now (all at my own expense) to look into the issues that I've had over months and months. I explained to him everything my IT guy said as well as what Cinti Bell tech support has said. He also came out and tested speeds and said they are very fast as well. He was able to connect into Cinti Bells modem and found the speeds coming into the house from outside were very fast, but said there were multiple issues on the Wifi. He did some pings test as well, but didn't notice any major problems coming into the house. He told me what to report back to Cinti Bell tech support. He said to tell them the issue is with the WiFi within the house. He suggested when speeds are slow to connect my laptop directly to the modem via an USB cable to prove that the speed increases when directly connected...and it does. As soon as I disconnect the USB the speeds drop. He said this proves the issue is a WiFi issue. When I told Cinti Bell this last time they said that depending on where I am in the house it can affect speed. I told them I was sitting on the floor right in front of the modem and it was still too slow. So I backed up to the couch about 6-8 feet away. It was still slow so I backed up in to the kitchen, maybe 20 feet away and it was still slow. Last week it worked fine. The week before that it didn't and I called explaining all of this and it's like it's never been heard to every person I speak to. They just want to tell me that I can place a service call that may be billable or tell me I need to Radius WiFi for a better service.... I'm not paying anymore. The system I already pay for doesn't work and they are un-willing to provide a reasonable solution. Management is worse than tech support. Most recent manager now tells me they don't guarantee WiFi at all, previously I was told they only guarantee up to a certain speed (which I am getting over). It's a shame that I have paid for a service this long with resolution. read more
