Food was flavorful and exactly what we were looking for-- we had enchiladas de pollo (con salsa roja) and a carne asada burrito. The flavor was excellent and the enchiladas tasted homemade. Our server modified the order to our preferences and was knowledgeable about pricing and substitution options. The margaritas are fresh, strong enough, and are a good value. Oh wow! I've been back for 1 1/2 years and missed seeing Cinco De Mayo Mexican Restaurant on Yelp. My loss. I've been hitting those other restaurants closer to my home, I'll be making the drive to Mahan from now on. The ambiance was great. Nicely decorated AND CLEAN!!! Did I mention it's CLEAN. What a nice surprise to walk in. The wife and I were met as we walked in and seated immediately. As soon as we sat down our drink order was taken. The servers English was about as good as my Spanish, and I had some questions about the Chili Relleno's. So I asked the guy behind the bar, who happened to be the owner. He answered all my questions. Now I'm a big lover of Chili Rellenos, but this was my first visit, so I went for a combo; chili rellenos, enchilada, and taco. The wife went with her quesadilla. All of them were delicious!!! But I have to say that's was the best chili relleano since leaving San Jose CA. Next time I want to try their Tamales, of course with a Chili Relleano. 4 stars on the first visit. Another "Taco Tuesday" adventure. Had noticed this restaurant from the road on several occasions but didn't realize it was open for business. We stopped in for a late lunch and really enjoyed the meal, though I didn't care for the abundance of sauce served on my meal. Very nice atmosphere as well; very clean. Our server was attentive and friendly. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my husband ordered the chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas, in addition to chicken nachos to go (which were good as well, though I wouldn't suggest getting this dish to go in that the "nachos" were quite soggy later). Of note, the complimentary tortilla chips and the freshly made salsa were delicious! I really would have been satisfied with just the chips and the never-ending salsa! Dining options are few along Mahan Drive on the east side of Tally. If a restaurant is busy does not always equate quality dining....more that the locals do not want to drive further. On a rainy Thursday night, we decided to stop by as a plan B. The dirty to tables would normally be a deterrent; however, we had already stopped by the Fisherman's Wife and were told 45 minutes for the food to come out! ( staffing issues at both places) We were seated quickly in a booth and chips with a chilled carafe of tasty salsa quickly appeared for us . Our server was very pleasant and the food was delivered as expected. I ordered cheese enchiladas with salsa Verde ( sans rice ), jalapenos on the side, of course. Plenty of gooey melted cheese to enjoy and add to some chips for quickie nachos! Others ordered a combo plate with a taco and enchiladas choice of chicken, beef or cheese served with rice . ( no beans though) We ordered a large guacamole and it was fresh and chunky. Have to say that the bathroom was dirty....no soap which is definitely a bad sign if they do not care about cleanliness all around. Good news, by the time we left, the crowds had left and the tables were getting cleared. Despite the decent Tex Mex, the lack of cleanliness is unimpressive. read more

Convo de Mayo, run by a restaurant survivor of the Covid days. Freddy's business was down to a single employee, him during the worst of it. Service is attentive and friendly. The basket of chips, carafes of salsa, drinks; all delivered quickly with a smile. So common are these, we might get blasé even when they are well above average. Here, they are above average to excellent. I was lucky enough to have a Mom who was a great cook. She loved Mexican foods. She made tamales, she made chile relleno, chalupas, and more. My bar was set high. Trust me on this; Cinco de Mayo's chile relleno (cheese stuffed poblano pepper) rocks. Just be careful nibbling around the stem; the heat is only there. This is no doubt one of my favorites spots in Tallahassee. Every time I come here I have no complaints; the food is always delicious with an extremely hospitable staff and for reasonable prices. I have absolutely loved everything I've gotten; the chefs really know how to prepare good Mexican food and there are plenty of options to choose from if you are on a budget. My husband and I eat a lot of mexican food, so we were skeptical of trying this place out. I'm so glad we did, because it was delicious! The enchilada and burrito was on point. The chili reno was the best I've had in a long time. Extra Hot though, so be warned!! My husband had the carne asada, and loved it! And he is very picky about his carne asada. I found this place to be a bit of a mixed bag. I was in town visiting a good friend so after a long day of shopping we met up with her husband for some Mexican food. The parking lot was packed so I was surprised to walk in and see the restaurant barely half full (this was 6pm on Saturday night). Our waiter was nice but incredibly slow. My friend's husband had already gotten a table and drinks and chips when we walked in. We got drinks pretty quickly but it was a while before our waiter came back for our dinner order. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food and our waiter was totally absent during that time. All 3 of us were out of drinks for quite a while before he returned to refill them. I got a shrimp burrito, which tasted great but all 3 of us were kind of over it by the time the food came out. I don't know if they were short staffed or what but it was sort of odd to be in a mostly empty restaurant and have such slow service. Also, at one point during our meal the lights got really bright then really low then bright again. I looked over and there was a small kid (who seemed to know the staff), playing with the lights. I know this isn't some gourmet restaurant but it was a little weird, the kid really shouldn't have been hanging out in the kitchen. My friends eat here regularly and said this was not a typical experience so I guess they were having an off night. Good food, weird service. read more

Got there at 2:00. Place was not busy at all. Maybe two other tables had a couple people at them. Ordered three margaritas and two waters. It took 30 mins for ours drinks to arrive. The waitress didn't even bring the waters until AFTER she brought the drinks. We ordered food. Surprisingly, It came in about 15 mins, but the fajita lunch wasn't even on a hot plate. It was served on the plate with the beans, rice, lettuce, guac, etc. plus we had already ate 3 baskets of chips by the time our food arrived. The salsa was very watery. Then as we were waiting for our bill, a table of 7 was seated next to us and they all received their drinks within 5 minutes. Idk if it was the bartender who sucked or if it was our server, because the table next to us had a different server and they didn't order any alcoholic drinks. Either way, we won't be back.
