I have been coming here since they were in their little building. Today's experience was phenomenal! I had the enchiladas Mexicana. Three chicken enchiladas with a white queso sauce on one, a red sauce on one and a green salsa in the third. The green salsa knocked it out of the park! Flavor happy mouth! I also had the queso sauce to go with the chips. Addictive I tell you! My friend had the fajita tacos that were flat out yummy. On other visits, I've had a lunch special. Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant is located on a side street in the Florida Panhandle city of Monticello. It was a nice find and though a bit of a way off of Interstate 10 (maybe ten minutes), the food definitely was worth the twenty minute round trip off of Interstate 10. The interior is pleasant enough with tables painted with bright colorful scenes. My particular table had a painting of a gaucho trying to win the heart of his lady. My server brought me chips with both salsa and black refried beans. This was a great way to start the meal and I thought thatthe salsa was the real winner. Thick and full of flavor. For my meal, I chose the King Kong burrito, which was a burrito stuffed with steak, rice, beans, cilantro, grilled peppers and grilled onions. The burrito was topped with a cheese sauce, ground beef and salsa verde. This was a great choice, though be advised that while my server asked if I wanted them on the burrito, she never mentioned that there was an upcharge of $1.25 for the grilled peppers and $1.25 for the grilled onions. Though I will say that they added a nice touch to the burrito and worth the $2.50. The burrito was about twelve dollars ($11.99 to be exact), so lunch with tax was $15.50, so either tip, it was twenty dollars (I just had a water with it). All in all, this was an enjoyable lunch and I would recommend a visit here. read more

Atmosphere typical Mexican restaurant, wooden booths, Concrete floors, Mexican music, etc. So the overall culinary quality was not disappointing, a solid 3 to 3.5 stars. The main disappointment was the staff was not friendly at all. Their customers seemed to be a great inconvenience. Our server Freddy had a real attitude, he seemed irritated and inconvenienced. This review is for Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant in Monticello, FL, for a lunch meal on 2 January 2025. There were two of us there on a date, and I ordered a mixed fajita with chicken and steak, specifically saying "no shrimp" to the male waiter. My meal eventually arrived on a dirty looking porcelain plate, with fingerprint smudges on the outer portion of the plate. No steaming onions or peppers on the plate when it arrived was my first clue that something was wrong. The wait staff and the cook in the kitchen must have teamed up to sabotage my meal, as there was a strong, disagreeable seafood flavor coming from something under the pico de Gallo, crumbled cheese, and guacamole - from what looked to be a small portion of spoiled shrimp on the plate. In order not to embarrass my friend who had suggested the restaurant, I didn't say anything to the wait staff at the time. But this wasn't an accident in the kitchen, this was deliberate tampering in the kitchen. read more

This is a follow up review of this restaurant in Monticello, Fl. 11 months ago I sang praises for the menu selections and prices. The failing grace back then was my food was nearly cold. I had said next time I went there I would make special note to the waiter to heat my food up either in the oven or the microwave. I forgot to do that and sure enough out comes my nearly cold food. I didn't complain because we were invited by someone else to go with them to the restaurant and I didn't want to introduce negativity into the evening. So beyond cold food, my other complaint for the night was a tamale I ordered. It came laying on a plate in a million pieces. Evidentally it had been dropped and replaced on my plate. Since I didnt find any grains of sand in it, I assumed (big assumption) that it was not dropped on the floor. I should have sent it back to the kitchen for a whole tamale. Unappetizing it was. I was told by our friends at that meal that the place was usually packed on a Thursday night but the crowd was low this evening. It is not hard to see why and I predict this restaurant will fail in the next year as attendance drops to a level where there is no profit to be made. The sad thing is, this restaurant has all the potential to be very, very good. All it really needs is some good management and attention to detail. As is however, they are doomed to the pile of failed restaurants because they lost their vision for greatness. read more

We drove out here for dinner for my daughter's birthday at her request. Everyone got something different. Prices were very affordable at $3 for a kids meal and $7 for a combo platter. Tip order the bean dip and get something with enchilada sauce. Both tasted homemade and were great! They didn't have draft beer which I like with my Mexican so minus one star but the bottle beer selection was decent. The hubs basically licked his plate clean. He said the chimichanga was legit. This was our second visit to Rancho Grande. We really like it. It's an old authentic looking cantina inside and out. It's just comfortable to be there. The heaping basket of chips and salsa are a great way to make us feel even more welcome. This time my husband got the Mexican stew and thought it was delicious. He said the rice and beans were also quite good. I got the Azteca burrito and was not prepared for the heat. As I sat there eating it with tears running down my cheeks, I enjoyed every bite. I ordered mine with pulled beef and the burrito has three toppings on it: 1/3 is salsa verde, 1/3 is cojito cheese sauce, and 1/3 is salsa rojo. Not being a fan of cojito, next time I'll just ask for the two salsas. I also had a really satisfying margarita. Two would have been even better! Looking forward to our next trip to Florida so we can visit again. read more

The food is better than anywhere else, with exception of their sister restaurant in Madison. That place is a 5 star. The staff is very attentive and polite. All of the staff are very efficient, which is impressive. What keeps them from a 5 star is the place needs a serious upgrade. Tables, walls, chairs are extremely worn, and need of fresh paint. Went with a group and was next to last to pay my ticket. (Everyone's is all together on one slip) They were going to make me pay for someone else's appetizer that I had nothing to do with. Simply because they were with the group. I had never met this person before tonight. I refused to pay for anything I had not ordered. They were going to pass that cost to the friend behind me. They then went outside to get the person responsible to pay their own bill. Give each person their own ticket is what needs to be done.
