    Gordita - next to stage

Shout out to Sarah and Yelp for tickets to the event this year! Based on old reviews, it's a bit more expensive now at $20 a person. The line was not short and it took about 15-20 minutes to get in. It turns out there is another entrance by the rides, which alcohol is not allowed or sold here. A lot of options for food! We took a lap and tried a few spots - I wish I remembered the names. Music was fun and traditional, along with wrestling and boxing in places. Shopping mostly near the stage side of Tom McCall. It can be really dusty and crowded! Lines can block paths, stopping everything - it's honestly chaos. You have to buy tickets to play games and ride rides, which has a long line. Ride lines even longer. We skipped it sadly. Nice to see so many people and families attend.

Had such a great time here! The food was fresh and full of flavor, and the staff made us feel really welcome. The vibe was fun and perfect for hanging out. Highly recommend!

This event was incredible! The music was amazing, there were a ton of food options available, and plenty of vendors to explore. I loved seeing the mariachi band and dancers! They even had some fair rides! I will be going back next year

    Lots of food booths!

I was visiting Portland for a week to see my daughter who lives there, so I checked the Portland Yelp events page prior to my visit and I RSVP'ed to get free admission tickets to this event. And the awesome PDX CM Sarah gave me some tickets! Yeah! That was so nice of her! (Admission for 2 adults would've been $24). The festival was held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We decided to go on the last day, on Sunday, as it was May 5th (the actual Cinco de Mayo). Unfortunately, it was POURING rain. There was a decent turnout despite the weather, but for sure there'd have been way more people if the weather had been nicer. There were some carnival rides. Again, if the weather were nice, I'm sure kids and teens and young adults would've LOVED these rides. As is, there still were some brave souls on these attractions, even in the pouring rain. (I call this area of the waterfront, with all the rides, the "vomitorium". No way could I go on these rides! But I digress....). There were tons of booths for food (mostly Mexican fare, naturally). Prices seemed high but, hey, isn't that usually the case at carnivals? They sure smelled good (especially the churros). They had some carnival games with the usual stuffed animal prizes. And I saw a few booths selling knickknacks and tchotchkes (various souvenir stuff and, surprisingly, not much that was Cinco de Mayo-related). There was a huge tent with a stage but there were no performers playing when we were there. (The line-up of entertainment for all three days of the festival seemed impressive!). And there was a large tent to do crafts with and for the kiddies (lots of crayons for coloring, stickers and peel-on "tattoos", etc). One unfortunate result of all the rain was the ground turned to mud. Literally. Those of us who weren't in rainboots got our shoes and the bottom third of our jeans covered in mud. It would've been ideal if they could've put down a ground covering/tarp "carpets" in the more heavily trafficked walking aisles between the booths. There ever were some mud "puddles" that you HAD to walk through as there was no way around them. It was really messy. All in all, it was okay, but the weather really put a damper on things.

This is a fun annual event in Portland. I had never gone before. We went on opening day. We got lucky that the rain held off till we got back to our car! We got to try some tasty food. I had a need empanada and a cookie with caramel in the middle from an Argentinian booth, and a pupusa with cheese from another. My husband enjoyed a huge burrito bowl, and a couple different drinks-mango and Jamaica. There were lots and lots of people, even with the threat of rain. They had live music and a full carnival midway! The security was good-we saw police and they also checked people at the entrances, so we felt safe.

The waterfront Cinco De Mayo festival could not have been better. This review is mostly for the food, but man those chicken tamales were killer and cheap. I also ate some elotes locos, some beef tacos, and some random German sausage to boot (I know, not Mexican, but hey, I welcome the German vendors who wanna support a fiesta). Drank me some wine slushy, finished up my feasting with a delicious cube of fudge. Only drawback: $8 entry, most places were cash only. But hey, the $8 wasn't too bad since most of the fair food at Cinco de Mayo was relatively inexpensive and good quality. The chicken tamales were generous and they were only $2 a piece. Friday is definitely the best day to go, for future reference, since you can get in for free until 3pm, and if you happen to stay (or leave and come back, you get stamped) until sunset, you'll get a spectacular firework show, o como se dice en Español, espectáculo de fuegos artificiales. There was live mariachi bands, dancers, dance lessons, a Miss Cinco De Mayo contest, a ferris wheel I was too afraid to try out, and a bunch of vendors and rides. People were coming out of the woodwork to earn that Mexican dollar, and you know what, they put on a pretty good show and it was a fabulous event.

My siblings loved the rides and the entertainment. We bought food around 1045pm, but when we finally got it, the park security said the park is closed and that we had to leave. It was a full plate of Mexican food, so eating it while walking was really hard and irritating. They should have closed the food stands at 1030, so they wouldn't have problems with people who want to sit and enjoy their food.

We drove up from Grants Pass just for this faire! We arrived around 10:30am and luckily enough found a decent parking spot fairly quickly. We were very confused when we saw the line, it was several blocks long and seemed to be doubling around....we initially could not figure out where the end of the line was. When we finally figured it out we discovered the wait was over 2 hours long! We did not get inside the Faire till around 12:45ish I believe. Of course we missed the opening ceremony. Being newbies we were not dressed up so we ended up buying outfits to wear from the vendors.... beautiful options but very expensive! Still, once we got dressed up and in the spirit we enjoyed ourselves tremendously!! Almost everyone was decked out in costumes, which was so much fun to witness!! Many people were decked out so elaborately and authentically, it looked as professional as a movie set!! Just incredible!! We were also VERY impressed with the quality of merchandise....the majority of vendors were selling beautiful high end or hand crafted items. I loved what I got! Although the prices were much higher than I've seen in recent times, still I guess you have to pay to play. The food lines were ridiculous! Very chintzy portions for waaaayyyy overpriced food. The only thing we got to eat was a very anemic almost empty looking gyro for the outrageous price of $14 each, the taste was decent....but after waiting an hour in line to get it? Not worth it. I would bring my own food next time. Luckily I did get a beer and the commemorative mug which was soooooo pretty! The beer line went super fast which was nice. Overall I loved going to this Ren faire on their opening day, Saturday which was Fantasy/Fairy day! If I lived closer I'd go every weekend and see it all! I sadly did not get to see the jousting or any little shows as we were not well prepared or organized enough this time around. We missed most of the shows waiting for 2.5 hours to get in with one of the longest lines I've ever seen (don't forget having families stand in the road). Then we found out most of our favorite faire food was sold out. Waited in line for other food to be told they had very limited options. Proceeded to wait almost an hour for mead. Highly disappointed in the fact that Faire sold as many tickets as they did but continued to keep ONE entrance, ONE check in booth, and the same amount of space. Also seems like the food vendors were highly unprepared for the amount of people. Unless things change, I don't see us spending money for this Faire next year. Which is a huge shame. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, people couldn't even be bothered to say HAZZAH.

My favorite part was absolutely and by far the 'tour' we took. It was actually a beautiful lecture on Greek Orthodoxy by a devout priest with a thick accent and the charisma of ten men. I learned more about the differences between most americanized xtianity and what they practice in that beautiful place than I ever had before, and was blessed to do so in a beautiful setting on a beautiful day surrounded by joy and the smells and sounds of revelry. I am far and beyond not xtian, I practice something somewhat wider, but by my own rules I get to partake in all ideas of spirituality and many of the practices in many flavors with great exuberance. In this. Some days are more beautiful than others. This man, this priest, was truly moved by his beliefs, and I believe Greek priests to be some of the most educated practitioners of any dogma. He had such a beautiful grasp of the nature of his church, and a wonderful knack for communicating those ideas to any newcomer who might cross his path with interest. So unlike the many small clickish churches in the community I'm surrounded by. Instead of exclusionary, it is open-armed, ready to share without force what they believe with examples and proof as to the impact such beliefs can have in a life that needs it. It truly feels welcoming. If you have the chance to walk into one of their public events, do it. Even if it's just to learn some history of a colorful people and stare at the beautiful walls that will surround you. The upstairs presentation of beloved loaned items that represent a variety of subjects in the history of the culture was impressive, and the enthusiasm of those showing it off can't be matched. I was heartbroken we couldn't stay for the dancing. The venue is well organized and easy to navigate, and it's one of the few festivals I've been in Oregon where people were polite all around.
