went here to see a CG5 concert with my dad and I just want to say that I loved every part of it! The whole place was just great, it was super nice and awesome. I didn't feel like I was squished which was great and the sound was super high quality! I would definitely recommend this place no matter what you want to see! 10 out of 10

This ballroom kind of reminded me of Hawthorne, Roseland, and then the other typical ballroom like this for smaller than used to play but Corey Feldman been inside this room was very unique, and out of the ordinary has is his music choice of being an artist and entertainer outside of Hollywood, film and TV... that being said, it was a very great experience, and I giggled a little bit as you would but at least I can say I saw Corey Feldman and even chatted with him a few times on Instagram and exchanged a few laughs here and there together.

There really is a lot to dig about this old time venue. The space is large and even better, has multiple levels. So, you can hang with the main crowd downstairs in the middle of the action with the bar, merch and feel it. Or you can climb another set of stairs to yet another bar which is a bit of chill that also leads you into a balcony area to watch the band and stage from above. I hadn't been there in years so it was a treat to see the Dead Kennedy's here towards the end of last year. At the time I was a bit unsteady on my feet having recently been able to leave my cane at home. I did not want to take a risk going to a punk show in the pit...I ain't that crazy! Being able to be in the balcony and see all the downstairs action in the pit made me wish I was ready for that level of action!! Great view from everywhere in the place and so someone like myself can actually watch a great show! I wanted to attend another show when I was in a wheelchair and though I ultimately was unable to go, the venue not just answered my inquiry but made it very clear they were happy to help me out. I love places that try to help us all out with a smile like that so bravo!

So when I say…read morethat this is one of my favorite venues of all time, I'm comparing it to a lot of places! The showdown is a beautiful piece of Portland history. What was obviously once a country western venue, has turned eclectic, and Portland quality weird. It's old, it's worn, it's beautiful. The sound is excellent, distinct sounds from each instrument even above 90 dB so super props to the sound guy! I thought the menu was great and an exceptional value for a music venue with salty nibbles, and locally made red hot sausages, Also really delicious. Everybody there was super nice, the bartender was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. The seating is not the most comfortable in the world, but I sat there for four hours and barely moved because it was just that much fun. Can't wait to go back and see the next band I can't stop listening to.

Dancing seems to be the priority here. Some would say that The Showdown is a proper honky tonk, but it seems to be a bit more upscale than that description would imply. On my visit, one of the televisions was showing "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which was a fun surprise. Food is available at very reasonable prices. The menu is very small, and the food is nothing spectacular, but it is better than expected. Despite what Google Maps says, parking around here is TERRIBLE. It is all street parking, and not much in close proximity. Staff is FANTASTIC!!! Very friendly, very helpful, very professional. Service is prompt, and there is a fair number of non-alcoholic options. Tuesday nights feature a drop-in two-step dance class if you're interested. The instructors were top-notch, friendly, and great at what they did. There were probably 20 people in the class when I went, and the periphery seating gave me a great vantage point of the instructors and students (I couldn't wrap my head around it, but all participants seemed to be having a great time). The PA system sounded great, and the volume levels were very appropriate for the size of the room (it is nice not to have been deafened by needlessly loud music). The band was the true highlight of the night. They were awesome.

When the line gets long it feels like you're blocking the front entrance. We stayed at our table (maybe ten feet from the front counter) and the waitress gave my sister a hard time for grabbing us a round of drinks. Wouldn't sell her three drinks with us right there (mind you we all three went up and showed ID with the first round, and showed ID to get in). I had to come down, and be standing next to her to say, "yes, the second drink is for me." Which was super weird. There is sometimes a cover, no cover when we went this evening which was a fun surprise. It was my first time coming but my sister (in the photo) had been here quite a few times before. The music is great, they mix it up quite a bit, but it never stops. It does get warm in there, and when we first arrived we were assaulted with the smell of body odor... I hate to say it but after a few minutes you stop noticing it. They have a super cool vending machine that has all different types of fun items for purchase. I would definitely come back if I was out in the area!

They seem to be pocketing money because when I ordered from one bartender my drink was $7 then with the other bartender it was $11, for the same exact drink. They free pour, which is fine, but they don't even pour full shots, the female bartender with blonde hair gave me a one second pour which isn't even half a shot (it was my first drink)... The other female bartender with black micro bangs took an automatic tip from me, I handed her $15 for an $11 drink (which was $7 half an hour before) took my money then screamed "NEXT" in my face. She wouldn't acknowledge me when I asked for my change back. This bar is very cool but the bartenders don't make anyone want to stick around or come back, they've screamed at me and made me incredibly uncomfortable.

The opening band was a Depeche Mode cover band called Hiding from Love (lots of "love" in the air tonight). My daughter has been on restriction, but we took a break from it as tribute bands are my guilty pleasure. I used it as an excuse to dive deeper into both bands beforehand. I know most of the hits although not always by name. My daughter and Sarah went up front to dance at the show and we had fun. Something interesting i found out was that Personal Jesus by Depeche is not even in their top 2 songs on Spotify currently. The other two songs are hits that i've heard, and i understand Depeche Mode is not a one hit wonder, but i was shocked to find out their song Enjoy the Silence has twice as many plays as Personal Jesus. Personal Jesus in my experience has always been the stand out hit, even at the show the crowd loved that one the most. Also Personal Jesus was released first as b-side in 1989, and was later released on a studio album the following year. The other big hits on the studio album (Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, and World in my Eyes) although very 80's sounding, were released in 1990, which i had forgotten. Weird, i think of them as 80's songs. Not only that, but Depeche Mode, I learned very recently, has multiple other great songs that sound like they are from the 80's but were released years or decades after the 80's ended. Last note: They have an album (at least on streaming and it's listed as a "single" even though the collection is 3 hours long) of remixes called Violator: The 12 Inch Singles, and although i generally dislike remixes there are quite a few good ones on there. Many of them could fit well in a movie score.
