Unfortunately, prices are too often marked incorrectly, but the biggest problem is customer service is severely lacking. Since having two awful experiences, I generally restrict shopping at Soma for when I have a reward to spend. However, I had an unexpectedly positive shopping trip there recently: The associate Sophia was friendly, professional, and helpful. I would actually shop there more often if other staff members would emulate Sophia! She personally has earned a full 5 stars and is bringing up Soma's overall rating to 4 stars (would have been less stars for Soma had I written this review prior to meeting Sophia).

Did my google searching for photographers in Houston and contacted about a dozen. Perhaps half responded they weren't available, and half didn't respond. However, one adorable young lady in Austin (3 hours away), Julia Vie of Vivian's Muse, said she was very excited about shooting me! We exchanged several emails about the process and logistics and had an extended phone chat. My trepedation morphed into excitement and anticipation. Let's do this!! The big day! Julia shot perhaps 400 photos in an hour or so, all the while offering instruction, incredible encouragement and showing me what she had captured in her viewfinder. All with a monster camera and first class professional lighting. We shot on the couch, on the stairway, in the window, on the bed. Woah, so exhilerating! Nervousness was gone and my inner goddess had taken over. I'm not one for exaggeration but this was truly one of the best hours of my life. Back the next morning to review and select proofs. Oh no, her computer jammed up, wasn't happening. No problem in the digital age. We had more girly chat, comparing notes on all of the fun we had had the preceding day. A few days later the proofs arrived via email. I was blown away. OH MY! That cannot possibly be me. But...it is! Being a goddess, even for a short while, really gets in your head. And stays there. Who would have thought the idea of having a little fun by trying something different would turn into a life changing event? Thank you so very, very much Julia! I should say I've never been one with the patience/time to comb through the racks (there are a lot) so if you are, it might be worth a try for budgeting and back-to-school. Today I got a 6pk of low cotton socks ($7), a 5pk of microfiber bikinis ($10), and two pairs of cotton/poly trousers ($15 tan, $22 black)--all of these were made in Bangladesh. Also got one Maidenform brand UW t-shirt bra for $20. That's pretty good for $80 after tax. That's nearly outfitting an adult when the luggage got shipped to Fiji or when donating to a shelter wish list. The layout changes almost every time I go, but the greeters and cashiers have been friendly (I haven't needed assistance on the sales floor yet) and they have lots of last minute doodaddery along the winding checkout chute reminiscent of Bed Bath and Beyond. I will say this--they've outlasted a hell of a lot of shops surviving in the same spot for more than two decades.

Their clearance is overpriced lately, and almost absent of Cs in any style compared to either edge of the sizing spectrum. I don't follow their sales too closely, but if you did I'm sure you could find some great promotions as I have stumbled upon in the past. Parking along this row of shops is almost always full when I visit, so it might be easier to park in the back lot north of the food court for a short walk.
