Visited here for lunch, and got the special of the day- turkey BBQ sandwich and a side. The price was right, $10, but I felt like the quality of the food was so-so. The turkey was less than tender and lacked flavor, the green beans were stringy and over-cooked. I'm willing to try this place again- maybe their beef, chicken, or pork is of better quality and flavor, and maybe their other sides are better, but their turkey and green beans didn't sit with me too well. Final note- the atmosphere of the place and counter service was fine, so plusses on that. Full disclosure: I came here because I wanted a pork tenderloin and the place I was going to try was closed. The service was weird. The kid at the front acted so off. I thought I was giving him grace because they got a new POS system, yet he didn't know some simple menu questions I asked him. And he was just super odd, not rude, not friendly, just odd. Both tables I tried to sit at were dirty. The Mac & cheese is creamy and bland. The creamy coleslaw was better than decent. I'd take a quart of that! Their BBQ sauces are tasty, there's just not a huge difference between the three. It's subtle. The tenderloin IS very good. It could stand for some finishing salt, but excellent without. Stopped before a UNI Football game. Food was very good! Cool spot! They were out of the hot link so i was disappointed, but went with the 2 meat plate (Ribs and Burnt Ends). Ribs were tender and delicious. Burnt ends were tender, but a bit over-sauced. Slaw and Mac was above average. Very good experience and will be back! read more

Definitely a weird experience! First thing, kid at the register yells at us the menus are in the basket... which is so ridiculous because you have to walk back to the door if you pass it! Then, we order, same kid literally does not have a clue... like does not even ask our sides, does not tell us a drink is separate from food. The cook went to ask what side my fiancé wants and he just said I don't know without asking us. I literally told the cook what he wanted. Burnt end sandwich had nice flavor, fatty unfortunately which ended up not getting finished. Pork tenderloin was very plan, lacked flavor and the cornbread was dry (crumbling). Unquestionably interesting decoration, massive boat above the table was cool. Gets weirder...noticed water on the floor in place as I went to the ladies room, single stall as I found out opening the door with a staff member fixing her face, apologized, door was unlocked. She apparently thought I was someone else and asked if the men's bathroom wasn't open? Then proceeded to come out of the bathroom and she was barefoot!! Came back said they were cleaning vents and wiped up the water by stepping on a towel barefoot? Health department would have had an emergency meeting over that I'm sure. I don't think we will return. Went here while I was on a business trip. I had the ribs with two sides. The sides were as expected. The ribs were tasty, but were very fatty. I've eaten ribs all over this country. It's not just about the taste, but also the quality of the ribs. My recommendation would be to use a better grade of ribs. read more

I love everything about this place. Being from Texas barbecue is a very big deal. AndI thought I wasn't going to find that one spot to fall in love with. Until, I came to Cindy Lou's. I love everything about this spot, the customer service is amazing. They definitely make you feel like you're at home. The ambience is so peaceful, especially sitting outside on the porch that's what I call it. Make sure you stop by if you're ever in Iowa. The star of the show is definitely the BBQ - honestly the best I've had in the area. The meat is perfectly smoked, tender, and packed with flavor. I got the combo with ribs, brisket, burnt ends, hot links, Mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread. I ate it for days. So much food. What really elevates the experience is the staff. On a cold day we stopped in at Cindy Lou's. We were greeted right away by Chrissy and saw we had to order at the counter. They have specials each day and the Turkey special was real Turkey not processed. Great choice. The apple salad was plentiful lots of bacon (maybe too much), strawberries and toasted nuts. Wow! Just wow! So much fabulous food, cool ironwork facade, and great service! I had the rib/beef combo with Mac/cheese and baked beans. Half the plate was meat with the ribs on top. A double stack of deliciousness. Perfect dry rub and excellent sauce options. The sides, including a scrumptious honey glazed cornbread, was warm and inviting. This place delivers. Link sausage is very good. Proper amount of kick. Sliced brisket was yummy the fatty parts and the not so fatty parts. Ribs which aren't my usual thing were very good. Everyone at the table agreed. Didn't use any sauce for the ribs. But used both the hot and the regular sauces on links and brisket. Mac and cheese side was creamy and delicious. Corn bread was sweet but not too sugary. Service was impeccable. Young dude behind the counter was smart and helpful. Lovely woman handling the kitchen was friendly and active.
