Service was adequate, we were a party of 5 & I ordered 2 orders of Dill pickle fries and when the bill came the appetizers were split into 1/4 and put on each of our bills, never had that happen before, then I was charged $16 for 2 vodka martinis and there was an additional $10 charge for requesting Absolute vodka, that certainly seems suspicious to me. Service was so-so. Ambiance was satisfactory. Would I recommend this place, CERTAINLY NOT! There are much better options for steak places, such as Montage which is no comparison and MUCH BETTER but we couldn't get reservations. read more

American Four of us were working in the area and wanted a decent dinner so we headed over to Whiskey Road. The place was medium full- that is to say, it was not totally jam packed. We got a table with no issue. Waitress arrived with and we got started with some drinks and apps. Honey garlic edamame was different and very good, queso dip was standard fare. For cocktails, we were all over the place: beers, wine and one guy had some whiskey. Frankly, I forgot what the others had but I ended up with a steak, which was fine. A second round of drinks and we were pretty much done with dinner - but we still had a decent amount of drinks left- and that is sort of when we started feeling rushed by the waitress. She asked a few times while we still had our entrees "if we wanted anything else" - which we felt was odd - it did not come across like "are you satisfied", it was more like do you want the bill? Weird vibe. We discussed it among ourselves that maybe she needed to get out and we were her last table but she came round again asking if we wanted the check and my buddy asked her is she was heading out and actually said no- she was there for a few hours more... so the whole thing was perplexing. It has been a while since we have been there with our daughter and son in law to celebrate our 2 grandsons birthdays. They are always at work, so celebrating is difficult. We were there a few years ago and the food, service and the well decorated restaurant, clean and happy people there made me feel like coming back. Came here on a weeknight for dinner. After a short wait I was directed to my seat. The restaurant has a fun rustic design. Coming to the food, I'm not sure if I played to the restaurant's strengths. I'd ordered the seared tuna appetizer, the chicken noodle dish and the soup of that day - chicken and chickpea. First and foremost all the dishes were heavy in the salt and required some acidity to brighten the dishes. Out of all three, the tuna was cooked well, with a little lemon juice it had great flavor. I found the chicken in the soup over cooked and the soup overall didn't have much flavor. The noodles were difficult to enjoy because of the salt. They have the best Moscow Mule's in the Cedar Valley. The staff has always been exceptional. It's my favorite place to take family and friends when they come to visit. They have something for pretty much everybody. The pulled pork is my favorite. I will say their Mac and cheese isn't very good, which pains me to say as a Mac lover. Overall the food was sup par. The extra large tators tots in the appetizer menu was the hit of the night. They were big, tasty, and perfectly cooked. A tutor tots filled with cheese and bacon is a hit I had the waygu beef onion burger. Frankly it was so bad on so many levels especially for the price. No way near a $17 burger. We stopped in for lunch after reading the online reviews. Our server was very friendly and helpful with our menu choices. My husband had the Bison Burger with fries. It came with a side of the whiskey BBQ sauce. The Whiskey BBQ sauce is absolutely delicious! If my husband had it in a glass he would drink it- smokey with a little kick in the end. I had the Waygu French Onion Burger with the Whiskey Baked Beans. The beans were some of the best I've ever had by far- Smokey and rich! I was completely caught off guard by this awesome restaurant and bar. When you walk in, it looks like any other bar/restaurant with nice ambiance and friendly hosts. Luckily, we couldn't be seated (party of 6) for 90 minutes so the hosts recommended waiting in the "lounge." They led us through the restaurant, past the restrooms, and into a lovely 2nd bar with comfortable arm chairs and couches, tastefully decorated, and much quieter than the front room. While we couldn't order off the full menu, we could order any appetizers or desserts... and, of course, whiskey! First, the food. We ordered the "tater tots," southwestern egg rolls, chips and chorizo/cheese dip, and Ahi tuna (raw with a light sear for us, but cooked to your preference). All four were delicious, but the ahi is of special note. I am a huge sushi/sashimi fan, and often find myself dissatisfied with any "normal" restaurant's "seared ahi." It's usually overcooked, over seasoned, and over sauced. The ahi appetizer at Whiskey Road was simply sensational. The generous portion of thinly-sliced ahi was perfectly seared and served with a flavorful sauce and cucumber salad. It was so delicious, we ordered a second round, even though everyone was full! The tots were a gastronomical delight, too! The large fried potato ball had bacon and cheese inside and a spicy sauce for dipping. The southwestern egg rolls put Chili's menu item to shame. There were four (I think?) large rolls, split in halves on a diagonal. Super delicious and filling, especially when you add the spicy queso dipping sauce. FInally, the chips and chorizo cheese dip was so good, my husband used his finger to get all the last little bits from the dish. Finally, the original point of going to the restaurant... the whiskey. We sampled several flights and settled in with final double-pours of Blantons. We managed to be the party that finished the open bottle, and the server even gave us the coveted decorated cork to keep. In case I haven't been clear, this was a wonderful experience for our group. We highly recommend it to everyone - you don't have to be a whiskey lover to love Whiskey Road! read more

I visited this establishment while off route on RAGBRAI. There was 3 of us who joined a group of about 10 after they were served their food. The server was not too happy to see us and as we sat at a open table next to our friends they asked us to move because the table was reserved (no sign). So we tried to squeeze in with our friends. The very unhappy server made me feel like he didn't want to take my order but reluctantly he did. Guess what? I gave you 3 stars because I liked the food and the atmosphere. Swung into Whiskey Road for lunch today and it was great. Started off with smokehouse wings which had great smoke flavor but were a little dry. Didn't stop us from eating all 10 of them though! Wing sauce comes on the side so we tried the honey garlic and Bourbon BBQ, both are good. Hubby ordered the Waygu burger with beans. Everything that comes on this sandwich compliments each other so well, along with the flavor of the burger made this a one of the best burgers he's had. Tender and so flavorful. Would highly recommend and order again. Beans were perfect too. I ordered the bison burger with their spicy BBQ sauce and side of fries which are seasons well. Their spicy BBQ sauce tasted very similar to the Bourbon sauce for the wings. Meat was perfect medium rare, tender and another great sandwich. We sat in the back so it wasn't too loud. Cute place with lots of tables. It was also kid friendly as they had a kid menu and my daughter loved the "usual" Mac n cheese she would normally eat. The whiskey tasting was very good as they had so many choices. I wasn't a big fan of my noodle dish nor my French onion soup. The soup was a little on the cold side and the cheese wasn't even melted as one would hope for as for ordering a French onion soup. Went for brunch. Wouldn't recommend. Scrambled eggs were solidly in the free hotel continental breakfast camp. The only egg options were over easy and scrambled. Guacamole on the steak hash dish was pre-made/store-bought. Bacon was soggy and greasy. Half of the dishes feature what I can only assume is previously frozen deep-fried French toast. We have been eating at Whiskey Road for years. They have continued to evolve their menu with very tasty and interesting dishes. Service has always been prompt and courteous, even during the COVID timeframe, no small feat. The space is large with quite a few tables and booths. We prefer to sit in the back/side section when it is open as that seems to have a little bit quieter feel vs the front which also has the bar area. Wraps and sandwiches have all been very good. I particularly like the WhiskeyRib Wrap. I have also really enjoyed the Smokehouse turkey wrap and the smokehouse turkey club. Portions are generous as well. read more

Wow. Just wow. If you like whiskey, this is the place to go. See the pictures for what you see when you walk to the bar. I started with a shot of one of their single barrel whiskeys (they have four different ones!) then did a whiskey flight (YUP! You read that right a flight of whiskey!) of 6 and 10 year Whistle Pig and the Whistle Pig Boss Hog (1/2 oz pours). This was a great way to try Whistle Pig for the first time! But enough about the whiskey (although I could keep going...), I ordered a loaded pulled pork sandwich and a Caesar salad. The salad was very good and the pork was delicious and had a good almost smoke taste to it! Then there was the bartender. The manager did a great job handling our large party of 40 people. They gave us half of the back dining room which was perfect. The portions are very generous. I ordered the Beef Stack Brisket Burger (15.95...almost $20 after tax and tip). It is a 1/3 pound angus burger topped with house-smoked brisket, applewood smoked bacon, smothered with bell peppers, mushrooms, caramelized onions, fried jalapeños, provolone and whiskey cheese sauce. Served with warm au jus. I found the brisket dry and the bun top a bit too greasy/buttery. Overall flavors are very good. Dipping the brisket in Su jus and eating that separately helped with the dryness and made the burger fit better vertically into my mouth. My family members ordered other items that I wished I'd ordered instead (eg, buttermilk chicken fried chicken). Drinks are very well prepared. I love their old fashioneds. read more

When we're in Cedar Falls, we usually try to eat at a downtown restaurant, and last Wednesday we paid a visit to Whiskey Road. Always plenty of parking, just be prepared to: 1) feed the meter during necessary times, and 2) walk a couple blocks, as this is a very busy business district. BUT IT'S WORTH IT. I chose the Tenderloin, and my wife chose the Fajita Pita. Both were excellent! We each got a house salad for our side, and they too were very, very good. One thing I really liked about the Tenderloin, and you'll be able to see it in the photo, it wasn't smashed paper-thin like some restaurants seem to think is necessary. This Tenderloin was moist (not greasy), chewy, and delicious. Rachel was our waitress, and she took GREAT care of us. We watched her running around, as they were very busy, and she still made us feel like we were the most important customers of the noon hour. So management, I hope you take note and pass along our thanks to her. OK, I know you're waiting for it. The restroom review. We travel lots, and I try to make note of the condition of the restrooms, particularly those in dining establishments when we are on the road. Whisky Road scored a 5-star rating for cleanliness, and that's a hard thing to do, considering the number of people they must have had come through prior to us that day.
