Really appreciate Cinema Arts Theatre and the variety of movies they offer. We are lucky to have it in Fairfax. But about The Odyssey, it is dreadful. I left the showing after 30 minutes. I couldn't understand what was being said. The words were poorly articulated. In the first 15 minutes, I understood fewer than 10 words. My wife left after 75 minutes. Great deal on 11am-4pm tickets, only $12! Purchase online or at the box office. You won't get anything fancy here-no reclining seats. No stadium style seating either so if you're short like me, you may have to move if a tall person sits in front of you. The theatres are big and spacious so it's not a problem if you do need to move seats. Due to the location, the parking situation isn't great but it is manageable. The movies that play here are not the big blockbusters, but lean more artsy. I'd return to see another movie here. read more

Fairfax Cinema Arts is the best place to see artsy or independent film in the area. Tickets are affordable, and the concessions are high quality (and also affordable). The theaters inside are kind of tiny, but the recliner chairs are comfy. I would not go there for a big spectacle blockbuster, but otherwise, this movie theater is top notch. read more

A lot of improvements have been made! I've been to quite a few movies here, and they have really made this a super venue. It's got a home style vibe. Extremely friendly employees, and easy to get in and out of top. Their screens may not be as big as the folks who charge outrageous ticket prices, but they are big enough to make all the difference. Wonderful sound system too. For once the concessions are relatively affordable. Much less here, even with the ridiculous inflation we all are paying. A large popcorn was I think $6.00. It was warm, and the upgraded seats work. Seeing Top Gun Maverick, what a immersive experience. Will absolutely return here, as am thrilled by what they've done here. Plus Mamma Lucia is next door. This is my new favorite theater! It has it all--great selection of indie films, friendly staff, comfortable seats, and tasty snacks available for purchase. When I stopped by to see the film Wild Rose recently, I noticed a sign for a Sunday-morning film club that shows first-run films and includes a discussion. I can't wait to try this out soon! The only thing that might make this theater better is converting the already-comfy seats to recliners. I am torn. I liked everything about the theater except .. they need to improve their soundproofing (is that the right way to say it?).. the movie I saw was quiet and slow moving, I sometimes couldn't understand the dialog because of how loud the movie next door was. And it is not just the throughout explosions and motorcycle or car racing or whatever soundtrack you hear, I could hear the dialog from their movie. read more

This theatre is the DC Area's greatest motion pictures hidden jewel! If you enjoy movies and will be in the Northern Virginia vicinity, I highly recommend a visit to Cinema Arts in the Fair City Mall (Fairfax). They show: mainstream movies, foreign films, and independent pictures. They showed "A Man Called Ove" (the original Swedish film), and then several years later they showed "A Man Called Otto" (the remake with Tom Hanks). How's that for good taste? They have a generous loyalty program, and the most diverse concession stand that I've ever encountered anywhere: chai, glass of Moscato, smoothie, candy, popcorn... be sure to read the menu! This is not a paid commercial for this movie theater. They really are all that and a bucket of popcorn. Friendly workers (even the e-mail newsletter is friendly, well thought out, and not overselling anything), top-notch projection, open-caption possibilities, and comfortable seats (they don't recline, though). About the only thing that I don't care for is they require you to select your seat within the auditorium. Some people make care for that option so they don't have to show up until the previews are practically over, but in practice, most unsuspecting people who show up in person but only 15 minutes before showtime may have a tough time finding good seats together! Therefore, be sure to buy your seats online in advance, or try to arrive 30+ minutes before showtime to select your seats and then you can go to other shops at the Mall until it's time to return. I think there is even a Senior Day where it can get super crowded, but I don't know since I'm not of that age. Senior Discounts (Wednesdays?), Student Discounts (Tuesdays?), and showtimes before 11am are also at a discount for all (LOVE that it's possible to see a movie in the morning!), and then after 11am it might be slightly more? Even though they don't have the fancy chairs that recline at the touch of a button, they have a great selection of movies to make up for it. Cinema Arts is your friendly neighborhood theater that offers many film choices that other theaters wouldn't have. While they also show trending movies, like recently, Avengers Infinity Wars. The quality of the showing was great quality in sound and in screening. They may seem outdated in technology and concessions, this theater makes sense for those who are really just trying to watch the movie and get outta there. We all know there's two types of movie-goers, the ones who like their snacks and various selection of soft drinks, watching their previews, and the ones who just want to see the dang movie! Especially in the case that the film is almost three hours long. Cinema Arts is one of my go-to's because it is convenient and efficient. Some of the recent films I saw here are The Post, Downsizing, Blade Runner 2049, and they were great! I would recommend this theater to any movie-goers who love a good quality film, and what's even better is the tickets are usually cheaper than the popular AMC or Regal. read more

Cinema Arts Theatres is located in the shopping center with Marshalls, DSW, Shoppers, Lifetime... across Little River Turnpike from Woodson high school. The morning price here is $6.50 That is a great price! The weekday mornings are very light. It's like you have the whole theater by yourself. There is a lot of space and the seats are comfy. I don't expect too much when I go to watch a movie vs staying at home. I go for the content. Regular price is cheaper than other big movie theatres around the area. The theater is on the smaller side. It is inside a strip mall and has been around for a long time. We decided to see the new Top Gun movie. It is an older theater located in Fairfax. The seats do not recline. They do rock back and forth and are quite comfortable. The sound quality of the movie was good. A family member remembers working there when they were younger and always enjoyed it. The folks who are working there are friendly and helpful. The popcorn was delicious. They do not have hotdogs which I tend to enjoy at movies. I suppose you could eat before or after. Personal preference. They have handicap seating. I have such a soft spot for this local theater. It's a little ratty and there's no big fan fare when going, but it's so reliable and delightfully low-key. The shows are more affordable than other theaters in the area. The concession is pretty reasonably priced in comparison too. Plus, they're more likely to have indie films than most (any?) of the other theaters in the area. I'm gonna keep coming! This place is perfect for elderly seniors especially on Wednesdays. $6 for people like us on a fixed income. The concession prices are nearly 45% cheaper than my hometown. They don't carry the major blockbuster releases, they have old seats, they don't offer stadium seating, it's located in a strip mall with a bunch of other stores and an Old Country Buffet, and it could probably use a facelift. They're getting five stars. It's wonderful theater. One of the older guys who works there hand-delivers the popcorn to the seats, shouting "Should we show that one?" during trailers. They show the smaller releases, foreign films, and so forth. All of the staff is friendly, the prices are cheap, and... eh, just go. It seems ironic that my first time at Cinema Arts was for Batman v. Superman, because tips from fellow Yelpers tell me this is an independently owned local theatre with heaps of showings for indie and and documentary films. I should have known though, considering the lack of previews for blockbusters and all those unexpected previews for foreign films. These are all pluses for me, by the way. It is kind of old school here, and I liked many details and the overall chilled vibe: - A massive, open theatre - Shopping plaza location with takeaway shops and school uniform shop neighbouring the entrance - A single ticket counter and a single concession - A helpful and friendly gentleman who I'm now beginning to suspect is the passionate owner everyone's taking about; he impressed me with his relaxed but accommodating attitude towards the several of my fairly challenging companions It also helps that the admission is less expensive here, at $9.50 for adult on a Saturday afternoon compared to $11+ at most other cinemas. I want to start by saying that I have patronized this theater for many years. This will not be the case any more. Overall, the employees are courteous and somewhat knowledgeable about the movies. All that changed on my last visit (and I stress the LAST)... Bought our tix and proceeded up the stairs where the ticket taker readily tore our stubs and told us which theater to enter. The doors were still closed but the show was starting in 15 minutes so I figured they would be letting out soon. Hung out for a few minutes then bought popcorn and soda for the show. The door was still closed. Other theaters were seating and they had showtimes later than ours. So I asked... the biggest jerk on the planet... Jack. Jack snapped so rudely at me for asking how much longer it would be. Then the doors finally opened and I went to go in. There were about 25 people waiting by the concessions to go in. Jack literally jumps in front of me and said that nobody was going in until they cleaned up... from the maybe ten viewers. I said that I hope they clean up quickly because I couldn't stand up much longer. He told me to go down the stairs and sit. Again there was such rage in his voice. I said I didn't think I could go down the steps to which he replied (mind you he should have kept his pie hole shut) ARE YOU HANDICAPPED OR SOMETHING? I replied YES and I thought his comment was inappropriate. To which he rudely said that it wasn't. Then he aggressively started making motions saying that we couldn't stand in the lobby because it was a fire hazard. What about the other 24 people waiting in the same place??? That is when my hub asked the manager who that boy was. Mind you the manager was standing by the concessions and there is no way he could not have seen or heard what was going on. He really should have stepped in before Jack got so aggressive. He didn't speak to anyone else waiting for the movie; not one single other person. Just me. So I know that every place has its rules and such but if a movie is not going to be seating within a few minutes, perhaps the ticket sales down the stairs could kindly direct people to wait there until the ticket taker calls for that show seating. That was the whole reason that i didn't buy the tix until about 15 minutes before showtime. Bingo! So simple! Oh yeah... but that would mean people wouldn't but as many concessions since there was very little time between when we were allowed to go in and the actual show time. People in the lobby weren't all that bad when they were handing over their money... basically JACK ruined the entire evening for me. I don't tolerate anyone questioning if I am handicapped or not. That wasn't for him to even ask in the first place and since he did ask, he should have offered to bring a chair. Not just laugh at me. Sadly, I will say a bittersweet goodbye to the over 20 years of patronizing this theater... yes all because of the actions of this one employee and because of the inactions of their manager. I think this is now my favorite northern Virginia/D.C.-area theater. It's close to home (I live in Oakton), parking is ample and the tickets are reasonably priced instead of something you need to take out a mortgage for like others in the area (Rave Motion Picture, I'm looking at you!). However, the absolute best thing about this theater is that I, as a late-twenties moviegoer, was definitely the youngest person at the noon showing I went to. And I love that. No obnoxious teenagers, no smelly foreigners, no screaming kids -- just good, down-to-earth, movie-loving, respectful adults. This was the best movie experience I have had in years. I might actually enjoy going to the movies again. They also don't show long, annoying, repetitive, loud rolling advertisements before the movie. They showed a couple ads after the previews, and that was it. I definitely appreciate that. The only reason I'm taking off a star is because the place is a little run down. The seats have basically no cushioning left and are hard and old and uncomfortable. There aren't even cup holders. read more

This place is great. Been going to this theatre since I was little, and they've always been a nice, homey little place to see a movie. Facilities are well kept, especially since the renovations! Maybe clean the bathrooms a little more freqeuntly, but even that's not a terrible push factor. Employees are always very pleasant and helpful (some of these bad reviews are mad at them for doing their jobs, asking to see your ticket, not letting you in until the theatre is cleaned... most would complain of the place WASN'T cleaned before they went in... get over yourselves). In my experience they've always been very accommodating, even when busy! Since the pandemic, they've opened up curbside popcorn for sale, and even wrap up the top for you to go! It shows a lot of the more award winning and artful films compared to the huge blockbuster comedies and action-flicks, which I personally appreciate. This movie theatre is kept up by its loyal base of customers who recently helped complete a kickstarter campaign to get new seats for the theaters. Now, there are super comfy seats to enjoy!
