    Affordable matinee prices
    Shari D.

Had a great time at this theater, came in for a matinee and it was practically empty. Everything is on one floor, which makes navigation super easy. Staff are friendly, and if you're not in the mood to socialize you can use the automated machines. The theater was clean, and well kept, plus the chairs recline which was an added surprise.

Large screens Parking lot and garage parking (don't know if there's a few for the garage) Small lobby No paper towels in the bathroom Theater is spacious, comfy recliner chairs and was actually pretty clean for a late movie (8pm). Didn't interact with any staff besides the guy scanning your tickets. Snack food line was long so arrive early enough to join. The theater was full I believe I was in theater 4 which has a dent in the screen

MY nephew is an anime fan, so we decided to snag tickets to DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO during opening weekend. After leaving Pentagon City, we wanted to check out a new-to-us movie theater nearby, and AMC Shirlington was the closest. Comfy [reserved] seats + good audio/visual + cold drinks = two happy campers. We'll definitely return. Notes: PARKING - FREE: Lot, garage, street SERVICE - Polite OPTIONS - Suitable PRICE - Fair __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

Decided to catch a movie on my day off. I got there just in time to see "Are your there God? It's me Margaret." I decided to stop by MacGuffin's Bar on the way in. I got a glass of wine and some mozzarella sticks since I had not eaten yet. The wine was nice and cold, while the mozzarella sticks were hot and fresh. I liked that the theater had assigned seating. They also reclined and had a built in cup holder. I would definitely come back.

Ask the Community - AMC Shirlington 7

Is there free parking for the theater?

Yes, but not specifically for the theater. There are several parking garages in the area for the retail (and entertainment) in the area. My advice is to budget an extra ten minutes for parking and walking to the theater.

    How is the parking?

There are a couple of close by parking buildings and limited street parking. The closest building can get crowded, but we generally find a spot.

It's very hard to find a bad seat in a theater when you can lounge almost completely horizontal in your plush leather seat.

So this is my local theater. I go here weekly and it's usually always an enjoyable experience. I've…read morerarely had problems here. The seats are really soft, so if I know a movie is gonna be LONG, I come here. The waiters and front desk are usually very nice and attentive (unless it's a sold out film and they're running around trying to get everyone). The food options here are pretty good! Don't expect Gordon Ramsay food, but it's better food than what you'd get at AMC. I do love how every Alamo is decorated in the fashion of their area. Because we're near DCA, our theater is an airport theme. It's really cute. I do have two qualms: Sometimes they turn off the escalators and if you're handicapped like me, there's no way to get up to the next level. They don't usually like customers using the elevators, but what can you do? Also they have big talk about kicking people out in their phones, but when you complain about someone, the waiters are too afraid to do anything. I saw The Apartment here and there was a guy literally talking on the phone. Three other customers complained about the guy and the waiters did nothing. I had to go over and yell at the guy myself. My BEST TIP for you: if you're hungry and want your food and drinks fast, get to your showtime 15 mins early. You'll have your stuff before the movie starts. If you come on time, you won't see any of that food until the 30 mins into the movie.

Theater 1 isn't clearly labeled and you just have to know it's the large main room. The ordering system also takes some getting used to. You start with a QR code but at a certain point it cuts off and you have to handwrite your order on a paper slip and press a button to call your server. In a very dark theater that's not practical, and there's no confirmation that the button was actually pressed. Service was inconsistent. We ordered bottomless popcorn and M&Ms. The M&Ms arrived after about 15 minutes but I had to remind them about the popcorn, which didn't come until nearly 45 minutes into the movie. We skipped ordering real food because we weren't confident it would arrive in time to enjoy during the film. That said, the chairs are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the pricing is noticeably better than other dine-in theaters in the DMV. It has real potential. Just go in knowing it rewards regulars more than first timers.

Brutalist is a powerful movie with great acting and some stunning scenery shots (I especially loved the scenes shot in Venice and the mountains of Italy). But beware, this movie is nearly 4 hours long! I'm curious about the inclusion of "Café" in the theater's name. There's a refreshment bar downstairs and one upstairs, but I haven't seen a café. Maybe there's one hidden around a corner I don't know about. You can get your tickets at a kiosk downstairs. I'm not sure if you can even buy one from a staffer. Matinee prices end at 2:00pm. Regular prices as of this writing are $17.50/adult, $14.50/senior and $14/child. That's notably higher than at other theaters in the area. We saw Brutalist in theater #2. In theater #2, the best view is in the third row from the top. Nice large screen and a very good sound system. But an ADA alert: the elevator was out of order on our visit yesterday. So if you can't walk up an escalator or stairs, you couldn't see a movie! And to go back down, there is not an escalator (the escalator only goes up).

Last time I was here was in March 2023. Representing February in this series, I went back to February 2016 without a Yelp review. I saw my old credit card bill had charges on Feb '16. When I lived in Arlington at this time, I paid for a year movie pass, & sometimes I would eat at Arlington Cinema & sometimes eat beforehand. Sadly, they were having financial problems in the later part of 2010's with 2nd run movie model as people were either watching movies new in the theater or waiting to stream. At some point, Drafthouse sent an email saying they weren't doing the movies anymore & just shows, special events, & the occasional themed movie night like a classic Christmas Story (at Christmastime) or whatever. I went for a couple of comedy shows & special events, but the vast majority of the times was for movies. Service was a bit of hit or miss. Sometimes the food took a while to get served, but the food was usually good. I got a variety of items over the years like the burger, sandwiches, wraps, wings, pizza, etc. Nothing was top notch, but nothing was bad either. It was on average pretty good. Servers were sometimes friendly, but not always. They are called Drafthouse because they serve Beer & alcohol, & I remember I put a few down back in the day! But in all honesty, I'm not sure I ever had more than one in a sitting; otherwise, I'd be drunk, broke, & even more broke needing to Uber home & Uber back to my car the next morning. So, I'd never do such a thing. There was one time when I lived on Columbia Pike in Arlington near the Fairfax County (Bailey's Crossroads) border, my car was in repair, & I was determined to see a movie that I want to say a Monday night & wanted to use my annual movie pass. So, I took the bus! The Columbia Pike line bus was very efficient, not much difference in timing as if I drove myself there. I continued with the 2nd run movies into 2017, but I moved from Arlington to MD in Fall 2017, so I generally stopped going here. However, I did continue to come on a few occasions for comedy shows. In 2019-2020, I was on INWEGO, which was an event based app, you paid $19 for one event in the month, $39 for 3, or $59 for 5. I generally did the $39 for 3, but sometimes did $19 depending on what they had for the month. It was cool things like concerts, plays, comedy shows, & sporting events. I took advantage of all of the above. My girlfriend at that time & her friend/other friend husband traveled from Wheaton, MD to Arlington on Friday, February 22, 2020 for a good comedy show. That was the only time I used INWEGO to go to Arlington Drafthouse. I joined INWEGO in mid-April 2019, & we know what happened in mid-March 2020. INWEGO sadly went defunct in September 2020 as they couldn't operate under the Covid environment. I joked the INWEGO era was the best 11 months of my life. I went on a couple of dates here over the years in the 2010's for movies. Prior to October 2014, I lived in Alexandria & sometimes went to Arlington Drafthouse. One time in January 2013, I had a first date at Lost Dog Cafe across the street & saw [deep breath] Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love the Bomb. We kissed at the end. So, that was a good example of a date. A funny example of a date was shortly after from February 2013 (see my November 2013 Bangkok 54 Yelp review), where we went for dinner & then a free comedy show. Here's that experience: "My experience was on Saturday, February 9 (2013). It was a date with an awesome black chick I met a couple of weeks earlier. We had a nice time & walked next door to the Arlington Drafthouse Cinema for a free comedy show in the Green Room. Check it out if you are over at Bangkok 54 or other area restaurants on a Friday or Saturday. During the comedy show, I had my arm around her, & one of the comedians pointed out to me in the audience & said 'you are a lucky guy to be with her. I never have any luck with black chicks. This guy is doing something right. We need to talk after the show.'. This made me feel great since it was only a first date. This was confirmation that the date went extremely well. However, we could never schedule a 2nd date. She later told me that she didn't feel the chemistry...at least she was honest, but after all that, I thought for sure it was an excellent date." Also, went here on another date in June 2016 & saw Zootopia here. My dating life was bad in 2016, & she was no exception. In January 2023, I went to a comedy show with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. I was bold talking to one of the female comedians who was local to the DC area, got one of the comedians Instagram & asked her on a date; not surprisingly no reply. Last time I went was March 2023 for Oscar party. Won a DVD in contest. Not a bad time.

Kind of an odd layout for a comedy venue but we greatly enjoyed our show and the staff was very…read moreattentive! The popcorn could use more butter, especially considering butter is $1 extra.

You must park in the garage (not in the outdoor lot or street parking). They had a machine to validate the parking ticket at the guest services counter, and we were covered for the full three hours. It was easy to find the theater. We took the escalators up and found the kiosks parked right outside the movie theater entrance. They had multiple kiosks in the hallway where you can buy your tickets and order food in advance. Once you enter the theater lobby, there's even more kiosks set-up. There was even extra lobby/lounge seating if you want to enjoy your food and drinks outside the theater. (Note: this is for the movie theater food, not your own - outside food and drinks are not allowed.) There's another bar dining area and additional theaters (9-14) on the upper level. Reclining leather seats have become the norm at most movie theaters. But LOOK raises the bar with heated seats AND buttons to adjust the headrest. We are living in the future here! But wait, there's more. They have swinging trays attached for a "movie-dinner" experience and QR codes on said seat trays to scan and have the food delivered right to your seat! You can also order at the concessions stand, but it's just not as fun (though there is an 18% service fee tacked on... call it a built-in gratuity for the door-to-door service). Brunch items are served before 2pm. They also have alcoholic beverages for that adult dining experience. We ordered popcorn and a soda and one of their brunch items - Chicken and Pancakes! The popcorn and soda were brought directly to the seats within five minutes. The chicken and pancakes came about 30 minutes later, while the movie had already started. We actually thought they had forgotten about the chicken and pancakes because there was no acknowledgment of the order being worked on when the popcorn was delivered. Several other people received their food items throughout the movie (the staff have little flashlights and will make their way to you). It can be a little distracting, but it winds down as most people will be watching the movie instead of ordering more food on their phone. People ordered pizzas, bowls, chicken tenders, burgers, etc. Instead of the movie theater smelling like popcorn, it smells like a restaurant (primarily of hot fried foods). This can make you hungry during the movie and might make you want to order more food. I was tempted to order fries during the movie, but I opted to keep my phone away and enjoy the movie. At the end of the movie, four giant trash cans were near the exits and they were overflowing. Good for the theater for making all those concession sales, and good for the audience for cleaning up after themselves. We sat in Row D and I did find the sound to be a smidge too loud. Some scenes in the movie were a little pixelated. I'm not sure if that's due to me sitting in the fourth row (too close to the screen) or if that's more on the movie studio. Restrooms were okay... generally clean, which I would hope since we were one of the first screenings of the day. I will note that the sink water pressure wasn't great and some of the sinks didn't seem to work. But overall, this is a nice movie theater experience if you're looking to indulge, kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.

My husband waited about 25 minutes for his meal before going to the counter to ask about it. He was told they were understaffed and returned to our seats. After another 25 minutes, the food still had not arrived. He went back to the counter, and they refunded only the meal he never received. In my opinion, the entire order should have been refunded because the delay significantly impacted our movie experience. My husband spent much of the beginning of the movie waiting and expecting his food, and ultimately had nothing to eat except popcorn. The bathrooms were also not well maintained. Multiple toilets were clogged and would not flush, leaving them filled with urine and toilet paper. The sinks were surrounded by water and strands of hair. In the family restroom, the toilet was continuously flushing, smelled strongly of urine, and the toilet seat was covered in dirt or some kind of buildup.
