Online ticket ordering was a breeze. There was ample parking on arrival and only a few people in line for concessions. It seemed clean, and there were lots of fountain beverage options. One thing I found interesting, was they offer ONE refill per popcorn bucket and mark your bucket. This may be new for all AMC's but isn't an experience I've ever had at the Holland 8. The seats were comfortable, but I think my foot stool was slightly broken as it didn't raise fully. The theatre did get a little chilly so I'm glad I brought something long sleeved to put on while watching, and would recommend it if you're like me and get cold easily. read more

I'm not from the area, so this theatre definitely seemed a bit older and outdated than what I am used to in a bigger city, but it seems like they have been making some gradual changes. The theatre was clean and well maintained. I didn't have any problems walking up and buying a ticket for a movie on opening weekend right before the showtime (I'm used to having to buy tickets in advance on a busy day). I bought my ticket, a small popcorn, and one cocktail for about $25. I appreciate that they had a small consessions area specifically for buying alcoholic drinks, but I wish there was a way to order another drink during the movie. Best bet for first-run movie in Muskegon... I was born and raised in Muskegon, and I've seen the Cinema Carousel grow from its humble "Cinema Six" status (back in the 1980s) to the digital-screen, stadium-style seating multiplex it is now. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii now, and I'm back in Muskegon for a quick family visit. I'll say that the first thing that really grabbed my attention for the better is the price! I'm used to playing $12+ for a first-run flick out in the Pacific Ocean. Imagine my relief to see that my prime time ticket would only be $7. The lobby is clean, bright, and inviting. The concession stand moved along quickly enough, and there's good value for your dollar: Free refills on ALL drinks (even the Icees!) and one free refill on popcorn. Plus, it's one of those theatres where YOU get to apply your own butter (and thereby control the amount you receive). There's also an actual carousel and game room, but I never spend any time there. I go to the movies to--well--watch movies. If you're there for the moviel I can't imagine you'll be terribly disappointed. It's annoying how theatres have had to resort to selling advertising in order to stay afloat, but like most theatres I've been to recently, the Cinema does honor their agreement to show no ads after the posted showtime. That means once the trailers start, you're getting no more ads (well, other than the trailers themselves--which are of course ads for upcoming movies). As far as first-run theatres go, the Cinema Carousel is on par. Nothing extravagant, but nothing shabby either. Go catch a flick and have a great time! read more

Coming from California, this theater is like seeing the Playboy mansion in the desert. Let me tell you a few of the things I took for granted while going to this theater in my younger days. 1. Cashiers that speak english (and not through bulletproof glass). 2. People that keep their fucking mouths shut during movies. 3. Concession stand workers that aren't rude and disrespectful. 4. Bathrooms that don't smell like a huge pile of dogshit. 5. Free parking 6. Close proximity to chili dogs 7. No bums in the parking lot 8. No one smoking crack and panhandling outside the entrance 9. No evidence of human fecal matter anywhere on site 10. Did I mention no talking?? I miss this place. I should fly home when Indiana Jones and Iron Man come out. read more

Thomas Wolfe was right: you can't go home again. Well, I suppose that's not true...you can go home again all you'd like; the danger is wearing your nostalgia-colored glasses on the trip. Your memories may very well craft disappointment of monumental proportions as your expectations and reality start to coalesce. Since living on the West Coast, I know that my memories are simply no match for the vastly superior offerings presented even in the smaller towns on the ol' Pacific. I'm now too used to having coffee bars, whole arcades, fresh snacks and comfortable seating. By contrast, the Carousel is not exactly what I would call state-of-the-art, and it's a shame; with the amount they are charging the good people of Muskegon for tickets, one would assume that they could easily make some upgrades. Now, Don H. makes some really valid points, which is why this theater is getting as high of a score from me as it is - the parking situation IS spectacular, though I chalk that up to being in the middle of nowhere with room to spare as opposed to a conscious effort at convenience. The theater is well-maintained, but then, so are many that I have visited here in Oregon. Hmm. All in all, the Carousel's a nice place to spend an evening, and it's necessity is pretty much academic at this point: without it, Muskegon would crumble into boredom almost overnight. read more

I had not been to the movies in quite a while, and Cinema Carousel is where I go when I get out. The last time I was there was several months ago, and in that time they have transformed the place into a bistro/cafe/cinema. I was stunned to find good food on the menu and even beer and wine. They have invested in pleasant interior renovations and seriously upped the ante on cleanliness and customer service. You are able to select your seats and they have the recliner-style chairs that make it seem like you are watching the film on your couch at home. What was once a standard theatre is now a top-shelf entertainment center, complete with a frozen yogurt shop and great group of folks providing service. read more

I'm new to Muskegon and I'm 50 so I rarely go to movies. I mean, its probably been a year since my last time and that was in Portage before we moved here. Anyway I thought the Cinema Carousel was actually very nice. I mean really nice. Very clean, new, comfortable seating, large screen. A little expensive maybe (around 8 bucks) but I guess that may just be the normal price these days. I would definitely go there again. If there were any downsides I would say it was really LOUD but I think that is normal for the kind of action movie I went to see with my son. The atmosphere and service here are great - everyone is always so friendly! The theater is always clean any time I have gone and the seats are actually not that bad (unlike many theaters.) Biggest downfall is the pricing. Both the tickets and the cost of food/drinks are way over-priced in my opinion. read more

I've always received excellent service. The theater is clean, spacious, and pleasing to look at. They have a wide assortment of snacks and foods to choose from, including a delicious frozen yogurt place. They have at least 12 theaters, all wheelchair accessible. For first-run mega hits, this is the theatre that you want to see it in. The newer screens are quite good, but it's disappointing to buy a ticket and find out it's in one of the original 2 screens, down the back hall. I agree that the biggest issue is that many really fine films never make it to Muskegon. Fortunately, the Harbor theatre is open again, and does show more films that are out of the mainstream. read more
