The spaces aren't very big, but there is plenty of room for a normal-sized vehicle. There are multiple screens, and back-to-back movies on each. The screens are plenty big, and I doubt there is a bad spot to park in the whole place. In the center of all the screens, there is a small building where you can get your popcorn, candy, and drinks, and there are also bathrooms there as well. The only downside to coming here is that it's often quite late when your movie finishes. Starting at dusk in the middle of summer when it doesn't get dark until 10 is a sticky situation. Love it - can't wait to go back!

I'm not sure about the history of the building. Like most places in this area, I suspect it was an older building that was updated. They did a great job. The building is beautiful. While waiting, you are in an open space. They have a small snack bar, there was a table of wares the group was selling, and lots of people congregating. (All wore masks except for two people.) When you do enter the theater, you find your seats. The seats were comfortable. The show started on time and the musicians and dancers did their things. The sound system was marvelous. In sum, this was a great and unexpected experience for a small town. If you find yourself in Whitehall, MI, this is not one to miss.

I, myself, once took to the stage before a full house, and let me be the first (but hopefully not the last!) to say that beneath the lights and under the gaze of your audience, there is no greater thrill than to present your learned story with all of the passion and excitement that you have been saving up to that point! I've also sat in the seats of this wonderful ninety-three year old theater and taken in several shows - the seating, stage, balcony, music pit...all of it is lovingly preserved by amazing volunteers and donors, giving it an antiquated feel that you simply cannot replicate with modern materials. This is the genuine theater experience, and White Lake has it right under their noses. Sadly, there exists no more under-appreciated landmark in all of the White Lake area than the Howmet Playhouse. Donations are constantly being collected, but it seems as though repairs are slow in coming on some occassions. While the money coming in to the Playhouse have been enough to keep it going, it is nothing short of a crime that there exists no established subsidies for its continual maintenance and care. I'm not sure if the White Lake Chamber of Commerce realizes this or not, but looking at the area from the outside, there is VERY little to keep people's attention in regard to tourism. Treasures like the Howmet are the lifeblood of the tourism trade, and more effort should be made in utilizing the playhouse in promoting unique performances that tell the story of the White Lake area. Someone in an official capacity really needs to stand up and take this wonderful building more seriously, realizing its importance in White Lake's existence. If you're in the area, I urge you to take in a show! It's more than just a nostalgic glimpse into the past for long-time residents - it's a piece of it's very history, and that history deserves respect. The Howmet is a truly entertaining venue that will transport you not only into the worlds presented on stage, but also into the past of this beautiful Michigan community.

MMOA is an overachieving art museum for a city of this size. Whoever on here said this was better than the Grand Rapids Art Museum was absolutely correct. This collection absolutely slays the Grand Rapids Art Museum. (I might even be so petty as to go back and drop them down a star.) This museum isn't an all day affair but it was perfect to while away some time in the afternoon in between a wedding down the block and the reception about a mile away my dad and I went to in July. I probably would've spent about an hour more here if I didn't have my father in tow. He moves pretty slow and I forewent my usual practice of touring a museum twice. Ordinarily I go through once taking in as much as I can, reading as many descriptions on the walls as my attention span can bear and keep my cellphone in my pocket the whole time. Then I go back through every gallery refeasting my optical orbies on highlights, looking for stuff I might have missed and snapping a bunch of photos. (If someone sees me on only the second tour they might think I'm a technology addled douchebag without much attention span though!) Anyways I would have loved the second go through here! In summer 2025 they had a special exhibit dedicated to Julia Child. I struggle to think of cooking as art but it's definitely a valuable skill - who doesn't love to eat? - and it can involve a little or a lot of creativity for sure. At any rate the special exhibit was extensive, fun and very educational. I knew very little of Julia Child and I learned a lot more. They even had a picture and description of Dan Akroyd playing her in a particularly brutal SNL skit! I learned she loved the sketch and showed it to friends at parties which I think is pretty awesome.

I recently saw a post on Facebook from a local news outlet that the Muskegon Museum of Art had an…read moreexhibit of some of the costumes from the show Downton Abbey, so I made a plan to check it out with Nate while in the area camping. We arrived about 45 minutes before they closed and got in to the museum right away. I would say that this museum is small but mighty, with plenty to see packed into a tidy footprint. The Downton Abbey exhibit was cool to experience, although I wish it had some more interactive elements. The costumes are so detailed and ornate, and it was fun to see them up close. The rest of the gallery was interesting, with all kinds of art from traditional to more modern. I especially loved the Measure Twice: Sculptures of Ted Lott exhibit, with ornate building-like structures built into household items like side tables, chairs, and vintage suitcases. I don't think I'd come here every time I'm in Muskegon, but it was a fun stop while we were in town and I'm glad we went!

They also distill liquor, so I enjoyed a vodka lemonade. Their vodka was smooth . They offer food and you order at the food counter. Per the recommendation of the chef we tried the taco pizza. It was excellent. He explained they make their own salsa, season the meat and dough. The pizza was topped with crushed tortilla chips. The blend of flavors and fresh salsa was very good. There are plenty of seating options and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Must visit museum! Especially for WWII buffs…read more We visited on a Saturday. It was not crowded at all. We spent most of the time on the submarine alone, so we did not feel rushed or cramped. The submarine was very cool and looked fairly untouched! I would have liked to have seen the second deck where the periscope is. The museum balanced information on WW2 as well as the progression of submarine technology (all the way from da Vinci). As someone who is interested in WWII, I did notice that the timeline regarding Pearl Harbor did miss some vital information. You need 3-4 hours to thoroughly enjoy the museum.

Nice flow in the museum through the exhibits, including a few exhibits geared toward children. Nice diversity of exhibits. Good proximity to downtown, restaurants, parks, public art and cultural items. The minuses: I'm going to lay this directly on the young woman in the gift shop and the staff. She seemed to be put out by taking my entrance fee. Unhelpful when I was shopping in the gift shop. And when I asked if the historic Hackley/Hume homes were within walking distance, she said curtly: YES. Wow. How about, "it's one block to the left, then turn right and go down one block, it'll be on the right hand side but I'm sorry but those museums are closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays." Also, while walking through the museum there seemed to be a lot of staff milling about in the hallway, discussing a recent social event. They obstructed the traffic flow and I pinged about like pac-man on a race trying to navigate the museum. No one asked if I had any questions or offered to show me around so rather consider this a museum "visit", I'd call it a "half-visit" since I could have gotten so much more from my visit. I'm a professional tour guide, I've worked in museums in four major cities and I've never found this level of indifference anywhere. It's so sad, this museum has the potential to be so much more but without the assistance of the help, it will never be what it could be.

The amazing part of the barn is that each house decorated the building to match their house, one barn to houses. Of all the historic sites that I have been to, I can't remember a setup quite like that. They only do guided tours which is good because they have a ton of information to pass along. Plus any question that one might have the tour guides can answer. The wood carvings and stained glass inside the homes were absolutely incredible to see.
