Finally made it out to the Getty Drive-In and had a great time! Made sure to arrive with plenty of time, which wasn't a problem for our movie. But if you're seeing a kids film, it's worth coming early to get a good spot. I highly recommend either bringing a vehicle with a big back (truck, van, etc.) or some lawn chairs so you get the full experience. Also worth investing in a portable radio if you don't want to leave your car running the whole time. Really glad it was dog friendly, so it made for a great family night. This place rocks! I love that there is a drive-in theater in West Michigan. It is everything that you dreamed of and more. First off, you get to pick where you want to park. The spaces aren't very big, but there is plenty of room for a normal-sized vehicle. There are multiple screens, and back-to-back movies on each. The screens are plenty big, and I doubt there is a bad spot to park in the whole place. In the center of all the screens, there is a small building where you can get your popcorn, candy, and drinks, and there are also bathrooms there as well. The only downside to coming here is that it's often quite late when your movie finishes. Starting at dusk in the middle of summer when it doesn't get dark until 10 is a sticky situation. BUILDING MEMORIES .. My earliest memory of going to the Getty Drive-In was when my parents took us 4 kids to see Gone With the Wind. We played on the playground, but fell asleep during the movie. When we got home my dad carried us one by one into the house. I was the last one, and was awake, but pretended to be asleep because I wanted my dad to carry me. Now we can watch movies many ways, but the drive-in creates memories. read more

I am a sucker of movies, the outdoors, and some quality time with family or loved ones. This hidden little gem (the only drive-in around I know of) sitting just outside of Muskegon is the perfect answer to all those wants. You get in for just over ten bucks a person and you get a double feature in return, I recommend showing up an hour or so after gate opening to make sure you get good parking/viewing, but aside from that there's nothing else to do but kick back, get comfy, tune the radio and enjoy. One of the best things about Muskegon beside the beach. Four screens, multiple popular movies, good food and warm weather. Can't get better than that! Prices are reasonable. Had such a blast and very nostalgic for those who grew up with drive ins. read more

This was a first for me. I've never been to a Drive-In. The Getty has four screens. You drive down the aisles and pull in an empty spot. They built small hills so your car will be in an upward angle to watch the Movie. You then turn your radio to a specific radio station to listen to the movie. They don't have speakers anymore. This seemed silly before the movie, but it works. I extremely enjoyed the experience. The fact you get to see 2 movies for the price of 1 is just icing on the cake. Just an fyi when you get into position, Turn Off your automatic head lights. That was when you turn on your car to either charge your battery or run the air you don't blind and annoy people. Also if you leave during movie, then leave lights off till you leave the screen area. The only negative is the concession stand is antiquated. Tear it down and rebuild. Overall this was an easy 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely! Also just an idea Celebration Cinema,   create an app to listen to movie on your phone. You can GPS enable it. read more

Wanted to share a memorable summer experience with the kids by taking them to the Drive -In. It was memorable all right, but not in the way we hoped. This place is in absolutely sad shape. While everyone working was pleasant enough, the facility is very run down. The kids playground is do dilapidated it would be funny if not so sad. Broken play equipment, trash in the parking area and the entire place REEKED of smoke (both the legal and illegal varieties) We went on a Tuesday and took advantage of the discounted night (adults $7.50, kids $5) and we stayed for both features. Our speaker worked but the radio station kept fading in and out. The kids did enjoy (that got to stay up till 2am!) it but it's pretty clear that this theater is living on borrowed time. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we finally decided to check out this drive in theater. I'm so glad we did! It was the perfect blend of camping and going to the movies. It would be nice if the sound were available on an app so that we didn't have to keep our car's engine running during the entire show. It would also be nice if there were an entrance lane exclusively for pre-purchased tickets that moved more quickly. Those minor inconveniences aside, we enjoyed our evening. The parking spaces are generous. We were able to set up camp chairs and small side tables for our snacks (you're allowed to bring in your own). Being outdoors, there is less disruption during the movie from neighbors. We didn't notice any bugs, which was a welcome surprise. I would gladly return to the Getty Drive-in even after regular indoor theaters re-open. It was fun to watch the movie under the stars. read more

This is an awesome place to enjoy movies with your significant other or friends or family. They also allow dogs. The tickets were that expensive either for two movies. And we did bring our own snacks in our car. They do have concession there with pizza and nachos. Don't expect great food, it's like high school cafeteria quality. We didn't have any issues with the radio station either. The place itself was clean. Since it's part of the celebration cinema group, you can also take your popcorn bucket there. A thoroughly enjoyable slice of Americana! Having moved to America recently from Ireland I've always wanted to do is go to a drive-in movie theatre. It's a pure American experience. We arrived at the Getty Drive In cinema early, there was quite a que of cars already waiting to get in. The Drive-in has four screens and were doing 4 double bills, and at $18 it's cheaper for two movies here than 1 in the regular movie theatres. We drive slowly up to our screen and line up beside one of the old fashioned speakers that you hang by your open window. You also have the option of tuning into a designated radio channel for sound. The frequency is on the ticket (careful if you use your radio it can drain your battery, but there is an announcement to say staff are available to jump your car if needs be. The area is very clean and there is a very cool (albeit very expensive) concession stand full with arcade games if the smaller ones get bored of the movies. All the staff are nice and friendly. It's a lovely atmosphere as I take snap-shots of my bucket of popcorn on my dashboard looking out to our screen. Some people have come well prepared, bringing lawn chairs and take-away pizza. Others open the back of their vans and trucks and lay back. I take more snaps of the beautiful sunset happening just behind one of the outdoor screens. There's an announcement about having your lights off, not allowing barbecues or grills and to respect the people parked around you by not having the sound too loud. Our choice of movies isn't good but that doesn't take away from the how much I am enjoying this. Neither does the fact the couple in the car beside us suddenly have no clothes on halfway through the first movie!! And I'm guessing they're smoking a lot of silly stuff too from the amount of times I hear the lighter click and the puffs of smoke coming from their car.Oookkaayy....We leave the 2nd movie early as it's not good and we're a little worried about the nudey couple's ability to drive. It adds to the mystique of the event however. OK apart from some strange carry on by our neighbouring car (it should be said the car on the other side of us and everyone in front of us seemed perfectly behaved!) and the price concession stand, I really had a great night. Be warned movies only begin at dusk and we left at midnight with still an hour to go in our second movie, so a late night is to be expected. But a fun night and I would go again, though I'll bring my own snacks! Perfect for a date preferably with your clothes!! read more

If you're ever in the area, you better check out the Getty Drive In Theatre. These things just aren't around anymore and I sure don't see them building more in the future... at least not any time soon. This place is one of the hidden gems of Michigan and, especially, the Muskegon area. While Muskegon itself is not the cream of the crop when it comes to west Michigan, this drive in is placed in any even sketchier part of Muskegon. Have no fear though, I've never had a single bad thing happen to me while I was there. Although the restrooms do kind of strike me as something out of a horror movie. I believe prices are somewhere near $10 a person, which is about what you'd pay at a regular movie theatre. This one, though, lets you bring in your own food, your own drinks, and you can even chill with your pets there! Feel like talking during the middle of the movie? That's absolutely fine, because the only other people who can really hear you are in the car with you... don't worry about bothering other patrons. It's like the ultimate movie going experience - you can even make out with your date without getting popcorn thrown at you. All these benefits and I almost forgot to mention, you get to see TWO movies for that price. Now that's a steal. Screen quality is not always the best, but whatever. It's an experience in itself and I don't think it ultimately detracts from my enjoyment of the movies or the great time I'm having. Forget your fancy surround sound here, because it's provided by tuning into the appropriate FM station within your car to pick up movies in mind-blowing STEREO sound. This is a bit of a trek for me to make it out to watch a movie, but it's just so damn cool I must do it at least once a month. The Getty is something that needs to be preserved and I think it'll stick around for a long time. If y'all haven't been there already, you should definitely check it out as it's not an everyday thing anymore - and definitely worth the experience and money it costs to visit. Do I wanna catch every new flick here? Definitely not, but it's great for the occasional fun movie (like the Three Stooges) or something to take your kids out to... or just a neat date. There is just something so romantic about a drive-in movie! My husband and I (and our dog) made the trip out to enjoy a little nostalgic fun and we were not disappointed. Some tips to make it more enjoyable... 1. Bring blankets/pillows/chairs - it's great to be comfortable and the double feature starts really late 2. Bring a radio if your car battery is not the greatest (although the staff will jump your car if it dies) 3. Don't rely on the speakers to work for sound, so bring a small radio. Some of them do work if you would rather use the speaker and not deplete your car battery by using the radio. Love that a there's still a drive-in located in the west michigan area. Always worth the drive when it's nice weather to set up a chair, pop open the hatch, or hang out in the truck bed. Not sure if you "can" bring in outside food/drink, but you definitely can. Alcohol isn't allowed but there's obviously ways around that, like not having it in the open. Dogs are allowed and we've done so on a few occasions. There's an arcade by the concessions and some run down bathrooms with the old school, super close urinals. So yes, it's got the type of vintage charm that you only get by being old. read more

This needs to be preserved ..... And kept upgraded -even the concession stand w healthier hot and cold foods....should attract even more business..... Two movies for the price of one! It's a fun way to watch movies too! One time we went though, the radio station signal in our car for one movie did not work. So we had to rent a tiny portable radio from the staff and missed half the movie trying to find a radio in the first place, so that was disappointing. The other obnoxious thing that occurs often here is people driving around with their headlights on. I know it's not Getty Drive In's fault for this, but it does put a damper on the experience. Other than that, it's fun, and if you have sub woofers in your car, it makes the movie experience way more awesome! All around a great place to catch 2 movies for the price of one! read more

This sure brings back memories! I only wish we had a station wagon to lie in the back of, like when I was a kid (in the late 60s/early 70s). With the exception of higher prices, it's very reminiscent of those early years. It was very unpleasant! The man in the Projection room kept towering over me and raising his voice after I asked for help or a refund because we could not hear the movie. We tried looking for radio apps because we couldn't listen to the movie with their tiny 5 inch radios with horrible static and worse audio quality then an ordinary smart phone. He was very rude and short tempered. He was very condescending about us not having a radio that worked in our car. We weren't aware we had to tune into a radio station in order to listen to the movie. Now we know for the future, awesome! But, I think they could have had way better customer service or systems in place to provide audio for their movies. read more

Nostalgia can only take you so far. This drive in is in very poor shape and is in a sad state of decay. Loeks Theaters is only doing the bare minimum to keep it going and only "fixing" things when they literally collapse. Their main screen was severely damaged many years ago due to a windstorm. Their fix was to replace the screen surface with corrugated sheet metal. It looks like you are watching a movie projected onto the side of a pole barn. Then their rusted out marquee sign with half the bulbs busted out fell apart in another storm. They only fixed the the part of the sign that contains the marquee lettering.. The classic neon sign over the ticket booth is long gone. Loeks cares absolutely nothing about historical preservation. Believe it or not if you want good sound, you have to use the metal window speakers. The FM sound was completely misadjusted and distorted on all 4 screens. I've tried using different radios, no dice. Not all parking spots have the speakers. The concession stand has survived the best. Although at the prices they charge, you won't want to go to it. read more

I haven't been to many drive ins (in fact, I've only been to this one) so I can't really say whether or not they've changed up the standard at all but I thoroughly enjoy this one. Don't even bother with the snack/arcade area. It's even more over-priced than other Celebration Cinema theaters around. I went with a friend and they had this little 'buy one get one free' special and since we only had a few bucks on us we pooled together and got that. In the time it took us to get back to the car and start it up an employee came over the speaker saying that the concession stand was closing and that they were now offering 'buy one get two free'. I was a little bitter about that but I can get over it considering that it was definitely our wrong for not just stopping for some food along the way. They have four screens and the movies start about fifteen minutes after sunset. The second movie is usually the older/worse one. All of the employees I've encountered are really nice and even try to spark up conversation. The only downside is the women's bathroom. It seems slightly dangerous and scary at times because it's outside and, well, dark. All in all, at least check it out once. It's a nice change. Just make sure you bring cash. read more

This is so cool! It's awesome that we still have a drive in in Muskegon. It's so much fun and the price is right!! Two movies for the price of one :) And they have bargain nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays I think. I'm of age but I love how easy it is to see an R-rated film (and sneak food in!!) One of my favorite things to do during the summer. Two movies for five bucks on tuesdays! A great alternative to the ever rising ticket prices of celebration cinema. Though they are now owned by celebration cinema and ticket prices are the same you at least get two movies for the price of one. If you have a popcorn bucket it can be used here as well. Beware! The movies run late, especially if you stay for the second one so if you're not a Muskegon native you can get home pretty late. For the last couple years when on a family vacation in my home town, we schedule a night for the drive in....the first year we went it was for the Jimmy Buffet telecast, this year we went on the 2 for Tuesdays. There's nothing like sitting outside, spending time with family, and watching a movie. It's great that you bring food in, and we do, but the popcorn there is great! I always find myself here on Tuesday nights.That is the bargain night where you can catch 2 movies for only 5 bucks.That's right,2 FOR $5!I know it's a random night in the week but you really can't beat that deal.Then the fact that you can bring your own snacks is phenomenal.Perfect set up is to bring a bag of chips and candies along with you.Then go to a Speedway and get a large sized slurpee. Then top it off with a Scrib's pizza and take all of these things to the drive in with you.Makes for a awesome night!
