Michelle was very patient while working on my hair. I went in hoping they could help with my sensitive scalp, and after two weeks I can already see improvement. Manny was also very professional and provided thoughtful feedback during the scalp treatment and haircut. One note: the street meters have a two-hour limit, so it's better to park in the building. DO NOT GO THERE. It's not only a waste of your time and money, it is a disaster. The student made a stupid mistake that can not be fixed, and the instructor jumped in to accuse me of "giving the student dirty looks". I have to carry this look for couple of months and they didn't do anything to make up for it. They didn't even apologize on the spot. The stupid mistake was: I showed them a picture of bangs to the brows and the student cut it super short. It's a mistake even an untrained person wouldn't make. This was a horrible experience. I drove 30 minutes to get here, showed up on time, followed Google Maps exactly--and I can't even access into the building door I tried everything: calling (always a robot, never a real person), texting--NO ONE responded. I was literally stuck outside like an idiot for 30 minutes. Finally someone happened to open the door and I slipped in behind them, only to be told by the stylist that it was "too late" and they wouldn't take me. Seriously? I don't have time to drive another 30 minutes back here. I followed exactly the contact instructions in your text message, and still ended up being left outside waiting with no response. If there's another way to get in, why isn't that clearly stated in the confirmation email? DO NOT LET OTHERS pay the price for something that isn't their fault and waste this much of time. I had a balayage appt with Rowan Fox and she did a great job. This was apparently her first time doing it, I wanted a rich golden brown easy grow-out color and she delivered! Her supervisor, Manuel, patiently oversaw her work, explaining best next steps while making sure I knew what was going on. Overall, a great experience, I'll be back for a haircut and all over color for upkeep. read more

DO NOT GO HERE OR WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. They are very unorganized and would not trust such unorganized people with my money! I had an appmnt to tour the san jose location because ON THEIR WEBSITE it states TWICE that they offer the makeup artistry course at BOTH CA LOCATIONS. Nobody could even tell me the cost of the course and said I would find out at tour. The lady on the phone who scheduled my tour, assured me that the SJ location had the program starting in July. I showed up and the receptionist thought I was there for the barbering course, I said no, makeup. Then the Director of the school brings me in for the appointment and says "you're here for esthetician course?" I said no again, "i'm here for the makeup course" she said they don't offer that there!!! But they do at the SF location. I asked what the cost of the course was, she said she didn't have that info. The next day I got a call from the Director of the SF location, who was much more pleasant but also could not tell me the price of the course and asked if I wanted a tour. I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH THE COURSE COSTS IN ORDER TO MAKE A DECISION! AND WANT TO KNOW WHY THEY FALSELY ADVERTISE THE COURSE IN SAN JOSE (see pics directly taken from their website) at this point, its clear I WILL NOT be attending this school. Ridiculous, unorganized, false advertisement, wasting people's time and the worst part, they don't have info about the cost of the course ??????!!!!!!!!!!!! I just went to the Cinta Aveda Institute for a facial and had an amazing service from student Katie R. I went here for a facial a number of years ago and they've vastly improved the space. Each guest room is curtained off and the tables are comfortable with soft sheets and blankets. On a weekday at 2pm it was quiet, but don't expect full silence since there are other students working and only curtain dividers. Katie was thorough and did a great job achieving my skin goals while incorporating lots of relaxation through massage and aromatherapy. At $52 for a 60 minute facial, I highly recommend checking out this school and especially booking with Katie. For parking, I recommend the ParkSJ garage at San Pedro square, it's just a few minutes walk and the first 90 minutes are free, so you shouldn't have to pay if you just stay for a facial. read more

I have been going to the Aveda Institute off and on since 2017. My visit on April 14 2026 exceeded my expectation. I had a much need haircut (layered shag with fringe) and pink babylights added to my hair. Rowan my stylist listened and ask to see photos more than once, When unsure about cutting she request Manuel her instructor to assist, he always took time and never rushed when teaching. I have the best haircut easy to style, and I love my pink streaks. Rowan and Manuel get AAA+! I hope to see them both again before Rowan graduates. read more

The haircut and coloring were poorly executed, failing to meet the requested specifications. The results were unsatisfactory.

Do not recommend getting highlights here!! I asked for highlights and received a full head of blond hair. Instructor did not pay much attention to what the student was doing. I did ask for a color correction, however, I just received more blond on roots and hair. I don't recommend coloring your hair here maybe a haircut is fine. read more

Caitlin, the student stylist, did a phenomenal job with the consultation, ensuring my daughter felt comfortable and confident about the process. As a licensed cosmetologist and a mom, I know kids don't always listen to us, but Caitlin had such a professional and approachable demeanor that my daughter was completely at ease. The service was very reasonably priced, and the quality exceeded my expectations. Caitlin is truly skilled--she has a passion for creating dramatic hair transformations and it shows in her work. She's available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and she's projected to graduate in January, as she's nearing the final phase of her training. My teen got a very fresh cut with Angelina. Angelina and Dee were an amazing duo. Both very professional and engaging. I brought in a sample picture and the finished product looked better than the picture. Angelina is already off to a great start in her craft I would not think she was still learning since she was so detailed and needed minimal guidance. My teen boy who's super picky with his hair really loved his cute cut. So did his friends. The school is very clean and professional you would think you are in a high end salon. they lied multiple times about prices that ranged from $1600-$2000 just for 1000 hours. then once you are there for 5 months you can switch from 1500 to 1000 hours which is the main way they can get you to stay. my experience while getting my haircut was great with stephany but we did talk about how much the school robbed her. i do not recommend going here as a student!! Emily and her instructor gave me a fabulous cut that I'm getting compliments on all the time, even from a friend who's a stylist in Santa Cruz. (I needed it cut ASAP before an interview and I could book 9:30 Monday morning over the weekend.) My hair is challenging because it's fine, thin, and almost completely straight, but this cut gives it height and body even when I air dry it. They also brightened up my under-toned platinum blond with purple shampoo at no extra charge. Emily was ready when I checked in on time. She was careful and attentive throughout the process, and checked in with her instructors whenever she was unsure, which made me confident the entire time that I would walk away with a great haircut. One thing to note is that it takes much longer than a regular salon since students are still learning and instructors would step in occasionally. A reservation slot is 1 hour 45 minutes but my appointment lasted over 2 hours. I didn't mind since I wasn't in a rush, but it's worth keeping in mind if you're on a tight schedule. read more
