The Barber Academy certificate of completion

If you're considering enrolling in a barber school, I highly recommend The Barber Academy in San Jose. The experience has been nothing short of amazing, and it has provided me with the skills and confidence I needed to succeed in this profession. There are a bunch of walkins to practice on ! A special shout-out to my instructor, Chris. He truly stands out as one of the best teachers I've had. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, but his passion for the craft and dedication to his students is unmatched. Chris creates an engaging learning environment, offering individualized feedback and making sure every student feels supported. He's patient, approachable, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that we all understand the material and excel in our practice. Kev and Steph are great instructors as well always willing to share their knowledge and experience so that we can apply them to our haircuts. Thanks to The Barber Academy , I feel fully prepared to step into the world of barbering, and I couldn't have asked for better mentors. If you're looking to hone your skills and learn the trade of barbering I would definitely check out The Barber Academy in SJ.

Came at opening 10am on Saturday and all barbers were already taken. Super small parking lot in the back with a few spots were also filled. The wait was 35-45min as a walk in. You can also make an appointment but it would be barber specific. Most haircuts average at least 30min to cut from what I observed and mine took 1hr+ which is understandable as these are students. My barber was really easy to work with and the cut turned out 7/10. For $5 before tip, this is well worth it if you have time or luck out on getting a good barber and just making appointments with them in the future.

Mondo in the cuts gave me a fungus from his clippers it started in my neck the. Started spreading through my body

Came in with some inspo pics (Hudson Williams, 90s Keanu, Jackie Chan shag vibes). Rich was very patient and knowledgeable, he indulged my questions about everything. We made a game plan on how to trim and layer my hair and what I was going for. I LOVE THE RESULTS. It's literally the kind of style I want to effortlessly have but can rarely achieve bc mi hair soy super Asian (kapow!). I'm so glad I did it (finally) and looking forward to enjoying it. Highly recommend!

It all started with a cold call to the shop / getting an appointment with JJ back in 2018, in which turned into entrusting him with cutting my hair since. This is THE guy, let me tell you. JJ is the most laid-back, coolest, most sincere barber I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I truly look forward to every appointment I have to get freshened up / vent / chat with him. My dude has been with me through thick and thin, life and hair literally. From weekly buzz-cuts to now bi-weekly scissor-cuts, he has always gone above and beyond to make my experience the best it can be. If you are looking for a barber in San Jose, please, look no further and book an appointment with JJ ASAP! You will not be disappointed with the exceptional service you receive. I have medium-long hair and specifically requested a scissor cut. I explained that I only wanted my current style lightly trimmed and layered to remove some bulk and make it easier to style. During the appointment, the barber had his child with him and seemed fairly distracted, taking multiple breaks to tend to them. I tried to be understanding, but it definitely affected the focus of the cut. At one point I asked for just a small amount taken off the back since it was slightly longer near my neck. Unfortunately, too much was cut, and I was told more would need to come off the top to make it look uniform. More was then taken off the sides as well, again much more than expected. The end result is very uneven and honestly looks like a botched mullet. I normally never leave negative reviews, but this experience has been really frustrating. I've been wearing a hat because no amount of styling has helped, and now I'm basically waiting for it to grow back. It's unfortunate because I came in hoping to simply clean up my existing style.

I showed him my reference pictures (loose flowy perm for middle part) and style (wolfcut) that I was hoping to achieve. He said we could achieve something similar to the pictures that I showed. I mentioned that I had processed hair on the back of my head and questioned how to proceed from that. He told me initially the perm wouldn't look right if he didn't my entire head so I agreed to proceed given the possibility that the perm may fry the back of my head. He also mentioned to me that I needed a haircut to which I asked him if I could add it on as I assumed I would be able like most of the other salons/barbers that I have been to before. He told me he couldn't as he was booked. He begins to perm my hair and talks to another colleague and mentions he going to avoid my processed hair. We finish the perm and he washes the solution out of my hair and shows me my hair. It's significantly curlier and different than what I expected. But didn't look too bad because it was still wet. I didn't want to say anything because I hoped once my hair dried, the perm would look less curly as it has in the past and I didn't want to say anything since I waited over a month to book this appointment. I had paid previously and tipped 20% during the booking of it. As I drive home, I noticed my hair looking more and more poofy on the sides--almost like those kids who grow out their hair/surfer hair. Once I get home, my hair is a lot more dry now and I noticed that the sides were all sticking out horizontally like a fish hook. I showed my girlfriend who told me that this was the worst thing she's ever seen. The sides were totally messed up and the back looked horrible. I ended up going to another salon that evening because I was in shock of how bad the perm turned out. I asked the stylist there if there was any way to layer and fix it, to which they informed they couldn't as the perm rods were not placed appropriately for a middle part and said the only way to fix it was it cut off. Given how bad the perm turned out, I opted to cut it off. I mentioned all of this to my barber the next day on his social and he didn't even seem to care. He told me I should've had my hair layered before the perm and that my hair looked weird because he didn't perm the processed hair. As a customer who showed him the reference picture, if he didn't believe he could achieve the results without layering my hair/didn't believe he could achieve it then why go through with at all. I would've skipped the perm or only done a haircut if that's what he believed was achievable from the reference picture. Even from the picture of the back I sent him, he could tell that the perm looked bad but let me walk out of the shop without even trying to fix it. I already paid/tipped beforehand so there's no incentive to fix a bad service because you're just an invoice at this point. The customer service at this places isn't good. If you gave someone a really bad perm/service and don't care about your mistake or don't care to offer ways to assist your client, it just shows you that you're just a dollar sign to them.
