Cinépolis - In the mall, just west of the 307. Far from the tourist throngs! (...but bring a jacket. . the AC is set to sub-zero!)

What a treat! Less than a mile from our AirBnB lodging, this complex is at a local mall. The…read morestreets are safe and so it is an easy walk to and from, even after dark. The theater itself is state of the art ... all digital, the latest sound system, etc. I was surprised that you could even select your seats at the ticket counter, not unlike your seat on an airplane. The only negative? Climate control! The AC was set low enough to be uncomfortable without a light jacket or sweatshirt. Overall a wonderful experience. We'll go back (with our jackets)!

It gets incredibly CROWDED, which is no surprise and it's recommended that tickets be purchased ahead of time at the self-purchase machines. They also offer reserved seating, which is super convenient. The theater is impeccably clean, and comfortable, temperature just right and priced right. Lots of cool specials with their fan cards, and a large snack bar with lots of choices. My only problem was the enormous wait on line to enter , and purchase at the snack bar. Also the ladies room smelled a bit funky. But on a Saturday afternoon with the amount of people, I'm not surprised. The staff were also super friendly and helpful. In fact with my poor Spanish, when I tried to ask a question the young lady was so sweet that she located another staff member, fluent in English to assist. She also let me know where she was going to be if I needed anything else. Honestly getting spoiled by the kindnesses here!

This is such a belated review. I went TWO years ago! I had an Excellent experience with Ellie. I thought the illusions were so much fun! The cake was incredible; it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the exhibit. This is especially good for people who like to pose for pictures or those of us who like to challenge ourselves to like the process. We (the photographer and I) had the entire place to ourselves, so we took a stroll around. I could see that if there were more people, we'd have to be strategic about where to start. It's a good time if you're in Playa and want to spend a little time in a museum.

Once inside we paid at a tiny kiosk then they takes you to the entrance. Once inside the museum you wait in a theatre for your guide collect you and to explain the art and take pictures for you. You will be given special sockets to wear as to not damage the art on the floor. The museum takes the top floor of the building. Amazing what you see through the lens of your camera. The building use to be a cinema and has been converted to a museum, Well worth a visit. The artist use to live in Playa Del Carmen, now lives in Italy. It's hard to explain it's a must see on your bucket list. To see the illusions through the lens of your camera or smartphone. We were there when the museum first opened so we had the whole place to ourselves.

Let's start with the staff's rude behavior. The "swim" with dolphins is NOT worth it, there's…read moreliterally no swimming, you spend most of the time on the ledge. Get the "encounter" package if you must. They do not allow personal photography. They want to charge you $43 for 1 picture of 1 person only. For 2 people it's $179. Lockers are $16 and towels are $9 to rent. The food and drinks that is included is the worst, i ordered fajitas and it was bland chicken, with a tablespoon of beans, 3 tablespoons of rice and 3 mini tortilla chips. The drinks are the worst thing i have ever tasted, they splash the bottom of the cup with whatever cheap liquor and top with the cheapest juice like for example mango juice you can imagine. Stick with water or fountain soda. Overall, you will spend hundreds of dollars to touch a dolphin and have nothing to show for which to me is the saddest part Not to mention the 10 dolphins swimming simultaneously is small pools while countless of groups get in to touch them. Again there is NO SWIMMING. They let you pet the dolphins and they give you a kiss on the cheek and that's it.

While in Cozumel, we booked a tequila mixology experience that was offered by Dolphinaris. While…read morethe experience itself was fun and entertaining, it was held in an area immediately above a very small wading pool where 5 dolphins were swimming. Five. It's easy to think how wonderful this might be, paired with this cocktail class, but as hours passed by and you watched 5 dolphins swim aimlessly in circle, it began to feel heartbreaking. The "pool" wasn't large enough to allow them room to swim, let alone live. The pool was barren of any enrichment and was concrete and not clear. It tainted the entire day and certainly the mixology experience. As I write this now, those 5 dolphins are still there, swimming in circles and will be there from each day moving forward. No change, no room to explore new things, nothing. When I asked about them, staff were quick to tell me that they'd "die if we released them" but offered no comments on their well being, how they were cared for, and how they were fairing. They took 28 total dolphins from the ocean and if you've ever seen this happen, you'd be hard pressed to support any organization who knowingly took these animals captive. We were told that if there were paying groups that were there for the dolphins, we'd "get to see them do tricks." Otherwise, no staff interacted with them and there they were, swimming in circles. This is trafficking. Dolphinaris, shame on you.
