It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.

When we arrived to park, however, we saw signs advertising a fall festival right next to the park. It was $8 entry. We were immediately greeted with a huge pumpkin patch, with awesome views of the rocks. We got to see a number of animals, watch living history demonstrations, enjoy live music, as well as have some great snacks and drinks. This was the perfect way to have a leisurely stroll and enjoy the views while also learning local history. Would recommend to both adults and children alike.

Other reviews talk about a great place to bring the family in the summertime, and it's a cool piece of history since it's a working ranch that belonged to Palmers sister in the 1900s, but I'm here to talk about the beautiful and scenic trails right at the base of Garden of the Gods. This is the trailhead and lots of people bring their dogs to go on or off leash as well as being a popular path for bicyclists. The base of the trail has an off leash dog area and I have been told that there is another one inside the park, which is awesome, though I didn't explore it today. There are very easy trails to walk along and feel like you're in nature and you are right at the bottom of the Garden of the Gods rock formations.

We explained we just needed to shower and change after our bike tour, they wouldn't do it. Because of this, we will never come back here. the other guests here are chaotic. I was in the middle of checking in and a drunk woman interrupted us to claim her purse had been stolen. It wasn't. The guy had it at lost and found. Guests walking around talking loudly on speaker phone. the infinity pool gets so much hype, but it wasn't that amazing. And it says it's heated year round but the water still felt cold?

Our flight got delayed over eight hours, but luckily this resort allows you to check in until 2 AM. I forgot his name, but the concierge at the front desk was very nice and so accommodating both over the phone and when we met him in person when we were checking in. The place also has a really cool gem, which is a little bit of a walk down the way, but it is free for resort guests. I included a video of the gym, which is pretty legit and really cool. We ate at the restaurant where we were seated outside and the service was OK. Our server was very nice and understandably. It was very busy. The king bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in, and we loved having a balcony overlooking the lake, golf course, and mountains. The room had plenty of storage, a nice workspace, and a large jetted soaking tub. The resort itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and pet friendly, which was a huge plus since we travel with our dog. One thing to know before you arrive: the guest rooms are not located in the main lobby building. We didn't realize this and brought all of our luggage inside to check in before noticing the sign. Fortunately, our building was right next door, and the employee who checked us in kindly offered to help carry our luggage since there are no elevators. That level of customer service was much appreciated. A couple of things kept this from being a 5-star stay. The shower is inside the oversized soaking tub, so you have to climb in and out every time you shower. It wasn't the most practical setup, especially for anyone with mobility concerns. The air conditioner was also fairly loud when it kicked on, although it kept the room nice and cool. There was plenty of convenient parking near our building, but I was disappointed that self-parking is an additional charge. Overall, this is a beautiful resort with comfortable rooms, stunning views, and friendly staff. If you don't mind the extra parking fee and the tub/shower setup, it's a great place to stay while visiting Colorado Springs.
