I've never bought frozen food here that wasn't so over frozen and freezer burnt that I was able to cook it. All of their freezers are so crap. Some leak constantly or don't have a good seal on the doors, so they just crank them all up. So some things are not cold enough and everything else so cold that it is ruined before you bring it home. And from how the other reviews look, I doubt I could ever get a refund with jumping through a million hoops or straight up just getting told no. The produce is covered in flies and I've found myself buying extra because I know I'll be disappointed in quality once I get home and cut into it. Some prices are a little better than the grocery stores near my house, but I've thrown away so much money shopping here. They promote it as they "classic" or "historic" Circle Food Store, but it's obvious Sidney Torres doesn't care about preserving whatever importance this store once held. It's dirty all over. I'd never buy meat or fish from the butcher. The amount of flies and bugs in produce travel over to the meat department and land on the fresh food in the display chases. So only shop here if you don't need anything fresh or frozen. And even then check the dates on whatever you buy. I feel like I'm throwing away money when I shop here. Good selection, Good parking, Large items available, not just small or tiny portions of staples: rice, tissue, water, laundry soap. Like the cashiers and stock peeps. Helpful and honest! read more

The circle jerk! This is by way the nicest grocery type store your gonna find in the area . We were visiting from outta town . Now they don't have everything but they have enough . We were mostly there for alcohol but I should have did my food items there .I didn't know any better and found savalot first . Savalot is like third world country status .. they had nothing . I'm not sure how I can get one smal meal for 2 people, and a couple of basic essentials and its almost a hundred dollars every single time, there are 2 reasons I think for this, one is obvious the prices are often nearly double that of anywhere else, in addition, if you check your receipt you'll notice that sale prices are rarely if ever reflected, and if you dont find one or two things out of 10 that are even MORE than the already outrageous sticker prices , ill eat my overpriced hat. The only thing thats ever reasonable is meat, because they must have a deal with the distributor where they only buy the oldest and closest to expiring meat that they probably CANT sell to anyone else, for next to nothing, and charge prices that seem reasonable, thus still making an astronomical profit on what would otherwise be garbage.. let's talk about service, the good, the bad and the ugly. The good is the chicks at the register are fairly pleasant and patient, the bad is that angry little guy who treats you like he's your boss even though, well you know, whenever he's forced to work the register, and considering English doesn't even seem to be his 3rd language, im sure its an Arduous Task! Even 2000 miles and 15 years away, I still work it in whenever possible. That being said, you don't have to be so suurly and. Standoffish about it literally every time, and I always seem to pay the most when he's on, im sure he just has random buttons and rings in arbitrary charges. Just to be complete, let's go back and all the meat the ugly.. All in all, im the most anti corporate, small business supporter you'll ever meet, but we are getting to the point where I'd RATHER go to the dollar general market down the street(to understand why that is important, read my review of that place, it is solid f*cking gold.)`oh one more good. The umm general manager guy(I assume) is very nice, often having to scold the little guy, sad to say, this space would be better utilized by a couple franchises, such as Randy Randy's Rectal roto rooter:plumbing and high colonics for t h e undiscerning slob 2 for $29.95! While still leaving room for a "yerd'me? New orleans made hearing aids" kiosk and a couple mandatory suicide booths. Now that is getting good use of space. Sadly your money is better spent on cold gas station boiled peanuts which are a far better value. Bone appetite! read more

A week ago, I decided to do my shopping at the Historic Circle Food Store, not only was it a good decision, but it turned out to be a great decision. I know what Alice felt like when she walked into Wonderland, my eyes couldn't spread any wider than they did. OH MY GOD! There were baskets ready for you to start the trip around the store. There was everything you could ever need, down to chips and pickles. Everything you need for Naw'lins style gumbo. Everything for po'boys and every Saugages snd cheeses you could think of, meats of all sorts and poultry. There's everything for baby's needs, there's a pharmacy, there's libations that start at the low end and all that you need at the high end. I didn't have enough legs and arms to get it all. The meat dept was great, I was waited on by Shawn ( I call him green-mile) what a kind giant! On my way home I couldn't wait to taste the cold cuts, you may have noticed me at the light signal gobbling down the deliciousness and freshness of my purchase. The store has lighting to die for, you know some of us have sight like Mr. MaGoo, whaat you say! The isles and shelves are fully stocked. All the departments are stocked in order. There are great sales within the store and and a flyer at the door. The patrons are diverse and friendly with each other. I also met Georgo who is readily very available to see that your needs are met and there's also Meg at the checkout, fast and accurate. It's almost as though Circle Food Mart went around the city asking everyone what they' wanted in the store. Did I mention fresh fish and shrimp whaaaaaat, oh no, c'mon nah, I'm tellling you Nat'ully naw'lins. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. There's also parking and help with that load of groceries as I needed when leaving. Y'all know from my history I won't let you down. Oh ! And the prices are grrrrrrrrrreat! Not like Circle of old, buuuuuuuut glad it's back!!!! Circle often imitated for example Circle H or Circle K... Really #whatthewhat!?!?? But never duplicated; because Circle is an original, a staple, a landmark in the Community & New Orleans at large. Washed out by Hurricane Katrina & recently renovated & re-opened January 2014; Circle Food Store is open for business. Journeying in the store, I was filled with emotions & anticipation of what would fill my eyes upon entry. Different from preKatrina Circle, the space seems smaller, maybe it because it's more organized & detailed, but whatever the reason, #ilikeit. Streamlined check out lanes, a dedicated side counter/bill paying area that appears to handle a barrage of functions; did I see kids toys over yonder? Walking in there's security in place, gives a good feeling. The produce is square front & center; how sweet is that, that helps to encourage #healthyeating. Further back are upright refrigerated units & then to the rear is the meat/deli area. I must admit, the meat/deli area was a little lackluster, but oh well. When I initially walked in, I thought it to be likened to a mini-whole foods store; I only mention it for the sake of comparison. But after perusing the store, that feeling fled & Circle took on and identity of its own. I did notice that the price points were quite moderate. Great for the area. Lots of foot traffic on this day I entered & that's great!!!! I'm glad this facility has been reopened to service the community's grocery need My one wish is to see Easter Baskets lining the exterior perimeter of the store like days of old. read more

I often go out of my way to shop at the Circle Store, because it's important to me to support it. It has a hard time staying in business & is on its 2nd set of owners in the past about 5 years, after standing empty for many. I love the building & its history. I like that it supplies a struggling neighborhood with a fairly wide range of groceries, while employing some locals too. It doesn't have everything I need. It's not a Whole Foods. But it has the basics along w a reasonable produce section, assortment of oat/soy/almond milk & good meat department. Great neighborhood grocery store with impressive vegetable and meat options. #shoplocal I find myself stopping here when I'm heading home from downtown out of pure convenience, but I'm always happy I do. Circle Foods is a New Orleans establishment that has been open for many years. It is an important business to the Treme District as a whole. Their vegetable selection is quite impressive for a smaller grocery store. You can find any vegetable and most fruits that you would find at any other chain grocery store. Many of the items are on par, if not better in price too. I've also found the vegetables to be fresher here. Much of the same can be said of their meat department too. You will find an assortment of types and cuts that might be harder to find at Walmart or Winn Dixie. They will also cut to specifications you have. I have faint memories of this place as a kid; my mother and great-aunt Emelda went on day-long grocery sojourns with all the kids in tow and this place was definitely on the rotation. Today! I brought my mother so she could see the changes and she was pleasantly surprised. The produce section was large and the bell peppers remain a bargain. There's great variety on the shelves and also serving the neighborhood by offering payment services. Why four stars? I LOVE the vegan section of Circle Food Store (off to the left after walking in the front entrance). They have AMAZING vegan donuts, pizzas, and sandwiches with a chill cafeteria seating area. So happy to see this place back open. I used to come here all the time in high school. Went in for some last minute beer for the game. They were about to close in 3 minutes and they still let me in. Thank goodness!! Thank you!! :) :) Of course I had to peek around for a quick and get tons of other stuff. I was actually surprised at how good the produce selection was (affordable too). I got grapes, bananas and apples among other things. I'm not really a fruit person but they all looked so good that I had to get them. (Never go into a supermarket on an empty stomach. lol) You would have thought that I'd bought them from Whole Foods. The other fruit was pretty good too. I ate the whole bag of grapes alone in two days. Not sure if I caught them on a good day or what but I'll be back to see. :) read more

Thank goodness there's an affordable locally owned grocery that isn't Save-a-lot and doesn't have the overwhelming frills and Buy Buy Buy approach of the other chains! CFS is by far my favoriting grocery store- it's got the perfect flair of an authentic New Orleans store, and then carries things that newcomers like myself desire (tofu, organic veggies, soy milk, the least expensive La Croix) etc. I really can't say enough good things about the Circle and apparently if you eat meat it's the best selection of strange and exotic meat and locally sourced fish. if you haven't been in yet try it-- you'll spend much less on groceries -- won't be tempted to impulse shop AND you'll get what you need. Added bonus: Dwayne Boudreaux the owner is ALWAYS there, always available to chat if there is something you want and can't find--you can just tell him and he'll have it stocked by the end of the week. read more

An up to date version of one of the oldest markets in the city. As tradition they feature great specials on fruit and vegetables. They have a good old school meat department for New Orleans creole dishes. There is a lunch counter that has a great selection of cooked foods also. Circle used to be a one stop shop for everything similar to what Walmart is today and although they no longer have that kind of inventory this store provides much a needed fresh food market to that area of the city. read more

This place is amazing. I'm new to the city and have passed by it the past 3 months, and I decided to stop in today and check it out. Wow. This is a full grocery store, but independently owned. The produce is fresh and as local as can be, and at a very nice price. They even fix phones in here, knowing my butter fingers, this will be a godsend for me. I went to the old circle before Katrina this is not the same. As virtually the only full scale grocery store in the neighborhood the attitude of most of the staff reflected it as if they were doing us a favor. I continued to stop by occasionally to pick up items as it is the only such grocery store nearby. The staff has improved with some friendly cashiers echoing those of the past The selections have improved some as its customer base expands and they reflect an interest in their customers. Yesterday as I'm queued up for checkout. A cashier walks up saying "I'll take you on aisle two. This cashier is closing out." I thought she was talking to the customer behind me but she indicated me as well. Instead of the cashier closing out after me, I had to back out with my cart and line up behind the customer who was behind who had much more items than I. I was not pleased. As I took my position in these narrow aisles, my cart bumped a flimsy wooden display case with loose bottles of wine. One bottle crashes to the floor and the attendant from the customer service desk comes running over and apparently annoyed with the situation barked "what did you do!" As if it wasn't apparent, I told him. Even more annoyed, perhaps because it was close to closing time, he as rudely says "you'll have to pay for it!" I commented that frankly I've never seen such a display much less a flimsy one with loose bottles of wine situated by the crowded checkout aisle. An accident waiting to happen. If I had presence of mind, I would have walked out leaving my cart with all its items . I proceeded with checkout after the customer originally behind and paid for the overpriced wine as well I said to the annoyed attendant concerned about the $11.95 that he's lost much more than that as I will never buy another thing from them. Certainly penny wise and pound foolish. Can't wait for the Robert at St Claude and Elysian Fields to reopen! Maybe the attitude at Circle will improve more. read more

This is a great place to pick up farm fresh veggies and a few things to make THAT NIGHT for dinner. I say that night because I've found that most of the stuff I've gotten here does not have a very long shelf life and its best to cook that day or the next. The meat selection is a bit hit or miss so I definitely cook that time I get home as some of the stuff looks about a day away from expiring.... but the price is right on it. They also have a 5 for 20 deal that I enjoy taking advantage of on some of their frozen meats (which last A LOT longer) and its a lot of time named brand stuff. I really enjoy being able to walk to the store to grab a few things for dinner. Its great having a grocery store less than 4 blocks from my house. read more

We pride ourselves with supporting black owned business and we've been to Circle Food Store quiet a few times. I've given them many chances to get a few things right after complaining about not having Turkey Bacon, certain ingredients, white pepper, fresh fruit and chicken wings that are not Hen Wings. Whenever we're looking for help we tend to have to hunt someone down and when we do, they can't seem to help. Recently they must've went up on prices because last week we went to get Eggs, Milk, OJ & Turkey Bacon (they had it this time) and the total came up to almost $17!!! 4 items for $17!!! Visited your store yesterday. Before I came, I called and asked if your turkey necks were $0.60/lb because I had a newspaper add which stated that price. Was told to bring in add. Drove from Kenner to Circle Food only to be told that the add was incorrect. "So you're not going to honor the add, which I had with me and the manager told me that was a mistake. The person placing the add listed the wrong price. But there was no sign in meat department correcting that. Also should have told me on the phone -prior to my visit-of the error in the add. Very disappointed in your store policy and will not return. I felt that you should have honored the add-BAD BUSINESS. read more

On May 26, 2015 at approximately 10:52am I went to this store on Claiborne in New Orleans, LA because I had an emergency need for first aid material to nurse my excessively bleeding foot. At the time I purchased liquid bandaid, peroxide and an eight pack of regular bandages. Since I was staying across the street the store was convenient to where I was staying...imagine my surprise to get to my temporary quarters on Robertson and see there was everything including an empty box of liquid bandaid ($3.49) . At 11:54am I walked back across hoping to rectify the issue with the store only to be told "I should have known..." and they were not going to honor the failed inventory THEY PLACED ON THE SHELF! Where is their Quality Control? As a customer visiting from DC who had an emergency this was the first time in my life that I had a store basically accuse me of lying, stupidity and whose managers (Dario/Dahilia or something) were so cowardly as to send the message through an assoc. insulted me in such a way. Being I had a few items in my purchase I did not notice the difference in weight especially since I had a full bottle of peroxide and excessive bleeding happening in my shoe...EMERGENCY. I wrote to them with a DEMAND of apology and request for a full refund for the mere EXCHANGE I was requesting. Convenience doesn't equate to good customer service or pride in their product...shake everything before you buy it or bring a scale with you so you can do their job for them. read more

I grew up in New Orleans and always thought this was the store. I recently came back home for a month, and I needed a store that sold lots of vegetables. Well unfortunately Circle food store was not that store. I was surprised that there was no vegetables,beside some okra and bell peppers. Now don't get me wrong there really was more veggies, but not what you would make a meal out of.(no strings beans,sweet potatoes, potatoes,cabbage, Turpin greens) you get the point. I would not recommend this store nor will I ever go back, until the understand the hood need vegetables! read more

Before the storm, i had only been here a smattering of times. But when Circle re-opened, it was really exciting as there really aren't too many options for affordable and fresh food around. And it's just down the street. What other grocery store plays soul, funk, or R and B over the loudspeaker? And gospel on Sundays? People, myself included, find themselves singing along. The produce selection is fresh and varied, not to mention pretty cheap. I was impressed at the Hispanic selection. Slowly, some Asian products have emerged, which is great. My only caveat is that the cheese section is weirdly overpriced. Ah, well. All (except for one -bad day?) of the employees have been either friendly, helpful, or humourous. Or a combination thereof.
