Delicious chocolate cake by the piece

Great store in my neighborhood with great staff. They pay attention to the needs of the locals and regulars. Their produce and seafood/meats are of high quality and when you get things on sale, it's great value! The pieces of cake are also amazing! The sushi is prepared fresh daily. And upstairs is a dining room and a wine room. You can eat your lunch up there, via the elevator. It's a great, clean and wonderful neighborhood grocery store!

    Thanks Christina at the register!

Love this place and shop here occasionally although at a different location. We made it in to pick up some breakfast items before the store closed. It's in what appears to be a residential area but it's a good sized store and is fully stocked. Plenty of fresh meat, prepared foods, veggies and grocery. Staff was nice and we found what we were looking for. The exterior is super cute, very fitting old warm charm. On a tour the day after we visited, we learned that this was a funeral home for several years, so that explains the grand columns. Neat!

No one likes making groceries (yes, that's what we call in Louisiana), but when you've got to do it, you might as well enjoy it. And enjoy it you will, at this location of the Fresh Market. I've been in hundreds of food stores around the country and this one compares favorably with the best of the best. First, the space they occupy couldn't be any cooler. It's like shopping in your favorite bookstore, but with an unbelievable selection of gourmet foods and beverages. As you'd expect, the perimeter departments are the stars of the show, particularly produce, floral, meat, seafood and deli. The bakery and cheese departments are pretty good, but not world-class. The second floor wine and beer market is very cool. Awesome seating area up there too, but I don't see the store leadership taking full advantage of the space (wine tastings, cooking classes, etc.). The checkouts are usually friendly and efficient, but you don't tend to get much service anywhere else in the store, unless you specifically ask for it. The overall shopping experience is with the trip up St Charles via driving or streetcar.

This is a very nice grocery store. I didn't shop here, but I did get some food and ate it upstairs in the large seating area. They also have tables and chairs outside on their front porch. They also had nice public restrooms upstairs near the seating area.

Omg I absolutely love this place. We found this down the road from our hotel. So glad we ran into it. Reminds me of a local mom and pop Publix. Fresh foods and love the set up.

I stopped here to get something healthy to eat I just finished a three hour dance rehearsal and I was hungry I wanted real food to sustain and nourish me. And not no fast food either that stuff makes my tummy upset I had never been here before but my other dancing friends highly recommended this place. Well let me tell you Soon as I walked into this establishment I liked it. The produce was fresh. The meat foul and fish. Fresh. I got my salad and was looking for something to top it off. I purchased cheese and tomatoes I also got some variety of olives Right now I am on a Ketogenic diet and I am abstaining from carbs and sugar so I can fit back into my costumes Wow whee they had sushi with NO RICE This was super nice for me. Exactly what I needed. So I bought three. And SPECIAL NOTE THEY CARRY DARK CHOCOLATE SWEETENED WITH STEVIA Lol Soon as I got to the car. I tried it. And it tasted really good. Even if I don't buy anything else. I will be buying my chocolate here

Dinosaur in the prepared food section

Love this Fresh Market but been very concerned about the situation in the prepared food section. There is a dinosaur there pretty much everytime I visit. I'm not trying to be judgmental, but he has a bad attitude and I don't like the way he is always ogling my wife. The fact that nobody has addressed this issue is sort of outrageous. That said, big fan of their cheese selection and love that they always have a good variety of kombuchas.

Did you know it was once a funeral home? From the outside, it looks the part.

Fresh Market is the bomb. Their bakery section is a work of art; the cakes and pastries are nothing short of exquisite, and everything tastes as good as it looks. Their coffee selection is awesome, and they sample them daily so you know what you're buying. They even have fancy decaf flavors. The olive bar is respectable, and they carry a very nice selection of sauces and soups. What I'm really in love with, though, are the bulk candies. Malt balls and jelly beans and chocolate coated everything! And did I mention the employees are super cool and will let you sample? The only reason they're not getting a solid five is their produce prices, which are on par with whole foods, possibly a little higher ($3 for a bell pepper, I don't think so!!). Still, favorite Uptown market by far.

Fresh Market occupies a niche, trying to be the most premium of food stores, and is one that even I as a bit of a foodie struggle to rationalize patronizing. However, this location delivers on its premise better than the suburban Metairie outlet. It looks the part, a fine historic building of some sort, and has the clean space and fast, easy, friendly checkout that these places seem to pride themselves on. However, in substance it also offers some nice food items. Their vegetables actually did look fresh here, and the ones I was interested in were competitively priced. I was also able to find a surprising number of other packaged foods and goodies. Not super cheap, even on sale, but if you want cheap you shouldn't be here. My major disappointment was that while a space on the upper level was devoted to beer and wine, their selection of specialty soft drinks, one of the main things I've visited Fresh Markets for, was lacking. If they had Cheerwine, I did not see it. That being said, it had enough food items and enough sales to justify the occasional stop.

As a child growing up in New Orleans I remember by grandfather from New Iberia coming to visit frequently. I have a lot of fond memories from his visits, but one of the things I remember is applicable to this review. Whenever he would arrive he would have several gifts for the family. I'm not talking about traditional gifts either. He would bring several packs of boudin and hogs head cheese from a local New Iberia shop. That must have had a lasting effect, because since then, I am on a never ending quest for good boudin and head cheese. I was on such a quest just the other day when I noticed Boudreaux's. The moment I walked in, I knew I was in the right place. There were coolers filled with stuffed chickens, roasts, pork loins, gumbo, étouffée and all other sorts of Cajun delights. In the fresh counter is where I focused my attention and will elaborate on a few items. Boudin - fresh, homemade and with the perfect combination of meat and rice. It had a slight kick, but not to overwhelming. Stuffed chicken thighs - stuffed with jalapeño cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. $375 for around 30 minutes covered and 20 uncovered. Oh my goodness gracious was this delicious. Even if you don't normally like thighs, I strongly recommend this item. Smoked boudin - I don't remember smoked boudin when I was growing up, but what a great idea. Boudreaux's version was perfect. Smoked sausage with pepper jack cheese - whatever you do, but some of this sausage. The sausage is made and smoked in house and this is, without a doubt, the best smoked sausage I've ever had. I don't know how it hod hold up in gumbo or some other dish, but it is amazing on its own. The people working behind the counter were friendly and very helpful. If you're like me and miss the Cajun butcher shops of Acadiana, I recommend you take a trip to Boudreaux's.

If that's not enough for you, Très Bon offers deep fried Oreos and a Maple Bacon Sundae and they have a fridge full of sausage and other goodies packed up just waiting for you to take home- talk about "very good"! I had the pulled pork platter with corn grits and andouille mac ($13). This platter was delicious. First of all, the portions were huge! The pulled pork was actual pulled pork and not a pile of pork shavings covered in barbecue sauce that you tend to get at some other spots. It was juicy and smoky perfection on a plate. I never think of corn grits as a barbecue side, but Très Bon is here to change all of that- creamy and rich, they were perfect with the pork. The andouille mac was in a league of its own- VERY cheesy and the andouille was a nice touch, but totally not necessary as the mac spoke for itself. I loved the huge portions and cool atmosphere. For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. The sandwiches other diners had on their plates were large and looked delicious just glancing around at other tables. Everything comes up fast and the atmosphere is . . . just ideally New Orleans.
