Well first night in NOLA snacking needs. I got that accomplished. Have you ever had Hola Nola chips? I'm a HARDCORE Juantonio's fan out west but the minute I had Hola Nola during my first trip...I knew I had East Coast Corn Chips I loved. I love the Cajun flavored chips. And Rouses was walking distance from my hotel, on the way home from a stop for a NOLA Sazerac. So I grabbed me two bags... should last a week. And some hummus and other snacks. Man was I glad I did. Barely spent anything versus paying double for half of what I got at Rouses in the hotel "market." Shop local. Support the community where you're visiting. Isn't that the point of going to a city? To take it in and support it instead of just supporting big chains?! The cashier was super sweet and friendly and we chatted about cats and dogs lol Prices. Good. Location. Good. Rouses. We love this market, there are at least half a dozen Rouses markets within New Orleans. This one was in the French Quarter. There's also one in Midtown, Freret Street, and the warehouse District and I believe additional markets within the city. They have a great array of grocery items, grab and go items for lunch, meals, side, dishes, fruits, vegetables, a variety of wines nothing to upscale though, beer selection for your stays in New Orleans, and grocery items such as snacks, meals, and whatever your grocery needs are. The staff is very helpful, I couldn't find any stone ground grits. They only had instant Quaker grits - yucky!!!!. Other than that that was my only complaint, the staff guy agreed with me! read more

Always one of my first stops when in town. We buy wine, liquor, and snacks for our room. Praline Pecans are much cheaper than in the tourists shops. It's tight, but has anything you could want. And it's easily located on Royal Street down from Pat O'Briens (my second stop). Cashiers are friendly and helpful. What's not to like? read more

This is a grocery store in the French Quarter, and reminds me of an old time grocery store, probably because it is. The aisles are narrow and were pretty well stocked on a Saturday afternoon. I went here for some of their River Road seasonings and they had a nice variety. Thanks to the guy at the Hot Sauce store for pointing me in the right direction. I'd imagine the locals all know about this, but if you're a tourist staying nearby, it's a good option for room supplies (water, chips, candy, etc.). Quaint little grocery store, emphasis on little.. in the FQ. I love to come here and buy snacks and drinks. Has an old timer feel with eccentricity items I'd never find in my own town. People are mostly friendly and there is always live music playing on the street out front. I mean.. come on. Could this be more perfect?! read more

Rouses has its charm as a local food market that offers many items for those who either live in the French Quarter or are visiting. They sell liquor and other alcoholic beverages that you can enjoy on the street (NOLA allows for open beverages--at least in the French Quarter, if I recall). It's a little messy inside and cluttered being a local food market that ensures to have everything that you could have for residents and nearby hotel guests within walking distance. I did like their alcohol selection especially for cold beverages such as the variety of wines in a can that are available as well as their selection of hot sauce and other Cajun-based sauces. read more

I'm not sure how many New Orleans residents actually live in the French Quarter. Yet, as I walked around, I did find stores needed for day to day life such as Mary's Ace Hardware and this Rouses Market among others. During our recent trip to NOLA, Gayle, David and I came in several times for decently priced supplies: wine for our room, local coffee to take home, and various snacks. For the relatively small space allotted, we found this place well stocked, albeit with the expected narrow aisles. Any one who knows me, knows I love frequenting local grocery stores when I travel. Conveniently located to our Hotel so popped in for snacks multiple times. Great place to pick up Pralines and Pralines were reasonable priced. Other snack items were rather high and selection was limited. One of my must stops in the French Quarter. They have Steen's Syrup, which we cannot find at home. Buy a bottle and thank me later. Plus Hubig's Pies, King Cakes (in season), groceries, alcohol, prepared foods, etc... Employees can be a little crabby but they are constantly busy. read more

Rouses is the primary grocery store in the area. This little market is just down the street from me so it's convenient to pop in and pick up what I need. The selection is limited but you can find the essentials. The aisles are narrow and sometimes the line to check out can be long. Some cashiers are friendly, others aren't. If you're in the French Quarter and need a quick grocery run, Rouses is solid. They have all the classics and then some NOLA stuff as well. I stepped into Rouses to look for a very particular kind of Zapps chips. They had multiple bags of it the first time, but when I returned a week later, they didn't have it anymore, so it's a hit or miss for that. Staff here are super nice, but the lines are definitely a bit weird. Each cashier has their own individual line, which always makes some people grumble in annoyance when they have been waiting on one single line, only to see others skip them to the other open line. There's a Rouses roughly 15 minutes away from the FQ that's a bit more in a residential area, but it's much bigger and if you're like me looking for the Sweet Creole Onion version of Zapps, they have it and then some. read more

Small market smartly stocked with fresh groceries and essentials. There is an ample supply of liquor, including small bottles to spike your drinks while you ramble through le vieux carre. There were fresh cut flowers for all you mating lovebirds and a local market version of the famed King Cake for middle aged platinum card carboholics. The location is perfect when staying in the French Quarter. They have most of the basics that you need and at little more of a cost than a grocery store miles away, but convenience does cost more. There are always locals in and out as well, it's a busy place any time of day. Get in line and stay in line, straight down an aisle or expect an angry lady to yell and demean whoever is close. She does not seem to like her job or even like people but for the past 8 years I remind myself of the convenience! And it's a good place to grab a bag of Community coffee, Crystals hot sauce and a few snacks. If you're lucky, you will catch Doreen playing the clarinet with her band outside and this melts away tongue lashing you heard inside. read more

The Rouses brand is a household name in Louisiana and generally one of the better grocery options in general. For being smack dab in the middle of the French Quarter, I was very surprised at how good this one is. It's beyond the convenience factor for folks nearby, it's also the following: :: It's well priced for being in such a touristy area. This is likely by design, considering that all the other mom-n-pop spots are far more spendy. :: It's clean. Which is a lot more than I can say about the rest of the city. :: it's organized. Things are easy to find and the store is in good shape. :: I've found everything to be super abundant. Want booze for those crazy nights? They have it. Don't want to deal with the crappy restaurants (#1) in the neighborhood? Get all of your ingredients here. :: Seasonal lover are you? They also sell king cake and crawfish too. And their produce is usually pretty fresh too. :: For being a nice little supermarket, it's never been crowded during any of the times I've come here. It's a nice change of pace when things are a little rowdy outside. The only thing that I can't give them a full pass on is the service. I realize that folks working here probably have to deal with a lot of belligerent, annoying people, but they're not the friendliest bunch. This is my favorite gourmet grocery in the FQ. I always shop here when I visit & take a lot of stuff home. Fabulous wine selection. Fabulous cheese selection. And the half pork half alligator sausage y'all carry is my absolute favorite. I bought the last one while I was there, was hoping for more but it was Madi Gras & we all know what happens on Fat Tuesday in the FQ. LOL I also just wanted to give y'all a shout out for your impeccable, superb service. This past Madi Gras 2020, hubby & I bought 3 bottles of vino from you and tons of other stuff. Somehow the 3 bottles of vino did not make it in our bags. In all the chaos, this happens. However, after an hour or so hubby & I made it back thru all the Madi Gras chaos & you guys saved our vino for us!!! "Thank you again! Rouses Market is conveniently located near the heart of the French Quarter and our hotel 3 blocks away. The market seems small from the street view but they have a fairly large selection of items offered at a much larger grocery stores. Items include pre made deli meals, snacks, produce, dairy, alcohol, personal items and other household products. I was impressed with their hot sauce and Cajun seasoning selections and prices. A 4 oz bottle of Crystals Hot Sauce was only $1.47 as compared to the same item at a nearby tourist souvenir shop price around $5. read more

I had a horrible experience with an angry cashier at this market. I don't know her name but she was African American, looked mid thirties or older, was a bit heavy and clearly hates her job. In a crowded store, she felt the need to YELL at me for no reason. The market is small and a bit chaotic with long lines forming in the aisles, each leading to a cashier directly ahead. I picked an aisle and waited patiently for my turn. When I neared the front she scolded me with "WHY DIDN'T YOU STEP UP WHEN MY LINE WAS OPEN?!" "What?" No reply. She stared at me confrontationally. "Wouldn't that be cutting the other line?" Again, no reply. She angrily rung up the next person in her line, no hello's or pleasantries for anyone. The people behind me were as perplexed as I was. When leaving, I turned to her and said "Have a nice day." She ignored me, of course, opting instead to jam items into a plastic bag with just a little too much force. Message received. Next time it'll be my head. But there'll be no next time. I'll never return so long as a wretch like that is allowed to bully customers for a living. It's a shame a nice place like this would employ such a horrible person. If you don't like your job, quit. Or better yet, get canned like that tuna in aisle 3. read more

This rouses location is basically a small corner store. Despite the size, they have pretty much everything you would need if you're staying nearby at a hotel or Airbnb. A wide variety of wine, beer, and liquor, frozen foods, fresh fruits and veggies, premade hot food, sushi, deli items, bread, snacks, sodas, water, etc. Even though it's in the heart of the French Quarter, the prices are reasonable and comparable to other grocery stores. read more

It's the only real grocery store in the area, it's ok. There is a lot of people hanging around outside so be prepared for that. The cashiers are less the enthusiastic to be there but if I had to deal with the nonsense that comes in I would probably feel the same. Rouses does a great job, given the limited square footage in this historic French Quarter building. They just reopened after being closed for a few weeks to renovate. The most obvious improvement is in the checkout area. The queue used to form down the narrow shopping aisles, which made shopping those aisles nearly impossible. Now, the queue is down just one aisle. The service is pretty good, although they could better serve us by taking those who have been waiting the longest when opening a second checkout, instead of taking those who just walked up. I'm guessing I'm not the only frustrated when that happens? On a positive note, they take our safety seriously, by mandating facial coverings and you'll find most anything you need to get a meal on the table, without leaving the Quarter. read more
