Beautiful yarn selection with lovely local choices- something I always look for when traveling. Owner was very friendly and pointed out an item I may have missed otherwise. Also plenty of smaller items that were perfect for gifts like cards, stickers and stitch markers. Prices were what I expect from an independent yarn store selling premium yarns. Excellent selection, personable staff who wants to help and will chat about your selections so you're making an informed educated decision that gives longevity to your final products. Super cute "accessories" (stitch markers, bags, etc). I also found everything reasonably priced for how high quality they are. I'm comfortable here as a queer person who is self taught in knitting and occasionally asks beginner questions. Lucy in particular helped me once with an after thought heel and turned me on to German short row heels. Game changer guys. They also have social events that I'd like to attend when I'm not working, which all look so fun. I love their community and you can book help time, which makes a huge difference in my confidence trying new things. I cannot recommend them enough. Another cute shop in Salem. They have lots of yarn and things but then some other cute crafty things. Very well organized and a good vibe!

PROS: I've never seen a yarn store in my life. I've seen fabric stores that sell everything, but no store that sells just yarn. This place had a lot of books about knitting, knitting accessories, and of course all types of yarn. The nice and helpful lady also showed us the different varieties of yarn based on quality and showed us what was native to the area. CONS: I think the prices were a little too high despite the quality being there. It's not enough to lower the star rating but one roll was $25, if it was dropped to $18 i could see that fly OVERALL: If you're into knitting or want to get into it this place is the place to go. Shopped here twice, first time was in person and the second was by phone. Both times were pleasant experiences! In person they were able to help me pick a yarn based on a pattern I brought in. It was a summer top and required a lighter weight yarn. While there weren't many options in that category, I don't blame them for that as this is New England. They gave me time to think and look. I never felt pressured into having to make a decision. They helped me figure out my gauge too since it was a little different than the pattern. After leaving I changed the pattern a little so I called to purchase more yarn. They were able to look up my purchase from the emailed receipt, which was very helpful. I was also able to purchase some tools. A clear invoice with images was immediately sent for me to review and pay online. I did need my yarn wound, which they charged $2 per skein, but I don't have my own winder, and if it helps support a local store it's a win win. If you're in the area I'd definitely recommend going in, or if you need something and don't have a LYS give them a call! read more

Return policies listed on website weren't honored in store. "All sales final" in store compared to a very thorough and well explained return policy on the website. No mention of "All sales final" or "This policy only applies to online sales" mentioned... was genuinely disappointing and saddening. Edit: Upon the Shop Owner reaching out to me and my being told that my review is incorrect, I feel that elaborating on the information below is necessary. For reference, below is an attached screenshot of the store's return policies at the time of my purchasing. This is worth adding since the shop's policies are no longer the same on their website. Unused yarn is noted as being eligible for exchange in the first paragraph. Below which there is specifications regarding items, that they must be in original "as new" condition- not sale, not clearance, and not an item that is no longer stocked. These specifications imply that items that meet the set criteria would be eligible for a return, and does not specify exchange only. To be told that they "do not do returns", when the language and information provided in the FAQ starkly indicates otherwise is disappointing. The item I purchased was a tarot deck- which was brand-new (unopened), not sale, not clearance, nor an item that was no longer stocked. By this criteria it objectively should have been eligible for a return, but was denied and only offered an exchange. This, despite also offering to take a partial refund to help offset the costs of credit processing fees as I had no desire to make the business lose money. Ultimately, the shop's discretion on returns was utilized. The inconsistency in said discretion with the shop policies is what I felt compelled to vocalize in this review. read more

Knitters, crafters, DIYers, crocheters, embroiderers... there's a little something for everyone here, even if you don't do any fiber craft (they have really great tarot decks, some crystal jewelry, little smudge sticks.) The space is open, warm and inviting. I have never encountered fiber snoot-ery here. The owner, Ana and her staff are kind and super helpful. Great layout - there are couches to the side, out of the way of any merchandise. Ever gone to the type of yarn store when you walk in at any time and there's a table full of people knitting that precludes you from viewing certain walls of merchandise? This isn't that place. They have great selections of handdyed yarn. There are also classes, knit nights and tarot classes. Salem has needed a great yarn shop and Circle of Stitches is the answer. read more

God forbid you go in and are a novice knitter and ask for some human advice. Gone are the days where kindness is honored. The store was empty and I wanted some advice. She said I can't buy yarn at Michael's and get free advice at this store unless I buy something. Well, if I had some help with my project, I would have bought something but I decided to leave. A great new LYS in Salem! The owner Ana Campos is very friendly and super helpful for new and experienced knitters. The inventory is always fresh and plentiful, with a price range to fit any budget. Circle of Stitches carries spinning fiber in addition to great yarn and handy notions, plus gorgeous project bags and a nice collection of patterns both new and vintage. Pop in to pick up supplies and stay to knit a few rows on the comfy couch, or just chat with some other fiber aficionados! Crocheters, don't be dissuaded by my constant mention of knitting. I never got the hang of the hook, but of course you'll be more than welcome! And for anyone looking to learn yarny tricks, there is a class schedule available on the store's website. Small friendly shop with beautiful yarn. I left with a great pattern and wonderful yarn to to stitch great souvenir.

I bought yarn at the shop where the counseling was not very good. One hour later I realized that this yarn wound work for my project. I went back to the store and wanted to exchange the yarn but the shop assistant told me that no exchange or return is possible. I never heard this before at a yarn store and I will certainly never return to this store again. read more

My friend found Circle of Stitches on instagram and we made a little road trip up there! The store is adorable, filled with all kinds of treasures. The owner is very helpful and really great at answering questions. They have cute little sewing kits and embroidery kits and lots of fun project bags and cute enamel pins in addition to tons and tons of beautiful yarn and notions. I go every time i'm in Salem now and have also ordered from them online. They also offer workshops and lessons which I cannot wait to go to! If you go to their website there are also tutorials and links to patterns! I am a somewhat new knitter, I learned over the summer and have gotten lots of great materials and resources from them! I love Circle of Stitches! I am a beginner knitter and have found a helpful staff and wonderful yarn at this shop. Anna Campos is an expert at directing me to the right project and right yarn . She has incredible, lush colored Malabrigo yarn. The ability to drop by and knit, ask questions on Wednesday's knit night helped me complete my very first projects. One of my favorite yarn stores! Their selection isn't huge, but is extremely well curated. A mix of more well known brands (Malabrigo, Berroco) alongside indie/local dyers. I can not say enough good things about this shop! It is a warm friendly place with helpful staff and lots of beautiful yarns to choose from. They are always willing to help you find a pattern for the right project for whatever yarns have captured your heart. They are encouraging to all levels of knitters/ crocheters and after years of trying to learn, finally taught me how to knit!!! There are so many things that I love about this yarn store. The owner, Ana, is a friendly, knowledgeable and experienced knitter. There is a nice place to sit and knit or sit and crochet. She carries many types of yarn and whenever I am unsure of what yarn to use for a project, she is always there with a great suggestion. I have attended the Learning to Knit with Caroline, and the Learn to Crochet Class with Gina. Both were positive learning environments and I had fun.
