Sometime around the year 2000 I feel like department stores in general sort of started turning downhill and no longer had the pizazz they used to carry in the 90s, Nordstrom however, seemed to move with the times and remain classy and elegant. I always loved coming here to go back to school shopping back in the early 2000s and honestly I'm happy to report that not a lot has changed (in a good way). This is still the best place to park and walk into Oak Park Mall, hands down. Nordstrom is still pristine, clean, and has this really nice scent to it? I don't know if that's nostalgia playing games on me from my HS days but it just feels nice to shop here. On the day I walked in recently I was on a mission to visit H&M to pick up some back to school staples for my 1st grader, but thought I'd check out the kids section here first just in case there was a steal on some mini boden or something. Their kids area is packed with adorable clothes, and while I did see some decent deals on the sale rack everything was a bit pricey for my regular back to school haul so I continued on to H&M. All that being said though, I still enjoyed shopping here and seeing what they had. It had been a long time since I'd taken the time to peruse at Nordstrom and I'll be back - it's still probably the best department store in the metro!

Even 3 days before Valentine's Day, there were still plenty of cards to choose from, and they were re-stocking more as I was there. I love that they have all different price points. You can spend 99 cents on a card or 10 dollars- or anywhere in between, and the quality is high no matter what. They also have an amazing gift section- candles, jewelry, tea, magnets, puzzles, stuffed animals, shirts, stationery, the most beautiful wrapping paper and bags, Vera Bradley items... You name it they've got it. And the candy and chocolate- such a huge selection! From single serve truffles to Jelly Belly jelly beans to popcorn to high-end chocolates, just to name a few. Love it all. Even though the store is packed with stuff, it doesn't feel messy or crowded. It's very attractively laid out and extremely clean.

The store is very clean and well organized. Staff is seemingly friendly...the manager is quite attentive and helpful. They don't offer helium filled balloons which is too bad...cards and balloons should come from the same store in my opinion. Really wish this place wasn't so far from home...it is not conveniently located for me but alas, it is the nearest option now that Brookside and PV have lost their Hallmark stores...hope this one isn't next!

Alexis went above and beyond to help me find the right pair of jeans for my little one she is at an I between stage and some items are too big or too small. She even offered to order online to add item to their selves..the best part is that I could continue to shop while she did that I didn't have to stand around and wait. She must be the most patient person on the planet, given that it was the last hour before they closed, and we had basically covered the entire checkout counter with a mountain of clothing. Shoutout to Eileen! This is my favorite Old Navy to shop at, because it is always clean and easy to find things. Everything is laid out in an orderly way, the store has a logical layout, and the people always have a smile. We were also assisted by another associate as we were leaving, but I did not get her name, she was also very helpful. For fabulous bargains and great service, Old Navy at Independence Center!
