I so badly wish this mall was better like it once was. The only thing good is the Loft and Target is attached.

Like any Mall, this one is a mixed bag. Highlights include Target (Grocery shopping at the Mall? Now you can!) the Huuuuuge Food court, the new(ish) Sesame Burger, and several department stores and clothing stores that have been around for years. Now I will say this isn't the most attractive Mall, nor is it the busiest. There's a whole wing that is pretty dead- there's a model train museum there that breaks my heart every time I see it. There are also quite a few trashy looking shops, the kind that only ever last 6 months but you never notice when they leave because a new equally trashy one takes its place. I also feel as though this Mall peaked a while back. Recently, Old Navy and Gap closed. So, if you feel like helping out a failing Mall, that still has plenty to offer, go to this one. read more

Good lord good lord, get me out of here! Those were my exact words as I walked through the citadel mall. The shops were catered to the geographic of the area and usual shoppers. Not my scene not my style not my cup of tea. If you want low end shops with a lot of loud and not so friendly looking people, then you'll love the citadel mall. Just wasn't for me. read more

To be clear I am not rating the entire mall. This rating only pertains to the Charlotte Russe store. My initial shopping experience was average, but I and returned 20 minutes prior to the closing time, and received stellar customer service, from sales associate, Braia. She was patient, while I gathered last minute items, incredibly helpful during my shopping experience, and knowledgeable of CR deals that I was not previously informed of. read more

This is my go to for lunch but only because of the food court, I like being able to not eat the same thing every day but also being able to get my food nice and quick. The location is real convenient being only a couple minutes away from my work. The mall on the other hand is horrible. I wouldn't waste my time trying to shop here. read more

We are business owners with our business located inside the Citadel Mall and all I can say is WOW after reading the other comments. As a business we have done far better than ever after being open only 7 months. What local people have to realize is the mall and the company who own it first are working very hard to improve it and secondly they are a business simply put. No business owner is going to put money into there business unless people are coming to see it. Or better yet coming to shop to support it. Yes the mall may have been the greatest thing in the 80's but its 2015 so why keep talking about how great it was and start talking about how great it will be. It is goibg to take everyone the people who own the mall and the local community to make a difference. So if you want to see change then be that change! I can say as business owners we do not plan on closing or relocating from the mall; infact we are looking into remodeling and making our store the best it can be. Yup, a dying mall. The only place I could think of as keeping the place alive is Target. One Reviewer mentioned that it was for shoppers of that geographic area...basically I think he meant was there's a lot of black people there. So if you're afraid of black people, don't go here. I think it works out for me, as I noticed that there was more Action figures selection because typically "geographic people's" don't buy action figures. lol I'm heading there today! Maybe they have new Black Series SW available or some Marvel figs on clearance. read more

It is a good mall. Like all malls it seems like it is slowly bleeding out. Meaning, more and more of the store fronts are empty. For example, in June 2017 we lost JC Penny's. They still have a Belks. read more

Malls like this one are dinosaurs that are just waiting to eventually go out of business. I would guess that half (50%) of their stores pace is vacant. Stores are very low end and the place was empty. I agree with other post here on Yelp that if Target left, this mall would close down completely! Don't waste your time here, it's not worth a visit. read more

As a resident of West Ashley I see this mall Turing into a medical center. MUSC is going to own it eventually. Very disappointed. It was supposed to be revamped. read more

Every time I come to this mall, I regret it. A lot of stores have closed and remain vacant. And the few stores that are still open tend to lack in the customer service department. The only reason I end up here is to shop at Express. Otherwise I would rather shop at Mt. Pleasant's Town Center to shop at these type of retailers since they offer similar stores but it's overall just a better atmosphere at the people working at the stores tend to be nicer. New owners taking over mall. great security that is active within mall. Monday kids eat free with paid purchase at participating locations. the amazing holy city cupcake location is there; the train takes you for rides within the mall; war museum and train museum all located in the mall. The big seller for kids ride on animals yes plenty to do for the whole family and the newest addition is lunar golf in the Dillard's wing of the mall offering glow in the dark indoor mini golf at great affordable prices for the whole family!!! read more

Ouch. This mall has seen better days. If it weren't for Target and Palmetto Moon I'm not sure many folks would travel here. It's very sad to see the bones of former stores (hollister, American eagle and countless others) filled with "junky" shops. (Not that I'm a huge fan of either store but it just reminds you of hard times). Sad every time I visit. read more

This is what I like to call a "older crowd mall"... Not the most exciting place to go to, But it's alright.

It is an older mall wi a variety of odd stores that I have never heard of. I came here because I wanted to watch the Buckeyes basketball game and be close to a kids area so my daughter could run around. This mall wasn't very busy but seemed to be a relaxing place to go without worries of walking into people. They have a sports bar which was all I really cared about. The kids area is pretty small but my daughter had fun in there and there were only 5-8 other kids in there so not too crowded. read more

While waiting for a rain storm to pass, my wife and I popped into the mall. Although it was clean, it was very dated and obsolete! They either need to do a massive renovation and bring in new and interesting stores or shut the mall down. read more

If you ever needed to convince someone that there was a zombie apocalypse you should just send them to this mall. I don't really know how companies make money in this mall and apparently they don't know either by the fact that most of the shops are actually closed. When you walk in you won't really see too many people even on busy day they probably have only a couple shops that are frequented like target. It's honestly very depressing depressing enough for most people to go up to Northwoods if they ever really needed a mall experience. West Ashley should probably do something about this maybe attract more businesses in the area I don't know the solution but you're probably not gonna find what you're looking for here. read more

It's a mall in Charleston. You won't really find anything here that you can't at any other mall. Much smaller than Northwoods, but somewhat safer. It still has it share of idiots and thugs from time to time, but I still prefer it over Northwoods. read more

Check out the train museum and its neighbor the model train club. Otherwise a fairly average mall.

Needs a little updating but not too bad. Several store fronts are empty, but there is a Target which is cool.

Pros: The best stores here are Belk, Target, and Palmetto Moon. There are a few other chain stores like Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, and Loft that are nice, but for whatever reason they don't seem to have the same kind of selection regular stores have. Plenty of parking. This mall is in a good location--easy to get to and very busy in surrounding locations. Target has a Starbucks. Movie theatre and a Planet Fitness. Cons: This mall FEELS dangerous and is a scary place. I wouldn't go into this mall after dark. I went into the mall one Saturday during Police Week and you could see young teenagers turning away from the entrances because they saw the police. Obvioulsy they are up to no good here. The food court was good for Chick-fil-a, but even the Chick-fil-a has stopped serving certain things on their menu, so you can't even get what you want there. A lot of the stores that are popular don't actually have the same kind of selection you'd see in other stores across America. For example, the Victoria's Secret is very tiny and simply doesn't carry much. The rest of the stores are stores I would simply never go into or have never heard of. This mall is very dead--I was walking around in Sears on a Saturday around lunch time and realized the only other person I saw around was a sales associate. This mall is dying and if it wasn't for Planet Fitness, would probably not have many people in it at all. Stores are going out of business. I used to like to go to a restaurant they had in the mall but it closed down. There is another restaurant in there that is actually good but people don't go because they are scared of this mall. Overall, people go here to shop at target and then venture out into the mall because they want to get a quick bite to eat or they need to stop in to pick something up really quickly. It is rather dangerous at certain times of the day. read more

I've been here several times and have a mixed feeling. It really depends when you go and what stores you go to. The stores themselves all seem just fine - but the mall walkways can be kind of iffy - I've had people ask me for money while I waiting to meet a friend by the food court - that shouldn't happen inside a mall. I love that there is a Target and the Planet Fitness in a 1-stop-shop plus Dillard's and JCPenney's. There are also some decent resraunts like Sesame - which is right by the gym oddly so you can smell burgers while you workout - lol! read more

This is a mall you go to just to walk around or to get something to eat. Every store in the cidital mall can be found anywhere else its nothing special at all about this mall. Its dead no matter what night you go and if you happen to catch it on a busy night its still a drag. They've closed every good store they had. Its boring everytime I walk in there. The place looks depressing. If the model railroad shop is your busiest tenant, that's a red flag. I'm surprised that Dillard and Belk are hanging on, but they do serve the purpose as a short cut to the parking lot. Easily spend 10 minutes shopping, and spend another 30-45 minutes finding a cashier or sales person. No reasonable tenant is going to relocate to a mall that's roughly 75% boarded up. Absolutely no reason to go there. Maybe if the mall had a Dollar General Store, Big Lots, Waffle House, or a Wine Tasting Bar, people would flock there. Other than that, raze the place and turn the site into Nuclear Waste Dup. read more

It is so sad to see this mall go downhill. I grew up going to this mall and I remember going here before there was a food court. I even worked here for a couple of years. Everything has closed or in the process of closing. There are no stores worth going here anymore. I do go to the Target that is attached to the mall. I really hope someone buys this place and revamps it!!! Please. I wish it would get up to par to the malls in Charlotte or even Columbia. I only give it 2 stars because I have good memories here from going here as a kid to working here. read more

Lots of positive improvements taking place at the mall. They are about the only shopping complex in the west Ashley area of Charleston to actually attract new tenants this year, which I think states a great deal about retailer confidence in this center. Several new locally owned and operated stores have opened that are actually really nice. I also like that the mall has Bath & Body Works, LOFT, Victoria's Secret and a really nice Dillard's store here and I don't have to get in that horrid traffic of Mount Pleasant or downtown. Some of the other reviewers here obviously are not aware that the mall has recently been sold to local ownership. This is a great positive development that it's finally out of the hands of the longtime corporate owners from out of the area who never did anything to it. Finally there is hope for a bright future if the center is given the major remodeling it so desperately has needed for years. Great location, easy access, very convenient and central to every area of Charleston. I'm glad to see the new direction the mall has taken and look forward to more improvements coming!
