This was the start of our day out on Kiawah Island. There's a small, pet-friendly square where we took a stroll to explore the area. While the space is modest in size, it's absolutely beautiful and perfect for a relaxing walk on a nice day. Since it was around 85 degrees, we put Luna's dog shoes on for the walk. We highly recommend using dog shoes on hot days-they protect your pup's paws from hot pavement, sharp objects, and even things like bees (Luna was stung once, so we ve learned!). It can take some time for dogs to adjust to wearing shoes, so be patient. Use treats and positive reinforcement when they ignore the shoes, even for a moment. It really helps make the experience more comfortable for them. read more

It's a great area! Groceries, food, shopping. There isn't a lot on this part of John's Island but this place is busy and satisfies most needs. It's beautiful to relax or jump into one of the wine bars or restaurants. Always a go to when we visit Kiawah Island. read more

I heard about Freshfields Village from the Charleston Today Newsletter talking about nearby things to see + do and after following the FV Instagram page I'm like mmmkay kinda wanna check it out! And glad I did! There's plenty of free parking and a handful of restaurants, shops, and boutiques plus a Harris Teeter! I window shopped a few places for Mothers Day gift ideas and went with a homemade gift from Palmetto Scent Studios and a bottle of Merlot at the Wine Bar. I tried Kiawah Spirits but they didn't have any, alas, grateful for their suggestion to check out next door where I got a unique bottle for a good price! I like the variety of cuisine options and got a lovely lunch at La Tela Pizzeria. I have the biggest sweet tooth where Ben & Jerry's fit the moment. I was looking for bath fizzies but didn't find any at Blue Mercury but still nice to see other self-care items. There's a nice green area with corn hole and read how they do live music sometimes. My favorite place to visit for a good reset, run, view, food, and drinks. You can't beat the atmosphere here. I love swinging by Cafe Eugene, urban nirvana, Java, and Lululemon. This place has everything you need in a small beach town. Next time I would love to do biking again and water sports. read more

Right now it is October which in my opinion is the best time to be on Kiawah and Seabrook. The weather is good and the crowds are down. The place this is most apparent is at Freshfields. This morning I sat at an outside table at Cage Eugenia, drinking my delicious coffee and watching the people. There were enough people that I didn't worry about the businesses hurting, but it was relaxed and easy- a far cry from the intense anxious crowds of July and August. read more

Freshfields Village is such a fun place to visit when you are in the area. There are so many different businesses. You can shop, eat, pick up your groceries and even get your tank filled and car washed. You can also go by the bank and pick up the big bucks you are going to need for your vacation. There are lots of fun areas outside of the different stores to sit and just people watch. My favorite is the seating area in front of the Lululemon store that looks like it is covered with grass. Very cool. Most of the restaurants, and there are many, have outside seating. If you are in the area, this is definitely a place you will want to visit. Have your beloved pet with you? No worries! There is even a cool booth where you can put your pet in for free for 30 minutes where he/she will be safe and air conditioned. The center is also super dog friendly with many of the businesses having water bowls outside. read more

This shopping center is located not too far from the security entrance to the Seabrook Island resort and so it is where all the islanders are headed for provisions, dining and anything from "civilization" rather than heading all the way back into Charleston. It's a tight plaza with enough parking despite the crowds this weekend. Tight corners and small spaces but there are plenty of sidewalks and clearly marked pedestrian crossings. Freshfields Village is easily the best shopping center in the Charleston area. It's small but has a family-friendly atmosphere. They're always expanding and adding new types of businesses; a vet clinic recently opened here as well. Freshfields has a variety of shops and restaurants, and nearly everything is dog-friendly. (Look for the pet signs on the doors of the establishments.) I come here often for medical care, groceries, dinner, shopping, banking, and exercise. Freshfields does lots of events throughout the year that cater to families, kids, and pets. Parking is plentiful and free, and the public restrooms are clean. There is something for everyone here. I am sure that once the new retirement village construction is complete, there will be even more vendors coming to Freshfields. read more

Freshfields offers shopping, restaurants and even a gourmet grocery store. It's the only shopping village near Kiawah Island and we came here a couple of times during our stay. They also offer a vintage style gas station for fueling up during your road trip. read more

We stopped here for a bite to eat and a little shopping before we visited the nearby beach. It was the middle of March when we came, which I would think is off season, but there were still some people here. We had our little five pound dog with us, it does seem somewhat pet friendly here. For example, I noticed pet waste bag dispensers. I really liked the architectural elements of the buildings here, it's very quaint and has a Disney World like cleanliness. The shops were cute, but pricey, so we didn't buy much other than clearance items at the souvenir shop. There are a handful of restaurants available, we got take out from the Italian one since we had our pup along. I recommend popping your head into the pharmacy and scoop shop for some old time vibes. I'd budget anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours for a stop here. read more

Freshfields always looks clean, well-kept, and overall is a cute place to shop around. My family and I have been coming here for years and have seen stores come and go. But, one of our biggest complaints is the lack of options for younger shoppers. Unless you're rich and 55+, the clothing stores here just won't really have what you're looking for. I get that they are catering to a certain demographic, but many families have kids in their mid teens to early twenties. Pretty much the only trendy clothing store here is Las Olas, which although has cute stuff, it isn't realistic for many people to spend $100+ on a swimsuit top. It seems like every other clothing store is some variation of "southern style" with clothes for middle aged women. Totally get it, the market is here for it, but it would be nice to have some options closer to Kiawah/St. Johns instead of having to go into Charleston. read more

What a cute little manufactured upscale retail village that is very tastefully done just outside Kiawah & Seabrook Islands that caters to the needs of both the locals and tourists alike. Parking is a breeze here, but I don;t know how much that changes in high season. I'm guessing it may be a problem.They have touristy shops, ladies clothing shops, a great wine bar, coffee shop, pharmacy and generally great stores to meander around all day. The center is a open green space beautifully manicured and beckoning the call to go and sit there, relaxing with your dog or your coffee and people watch, one of my favorite things to do. I loved the whole concept here. People are very friendly and welcoming. So if you are alone for the day, take a drive, chill & relax and I guarantee you, you will enjoy every last minute just as I did. read more

Just eh. Similar to our Market Commons in Myrtle Beach, but boring. Not even outdoor speakers playing music. Some expensive "look at the label im wearing" stores, but not many restaurants. The King Street Grille here is insect infested, dirty and terrible. The pizzeria is really good however. read more

You have got to be kidding me. Sharp H is out of line. Let's talk about what could have been. Whoever gained development rights to Freshfields Village could have made it a typical strip shopping center with a giant parking lot, standard run of the mill boxy architecture and standard national credit tenants. The tenants still would have paid great rent because of the clientele and the developer could have made a lot of money (perhaps more) with much lower up front capital investment. Instead, Freshfields Village is a quaint, walkable village with careful detail paid to the little details. Each building/store has a different building material, color, elevation with attention on shutters, brackets, texture, rooflines, etc. But they didn't stop there- they could have just painted and put cute signs out, but they also commissioned adorably nostalgic murals on some of the sides of the buildings. The sidewalks integrate oyster shells and the landscaping is lush. The majority of tenants are local retailers/restaurants with some national conveniences (banks). Thank God that Piggly Wiggly stepped it up with Newton Farms, a fantastic gourmet grocery store at great prices. The offerings are totally different than the Pig down the street. The boutiques are super cute and have the typical "resort" wear you'd expect and jewelry but also a cute toy store, home decor, etc. It's a perfect place to stroll around when the weather isn't cooperating and you need another alternative. It was so nice, hubs and I found some extra reasons to go back. Sure it is a "manufactured" town square, but in a place where there is no town center, sometimes it has to be created. This allows them a place where they can offer a weekly farmers market where you can get awesome bread, pies, burgers, local fish, etc. as well as movie nights and music on the green. Again, it could have just been parking lot and concrete plaza. I've worked around real estate for 16 years and I've seen examples of poor, mediocre and excellent new development across the world. This is in the top tier of casual, coastal development. Bravo. read more

20 years ago when my family started going to Kiawah, forgetting milk was a big deal. After winding down Bohicket Road and then Betsy Kerrison Parkway to get to the island, we would be several miles from the Piggly Wiggly on Main Road. Going back to the store was an ordeal and certainly a bummer since it would take away beach and bike ride time. That's why Freshfields Village is a vacation saver. It was sad to see the marsh at the island's entrance get covered with a parking lot but the shops at Freshfields, especially Newton Farms, the huge grocery store, are wonderful. Atlantic Partners, LLC, has truly created a village, minus residential space. There's a Half Moon Outfitters, a pharmacy with a soda fountain, little art galleries and boutiques, a bank, a book store, restaurants, and a salon. It looks great and is very accessible. If only there were a bike path from the island to the village... read more

Freshfields Village makes life easier, plain and simple. Like Regina S. mentioned, gone are the days of driving miles to the nearest Piggly Wiggly for eggs or milk. Just past Rosebank Farms, at the entrance to Kiawah and Seabrook, lies a convenient answer to your last minute shopping needs. Freshfields has a gourmet grocery store (Newton Farms), coffee shops (Java Java and Starbucks), bookstore (Indigo), boutiques, and a handful of restaurants. Here's how I would describe the dining options in Freshfields: La Tela- classic Italian food made by a father/son team; moderately priced Ladles- homeade soups, salads, and sandwiches; casual Hege's- French fare; upscale King Street Grille- sports bar; casual I like Freshfields so much more now that the bike path from Kiawah to Freshfields is complete. It's so nice to be able to bike over for coffee and a morning of perusing the shops. Or, you can ride over and cool down with some ice cream from Marble Slab. I grew up working in/visiting the mostly-defunct Straw Market, so it took me awhile to warm up to the idea of Freshfields, but I can now say that it's a welcome addition to the area. read more

Why, oh why would anyone complain about Freshfields Village? It's the perfect little shopping area with over the top cuteness. Two solid restaurants, neat little boutiques, a quaint courtyard, even a bookstore! If you are complaining about this place, there's little else that can make you happy. Also don't miss the old fashioned soda pops and sundaes in the deceivingly named "pharmacy". It's a full service diner which also sells meds. Yes, this place lacks the charm of Kings Street, it is not a century old, the walls don't have paint peeling off but, so what? It is a commercial development that looks pretty, is well maintained and has enough things to do for a couple of hours. Just go! read more

The epicenter for retail and restaurant's around the Kiawah area. Freshfields is a beautiful commercial development with tons to offer. Here you will find shopping, restaurants, boutiques and bistro's and even groceries all in a beautiful and meticulously maintained area. It's so relaxing and everything you would expect from the Kiawah community. In the center of the "village" is a beautiful green where they host events year round. There is a weekly farmers market, music on the green on the weekends, movies on the green seasonally, as well as one off events that include food truck rodeo's and family fun events. Now this is a fun big are with shops around it. Lots to buy and see. but what makes this place the bomb, is when they hold there free concerts on the green. yes free! Some really great bands and when the weather is bad they have a giant tent. Just bring a chair or blanket, plus a cooler or buy something there. Great for kids and adults and visitors to the area. Typical retail accommodations for tourist! I found everything to be overpriced and sub-par. The grocery store is basically a small Whole Foods, but not as nice. Also, I witnessed loud music, pimped out cars, and the usual adolescent fuss during the evening hours. I was nearly hit a couple of times while trying to cross the street. I guess the teens need something to do on the island while dad is playing golf? LOL read more

Friday night and the wait was terrible. It appeared one group had their food returned to kitchen. After our group had a long day of golf we returned on Sunday. Give it another try. Kitchen was out of most dishes. Surprised. For several years have found KS GRILL to be good bar food. Quality of service dropped from mid summer visit. This small village is centrally located between the resort islands of Seabrook and Kiawah. There is something for everyone here, and all your basic shopping needs are taken care of. There is a candy store, ice cream shop, grocery store, liquor store, all sorts of small shopping venues, and outdoor store, various eateries, a pharmacy/old school drug store, and much more. It has a nice quaint feel to it. We were jokingly comparing it to the town in the movie The Truman Show, and the traffic circle just outside confirms that even more. There is plenty of parking and access to the different shops. My only complaint is price. Everything was a tad on the high side, but seems about right for the area we were in. I was glad this was there, because the closest shopping/grocery is about 10 miles outside the islands. read more

This is a post for Indigo Bookstore at Freshfields Village. I have been in the store twice. BOTH times the salesperson did not even acknowledge my presence, but was very chatty with others who just walked in. I mulled around for 15min or so looking for a book. I could not find what I was looking for and no one assisted me. After 15min, I gave up. While the salesperson was chatting with another customer who walked in after I did, I made sure I thanked her so much for all her help. Bottom line: they lost a sale. read more
