I walked in to the market and looked around for a restroom - didn't see one anywhere. I noticed that the space was pretty small and a bit cramped and there was a door propped open that led to what looked like a storage space - luckily I didn't end up in there accidentally. Finally eventually someone working there said that the restrooms were across the street. Got it! Headed across the street to what looked like a state park type free-standing restroom facility. It was fairly clean which was nice! However there was no soap in the dispenser and I couldn't get the automatic faucet to give up any water. Well, I guess that's what hand sanitizer is for, right? Yikes. I did a quick glance around at the liquor options behind the counter, because I wanted to see if I could pick up a local whisky we had tried while on Drummond Island. I didn't see any and the guy behind the counter didn't ask if I had any questions or if I was looking for anything in particular so that was a bit awkward. They only had your typical big name bottles, nothing at all that looked local. Not a big deal but I also didn't feel super welcomed there. There was a nice little walking path and grassy area for my friends' dogs to roam, as well as a really nice view of Mullett Lake! We saw a person hanging out there with their dog just enjoying the views. It made for a pleasant outdoor experience even if the indoor experience wasn't 5 stars. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get to this spot again, as it was pretty far off the highway.

So I stopped as I often do to buy gas and when I run my credit card through the pump it doesn't…read morework. So I run it again and it doesn't work. Now I know the card is good because there is over $2000 in that account and the card works every where else I use it, so I go inside and tell the clerk and she comes outside, walks to the pump and then begins to insult me with some garbage about how I'm doing it wrong or some similar crap. Extremely insulting manner. She starts in on me..... So now a shouting match ensues, I leave and go down the street to Louie's Market and use the exact same card, swipe it once and fill up my truck. I have lived outside Boyne City for 10 years now and I have always gone there for gas, diesel, propane exchanges, lotto tickets and liquid refreshments....no more. I just called Marathon Headquarters in Findlay, Ohio and told them to clean up that operation and until they do I am now Louie's new customer. I feel no need to be insulted as a customer. They have lost me and I hope you will also consider if you want to deal with insulting people that yell at you when their card reader at the pump doesn't work and you ask them for help.

I bet you've seen this somewhere. A highlight is the Sumatra Mandheling dark roast that comes out perfect every time. I've been known to stop just for the coffee and nothing else. But I'm strange and I have to pass this station a dozen times a week. On to the gas prices which are pretty competitive when you consider there is no immediate competition. My method is simply to note all the gas prices in my town as I drive to Charlevoix, compare those numbers with Bay Market and then neighboring Petoskey. On the way back home, I reward the lowest bidder by filling up. The rest is boiler plate stuff. Beer, wine, snacks, pop and sweets. A small difference is they carry grocery store items such as canned goods like soup and Beefaroni. Boxes of noodles and rice, etc. I've only encountered two fellows and neither was overly nice. Not mean, just matter of fact, you're a number, cash or charge, have a nice day. But I don't much care since I'm here for a cuppa Joe! At least the store is clean and one of the guys is very artistic. Different drawings and price menus are on the wall each week. It's a decent time, but I wouldn't scurry down here unless you needed something. 11/23

We can always rely on fresh produce and specialty cheeses, prices are comparable to the big box stores. I was very surprised about one of the negative comments regarding deli food...if any issue has arisen .. once informed the staff has always been eager to "make it right". Having fresh and local produce, and many tasty pre-pared items with a great overall selection selection, convenience to home and a lovely check-out staff (always available) makes a trip to Harbor IGA a pleasure. The reason being because we put glass bottles in the glass return spot and it "broke" the machine even though it was running perfectly fine and NEVER had troubles. We were apparently in his way and said sorry 100's of times but every time he cussed us out. Will never return bottles ever again there. Awful and unprofessional work! The whole store heard the worker.I feel bad for his coworkers. Never ever again, we are only 14 and got cussed out multiple times.
