"...AFFORDABLE CLASSY DINING IN BEAUTIFUL BEAUMARIS..."…read more Last week we enjoyed a gorgeous three course lunch, with some fair dinkum QUALITY Aussie chardonnay, at the GRANGE STEAK AND GRILL in bayside Beaumaris - it was 10 degrees cooler out here [than in town] - that sea breeze was just so lovely... The whole experience was first class all the way: - elegant digs - silver service - fab food So thanks to Ben - the head guy - who made it such a pleasure - a really lovely person who kept serving us for an hour after they'd closed - we arrived very late - kinda difficult at present to judge the Chrissy traffic...!!! Anyway, over the course of 2 hours we ate and drank... and really truly thoroughly enjoyed the following: -Grilled rustic bread -Chargrilled asparagus with Spanish prosciutto -Grange salt and pepper squid -Chargrilled Grange baby sausages then -Walnut cannelloni -Chargrilled premium eye fillet steak -Reza's signature whole lobster tail risotto -Pan fried salmon -Sides: potatoes roasted in duck fat, smoked salmon with creamy salmon mousse, beer battered fat fries, beetroot mash then -Chef's selection of signature desserts including house made vanilla ice-cream, chocolate mousse, creme caramel and chocolate gateau. To drink: -house chardonnay -house made LLB's -NZ sparkling water Okay, the whole thing cost us $138 [2 x $69 Scoopon Vouchers] plus $43 for a few extras = $182 for four. Just so so so, YES so amazin'......!!!! A classy joint.. with beautiful F & B's.. decent sized servings, considering it's fine dining.. and top notch service.. but, not formal, if you don't want it to be.. not dress-up, if you don't want to.. and not over-priced.. A great place to take that some-one special... Visited on Friday 18 December 2015 for lunch.

I've driven passed True South heaps and heaps of times, and always wanted to try it, yet never did…read more... until tonight. I am kicking myself that I never came sooner. It was really, really good. The restaurant has a great vibe about it. For some people, they'd love to come in summer when out the front there are tables on the footpath and on the inner outside there are bar stools to sit and drink while watching the world go by. Inside, the restaurant has a clean, industrial feel to it. It was busy, but not overly loud. We were seated right away and your placemat is the menu, so you dive right into looking for things that grab your taste buds. Many - if not all - dishes are great for sharing, so we started out with Chipas (mini cheese rolls, mandioca flour, cheddar and parmesan) and the Croquetas of the day, which were chicken and corn. Before those came, we were served up a mini bread roll each with an olive and ricotta dip. Very delicious. The entrees came out and they were heavenly. The Chipas were amazing and I could have just had several serves of those as my meal. The were like mini warm cheese scones. The croquetas were good; had a beautiful crumbing on the outside, but the inside was nice, though nothing to rave about. For the main, I ordered my own Caviche de Salmon. It came with mango, cherry tomatoes, onion and plantain crisps. I didn't much care for the plantain crisps, and I hated the fact that there was coriander in the dish without it being listed on the menu. I would have asked for it without it, as I can't stand coriander. Yuck. Of course, there was something that really stood out to me on the dessert menu, so I had to order it. It was a chocolate fondant, with banana and caramel ice cream. That sounded incredibly appealing and tasted really, really good. My only minor complaint about it, was that it was truly ICE cream. That almost ruined it, but the flavours were everything. There was just a few things I didn't like about True South. One was the tables felt sticky. Two was that you could smell cigarette smoke from outside, even though it's illegal to smoke right outside an eatery. And three, because of the open shutters, it allowed for flies to fly in. Small things I guess in relation to how good the food and service was. Yes, the mains came out slowly, but they were really busy and food was continually leaving the kitchen. Would I go back again?? YES, YES, YES. I really enjoyed the meal and it was something different to usual here in Melbourne. How authentic it is, I don't know. But if you want a great spot with good atmosphere, great food and reasonably priced meals, then this is the place for you. It's worth the drive.

Another success for the Bayside area!…read more The Parlor is a gorgeous cafe located on Weatherall Road that opened at the end of 2011. Since then, I feel this cafe has gone from strength to strength. This local delight is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings (hopefully with more nights to come). Considering The Parlor is almost isolated in a largely residential area, you may be surprised to see how busy it is - especially on weekend mornings! But how can you blame the Bayside population? The Parlor is simply a pleasure to visit. The menu is varied, offering something for everyone and being updated often. I've found the meal sizes to be generous, especially when ordering brunch. The french toast was of a gigantic size. The little touches are cute, such as milkshakes coming in adorable milk bottles. Flowers on the table, friendly staff... you can see why this place is thriving in Beaumaris. The front deck is perfect for catching some rays of sunshine, with the view of the golf course. If the weather is less than ideal, don't forget there's also a back room. The large communal table in front of the kitchen helps to give the Parlor a lovely and warm homely feel. My favourite spot would be the quaint table for two inside, overlooking the deck. Just remember for busy times, you can call up ahead and reserve a spot! The Parlor Milkbar and Kitchen is truly a hidden gem, that has impressed since it's opening.

From the moment we arrived to the second we left the staff were impeccable and went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. The professionalism of each and every staff member was faultless. We started with a grainy garlic bread which was accompanied with a capsicum dip, feta cheese and olives which was the perfect start to our meal. Our drinks (the lychee and blueberry mojito and Asahi) were delivered promptly and were refreshingly delightful. Our entrees which were the beer battered scallops with sweet chilli dipping sauce and the Sicilian black mussels, came out quickly and were presented beautifully. The scallops were cooked exquisitely and melted in your mouth. The dipping sauce was the ideal accoutrement. The mussels were lovely and fresh. The portion sizes were quite large so after finishing the entree plus garlic bread we were beginning to get quite full so hoped that our main courses wouldn't come out too quickly. Luckily, they gave us a bit of time between finishing the entree to bringing out our mains, which were the Aged black Angus steak topped with prawns and a gnocchi gratin and broccolini on the side and the scampi fettuccine. Both mains were above and beyond value for money and unfortunately we could only eat half of what was on our plates as the sizes are very generous. A nice touch was at the end of our meals was we were given a complimentary shot of Bailey's, sugar cookies with a hazelnut filling and chocolates. This has now become a favourite, so much so that we will be coming back next weekend to try the seafood with lobster platter and cocktail degustation :)
