So with everything closed our company decided to provide a summer event employees could enjoy from home, one of the activities was the home brew experience by City Brew Tours. Don't know how to brew - NO PROBLEM Don't Have the supplies and equipment to Brew - NO PROBLEM Don't mind waiting 2 weeks for you Beer to ferment - THIS EVENT IS FOR YOU! So as I said our company offered employees a Home Brew experience as one of the options for our summer event this year, you can choose from 2 types of beer to brew, then you wait and about a week before the event a big box off supplies and equipment arrives at your door. The day before the event you get an e-mail with a zoom meeting invite for the actual event, along with some instructions so you are ready when the class starts. Our Instructors were Mike and Kevin, they meeting started on time and while the is some downtime while the water boils and the grains steep Mike and Kevin kept things interesting with helpful hints and tips, Brewing history, the reasons why you are going what you are doing at a certain time, what happens when you do certain things, why those things are good, bad or necessary and what to expect in the next two weeks while you are waiting for your beer to finish. There were some questions from our group and Mike answered them all, he was very knowledgeable about beer and the process of making beer. While I don't think I will become a master brewer and take up brewing as a full time hobby I did very much enjoy the experience and found it very informative and educational . If you like beer, or even if you are not a huge fan (yes we had one in our group and he enjoyed the class as well) I would highly recommend trying this type of event at least once, just so you know a little more about beer. Based on my experience with this home brew event I would be very willing to attend one of City Brew Tours in person events when things open back up again. I bought a gift certificate for my husband for Christmas since he's a beer geek. Found a lovely weekend to go. This was a great experience. Max was the best tour guide ever. Seriously. We visited three breweries. Heavy seas. Diamondback. Waverly. We'd never been to any of them. 4 beers at each stop. Plus a light dinner at Brass Tap. Whether you know Baltimore or not, this was a great way to try new breweries and beers. And make new friends. I'd like to do this again in another city where we don't know. The beer at Mobtown, Checkerspot, and Heavy Seas was good. Brass Tap fed us well (although ya might wanna ditch the cheese curds). Best beers: Honey Kolsch and the hef at Checkerspot, the saisson highly recommended at Mobtown, and the raspberry ale at Heavy Seas. But it was Josh the brew guide made the trip especially fun. I purchased a voucher for 2 for my girlfriend for Christmas this past year. I ended up needing a little help and their customer service was quick to respond and very helpful. Just a tip when booking, they need at least 3 people scheduled to do a tour! Once I had a little help purchasing my voucher everything else was a breeze. Our guide, Ryan, was 15 minutes early to put pick up location and reached out to offer assistance if we needed help finding him. We drove 1.5 hours from home to participate in this tour. We brought a designated driver. The tour did say it included 16 beer samples. By our count we sampled 13 different beers, but there were ample refills. We purchased the meal option for the tour. There could have been more food involved and it would have been great to have at least an hour at each location with snacks. It would also be great if there was a discounted option for designated drivers. Our tour guide, Julie, was great and was also super knowledgeable of the history of beer. We also had a Beer Guide Interviewee on the tour named Josh. Josh was awesome and would make an amazing guide. Both Julie and Josh were homebrewers and clear craft brew enthusiasts. It was a great time, the beers we sampled were great, we learned a lot about what goes in to brewing, and enjoined some behind the scenes education. We would highly recommend this tour for any craft beer lover or someone who wants to just try something new; but, definitely plan to have a designated driver or plan to stay somewhere near the drop off point because you should not be driving after this tour, lol. read more

My girlfriend surprised me with a City Brew Tour in Baltimore for Christmas and it was absolutely the best gift I've ever received! We took part in the After Hours Tour, which I would highly recommend! Our guide, Ryan, picked us up near the Inner Harbor at 5 pm. He was extremely friendly and easy to talk to (not to mention, he knows literally everything about beer!). We started our tour at Heavy Seas and also visited Charm City Meadworks, Brass Tap, and ended at Diamondback Brewing Co. I loved every single brewery we went to and also reviewed each of them separately if you are interested in checking out their Yelp reviews. Ryan gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of ever brewery listed above and was very enthusiastic about answering all of our questions. He seemed to know the owner of every bar and even introduced us to them when the opportunity was presented. He was accommodative in that he took our beer preferences into consideration before picking out which samples we would try. The tour lasted until 10 pm and by that time, I was pleasantly buzzed AND super knowledgeable on several Baltimore breweries. I can't recommend this tour enough! read more

Did the CBT Baltimore After Hours Tour last night. It far exceeded my expectations - and I do not prefer beer! Started at Guinness, then Heavy Seas, then Diamondback, then Waverly. We got more than our money's worth! We tasted 4-5 beers per venue and learned about processes, flavors, history, and how to really appreciate the beers. It also included food at Heavy Seas. Our beer guide and driver, Mike, was nice, knowledgeable and super enjoyable to hang with. I would totally do this again and would look forward to it. I would also ask for Mike as our guide. This was such a fun outing! The tour guide was friendly & shared info about the history and architecture of Baltimore during our rides, and explained all of the nuances of the different breweries in a way that made it interesting for experienced beer people and new beer people. My only delta is that lunch wasn't super filling -- a taste of 4 items for the 4 beer pairings, plus a tiny salad. My gf and I bought a voucher and took the Afterhours tour. We had a small group of 4 which was perfect. Went to 4 different breweries (Guinness, Heavy Seas, Diamondback, Waverly). We were able to pick our meal at Heavy Seas which is something new they are trying. It's nice since you can pick off the menu and get what you want but it doesnt really allow them to curate a meal/beer pairing so thats a plus and minus. Brent, our guide, was great and allowed us give our preferences of beers at each stop which was great for everyone on the tour. A large group (10) of us went on the 11am brew tour yesterday and had such a fun day! Our tour guide was Matt--- as other reviews indicate while you are driving to the breweries you are taught a lot about the history of beer in a friendly and interactive manner. At the breweries, its hard to imagine having anyone who could have been known more about how beer is made than Matt. He was terrific. Our first stop was Oliver Brewing and they had some of our groups favorite beers. We got to taste 4 different beers there. Next was a stop at Brew House #16 for lunch and another 4 beers. Then we hit Heavy Seas (4 more beers) and rounded out the tour at Baltimore Meadworks. The beer was plentiful, we learned a lot and had a great day exploring the different breweries. Just took the first ever Baltimore Brew Tour last night! Went with my fiancé and best friend and had such a wonderful time. Our tour guide Barry was amazing. Right from the start he set the vibe for the tour which we could tell was going to be fun! He really got all of us to get to know one another since there were two other passengers on the tour with us. I would say even before we got on the bus we all became friends! He is also knows everything there is to know about beer! He went through the history of it and would give us trivia questions along the way (I'm obsessed with trivia and this was one of my favorite parts of the tour). We went to four different breweries. Each tour you could tell Barry did his research because he would tell us facts about all of them and handpicked the beers that we'd be drinking throughout the night. He also selected our dinner menu items that would pair well with the beers we were sampling. This tour was awesome and I highly recommend everyone that's in Baltimore to go!
