All the ladies from "City Cooking West End" were wonderful teachers and hosts to us. We learned how to make fettuccine and ravioli pasta from scratch! I never thought I would do something like that but it makes me appreciate it so much more. We were given wine and hors d'oeuvres during our pasta making session here. It was definitely a new experience and everything turned out great (although I was a little worried about our cooking skills to begin with). After everything was done we got to have the food we made along with a delicious salad and ice cream! I had so much fun at City Cookin'! There are so many unique things about this class, but let's start with the fact that it's hosted inside an apartment. Steph, the cooking instructor is a recipe blogger in NYC and developed the idea to provide cooking classes in her own apartment. This way, New Yorkers can learn to cook delicious meals in their tiny, less than welcoming kitchen(ettes.) Steph's apartment is also a very unique space and sits at the very peak (literally) of a tall corner building. The space itself is small, but she has an enormous outdoor patio with beautiful views. The second unique part of this class is that Steph worked to recreate dishes from famous NYC restaurants and gives you the recipes at the end of the class so you'll be able to try them at home. Each class has a different menu, but my class featured: US Open Melon Cocktails Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate Jean-George's Tuna Tartare (my personal fav) Momofuku Brisket Buns Levain Chocolate Walnut Cookies (we didn't actually bake these, but she sent us home with some and the recipe) I recommend this class for any foodies, New Yorkers, couples, roommates, a Mother's Day gift, a bachelorette party, a divorce party, or anyone that wants to see how NYC Cookin' works. read more

This was an awesome experience! I would recommend this cooking class/studio and will probably come here again (I went with friends this time, but the experience was good enough to bring a significant other) The staff is SUPER friendly and when some of our party couldn't make it they adjusted the bill accordingly (they really didn't have to do it) and let us make all the extra food. The space itself is very inviting, spacious, beautifully decorated and designed to give a great learning experience. The food selection was great. They opened with some small bites which they prepared for us. This was followed with us preparing our pasta for the ravioli (they made the stuffing before the class started). Then we prepared a tuna tartare, followed finally, by the cookies (Levain inspired but tbh nothing like Levain cookies). I only had two qualms about this place. First, the "cooking" was more doing very basic things like following a recipe or putting things into a mixing bowl or stuffing a ravioli. Be warned, you will not get hands on knife skills at this location. My second qualm, was that I took their advice with a grain of salt. I've been cooking for a while now and I could tell that when I made the pasta the resulting ravioli would be too thick. But the instructor insisted that this would give the ravioli the right structure... but it just ended up being super thick... Of course, those are just tiny nit picks. I highly recommend this place and would recommend all to come here. read more

I just hosted a client event with City Cooking last night and it was perfect. Stephanie was THE BEST. She helped me set everything up to perfection. As I was organizing from afar in Chicago, she went above and beyond accepting packages, setting up gift bags and even helping me to orchestrate a white elephant gift exchange. She was incredibly helpful and a joy to work with. She provided three options for how to setup the class (more vs. less hands on) and also provided two amazing menus to choose from. The actual event night was so well executed! Her and chef Ken were charismatic and organized. The food was terrific (more so the chef-made apps and dessert, but our cooking wasn't bad either!). The space was gorgeous. Perfect for both cooking and dining together. I would absolutely host an event here again! Loved. read more

Steph hosted a class for my business school event, for the Gourmet Club. It was truly amazing for everyone! The space is one of the most beautiful kitchen spaces I had ever been to- I felt like I was in a modern luxury home. Steph was so easy to work with and so sweet throughout the booking process. She was very attentive and flexible to our needs. The actual class was a lot of fun, and delicious. The dishes were easy to make, but also came out beautiful! We had tortelloni, tuna tartare and treated with levain style cookies and creme brulee afterwards. We not only learned a lot, but it was a good mix of sitting back and eating delicious food. read more

We were looking for something fun and interesting to do on a Saturday afternoon and this fit the bill perfectly. The theme is learning how to make dishes from some of the best local restaurants in NYC. Steph, the host, was really knowledgeable and patience. She had lots of great tips (thanks for teaching me that pickling trick!) and the pace felt just right. Unlike some of the other classes we've taken, this one was very hands on. I feel confident repeating these dishes at home. As an added bonus, they have an amazing terrace which we were able to take advantage of to dine al fresco. Really fun and informative class in relaxed, sociable, upscale surroundings that will teach you how to make the current bi-coastal culinary rage -- poke bowls. These are essentially lightly dressed raw tuna or salmon salads featuring Asian / Hawaiian flavors such as sesame oil, green onion, pickled ginger, sesame seeds and soy sauce over sushi rice, brown rice or quinoa. Healthy-eating-wise poke bowls are one step away from sushi, but slightly higher in calories due to ingredients like the oil and (optionally) small amounts of Japanese mayonnaise. In this 3-hour class, you'll also find out how to use the fresh poke filling in half pan-fried / half steamed dumplings that are absolutely delicious. Both Stephanie, the owner who facilitates and Chef Ken, who demos and leads the hands-on class, are absolutely wonderful. But come hungry - there is a lot of food to enjoy with the wines! After a long hunt for a Knife Skills class that wasn't all the way downtown and on a weeknight, I found City Cooking West End. Four of us signed up together and were part of a class of 10 people on a Saturday afternoon. Chef Ken was terrific; relaxed, very interactive, and he made the class fun and informative. He also prepared us a delicious meal that included all the different things we'd chopped and cut while learning how to use our knives, and the class sat down and had a lovely, social lunch together. They even bagged up the leftover things we'd cut up to take home, which I used the very next day. From start to finish, the experience was everything I was hoping for and more. The space is really nice and the chef was a fun instructor. We made a Thai meal - tofu pad thai, a thai salad with shrimp and chicken curry. It was a nice event for our group of 6. The lighting in the space is very dark and would have been nicer to be able to see better during prep and while we were eating. We also had a ton of leftover food but they didn't let us take it home and they wrapped it up and kept it. We got a small portion to take for one member of our party that had to leave before the meal. Seemed strange that they wouldn't give us the leftovers that we made to take home. We should have been able to keep it considering the cost of food should have been part of what we paid. read more

Monica was extremely helpful when getting all of the logistic and details set for our event and was very accommodating with the many last minute requests we had leading up to the day of the event. We hosted our holiday team outing at City Cooking West End and had a wonderful time! It was a very intimate setting, which allowed for everyone to be able to talk and mingle while also cooking. The event started off with lovely hors d'oeuvres and wine (which there was an unlimited amount of throughout the meal). Our private chef was so nice and did a cute ice breaker at the beginning of the event. She was also very helpful with some of us less skilled cooks. We also all enjoyed the recipes we cooked: brussel sprouts salad, ricotta ravioli, and poached pears! And they even sent us the recipes as a take home souvenir. Some people on our team already have cooked some of the recipes at home! Monica was a fantastic event manager and was very responsive throughout the planning process. Amazing experience at City Cooking! I came for a bachelorette party with a group of 10, and the class was the highlight of the weekend. We started with appetizers (made by Steph), tuna tartare, then made gnocchi, and finally had a creme brulee (made by Steph). The meal also came with ample wine and champagne. Everything was DELICIOUS. Everyone in the group was thrilled with the outcome, and the price tag was very reasonable in light of everything we made / ate. The space is also extremely large and beautiful. Steph was really accommodating of food restrictions and allergies, and very responsive. this was such a fun way to spend a few hours on a sunday afternoon! i kinda can't believe i dragged the boyfriend here, but he had a great time. stephanie, our teacher, creates a fun relaxed environment. i wish it hadn't been so cold because her space has an amazing HUGE deck and it would have been fantastic to be out on it while having a lovely tasty meal. i'm a fairly experienced cook, but i think this class would appeal to both beginners and intermediate/advanced. for beginners its a great way to get used to using tools and seeing some techniques.. but being a little more advanced, its still such a great learning experience. i got to use gadgets i never had the chance to before- I'm totally getting a kitchen torch!! thank you, stephanie! this was my first cooking class and you made it a lot of fun!!! read more
