We had a great time at Proud Wineaux's Yoga & Wine event this past Sunday. We enjoyed the yoga class intermingled with a wine tasting. The owner Jaye who is a sommelier is a fabulous instructor that taught us a few things about wine and also about yoga. We thoroughly enjoyed the class, the wine and the mingling afterwards. We also got an impromptu yoga demonstration from two dedicated yogis. Highly recommend this class and will be looking forward to their other classes. read more

I got my Groupon on and I am glad that I did. The classes fill up quickly so be organized and get into class sooner than later. I learned a lot about the grape of choice, CA vs. France vs. Italy variances for the same grape, and other interesting factoids about wine. Jaye was great in explaining the grape, the dirt /shale of the regions, and showed us a map of the regions. I also loved the cheeses, almonds, and truffles too. I bought a Groupon for 10 tastings and have been to about 7 so far. I've been extremely impressed with the tastings. Jaye selects a grape varietal and then chooses wines from different regions so you really understand how the grape can change based on the region and what the winemaker does. This is so much better than going to tastings where you taste a merlot, cab, zin, etc and can't keep them straight. All tastings are blind so you have no preconceptions. I've never been a big Cabernet Sauvignon fan but definitely found a couple I really liked during Jaye's cab tasting! Jaye has opened my eyes! I'm now much better about at least trying a cab before I say no to it! And Jaye sends out detailed notes so you know exactly which wines you tasted and where to buy them. I've learned a lot about the varietals we've tasted. I'm also learning a lot about my palate and preferences. That makes it a lot easier when you're in a wine bar/wine shop and someone asks what you're looking for in a wine. Now I can give specifics (ex French oak vs American oak, minerality, acidity, etc) so it's much easier to get a good recommendation. Classes are fun, energetic and engaging. Had a tasting this weekend and had a great time. The host is incredibly friendly and knowledgable, as much passion and information for wine as a tasting we had in Paris. If you truly want to learn about wine, this is the class to take. Very cool NYC atmosphere - GREAT wine, GREAT cheese, and a very open and fun experience, not stuffy at all. Definitely worth checking out even if you don't love wine, you may learn to find one that you do. Recommend highly. read more

I have gone to 5 classes so far and have learned so much each time. Jaye's passion for wine is contagious and her explanations relatable. Learning wine by the grape makes so much sense and it's fascinating to see how the same grape changes by region. The class environment is fun, relaxed, informative and as interactive as you want it to be. The food pairings with the wines are also awesome. It's amazing to experiment with all of the samples selected for each wine and to see how the flavor changes with each one. To top if off, Jaye sends detailed notes, including recipes, so you can always go back for reference. I can now read wine labels with knowledge and confidence. After I wrote the review, the owner/wine connoisseur of Proud Wineaux Jaye responded immediately. She not only commented on my yelp review, but made sure to reach out via Email to personally apologize for the inconvenience and offered me a free make-up class any time I wished. She even mentioned she wouldn't mind hosting a private one just for me and a friend if I cannot make any of the ones on the website, so I could really get the benefit of the class. When I did show up for their Sunday class, I was extremely pleased. The setting was intimate, Jaye was a fantastic teacher, both personable and knowledgeable. We tasted three different kinds of Chardonnay from three different regions, with an assortment of cheese/dried fruits for pairing ideas. I thought the class was fantastic, it was relaxing and I felt like I learnt alot without any pressure, or pretension often involved in wine tasting. On top of that, after the class, Jaye made sure to follow up with me again just to ask about my experience and for honest feedback. I realise it is a growing business and I really applaud Jaye's approach and attitude. To me, this is customer service at its best and I cannot ask for more. Recent took the yoga and wine class with one of my friends and had a great time. It was very relaxing and the wine pairings were great. My friend and I both said this would be a great night with our respective men as well (the yoga is more about stretching and relaxing than getting all bent out of shape). The staff is also pretty chill and made it super fun. The class itself starts you from the bottom up and really teaches a lot about the wine tasting process. Even though I knew quite a bit about how to taste wine (I've done a lot of tasting around various wine regions of the country), I still learned a lot. The pours were also generous. My only criticism? More pairings! (But you know, I am a wineaux after all. Can't ever get enough. ;) ) read more

I booked a private wine and cheese tasting class for four people and all of us had a great time. We learned a lot about how different pairings bring out or subdue subtle notes in the wine as well as about the wine itself. I had heard about Proud Wineaux through a couple of friends that purchased classes but didn't expect it to be as awesome as it was. I love how Jaye brought the pairings to life with small items that help you understand how best to enjoy wine. This was an amazing experience....Now the reason I gave 5stars was not only because of the expierence but also because of Jaye's personality and her personal experience with wine was amazingly outstanding. Jaye was such a delightful surprise! My friends and I booked one of her wine tasting classes through Groupon and had no idea what to expect from the experience, but we are so happy we went, met Jaye, and had the best two hours of our lives talking about different types of Sauvignon Blancs and having the most fascinating wine pairings. Just think - lime and wine! She's incredibly knowledgable and has obviously traveled to different vineyards both domestically and internationally and brings her passion for the topic into the session. Jaye and her team put on a great holiday party for us! They found us a great space, decorated it into a winter wonderland, put together a playlist just to our specifications, cranked out delicious food and the staff were all so personable. But what made it really different was the education that the somms gave us at each of the pairing stations - first Jaye herself with the great flight pairing with several scrumptious and unusual amuse bouche and then so much fun to try the reds with cotton candy, the sparkling with citrus and the white with roasted marshmallows and how that changed the profile of each wine. They were very attentive to what we wanted for our party in the planning process and delivered not just what we expected (and we had high expectations) and then some. Contrary to the negative review listed below, if you actually go take this class you will never regret it nor forget it! First of all, the host in incredibly engaging, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about wine. She knows exactly which cheeses and fruit go with different types of wines and she even handmakes the most amazing tapas! She will definitely make you laugh and I guarantee you will walk away remembering fun facts about the history, origin, and types of grapes used to make wine. And I just love her stories about her experiences as a sommelier at Jean Georges and different vineyards she's been to. Never a dull moment, I highly recommend this class! read more

Just finished another Proud Wineaux class, and I am more than happy to promote the best wine tasting I have ever experienced. Jaye teaches with such ease and enthusiasm. Not only do you learn in a friendly manner, but she makes the class very easy and fun. She adds in all the wine terminology but integrates them in a fun filled descriptive way that doesn't take away from the goals of the class. The goal of the class is obviously to drink great wine, learn about the grape and region and then learn about how pairing this wine enhances the tasting. I specifically learned about regions and how that will affect a grape and change the taste and texture of a wine (environmental differences and old vines versus new vines) and I learned about pairings that simply elevate and transform the food and wine alike (wines have tannins that can give it a bitter taste just like tea and this is why many times you pair wine with cheese just like tea and milk). It is noteworthy that this was my second class and I'm even more impressed with this one than the first. We discussed and tasted Chenin Blanc and I am currently using the Proud Wineaux discount to buy some for myself. I have drank wine before but I have never understood what I should be looking for and the differences that may may occur by region and by the process used to make that wine. Thanks to this brilliant class, I am starting to get a handle on wine and am enjoying the regions and pairing combinations. This class is a must for anyone who loves wine or is a novice. Jaye, the teacher and wine enthusiast, will help you to appreciate the wine while using your own senses to discover what the wine is about. This is also a great class to take your family to or to take a special someone in your life. She also emails you a full recap of the wines tasted, the regions discussed and any other information mentioned in the class. This was and is by far one of the best experiences I've ever had and I hope to attend many more of her classes. I have been to many wine tastings. This by far has been the best one!! From the atmosphere created by Jaye and her staff to the food and especially to the wine! This was the perfect evening!!! Jaye is so incredibly knowledgable and personable that she made this event so enjoyable!! I learned a lot and found out I knew a little more than I thought. This has by far been the worst experience I've ever had in booking a wine tasting. I tried to redeem a voucher for a wine class for 2 and was met with confusion by the person on the phone and over email over date availabilities. One conversation the woman offered to put me on a wait list and the next she told me a wait list didn't exist. I was told the offer would be extended by the 'grace of the owner' as if they were doing me a favor. The reality is, they didn't have any class openings and acted like it was my problem. When I checked in a month later after I didn't hear from them (knowing that my voucher was extended), I was told that 'they are an event company, not a company that offers wine classes', and I am out of luck. What's even worse, is that since I gave them my voucher and pin number, they redeemed the voucher to collect the money. What a terrible sham. I would never, EVER do business with these people. read more
