Had a very poor experience at the City Dental DC. Had a botched dental procedure which likely due to doctor's work stress, overwork and distractions. Later it had to be redone, which they did do within their guarantee period. Later when I changed dental office, learned that the procedure still had fault. It had to be redone again by a different denstist at this new clinic! What a total waste of time, inconvenience and resources. May be there was issue to begin but that was not certainly explained! Hope people do not rush into the procedure before understanding pros and cons, and also ensure procedures are done right without RUSH and distractions. read more

It's a shame that I have to write a less than stellar review because I really like my dentist. I opted to do the Invisalign treatment after speaking with my dentist. The cost was steep but my insurance covered enough to make it worth while. I am quite happy with the treatment and outcomes. BUT The office manager has been an absolute nightmare to work with. Had to pay for the entirety of my treatment out of pocket because the manager could not seem to file the right paperwork with my insurance company. I was finally able to get everything to my insurance company and they authorized payment, which went to the dentist's office. I am now fighting to get my money from the dentist's office. I saw Dr Tsaknis when I first moved to DC. He told me I needed about 800 worth of fillings and didn't offer payment plans, and said using a regular toothbrush was for babies, not adults as he peddled the expensive electric toothbrushes in his office. I stopped going because of how off putting and aggressive he was. Recently finally started going to the dentist again many years later, and don't need any dental work. No fillings my teeth are great. Dr. John Tsaknis is by far the best and most thorough dentist I've ever gone to and I highly recommended him. If you're looking for a dentist - don't look any further and go see him. Dr. Tsaknis genuinely cares about his patients. He takes time to educate, explain basics, investigate and address the root cause of issues, and empower his patients to improve their overall dental and oral health. At my first visit to City Dental DC the staff took images behind my teeth with this cool little camera device and took X-rays. Dr. Tsaknis pulled up the images/X-rays on a large screen to ask questions, review my oral health history, point things out to me, and spend time educating and sharing ways to improve my dental care regiment. On subsequent visits, he has continued to take time for patient education on things like reviewing the dos and don't of proper flossing and electronic toothbrush use. Of note, there's free parking behind the building for patients that's identified for City Dental DC. And if you park in back you can use the back entrance to enter the office. In short, DC City Dental provides thorough, friendly, and customer-focused dental care and you should definitely give them a try. read more

Dr. T had no receptionist when I entered the office. Although I was a bit late (trouble finding parking), he sat with me in a treatment room and gave me an expansive sales spiel about how great he was, how great & leading-edge the products he uses, and implied that previous dental care & products I had received were inferior. This was vastly different than my expectations, which was to have a serious evaluation of whether I would be a good candidate for a dental appliance. He didn't even look in my mouth. He said he didn't have the time or staff to do that in this visit. I'd have to set another appt to do that. (But he did say the cost of what I needed was going to be $5345. Without looking in my mouth.) And oh by the way, the $193 fee I was quoted when I made this appt for this so-called evaluation-turned-sales-pitch had gone up to $207. When asked, he told me they do not accept my insurance as payment-in-full, but would be willing to send an predetermination of benefits to find out how much they would pay. That could take almost 30-days, but they would do it. It has been nearly 8 weeks since the appt & have not received info on pre-determination of insurance coverage. Left a follow-up message on Aug 23 asking about the results of estimate...call still not returned. Also, he said as I was leaving they have free parking in the back, but no one told me...another $18 wasted! read more

I went to Dr. Tsaknis looking to have a crooked front tooth pulled and replaced with an implant, as that tooth had aesthetically been a mess and bothered me for some time. While he said we could do that and provided me a quote for the work, he strongly recommended invisalign instead. I took his recommendation and I couldn't be happier! Not only did his recommendation save me $4000, it also improved the alignment of all my other teeth and saved me from going without a tooth for a full year. Its not often that a dentist or doctor recommends a lower cost option when you walk into the office with a specific request, but Dr. Tsaknis did and it was absolutely the right solution to my problem. I changed jobs and was forced to leave my beloved dentist. I went here a few times for a cleaning and every time they would tell me I had another cavity. I didn't believe them because I had a solid track record for years so was surprised to learn all of a sudden I had cavities. When I kept refusing, they kept pushing. Because I did not believe them I went to another dentist to get a second opinion who confirmed I had no cavities. You can't trust this practice. Reading other reviews I see many people had the same experience. I did like my hygenist here - Lauren, but the front desk was just a hot mess. They cancelled one of my appointments without telling me. I had to give them my social security number 3 separate times! And still was asked to pay cash for my appointment, even though I had insurance! I also felt the dentist touched me too much when talking to me. He'd tap my shoulder or my thigh, it was just a little uncomfortable. Even though I've left this practice awhile ago, they won't stop contacting me to come back. read more

Our family have been patients of Dr Tsaknis for 6 years now. We have all enjoyed their thorough cleaning services, competent staff, easy to make appointments process, Appt reminder emails, free WiFi (a must for our children), friendly employees, and dental recommendations. We have rarely had to wait in the lobby area - but if you do, there are cable televisions (and small toys) to keep one occupied. Initially, I thought this office location would be inconvenient for anyone not living in the neighborhood. I was wrong. Honestly the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist. They will try to schedule multiple appointments to accomplish what every other dentist can accomplish in one (they wanted me to schedule multiple appointments cause they couldn't take x-rays of my teeth and clean them in the same appointment, despite every other dentist managing to do so). They will push you to spend as much as possible. Their tactics make me seriously doubt the legitimacy of any of their dental diagnoses (I can imagine them telling you you have 12 cavities and that it is critical that they take out all your teeth, give you dentures, and that those dentures will need braces immediately). There are better dentists with better intentions. Go elsewhere. read more

Seriously, they charged me so much (e.g. one filling was laser cut and cost me about $1,600.00, I didn't find out until afterwards that my insurance didn't cover most of this), and did so much damage to my teeth here that it just completely put me off dentists. They wanted to charge me a lot more to fix the damage that they actually did in my mouth that I ended up just going and getting a full set of implants from another more reputable dentist. read more

CityDental has masterfully placed locations in convenient areas for working professionals, making for the easiest of access. I also frequently see their advertisements at my local Safeway. What really solidified my decision to use "Dr. T" was CD's Google reviews -- 4.0 stars. This dentistry is a great illusion. Do not fall for them for the same reasons I stated above. The entire operation is an unpleasant sham. Bedside Manner. Excluding one receptionist named Jason, the staff are out of sync. I could go into granular detail, but I will only note the most memorable: my x-ray technician did not care about comfort levels, and ignored me when I told her the mouth piece was uncomfortably piercing the roof of my mouth. She also was in such a rush (they definitely overbook, and that's made evident within the 1st five minutes) and her tone was extremely impatient and unprofessional. A bizarre experience. Dr. T: He comes off as a condescending salesman. I am in my mid-twenties, and he made sure to excessively mention that whenever possible. I sensed no respect from him. He was engaging with me as if I were a child, rather than a young professional -- or more importantly, as his patient. He attempted to upsell me several times and mentioned my insurance even more so. I understand that information is useful when discussing procedures, but there is a heavy emphasis on insurance payouts at this practice. Medical Analysis. I have never had a cavity, but it had been several years since I had seen a dentist and anticipated some bad news due to my absence. My X Rays, however, showed no damage. I did have one spot on a tooth, and Dr. T told me we "might as well fill it in while he's in there (referencing my cleaning)." Procedure. The filling procedure was abysmal. They numbed me before the hygienist began my cleaning. That meant for 35+ minutes, I was uncomfortably receiving a cleaning while partially numb. By the time the Dr. came in, I was not fully numb, and could feel the drilling. He was yelling at his Staff about my not being numb enough. Also, the procedure was entirely rushed. Based on office chatter, it was clear that there was confusion re which room I should have been in, the timing of other patients' procedures, etc. Needless to say, there were probably others waiting to be seen yet already numbed for their procedures. After approximately five painful minutes, when he was "done," I told him I could still feel the filling in my mouth. He hastily drilled me down; I could still feel it. He drilled more.. I could still feel it. He reattempted 3 times before I could no longer feel the filling. Almost 2 weeks later, I am in so much pain from my likely unnecessary and shoddy procedure. After my appointment, I looked up the practice on Yelp, where the reviews accurately reflect this dentistry. Hundreds of reviews all affirm that 1) the staff is unprofessional and disorganized; 2) Dr. T's bedside manner is bizarre and unsettling; 3) misdiagnoses of cavities, wherein patients sought a second opinion from a different dentist; 4) rushed procedures; and 5) money-hungry insurance collectors. I also took another look at those Google reviews. Not only does Dr. T violate HIPPA when he discloses patient's medical records or histories when responding to negative reviews, but there seems to be fake reviews posted on Google as well. There are a few instances where the same user has recently given two different dentists 5-star reviews within the same time-frame (why would a person go to 2 different dentists 3 mos. apart?), and there was also an overlap in reviewed locations (e.g. multiple reviewers who have only reviewed CityDental and a frame shop, photographer, etc). Notwithstanding that, the majority of reviewers have only reviewed CityDental -- this could indicate click-farm behavior. There are obvious suspicions when looking at the Google reviews -- especially considering that ALL other websites have City Dental at 2 or lower stars. This was one of the worst medical experiences of my life, and I strongly recommend that potential patients to exhaustively review the available reviews before visiting this practice. read more

STAY AWAY!! The employees at this office do not care about patient health and their front desk staff are TERRIBLE with scheduling. On April 4, I was told that I need fillings and to schedule an appointment ASAP, so I scheduled an appointment for May 6. DentalBug emailed and cancelled my May 6 appointment, saying that they had changed their schedule. I responded and asked for another time with NO RESPONSE. On May 4 I responded again and asked for May 20, only to be told that they had unilaterally scheduled me for May 13. I had previously scheduled travel for May 13 so I asked for the next available appointment since at this point, I have needed fillings for over a month. DentalBug then finally scheduled me for May 15. I started having cold symptoms yesterday (May 14) and called today asking to reschedule my appointment since I am currently mouth breathing and congested. The staff indicated that there is a $55 same-day cancellation policy regardless of patient safety concerns. They could not care less about the fact that I am currently mouth breathing and do not feel comfortable having dental work performed in this compromised immune state. STAY AWAY! WORST customer service ever, all they care about is their bottom line. They do NOT care about patient health. read more

Judging by other reviews, the fake cavity is common here. The same thing happened to me--one completely normal appointment for a cleaning, six months later I'm told I have 3 cavities (new dentist says I'm in the clear--cavity-free). Against the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, I scheduled an appointment for the fillings. A woman who barely spoke English and had to communicate in Spanish with another technician was in charge of prepping me. What they didn't know what that I speak Spanish, and thus could understand what she was saying and thus became more and more frightened in the chair by her lack of dentistry knowledge. After almost numbing the wrong side of my mouth and the novocaine shots not working (to which Dr. Tsaknis told me he couldn't figure out why that was the case), I decided to listen to my gut and leave. On the plus side, they didn't charge me. I'm guessing they knew I was sketched out and they weren't on the up and up because no one called me to reschedule after the receptionist said they would. I arrived very disappointed, imagining that I would have to make 2 root canal, spend a fortune, but no, he managed to save my tooth! I can't do anything about the other five that are already filled, but figured I'd update my review to warn others. I should've gotten a second opinion after my very first appointment. I really like this Dental practice. I initially saw Dr White in Penn Quarter. He was awesome and, if not for limited office hours at this location, I would have happily continued to see Dr White. I switched over to the Massachusetts location to accommodate my schedule and Dr Tsaknis is really great. He takes the time to look beyond the quick fix and give confidence that decisions are being made for long term dental health. I initially wwnt to City Dental for the convenient location but I'm very happy to be in such capable hands. Also, just a call out...I don't know her name, but the front desk manager at the Massachusetts location is amazing. She remembers my name and is such a friendly person. A true gem. read more

About a year ago, a dentist at this practice told me I had six (!) cavities that would need expensive, specialized fillings. Having never had a cavity before, I thought this was strange but trusted them. Due to general life obligations and my teeth looking and feeling fine, I never got them filled and ended up going to two other dentists over the past year -- each who I said I had no cavities at all. This would have been a five-star review if it weren't for Dr. Tsaknis, The Angry Dentist (tm). Dr. Jeanette Suh, her assistant and the front office were all great. Unfortunately, I learned after the appointment that my insurance only fully covered fillings done using a cheaper material than had been used. (I hadn't been told of this beforehand.) I wrote Dr. Tsaknis a note saying that, although I really liked the staff, the upgrading of materials without advance notice left a bad taste in my mouth. The difference in cost wouldn't have been a big deal -- except Tsaknis personally called me to be hilariously rude. Over the course of a 15 minute conversation, Tsaknis accused me of making "threats" and "blackmail" for having written that I wouldn't recommend his firm based on its business practices. He also went on to question whether I was employable. I couldn't believe I was hearing this from a dentist. (And yes, I do have a job -- but that's not the point.) The funniest thing about this is that he seemed really, really worried about me leaving bad reviews for him online -- he kept bringing it up -- yet he couldn't seem to stop insulting me. At the end of last year, I came in for my bi-annual cleaning which included a laser decay analysis. For whatever reason, Dr. Tsaknis came in to discuss the results instead of my appointed dentist. We got off on the wrong foot when Dr. Tsaknis asked me, "Were you a good girl this year? Did you get everything you wanted from Santa?" I responded with my usual snarkiness, pointing out that as a professional woman with a job, I did not need to wait for Santa to buy me presents. The exam continued to go downhill after that. Dr. Tsaknis looked at the laser decay analysis and found 6 cavities that needed immediate intervention. He pressed me to schedule the procedures right away or I would be looking at root canals in the future. I made follow up appointments but did not feel right about the interaction. After some thought, I postponed my follow-up meetings with Dr. Tsaknis and scheduled an appointment for a second opinion with a dentist at another office. I had x-rays done and the second dentist found no cavities. Due to this uncomfortable interaction with Dr. Tsaknis and misdiagnosis, I am no longer a patient and I would not recommend others to this practice. read more

NEVER GO HERE. Dr. Tsaknis changed the name of his practice which clearly goes to show that he is trying to clean up his name in this area... Anyways, I had been going to this dentist practice for about two years, until Dr. Tsaknis messed up the surface a filling (that he told me was not critical and I could wait to get it done or just knock it out- which is what i ended up doing). When I went back for him to fix it, he got extremely frustrated (threw something on the side table) that he messed it up originally, and drilled down to close the nerve which caused throbbing pain. I called Dr. T the next morning, and he never returned my call. So I continued calling and ended up coming back into the office for an Xray and check up with Dr. Jefferson because the pain hadn't stopped. Well come to find out from the dental hygienist and Dr. J, I needed to get a root canal done because of this messed up filling. DentalBug went radio silent on me for a couple days even though I kept calling to find out what the next step should be. For 3 days, I did not hear a word. Then a Friday afternoon around 6pm, Dr. Tsaknis calls and leaves a message saying that he had just heard I was trying to call (this was after I called their office at least 5-6 times and left voicemails all week for someone to call back). When we talked the next morning, he told me that it wasn't his fault and that I needed to get a root canal which he should've suggested in the first place. He clearly forgot that he originally told me the cavity wasn't deep yet and I could've waited to get the filling for another 6 months... well $2000+ out of my own pocket and 3-4 months of pain, I finally am better. But i will never recommended this dental practice to anyone ever again. They were extremely sketchy, unprofessional, and rude. I recommend to anyone looking for a dentist in DC to look elsewhere because there are so many better places. read more

My husband just started coming here and he had a really good experience (this from a man with a severe fear of dentists). The doctor was cordial, staff was very professional with me when I called to make the appointment, office was nice, good location. The best part, though, is that they did my husband's exam, x-rays AND filled two cavities all in one appt. without making him come back. That's rare - they always want to parcel it out into a million appointments and this dentist didn't. If your time is rather valuable and you want to be served in a nice office with competent staff, this is a good place to come. read more

I waited months to write this review so that I could do it with a level head and clear mind. My bottom teeth began hurting excessively (with swelling from an obvious abscess) and I saw a dentist in Dr. Tsaknis' practice on an emergency basis. After a prescription for an antibiotic and a set of X-rays, the initial dentist suggested I just have them pulled. It was a frightening thought for me and I was scared. I am also extremely phobic of dentists and have a very difficult time dealing with dental pain, so all of this added up to a really scared grown woman facing something she didn't want to. I went back to Dr. Tsaknis for the consult and explained what the previous dentist recommended. He was having no part of that and explained that it would be better to save the teeth. Would he have pulled them if I insisted? Yeah, I'm sure. Would it have been the cheaper and more immediate solution? Yes again. I will give it to some of these reviewers, he's nice, but he could certainly be less intimidating of a person. He's not perfect. If I had written this review in March, it probably would have been a bit different because I was frustrated and in a tremendous amount of pain, but I'm also a realist and understand that this dentist didn't actually CAUSE me the pain - I did. I created a difficult and complicated dental situation to which Dr. Tsaknis responded in the manner he thought was best. Look, if you need a hand-holding dentist, then I can honestly say this guy is probably not your best bet. If you need a dentist who will go out of his way to do whatever he can to fix your dental issues, he's the guy to go to. Was it super cheap? Nope, but also no more expensive than any other dentist in the greater Washington DC area for the work I had done. Am I happy when I run my tongue along my bottom teeth and still have them? Stay away. Especially Federal Employees with GEHA!! I've finally had it with this place. I just walked out of the D Street office having had to pay a balance for 3 years worth of serious dental work. Work that after every visit I had asked "how much do i owe?" and every time they said you look good we will submit the claim. Not a single bill ever showed up to my house or was I asked to pay off my balance during the dozen or so visits I have had over my time there. The office staff is different with every visit. They've admitted to me that they screwed up my insurance claims for years. The differ everything to the office manager who is imposible to reach and will not call you back. There's no email to reach anyone. They don't follow up and your left with half-finished procedures like my debridlement, which after being half completed I had to have redone... by a different hygienist of course. This is extremely expensive! It's a one life-time procedure, the second time is out of pocket!! Dr. Tsaknis cannot retain a staff with any working knowledge of the claims procedures at his office and his turn over must be especially high because I can count on one hand how many people I've had more than a few interactions with. This includes Hygienists but especially the office staff processing your claims. How about dentists? I have seen 4 in 3 years!! Can we say too big too fast? He seems more focused on opening new locations than keeping consistent Dentists at each location. Despite countless computer entries and annotation, no one seems to know what's going on with my mouth. Everyone who sits me down in the chair has to process this information each time I visit and they ask me redundant basic questions that I answered on my first consultation. read more

I had two cleanings here, which were fine. However, during my last visit, Dr. Tsaknis told me much to my surprise that I have 5 cavities. I have not had a cavity in years and in general take good care of my teeth. Dr. Tsaknis didn't even really look inside my mouth - he just used the Spectra infrared images of my teeth which were hastily taken by the hygienist. Then, while I was still laying horizontally, he put a chart in front of my face that said any reading above a 1.5 on the scale means the tooth needs a filling, and I had five spots that read above 1.5. I was told I should get them done ASAP, and also that I need a night guard from clinching, which a mysterious $200 "upgrade" fee was added on that no one could explain to me. In all, a simple cleaning was turning into a $700 out-of-pocket ordeal. I decided to go get a second opinion at another local dentist. He looked at every proposed cavity from Dr. Tsaknis and was completely perplexed - not a single cavity. The hygenists are friendly and the office is nice, but who cares if the guy running the show is a crook. Beware! read more

I have been going here for about three years, but unfortunately recently had to switch because of new insurance (they are no longer in-network, meaning obnoxious paperwork and possible higher out of pocket costs). It really is just too bad, because this is a great dental practice, and I have had nothing but positive experiences. The office is easily accessible via Metro, and they definitely have all the latest equipment and technology. I've never had a problem getting an early appointment, which I know can sometimes be difficult to do with doctors' offices. And they're very good about keeping on time with appointments - I have never had to wait very long. They always send reminder postcards when you're due for a six-month cleaning and also always call a day or two before the appointment as a confirmation/reminder. Everyone is very friendly, especially the office receptionist/manager Valerie, the hygienists do a very thorough job with the six-month cleanings, and the dentists (I usually see Dr. Tsaknis, but one time it was someone else - can't remember his name) are very good about answering questions, making recommendations (such as fillings for cavities, nightguards for teeth grinding), and explaining why they're recommending something, going over x-rays, etc. I've had several fillings done here and have always been pleased with the results. I've also never had any issues/problems with billing/insurance. If you have any questions about your insurance, what it will/won't cover and how much, etc., definitely ask Valerie - she's very knowledgeable about all that and always takes the time to look stuff up and make sure you're getting the correct information. Dr Tsaknis and his staff are really great. It's always easy there. I live an hour away (Ashburn) and make a special trip to go to him. I wouldn't go anywhere else! I had not been to the dentist for years and needed a little bit of work to get me back on track (a few cavities, a root canal/crown) Dr. John (Tsaknis) was really great about explaining what was going on, and when I had questions he went into detail to help me understand. He decoded/explained my benefits and worked with me to prioritize work so that I would be within my insurance which saved me a chunk of change. He is very knowledgeable about what he does, and he is a very personable guy that makes going to the dentist a good experience. read more

Recently moved to DC and needed a dentist. Found City Dental DC through my insurance and made a quick first appointment. I filled out my new patient forms before my appointment so check in was quick and easy. My hygienist Lauren was awesome - so sweet and talkative and made me feel more comfortable. I should preface this by saying that I hate dentists. I mean, I think most people do, but having gone to weird/unpleasant dentists throughout my childhood particularly turned me against the profession. I found Tsaknis Dental through my dental insurance provider. When I called them up, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get an appointment for the following week--the evil dentists who I saw as a kid had a months-long waiting list! I came in, and both the hygienist (don't remember her name) and the dentist (Dr. Iman Ayoubi) were great. Both of them were friendly and put me at ease. They were very comprehensive and thorough, but managed to be efficient at the same time, meaning I didn't have to use up my entire lunch break for the appointment. Overall, I was very satisfied with the service, and scheduled my next appointment with them that day. Plus, I think it's kind of adorable that they give you a "goody bag" at the end, filled with toothpaste, a toothbrush, and dental floss. Personally I like it better when goody bags have candy in them...but hey, it's the dentist. read more

Just ok. Dr. Tsaknis and team did some things well and some things badly. I had less-than-great experiences at the D Street location; better experience at the 1221 Mass location, and never visited the L'Enfant Plaza location. Dr. Tsaknis was recommended to me by one of the attorneys I work for. I was previously going to a dentist who was good but you had to do all your own paperwork and I really didn't like that. Tsaknis Dental will do the insurance paperwork for you for the nominal fee of $16, which to me is well worth it. Valerie at the desk and Ana, the dental assistant, are angels. I had a cleaning with I think her name was Shelly? and she was so much fun. How often do you have fun getting your teeth cleaned? Tsaknis Dental is convenient to my downtown DC office and I can always get an appointment time that's good for me. It's also convenient to the metro. The office is very clean and recently redecorated and has all the newest high tech equipment, including a tv in every room. Which at first I didn't like, because I don't like daytime tv. But Dr. Tsaknis has a nice, relaxed, confident, way about him, very workmanlike, goes in and does what needs to be done, occasionally glancing at the tv or making comments, and somehow it helps me relax, so now I don't mind the tv while I'm there. Dr. Tsaknis explains things really well -- he always has an example to illustrate what he's talking about -- he knows what he's talking about -- he also has a good sense of humor -- and he always smells like soap. He has put a new crown on a old broken crowned tooth that I was just sure could not be saved, and it fit right the first time with no adjustments needed. He's done a couple of root canals on my teeth and at least one filling. Zero problems with any of it. He's the dentist I recommend. read more

There are two things I've learned about people in the DC area since moving here from Michigan. The first thing, everybody is an "Expert" on about 10 different things and the second is that the majority of these experts also have terrible oral hygiene. It isn't a surprise to me that people are complaining about false cavities and other major "unnecessary" procedures, you know, because they are experts. My brother is a Dentist and I can't imagine a Dentist risking his license and practice by falsely diagnosing cavities. This office is always very busy. Every employee including Dr. Tsaknis is moving from patient to the next. He isn't there putting together pretty bouquets of flowers, he is clearly just trying to clean up some dirty mouths. Here is some insight, they do some sort of computer imagery of your teeth which shows bacteria in or on your teeth. This level of bacteria is what is used to determine if the tooth has a cavity. From there you get to make a decision that's best for you. I've been going to the office on Mass Ave for the past few years and I always leave feeling like I was truly taken care of. Zero stars. I had a horrible experience here. The dental hygienist staff was professional and did a good job, however the dentist at this practice was deplorable. He was condescending and unkind and touched my shoulder and arm unnecessarily in what was clearly a power move motivated by patriarchy. I was told I had 10+ cavities and when I became upset the dentist mocked me and belittled me. I got a second opinion and was told that I do not have any cavities. It seems like this practice is taking advantage of patients in a manipulative and unethical way. I read several other reviews of people who had similar experiences. read more

Despite the professionalism that I experienced from Justin (the receptionist), Dr. Tsaknis on the other hand often speaks over you and will ensure to get his point across, often times mentioning that he is experienced clinician and knows what he is talking about. Having been a patient under Dr. Suh two years ago I returned to Dental Bug having experienced many complications with a routine filling that I received from her. During the current visit I met directly with Dr. Tsaknis. After explaining to him about the extent of my discomfort and eventual root canal following my filling from Dr. Suh, Dr. Tsaknis immediately interrupted me. Without showing any empathy or validating my concerns, he quickly expressed how poorly the dental work was, that I had received prior to coming in. It was unlike anything he had seen before. In his opinion, there would be nothing that he would be able to do for me other than provide me with a referral to an endodontist. He stated that I had allowed another dentist to provide subpar treatment to my symptomatic tooth and that I could have avoided this entirely if I had better self-managed my tooth. I had never experienced this form of care from a medical professional in my life. His complete disregard towards my concerns and overemphasis about the poor dental care that I received from another dentist, left me completely dissatisfied and upset. I write this review as I believe a patient's experience with a clinician plays a major role on the outcome of care and overall prognosis of treatment. I do not endorse Dr. Tsaknis as a dentist and caution you if you decide to visit the clinic. read more

I went to Tsanknis Dental Group about 6 months ago because it was the only dentist's office I could walk to from my office, which sounded wonderful at the time. Once in the dental chair, the hygienist began to tell me about her recent marriage and pregnancy, while playing around in my mouth with sharp objects. When she was "done", my mouth didn't even feel clean. She then tried to sell me an overpriced toothbrush. Then the dentist came in. He inspected my mouth, took some pictures, and used some nifty contraptions. Afterward, he told me I had 4 to 5 cavities, and that I should get them taken care of in the next two months (I hadn't had a cavity since middle school, and take excellent care of my teeth). Shocked, I scheduled my next appointment and left. After thinking about it, I decided to call my dentist at home in the North East, who had seen me about 8 months earlier. He directed me to get a second opinion in DC, which I did. New x-rays were taken, and a full inspection of my teeth was done. Not a SINGLE cavity was found. Tsanknis Dental Group has a beautiful office, kind staff, and convenient location. That being said, I will NEVER use them again, nor will I recommend anyone to use them. Had I gone back to get these "cavities" filled, I would've been "fixing" perfectly good teeth. These medical professionals should be ashamed. read more

Dr. Tasaknis is interested in one thing: getting the most money out of you as a patient as possible. He will therefore recommend extra, unnecessary dental work to your mouth that is not needed. For example, on my last visit, he said that I had two "cavities" but that there are two other teeth that will eventually need to be filled so he "might as well fill them while [he's] in there." I'm no expert, but that is DEFINITELY not a recommendation that is in my best interest or based on best practices within the dental industry. Additionally, this practice recommended that I have gum surgury with a periodontist who BOTCHED the surgury, which I ultimately still had to pay for (+$400) which was ineffective and did not work. Stay away from this dentist and if you already go there, be VERY skeptical of any recommendations that come from Dr. Taskanis and his attempts to manipulate you and your wallet. read more

The staff at this dental office are all top notch with one monumental exception: Tsaknis himself. I started coming here a couple years ago because it was close to my office but one visit of being personally insulted by Dr Tsaknis was enough for me. He mistreats his employees, berating them in front of patients and its amazing he is still in business. His unprofessionalism is astounding. I started coming only when Dr Ayoubi was there because she is wonderful. Today she was out and Tsaknis assured it was my last trip there. I have been steering friends and colleagues away for a while but decided Yelp would be more efficient. Avoid at all costs. read more

I need to start off by saying that Tsaknis Dental group provides clean, professional, and quality service...however they are car salesmen in scrubs. I dont want my dentist to upsell me while im lying on my back and my mouth propped open. This isnt a fast food restaurant where they are trying to entice me to get the jalapeno poppers, so when youre in the middle of cleaning my teeth, dont say 'hey you want me to perform this type of treatment for $50 bucks more' or 'do u want to try this preventative method for $150 bucks more'. Thats not the place for that. I cant make financial decisions while in that position. Break things down for me before i sit down in the chair. Let me know what youre offering, what my options are and what my out of pocket costs will be. But no, they want to wait until youre in a vulnerable position before they bombard you with "super size" requests. My wife went there for follow up treatment where they told her that she would only pay $50 deductible. However, when she was done, they charged her $200. We were blown away! When asked why, they said it was because my insurance company wasnt covering 100% of their services because of the quality of the type of work they were doing. That is understandable, but they knew about this before my wife went in for service...so why couldnt they share this with us at that time so we can properly explore our options? That would seem like the decent thing to do. Dont tell me youre going to charge me one thing and when its done then you charge me 300% more! Thats not how you do business, thats how u hustle.
