The dental assistant who met me shortly after arrival was friendly, informative and very effective in taking me through her preparation and process. I went to this dentist twice (the first time my insurance was in-network, the second time it was not), but I was only told AFTER my second visit that my insurance was no longer in-network. I wouldn't have done the cleaning/xrays if I had known beforehand that my insurance was no longer in-network. The subsequent back-and-forth with the office was not at all pleasant, and I ended up having to pay the full amount out-of-pocket. Moreover, the cleaning I received wasn't great. read more

This was a fantastic experience! Like many, I loathe going to the dentist. I've, unfortunately, had too many experiences with dentists in my life (are any of my teeth real?) and I was met with misfortune in most of those dental experiences. But District Dental sets the standard for dental care. Hands down, this is definitely one of the best experiences I've had in DC. It may even be one of the best I've had in general! The front desk staff was great! The dental assistants are very professional, skilled, and friendly. My dentist was Dr. Matt G. and never have I had the problem, rationale, and procedural steps explained to me in such a clear manner. Some dentists speak to you as though you were sitting next to them in their dental classes but Dr. Gialanella understands that when he shows you an x-ray, you may not know what you're looking at -- he made it easy to understand for the layperson which helped me trust the process. He was attentive, gentle, and totally trustworthy. Vanessa is also great. You can tell she really cares about the integrity of her work, which made me relax -- well as much as one can when sitting in a dental chair. I was referred to Dr. Schobel by my oral surgeon after getting an implant - he asked who I planned to get the crown with & when I said I guess X and he said yes, you could go back to him, but why not go to someone who's really good? I never realized how much pure technical skill matters until I went to Dr. Schobel. I thought that previous dentist was great because he was very nice and super accommodating of my hyper-sensitivity, even though I had to go back to adjust the filling because of vague tension headaches. One of the first things Schobel did, before doing the crown on my implant, was cut a filling that guy placed by a third - it was hanging over like an iceberg. Tension headache gone. I've gotten multiple crowns & replacement fillings with Dr. Schobel, and all but one have been flawless (the exception was a more complicated case with a previous implant which broke in a very weird way & was not initially caught because it was next to another damaged tooth - it took a few sessions to sort out, but we did get it done & no more issues). I trust Dr. Schobel more than any dentist I've had about the technical aspects of dentistry. Part of this is that he takes part in ongoing continuing education meetings which to my view is essential to maintaining skills. Moreover none of my previous dentists had ever taken the long view & talked to me about my specific tooth health profile beyond whatever they were fixing that visit. He lays out different options and lets you decide what to do. As an extremely sensitive patient with a small mouth and limited jaw flexibility, I can also say that Dr. Schobel & his team do a great job at getting the work done with the minimum of stress & without stigmatizing - they have a very comfortable manner & sensitive hands. read more

Beyond Amazing!!! Dr. Schobel, Dr. Gialanella and their team are absolutely great. I have been working on my teeth with Dr. Schobel for about a year now and he was super patient as we went through my Invisalign journey. He is very detail and cared about my priorities. I tend to be a perfectionist so it took a bit longer than we initially expected, but he heard my very detailed concerns and always took action towards addressing them. My mom sees Dr. Gialanella. She has a complicated history of gingivitis that has cause other issues but she can't be in better hands. She has maintain her oral health and Dr. Gialanella referred her to other amazing specialists that helped taking care of the additional issues. I can go on and on about how great they are as professionals and humans. But, I want to dedicate a few lines to their staff who are equally awesome! Let me start by saying, I have been in DC for going on 6 years and this is the 3rd Dentist I have been to in that time. The previous two places were unreliable, inefficient and incompetent, so you can imagine how THRILLED I was to find this office! I have seen Dr. Schobel for a yearly exam and follow corrective filling work (not previously fixed by other offices), as well as Dr. Gialanella for a check-in hello during my last cleaning. They have both been fantastic! The offices are well located and very modern and clean. They even have tvs you can watch during procedures, which really helped take my mind off the cavity work. I also really appreciated the time Dr. S took to walk me through his recommendations for a procedure, and then allowed me to make an informed decision on my own. No pressure, only support. I have never found this in another office. While all this is great, I also want to be sure to give a special shout out to their dental hygienist Casey and their front desk staff (especially Kayla). I have NEVER found a medical office with a staff front to back of house, that was more pleasant and efficient. Medical front desks and billing departments are often the reasons patients leave good doctors, so I usually don't anticipate good experiences here. They are all fantastic at dealing with patients! Kayla even helped me get my dental records from my previous place last year, who was being particularly difficult. I cannot recommend this practice enough. I was really impressed with Dr. Gialanella and the whole office at District Dental. I was trying to look for a place to add in front veneers after getting my braces off and ultimately chose District Dental because of another dentist's recommendation and by looking through the Yelp reviews. It was ultimately the Yelp reviews that made me pick them. All the positive Yelp reviews are accurate, and I'm very happy with them. On the first visit, I was impressed with the direct and friendly staff and then ultimately impressed with how Dr. Gialanella took a lot of time to sit down with me and answer all my questions and talk through everything in a very friendly way, without ever feeling rushed. In the past, I've noticed other professionals can brush off questions or be in too much of a rush to give you the quality time you are really looking for. I'm very happy with the result and with the experience. It has honestly been a pleasure seeing Dr. Gialanella and the whole office from beginning to end. I can tell Dr. Gialanella puts patients first and will look out for the patients' best interests, which is what I would want in a dentist. I have been going to DDC since I moved to DC, two years ago. I only have wonderful things to say about them and I highly recommend them! Dr Gialanella is very attentive and kind. He cares about the patients and explain everything in details. They are not after your money at all! I know I have a cavity coming in one of my teeth and they could have easily said I needed a procedure already. They didn't. Dr. G always keeps an eye on it and says that as long as I continue to take a good care of it, I shouldn't need to worry about it! All the staff is very friendly and, most of all, efficient! Carmen, the front desk, is very nice! Francisco always takes care of everything I need and he is very efficient dealing with insurance stuff. They are always able to tell which procedures are covered under your insurance. The hygienists are amazing! I do my cleaning every 6 months with them and always feel lighter when I leave! They are all amazing, but I want to give a special shout out to Ana Muniz, one of their dental assistants. Last time I went there she took the impressions for my night guard and retention. She was extremely efficient and careful! I usually feel like throwing up when taking impressions but Ana made it feel quite easy and smooth! About a month ago I went to Dr. Schobel to have a couple crowns placed over titanium implants I recently had put in place. It was a painless process, and Dr. Schobel made a point of getting it exactly right. One of the new crowns that had been manufactured was maybe a millimeter off so he sent it back to get the exact, correct fit. He's quite the perfectionist, and it's clear that he respects his patients and believes they deserve a perfect result, which is what I got. Drs. Schobel and Gialanella and their staff are skilled, kind professionals and clear communicators, and I've never felt rushed during an appt. I've lived in DC more than 30 years. I saw Dr G. because I was grinding my teeth. I got an appointment the same week I called. He has a great bedside manner. Very attentive and thorough. He fitted me for a mouth guard. We also discussed other treatments like acupuncture, but I never felt like he was up selling me, which is something I've been annoyed at with other dentists. A pleasant experience in my initial visit did a 180' turn upon completion of two crowns ordered in a previous visit and seated on my last visit 7/19/23. Upon closer inspection the evening of the completed work I noticed while flossing and brushing that one of the crowns was not seated correctly or covering the tooth underneath. When I phoned on 7/20 to ask about it I was asked to come in and review the concern. I believe the dentist, Dr Schobel had been told of my concern prior to my arrival as he entered the room with an attitude when I started to explain my concern or the less than stellar crown. He attempted to make an excuse that the crown was whiter than the tooth underneath and that was why it looked the way it did. I explained to him that this was not a proper excuse and that every other crown in my mouth is whiter than the tooth underneath it and all cover the tooth completely and meet at the gum line. It is a noticeable difference and any dentist would recognize this on the one crown that he did of the two. I stated that I was not sure if when they were doing the procedure to measure for the new crown in his office or the outside vendor that makes the crown did it incorrectly, I just want a crown that fits over the tooth underneath and hides the tooth, for visual and preventative purposes. He stated rather abruptly that he had done his job and seated the crown the way it was meant and that he would not replace the crown with a correct size to cover the entire tooth underneath. He stated that I could discuss this with my insurance carrier about the work. When ones insurance spends $1,900 and an additional $935 out of pocket I do not believe it unreasonable to ask for stellar work to be completed and any dentist with ethics would have caught the issue when he seated it on 7/19. The fact that Dr Schobel did not and I had to bring attention to it the next day should say a lot about his caliber and ethics. I understand that he may incur a cost to re-order a correct crown to fit the tooth, though what is more important profit or a patients positive experience with your practice, I believe I had my question answered today. My course of action is to appeal and dispute this with my insurance carrier Aetna as well as the out of pocket charges since he refuses to make a patients experience right. I will also be reporting Dr Schobel to the ADA based on the work and the experience in his office on 7/20 as no client should be treated the way that I was. For a cleaning you are safe here anything more such as dental work, buyer beware. read more
